First I tried a constrictor knot with a rock. The hook end was a version of a cow hitch. That almost worked. I tried again with the kind of knot you would use for a friendship bracelet, but that didn't work either. Finally, I tied up a knot that worked like a hook. I used a rock for a counterweight and that did the trick.
