Hunter classic solo - Durendil vs Heroic Bastion of Twilight
updated
With all 3 raids being fated, I had the opportunity to redo a similar event than the Antorus 3-man back in legion.
Thuralion is an excellent Paladin, solo tanking the bosses despite their tank swap mechanics and healing his party members.
Thyx is a dps machine, taking care of dealing a lot of damage to meet the dps requirements.
I did the strategy and planning, as well as burst AoE on motes.
For the bosses, I won't go into a lot of details, just the important information.
00:00 Denathrius
We just needed to figure out he best way to kill the barrier - the shield has more health than the add, so we switched to it and had Thuralion heal too. Then we utterly destroyed the boss so hard he entered P2 at 63%, and Thuralion ended up dying because the boss got to P3 so fast he didn't have time to get his bubble back. So an easy boss but a lot of laughs.
08:00 : Sylvanas
This boss was the hardest output-wise. We had the two worst affixes - motes, which are hard to stack with only 3 people, and soaks, who gives the worst dps buff. So, in order to meet the dps requirements, Thuralion and me had to optimize cooldowns around motes, in order to maximize Thyx’s damage. We had quite a few sub-52% wipes.
Also, in terms of survival, this was the most healing intensive. Not to mention the two affixes deal quite a bit of damage.
So it being before the pre-patch and with bad affixes, she was an actual challenge.
22:15 Jailer
This boss was the hardest in terms of strategy. Hence why we killed him after pre-patch.
In P1, we couldn’t avoid him dealing 250k raid-wide damage on each of the four tank combos, since it requires 5 people to soak it. So we needed to have the barrier affix, giving us more health. This allowed Thyx to feint or cloak each one, while I could deal with 3 thanks to the new hunter defensive CD - and Thuralion bubbled me on one of them. Thuralion took massive damage though, and had to plan GCDs to survive each combo.
In P2, the issue was MCs. Thuralion equipped the burst trinket from the Lords of Drear to quickly break the first set, used his dps cooldowns for the second. If the third happened he would have used bubble, losing aggro and having the boss break us out himself with melees.
Also, the pillar break was a bit funky if the tank was too far away from the boss - hence why we didn’t have the third MC.
In P3, we had to finish him before he killed Azeroth. To be fair, we didn’t really optimize dps and cooldowns, but thanks to the pre-patch it wasn’t an issue. The challenge was figuring out how to survive P1 and P2, not dps.

The main unknown was his berserk - and it's at least over 12 minutes. No soft enrage though.
And as far as the strat goes, the reason this boss is considered hars is because all players have to deal with all abilities. So in solo he's not harder than in a group, but there are no other people who can fail.
Finally, he doesn't use his tank ability while focusing pet.
The only hard part is he deals a lot of melee damage, and increases each phase. Nut I didn't even use a tank trinket.
Let's see how the pre-patch changes things :) Might be my last solo of the expansion.
Dps-wise, he still has a 12-minutes berserk and I could afford to dps the adds a lot more. So the dps check was easier - even if I had to focus the cabalists faster in P3.
But survival-wise, I had high leech (22.5%), used the Mechagon healing ring and the totally overpowered Denathrius trinket, and still had such difficulty surviving in P2 that I had to adapt the strategy.
So, I won't redo the whole strategy - check the normal video for it - but I will explain the differences.
In phase 1, I could afford to AoE the adds with my pets. Also, you will get the third ravage 5 seconds faster. But you still have to wait at least 3:06 before transitioning him to have your cooldowns when the second cabalists spawn.
In phase 2, the boss's debuff increases damage taken by 50% per stack and not 30%. So +100% with 7 cabalists and impale and bleed meant I needed turtle for the third set of cabalists.
So I couldn't use turtle to stack the cabalist on the platform to 4.
In conclusion, on the first set of cabalists, I went up to 3 stacks, suviving thanks to my cooldowns. Then killed the cabalist with +150% damage taken. Note that a massacre was happening at the same time, so I used wailing arrow to one-shot him then dodge.
This meant that, when the third set of cabalists spawned, I used turtle to avoid reaching 2 stacks. Then FD to avoid taking 2 stacks, and only reaching 2 stacks when I had less cabalists, no impale and my trinket up again. Stoneform is best used once healing CDs are used and you have 1 stack. And I still barely survived.
Last thing - you can not "afford" to wait until 7:30 to transition him. It's best to transition the boss as fast as possible, while maximizing AoE on the adds. You have to kill the first two, but you can focus boss and AoE add after.
Now comes phase 3. As usual, use your AoE CD immediately, with the boss on a cabalist.
Remember to keep mend pet on your pet, if it dies it could be a wipe.
The most important thing is that the third ravage, instead of coming in after 4min20, comes after 3min30. And all cabalists must be dead by then - so two cabalists with cds, 2 cabalists with pet cleave.
Also, you can soak orbs to take damage now, or let them explode to take damage later.
On the third ravage, you need to get on the first one because it will despawn. Use turtle on the fatal finesse and trinket to soak orb (or stay in turtle, or rely on pod, but you lose dps). You can survive until the ravage despawns, but you have to have killed all cabalists.
