Before joining the RAF family, the RAF Museum Midlands began life as the Aerospace Museum at RAF Cosford. Its early emblem – a pterodactyl, the first creature to fly – was styled in the colours of the RAF roundel, a bold symbol of ambition and heritage.
When the museum first opened its hangars to the public in 1974, visitors proudly displayed windscreen stickers to show they had paid their entrance fee.
From those modest beginnings and limited opening hours, five decades of dedication from staff and volunteers have helped us grow to welcome more than 400,000 visitors each year at this site.
Our Crate Escape Appeal will help relocate thousands of objects to a new Collections Hub at our Midlands site. These artefacts will be accessible to the public.
