“Clear Skies” is the fifth and final single from “Urban Dreams” – the latest studio album by synthesizer wizard Kebu, who won the German Schallwelle Award as “Best International Artist” this year. The single presents the winner and runner up of a remix contest that Kebu arranged for his fans. From over 40 remix entries, Kebu selected together with ZYX Music the best remixes for release on this maxi-single. In addition to the remixes, Kebu made a punchier remaster of the original track to make it fit better with the remixes, and also a shorter radio edit.

Only instruments used in creating this remix were analog synths and analog drum machines:
Roland Alpha Juno 1&2, Juno-60, Jupiter-6, JX-8P, TR-808 & VP-330; Cyclone Analogic TT-78 & TT-606; Moog Minimoog & Source; Oberheim Matrix 1000 (x3); Dave Smith Tetra; Hypersynth Xenophone; Jomox AirBase99; Korg Mono/Poly.
A Roland Fantom 6 was used as a master keyboard for playing the synth modules and an M-Audio Trigger Finger was used for playing drums. The remix was sequenced, recorded and mastered using Cubase 7.5. The main mix of the remix was made using a Behringer X32.

Some of you have asked for a timelapse of setting up my keyboard rig, so I made one while I was setting up my rig for my concert at Assembly Winter 2022.
The actual setup time is about two hours. But then there is the load out of the car which takes about half an hour or more, depending on how many persons are helping. And there is always something extra happening (I probably cut away about half an hour of action from the video that was not directly related to the setup, like answering a phone, discussing with the stage manager, going away to park my van etc). So normally I reserve 4 hours for load in and setup, but in the worst case I can do it in 2,5 hours, but then there is no time for troubleshooting if something goes wrong.
My Urban Dreams tour keyboard rig consists of the following equipment:
Akai MPC 2500 (only for sequencing and triggering)
Alesis Andromeda A6
Arturia Keystep
Behringer X32R & S32
Dave Smith Tetra
Hypersynth Xenophone (x 2)
iConnectivity MioXL & MioXM
Jaspers 4D & KSV keyboard stands
Jomox Airbase99
Lexicon MPX1
Korg Mono/Poly, Polysix (x2) and Poly-61
K&M Spider Pro keyboard stand
Marion Prosynth
M-Audio Trigger Finger
Oberheim Matrix 1000
Roland TR808, Alpha Juno 1 & 2, Juno 60, JX-3P (Kiwi-3P), JX-8P, Jupiter 6, MKS-70
Sennheiser ew IEM G4 in-ear monitoring
Strymon Big Sky
Touched-by-Sound DRM1
Yamaha 01V96
#dreamofhope #dreamofpeace
Only n/zyme patches were used and the demo was mixed in the Fantom. I did some small adjustments to each presets, to make them more suitable for the song. Only some multiband compression and limiting was added for mastering. Everything was performed and recorded live using the Fantom's built-in sequencer. Prior to the take I pre-recorded the "Chip stutter" and "Sine mine" sounds, because otherwise the intro would have been double this long, since I would have to wait for the recorded pattern to loop once before recording another pattern.

"The third studio album from the synthesizer wizard Kebu is now available for
pre-order! Conceived during a time of lock-downs and people living in isolation in
confined spaces, this instrumental album is exploring dreams – both
those occurring during sleep and daydreams.
The new album is also a celebration of power ballads and soft rock beats from the eighties - essentially music that surrounded and influenced Kebu when he was young. Instead of being nostalgic or witty about it, Kebu crafts the music like the world never moved on past that decade.
Again, Kebu is pushing the limits of what can be done with analog synthesizers - similar to Kebu’s earlier releases, “Urban Dreams” was recorded using only analog synthesizers and analog drum machines. Kebu composed, performed and mixed the music himself. Right now, Kebu is preparing for a streaming concert in September and will head back out on the European roads in spring 2022."
'Urban Dreams' is available now on CD & Digital. The LIMITED TWILIGHT EDITION is exclusively for sale on Bandcamp. It is identical to the regular album except for the cover, which has a slightly darker and more vibrant color scheme, depicting the motif in twilight. Each sold copy of the Twilight Edition will be numbered and signed by Kebu.
The vinyl will be released in April 2022.

