The mechanism for adding an Fmoc (fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl) protecting group using Fmoc chloride. An Fmoc group is unstable under basic conditions as it is often cleaved using nitrogen bases such as piperidine. The two most common methods for adding an Fmoc group are using either Fmoc-Cl or using Fmoc-succinimide.
