Sometimes things don't go according to plan, which instead leaves you with an opportunity! It's worth having a little something to hand which you'll enjoy painting if something else doesn't work out, or even just to test theories and practice painting in your own time. Not everything has to be 'work' - even if you're painting an army of Space Marines, sometimes a kobold for a change of pace can be fun, and the same principle holds true here.

The first major Tyranid fleet encountered by the Imperium, Hive Fleet Behemoth are about as old-school as you get when it comes to these awful gribblies. Painting them is a little more involved than other white-leading Hive Fleets like Leviathan, for example, but not so much more so than makes them difficult. If you like red, well... theres not really another choice, is there?!

Turnip28 is... well, its a lot. Like Napoleon stood for a portrait by Hieronymus Bosch. A post-apocalyptic world where instead of just stagnating, civilization slid backward into a deep, muddy hole. Where root-worshipping cults throw parades of hapless, mutated peasants at one another in the name of their chosen vegetable. Where a turnip will feasibly contain gristle, a chunk of splintered bone, a little hair...

THE BASE:
Start with a thin layer of Stirland Mud. Add tufts, then more Stirland Mud, working it into the tufts so they look clogged and grimy. Lightly overbrush a grimy, yellowish brown - Ive used Vallejo Flat Earth - and once dry, dab gloss varnish puddles on the base around the bottom of the tuft clods. Paint the base rim in a dark brown and done!

No, the colour scheme chosen isnt some carefully coded message. Its a common pattern, and with white commonly being perceived as difficult to paint, it seemed a good choice to tackle something this large with a relatively simple method thats easy to replicate at home.
The best thing about the early medieval period is that during the early 13th Century, rules around heraldry werent yet codified, and there was a lot of leeway in what anything would mean or relate to. THE BASE: Thick layer of PVA and sand, followed by a thinned-down brown paint from the stationary aisle - literally any middling brown shade will do. Drybrush with Vallejo Dark Sand, then add dots of PVA again and static grass, with some tufts to finish the look.

General Slims Forgotten Army was overlooked by press of the time and in many publications since as a sideshow to the real war taking place in the ETO, MTO and the Russian front - a real feat considering the 14th Army represented the largest combined army in the Commonwealth and one of the largest in operation in the world.
