It is a classic, busy summer day at Sheraton Park Farms, packed with livestock rotations, brooder maintenance, garden updates, and a conversation about a bizarre customer interaction that left us completely speechless.
We start the morning out with the big animals, checking in on the cattle herd to see how they are settling into the lush new pasture we just rotated them onto. From there, we swing by the pigs to see how they are enjoying the fresh paddock Saundra single-handedly set up for them in our last episode—they are loving the shade and fresh ground!
Next, Chuck heads into the barn to service the brooders. We keep things clean and healthy by layering in fresh pine shavings, filling up the feeders, and ensuring everyone has clean, cool water. Then it’s out to the pasture to move the broiler chicken tractors onto fresh grass and transition the older chicks out of the brooder to start their life out on the pasture.
We also take a quick trip over to the garden to see if our second planting of field corn is beating the crows, and Chuck shares the specific deterrent measures we are taking to protect the young shoots this time around.
Finally, Chuck sits down to share a story from a recent weekend at the Clemmons Farmers Market. A gentleman was looking inside our mobile retail trailer at our premium ground beef when his wife turned to him and asked a completely serious, baffling question: "Do you know how to prepare ground beef?"