As I said before, berserk is still 12 minutes.
I could handle about 4 orbs at once.
So it was all about how to minimize damage on orbs.
First, I didn't really try to destroy the shields, just let the boss randomly hit some. Except when 2 orbs were stacked : then it started being worth it.
Then I made sure to destroy 2 orbs every time I used my AoE burst.
In the end, I cleared 7 orbs, and had 1 left when I reached 30%.
After 30%, orbs come in 2 by 2, but I ignored all and killed him before he killed me.
I did use hero at the start, and I do stand by it - it's better since I could focus 100% on dps at the start without any debuffs, dodging or orbs.
The bad news is phase 2 is really hard, with one boss being enough to kill your pet and both will annihilate him. Then there is the 5-minutes enrage. And the call of the Val'kyr is quite dangerous.
So you have to survive under massive pressure, kill both bosses before 5 minutes, and stabilize with the third boss.
I had the Denathrius trinket, 21% leech and the Mechagon healing ring.
First, only tank both bosses on your pet when he has his cooldown. Use Wild Spirits then. And burst. Make sure to wait until the cooldown is ready for wild spirits - it's a 5-minutes berserk, so you can delay.
When the cooldown isn't up, have your pet tank the melee while you kite the range to reduce damage.
Both the blue AoE soak and the 4 AoE soaks will deal around 90% of your health. If combo'd with the ranged boss, it's death. Use a CD (turtle, trinket, or heal + cut + kite) to survive, although you can FD the blue one - if available.
Ignore/trap adds until wild spirits - then kill them with the AoE (make sure to only have 4 targets).
On the last AoE, you want to use pot and Heroism to make sure the melee add is dead when the third boss comes. Then you have to finish the ranged one before berserk (5 minutes) - I did my best to balance their health.
During phase 2, don't CD the shield. It makes you feel dumb. Berserk is 10 minutes after activation.
Don't even get me started on the first boss - that one will be a very serious challenge. But I skipped him to get to the second one.
For the eye of the Jailer, the 12-minute Enrage is currently beatable. However, the hardest part are phases 2 and 3.
For phase 2 - the eyes - you want to kill one eye as fast as possible, and the second one fast too. This is because you take a massive amount of damage from their AoEs and the Spreading Misery DoT. I was using the FD dispel legendary to minimize damage, and still barely mad it with 21% leeech and the Denathrius trinket.
For phase 3, the dangerous ability is the tank nuke. For some reason he will cast in in phase 3 even if your pet is tanking, but not in phase 1.
Anyways, if you FD the first and second cast, he will recast them after, but by delaying by a few seconds you can have him cast his beam and skip the second stack.
First, he hits harder, so make sure to keep your pet alive. Then you don't want him to drop a trap in one of the areas you need for the seeds or annihilation - so you will have to bait them.
Then you have to deal with the relics more seriously.
For the ghosts, you'll need to go through the entire room.
For the seeds, you don't have time to move them. So you need to go to a spot where you only take one explosion. And since it deals a lot of damage, I used the FD legendary to dispel the DoT since DoT + Explosion was enough to kill me.
For annihilation, I used the trailblazer talent, stopped attacking, hugged the farthest wall and used disengage.
Note that in case of emergency you have soulshape and cheetah, and in case of imminent demise Pod and Turtle.
Although since it's Heroic, the boss hits hard - make sure your pet is topped off.
This was made possible thanks to the Essence fonts dropped by the occultists. When they dropped, I used the rebooting bit band from mechagon, bandages and spirit mend (pet's heal) to get them to full health, they heal the boss for a lot of health.
Then I used spirit mend on the boss when I could. Same with bandages and the pedestals.
Finally, when you kill infusers, they leave orbs - whenever there were 3, I grabbed the +600% healing and used turtle + bandage.
I tried to reset as many vanquishers and other stoneborn as I could. They stop spawning if there are enough already spawned.
Also, when there was an infuser + occultist spawn I had to focus the infusers, to make sure they don't damage the boss.
The enrage is at around 14:15 when a massive add wave spawns, including many infusers that will kill the boss quickly. Even if the shade is already up.
From what I've seen, what matters is getting the first phase 1 over as fast as possible - aim for 5:45 at most. Heroism would have been best in the first phase 2 I suppose - but thankfully I had enough leeway not to necessitate a perfect try.
So this boss couldn't be solo'd last patch, but this patch is very very easy.
I had several 1-4% wipes, at around 7min50-8min. And I am like "I need just a little bit more damage".
Then I kill her at 7:20. Doing the math, discounting the pod, I did 5% more dps this try than any other.
After thinking and analyzing, it seems it is due to the fact that, in phase 4, my pet only died once (thanks to my second pet getting aggro).
So again, I do stress that sometimes strategy is damage, which is something you really see in soloing.
Now, back to the boss.
First, she phases every 1:40 or 25%. Phase 4 lasts 2:10 before the enrage. Which can be survived around 40 seconds, but there's also an add, making it hard to dps.
