Join Mayor Wilson and Executive Director of the South Seattle Emerald, Florangela Davila for a conversation on security, surveillance, and their impacts on Seattle’s communities. This event brings Mayor Wilson on stage and in dialogue for a shared look at the challenges and opportunities shaping the city right now. The evening will begin with a moderated conversation, followed by time for audience Q&A. Together, we’ll explore questions of safety, privacy, and public trust — and consider how policy decisions resonate across the city’s creative and civic landscape. Above all, this is a chance to gather: to listen, exchange ideas, and reflect together on how Seattle can move forward in this moment.
Katie B. Wilson is the Mayor of Seattle, taking office in January 2026. A longtime transit advocate and community organizer, Wilson co-founded the Transit Riders Union and then led the organization for over a decade, during which time she had extraordinary success building coalitions to win better transit, affordable fares, higher wages, stronger renter protections, and new progressive revenue. Wilson approaches the role of Mayor from the perspective of a coalition builder and has assembled a diverse and experienced team ready to deliver responsible, effective governance and make progress on our city’s biggest challenges. She rents an apartment in Capitol Hill which she shares with her husband and young daughter.
Florangela Davila is the executive editor and executive director at the South Seattle Emerald. She’s been a fixture in Seattle media for nearly three decades. She’s earned regional and national awards for her own work as the former race and immigration reporter for The Seattle Times, and has led teams at Crosscut/Cascade PBS and at KNKX Public Radio to accolades, including the 2024 national Edward R. Murrow award for Overall Excellence in the large market radio category. In February 2025, she joined the local nonprofit media outlet The South Seattle Emerald. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley and the Columbia School of Journalism at Columbia University. She lives in Rainier Beach with her husband Glenn and their dog Santana.