I have also enabled the track for download on my Bandcamp store for those that have pre-ordered the album, so you don't need to buy it separately (although the master is slightly different on the single)
"In 'Late for the Meeting in the Maze' Kebu makes use of his background in progressive rock and combines it with modern electro, resulting in a quirky house tune where the beat constantly changes. As the name implies, you are never sure of what comes around the next corner, but still you have to get onwards, because you’re late for your meeting! Again, Kebu is pushing the limits of what can be done with analog synthesizers - similar to Kebu’s earlier releases, this track – and his upcoming album – consist of a sound universe made only with analog synthesizers and analog drum machines. In addition to the original mix, the single contains also a shorter radio edit."

The idea of the challenge is to create a song with the Roland Fantom synth in 4 minutes, playing 4 chords only, and using the 4 new Model Expansions (vintage synth emulations of the Roland JX-8P, Juno-106, SH-101 and Jupiter-8).
Somehow I misunderstood the challenge and thought you ALSO had to compose the tune in 4 minutes ("create" = "compose"?). This made the challenge quite difficult! Not to come up with ideas, but to actually have it made in 4 minutes! I didn't succeed until my 14th attempt! Also, I decided to shoot everything in a single take and forced myself to come up with new musical ideas for each take, as I didn't allow myself to start with any ready-made ideas. In the end I decided to choose which synth sounds to use in advance, because otherwise it would have been impossible for me, because I couldn't get past the sound selection in 4 minutes. I'm so picky with my synth sounds. :)
Next, I challenge my friend Ludvig Olin with the #444xChallenge! And, of course, anyone with a Fantom can give it a go! Remember to use the tag #444xChallenge when you post your video.

The tune uses two scenes, with the main part of the tune being based around a factory preset by Gattobus that I modified. All the sounds are generated in realtime by the synth's I-Arpeggiator based on my playing. There are no backing tracks or pre-made sequences. I use an iPad running MIDI Designer for controlling some parameters that were not accessible from the front panel of the synth in the beta version of the firmware. The iPad was connected using the built-in Bluetooth of the JUPITER-Xm.
Many thanks to Roland for this great opportunity and for providing the video!

The tune is my own composition called "Just Another Space Odyssey" and is from my first album "To Jupiter and Back". When I composed the tune, I was inspired by Jean Michel Jarre's tune "Arpeggiator", and wanted to do something in the same style.
In this video I perform "Just Another Space Odyssey" with an all-Roland keyboard rig, controlled by the Fantom's sequencer. The first two minutes of the tune is built up in real-time, by recording MIDI notes and looping them back. At 2:20, I start triggering pre-recorded MIDI sequences from the Fantom and play along with them.
Synths used:
Roland Fantom 6, Jupiter X, Jupiter Xm, System 8, JD-XA, TR-8S, TR-808, Alpha Juno 1 & 2 and SE-02
The audio was recorded in one take, but the video was edited from multiple takes.

Sadly, the main footage from the concert was lost, but the audio recording was recovered. The video was made using a private camcorder recording, courtesy of Tomas Bazika, and photos provided by the Film Music Prague Festival.
The song was performed using only analog synthesizers with the help of a MIDI sequencer. The audio of the performance was recorded to a stereo track from the line out of my mixer and was later mixed together with the audio track from the camcorder for room ambience.
15 minutes before showtime my Poly-61 broke down so I had to quickly program the sound for the main sequence on my backup synth (JD-XA) while the audience was filling the hall. Luckily, I know the JD-XA so well by now and its analog part has sonic similarities to the Poly-61, so I nailed it in five minutes. :D
Instruments used:
Oboe-voice: Roland SH-2000
Flute-brass: Yamaha CS-50
Electric piano: Roland JX-8P
Slow plucked sequence: Roland JD-XA (analog part only)
Harp: Roland Alpha Juno 2
Additional brass: Oberheim Matrix 1000
Choral washes: Korg PE-2000 and Korg Polysix
Cymbal: Touched-by-sound DRM1
Strings: Roland Alpha Juno 1
Wind chimes: Marion Prosynth

