Welcome to a breakdown (pun intended) of my lightshow for '21st Century Breakdown!' Here I will be commenting on some of the choices I made, details I added, and inspiration I took for a few of the lighting events.

First of all, this song has 3 different sections to it, and I wanted them all to feel different and unique in terms of the amount of effects, the structure, and the vibe felt.
This sections system is heavily inspired by Freeek's lightshow for 'Free Bird' from the official Rock Mixtape, as was also a few other effects.

Section 1 was more the main focus of the map, with many details such as the animated 'Rock God' in the background, where you can see it waving, blinking, and using a microphone, inspired by 'Free Bird's similar effect. In this section, almost everything is moving at all times, and something is noticeably absent throughout the entire section.
For the chorus, I thought it would be cool for the 'Rock God' to be shattering the screens when Billie sings 'Breakdown,' so I animated it for the first line of the chorus, and kept it for the rest of it for consistency. Each line, the angle at which the screens disperse into changes slightly.
For the screens, I had to use 2 screens, and line them up into one so they could be shattered in different directions, as you cannot control the X and Z axis of the individual screen pieces locally.
When the backing vocals come in at the end of the second verse, I made the screens look like mouths singing the lyrics along with the 'Rock God' which is consistently representing the lyrics throughout the entire song.

If you figured it out, the spikes at the side of the bridge are missing for the whole first section of the song. Since they are so bright and noticeable, I wanted to save them for a time they would be really impactful, and that would be during a louder, more up-tempo, dance-ier section which is this one, Section 2. During the buildup, the spikes approach closer with every cymbal hit, before joining the drum roll, and being the main feature of section 2.
With section 2, I focused more on bright flashy peripheral effects, since it is much faster than section 1 and 3, so players will focus more on the notes, but I still want the lighting to be noticeable and impact the player's experience, for example making accented notes having more impact or dancing along with the music.
In the chorus of the second section, the spikes are dancing along with the music. As you move with the dodge walls, the spikes will move the same direction when playing on the Hard and Expert+ difficulties, as they bop along to the beat to encourage you to dance along with the music.
The lasers on the side are like vertical guitar strings, the lasers pulsing along with the main riff, matching the pitch too.

Every time the song chants 'Hey!', a red screen will briefly appear to mouth the word to add emphasis, in the 3rd line of each verse, and the last beat of each repetition in the second chorus.

At the transition to the 3rd section, as the spikes are repeatedly jumping up to match the accented sounds, I wanted to make the final one appear to fall in slow-motion to express the sustained note throughout the transition.
The third section introduces boost colours, where the first 2 did not use them at all, to give this section a unique feel, as I feel the red and orange match the power and intensity of the first 2 sections, whereas the pink and blue match the moody tone of the ending in comparison.
The laser formations for the lead guitar riff in the transition, and the solo are also inspired by the lasers used in 'Free Bird.' Shows how much I like that lightshow.
