Hi guys, my name is Chad Troftgruben and this course is all about creating characters inside of Adobe Animate. I originally launched this course on Udemy way back in 2019. However, it still contains a lot of useful information and still rates pretty highly on Udemy. I’ll be launching one chapter a week. And if you wish to view the course in one shot or gain access to the exercise files, you can always check out the Udemy course which is linked below. Thanks for watching and I hope you learned something.
📌 Full Course + Exercise Files (Udemy): udemy.com/course/designing-cartoon-characters-in-adobe-animate
Files Used In This Chapter:
15 Chad Vector Animate (Front eye build: eyeball, pupil, lids)
16 Chad Vector Animate (Masking + highlights + duplicate second eye)
17 Chad Vector Animate (Eyebrows + nose + polish/cleanup)
✅ What This Chapter Covers
• Setting up clean eye layers: F. Eyeball / F. Pupil / F. Top Lid / F. Bottom Lid
• Drawing an eyeball with the Oval Tool (O) + stroke/fill control
• Shaping lids using selection + curve adjustments (before masking)
• Using Masking in Animate (duplicate layer → set as Mask → lock to preview)
• Creating a clean eye outline layer (remove fill, keep stroke)
• Adding depth with:
• Pupil highlight (small white oval)
• Lid highlights (Brush + Paint Inside / Paint Fills)
• Duplicating the entire eye rig to build the second eye faster
• Resizing/spacing/transform tweaks for a more natural look
• Adding eyebrows (duplicate + flip) and quick nose construction on the head
• Layer organization tips so your file stays animation-ready
Up next: constructing the mouth.