Remix produced by Sebastian "Kebu" Teir
Performed by: Kebu
This remix was made using analog synths and analog(* drum machines as the sole sound sources, in addition to the original vocals:
Cyclone TT-606; Dave Smith Evolver, Mopho & Tetra (x 2); Jomox AirBase99; Hypersynth Xenophone; Marion ProSynth; Moog Minimoog D; Oberheim Matrix 6R & Matrix1000 (x 3); Roland Alpha Juno 2, JX-3P (with KiwiTech upgrade), JX-8P, SH-09 and TR-808.
(* The AirBase99 has also samples in addition to the analog synth drums. However, for this music I only used the analog synth drums.
The song was sequenced with Cubase and mixed with a Yamaha LS9-32. The stems were further mixed and mastered using Cubase with various plugins.
Controllers used: M-Audio Trigger Finger; Roland JD-XA; Roli Seaboard Grand
Camera: Heidi Väisänen
Video editing: Kebu
Many thanks to Gustaf Thörn & Laleh for providing the stems for my remix!
Lyrics (in Swedish):
Vi spelar orgel och piano
Vi sjunger sånger och några håller tal
Jag hörde när ni öva´
Jag lovar det blir, det blir bra idag
sorger är som sånger
man övar, kanske blir man bättre
English translation (from lyricstranslate.com):
lyricstranslate.com/en/kristaller-crystals.html
Crystals
We play organ and piano
We sing songs and some make speeches
I heard you guys practice
I promise that it'll be, it'll be good today
Sorrows are like songs
You practice, and you might get better
Like organs and pianos, like organs and pianos
When the parade has gone silent in the distant
And bells and songs have faded
The hall will be filled with crystals
That you left behind
When everything you're trying to say
Exists within a silent minute
The world is full of crystals
And will never be the same
We play organ and piano
And I'm hearing choirs and they're singing loudly today
[I] just have to close my eyes
And be grateful for the time that we had
And you can almost hear
The time when you hummed our song
Together with organ and piano
You live and learn for sure
When the parade has gone silent in the distant
And bells and songs have faded
The hall will be filled with crystals
That you left behind
When everything you're trying to say
Exists within a silent minute
The world is full of crystals
And will never be the same
Never again

Lyrics for Talven tulo:
"Maa hyytyy, viilenee, jäähtyy
varautuu torkkumaan, tulemaan
Vapaat jääkiteet
kohoavat taivaisiin
Sää muuttuu, kylmenee
Päivä lyhenee, iltatee, pitenee
Meren asukkaat
vetäytyvät syvyyksiin
Jää peittää järveä
huopa, valkea, kätkee elämää
Talvemme saapunut on"
Lyrics for En sällsam gåva:
Doften av barrträd
och havets brus
Drar mig till minnes
hembygdens hus
Upplysta fönster
en stor familj
en oerhörd rikedom
Seinien henget
vievät mut pois
Häikäistyessä
kirkkaudesta
Kodimme turva
yhteisöllisyys
antavat luottamusta
tulevaisuuteen
Enkel gemenskap
som tidsfördriv
är delad glädje
ärlig och fri
En sällsam gåva
samhörighet
Där finner själen ro"

Lyrics:
"När dan tar farväl
och när vinden vilar stilla
Förundras likväl
över havets hemligheter
I vinternattens bo
kommer stjärnorna till ro
De lagts i tiderna fram
av en osynlig hand
Sen urminnes tid
har vi färdats över havet
för att lägga till
ut i främmande hamnar
Allt språk från världens alla länder
ljöd högt och alla tala sitt
Trots många obekanta dialekter
förstod alla varann
En människas dagar
blott en liten stund på jorden
Ett kort andetag
för vår tidelösa moder
Vårt folk år efter år
har satt stranden full av spår
Alltjämnt sen fornminnestid
livet fortgått i fred och krig
Lätta ankar
Gå till segels
med en stadig och varm öppen vind
Glöm din oro,
dina sorger
Horisonten väntar oss
Bortom havet
finns en längtan
obeskrivbar men fundamental
Bittra strider
Brustna hjärtan
men folksjälen den består
Än förs folk och ting
över brusande vågor
Trots all utveckling
segregerade nationer
En dag vi allt förstår
och till djupet återgår
Vi kommer och vi går
men världshavet det består"
