Preparing for Christmas in Sweden? This is a guide to making the most of it:
Soft saffron buns: A must-eat during the Swedish Christmas season – sweet wheat pastries flavoured with saffron.
Unusual wine – glögg: Spiced wine, which is drunk warm and often with raisins and almonds. There are also non-alcoholic versions.
Glögg cups: To avoid gulping it down, glögg is best drunk from customised small glass cups. Glögging not glugging!
Crunchy gingerbread biscuits: Christmas staple food.
Firewood: A log fire brings extra warmth.
Star 1: A small reflector, preferably attached to your coat or jacket so that cars can see you (and people can find each other after 15:00).
Star 2: A paper star with an electric light inside, used to decorate windows and boost the Christmas mood.
Means of transport: Ice skating to work, anyone? (Admittedly not a common way to commute.)
Handy: Warm hands, warm heart! Mittens help fight off the midwinter cold.
Candles: An Advent candle is lit every Sunday from now till Christmas. Four candles mean it's Christmas!
