A live stream of the Cumbra Vieja volcano , La Palma on September 27th 2021 at 16.20 shows a bright light appearing on its flank that flashes intermittently for a few minutes and then disappears. At 18.13, close to where the light had been, a vent becomes active and at 18.18 it erupts gas and smoke quite violently for about 5 minutes before becoming quiet again. This vent later becomes very active again and begins emitting large amounts of lava as it increases in size.
The light seems as though it is related to the vent in some way. The quietness of the volcano, the relative briefness of its appearance, its brightness and the momentary glimpses of a second light in a position to the right of the vent make it seem anomalous. Lights to the left are tree trunks on land much closer to the camera. They shimmer because of normal atmospheric turbulence and were always present whereas the mystery light only appeared for a short period and was distinctly brighter and different in character.
The light(s) might be an example of so-called "Earthquake Lights" due to stresses in the ground. However, this is still a controversial subject among many scientists who doubt their existence.