So you want to keep hero for the last phase : if you get to phase 2 ten seconds faster, you actually lose 10 seconds on the enrage.
Then you want to open the next canister around 20 seconds before activation.
The second optimisation is the add. If you don't push the boss, she will cast adds like clockwork, every 1min10 or so. Reduce your turtle to a 2-minute CD and use it on every odd cast. Use your burst to kill the add while completely ignoring it on even casts. Focus damage on the boss.
Then there is pet survivability.
Your pet will stack, and die. Try to keep it alive as much as you can.
Since I had the Denathrius trinket, when my pet died, I tanked the boss until I got a stack. Then once I FD'd she would go either on my main pet or my secondary one. Make sure to heal both - it's worth keeping the second pet alive too in order to delay the next death of the main pet. I also had 21% leech, as usual.
So maximise dps by keeping your pet alive as much as you can and not attacking adds at all.
First, you need Craven Stratagem - I used it on neck - to avoid the meteors.
Phases 1, 2 and 3 are rather easy - if your pet dies, rez him and misdirect. There is nothing that can kill you.
However, the transition requires planning.
First, you need your burst to kill the Goliath. It will absolutely kill you and your pet if you don't kill him asap. Therefore, I didn't use my burst during phase 2. If needed, you can use a pvp trinket if the Goliath has time to jump.
Then your pet must not die during the transition. Therefore, at 55% health, let your pet die or dismiss it. Then misdirect boss on pet and build aggro. This will reset stacks on pet - both bosses have tank stacks they put on the pet, so if you enter transition with several stack your pet will die and it will be impossible to get aggro back on an immune boss.
First, his melees hit your pet twice if you're not stacked on him. Therefore, I tried to stack as much as possible on my pet, using Denathrius's trinket and Exhilaration. I also had about 22,5% leech.
The hardest part comes after the last charge, into the wall. You can survive a while with burst and cooldowns. But you can't protect your pet while doing it.
For the strategy, my goal was to get the boss to phase 2 before the 7th robot, and then to 0% before my death. I had to survive until the second Wild spirits in phase 3. Hence why I used the Sigil of the first ones - it's the best trinket for phase 1, and if you get to the second burst in phase 3 it gives you massive damage reduction and healing.
During the transition, I used turtle on a bomb to reduce damage taken.
Lastly, I had quite a few wipes to getting hit by the robots. Try to bait the jump at a "good" place. Note that bombs leave zones on the ground that deal massive damage.
That is due to phase 2 which where the whole thing is you need to be stacked. It's slightly difficult in solo.
Phase 1 is all about preparing for phase 2. You want to put all void zones on one side - I chose "top". Then I let the first wave of adds transform in order to have a lot of beam orbs.
You want to damage Vexiona as much as possible in phase 1. In the second phase 1, finish the adds and get her to around 42%.
During the transitions, try to put orbs with each other. And try to avoid breaths, although if you can take the damage it's best to put void zones on the right spot.
If you get too many stacks before the last phase, use one orb to clear debuffs.
Then there is the last phase. Use all cooldowns at the start. You will now have to survive as much desolations as possible.
To survive, you need a large cooldown between the two casts - either exhilaration or the Denathrius tank trinket. Then you need to time your beam to trigger right after the second cast to clear all stacks.
You can also turtle, or pod.
Then there is the fear. I used a pvp trinket. Be careful when feared to be feared somewhere with few AoEs. They do hurt.
Remember your hast is also massively slowed, so you have a lot less dps than usual.
Note that I had forgotten to equip my second legendary - I did a second kill, and got her right before I podded. But she's still the hardest boss in the instance (not counting N'zoth, but he's unsoloable due to his immunity at 50%).
You can slack in every AoE. Ignore every mechanic. And turtle every single orb - just equip the "call of the wild" legendary + talent + conduit to have a 1min20 turtle.
Although the orb will kill your pet. Just rez him.
Except that his time I got lucky and killed him before even starting to optimize dps.
So I had no idea what I was doing there, but since I only killed 4 images it worked.
Strat is the same as Heroic or normal : turtle on the first add (and destack), and use either the ledge on the side or the one in the entrance to destack and avoid adds.
Not sure when you want to use dps cooldowns such as Heroism hough - I didn't test enough.
Last thing : I'm not sure berserk actually kills you. For some reason I was just taking 30k per bolt on a previous try.
You shouldn't have enough dps to kill him, but thanks to a few tricks I manage to barely get him even with one costly mistake.
Before we get to the dps, survival wise, he cast 5 breaths per semi-phase. FD the first and fifth. Careful, FD as fast as possible as sometimes he continues casting for one second. Sometimes he very rarely casts a sixth breath.
Note that you can fail a FD and still survive, but it might cause you to have to avoid slacking, losing you dps.
Then, for phase 2, you have to immune when pillars explode. You won't get the dot that way.
First dps optimisation : I found out that, even with aspect of the beast, using vision of perfection in the heart (-30 seconds on aspect of the wild) and the AotW reduction conduit was best.
Second dps optimisation : slack during the cataclysm phases. When he's on the left and right sides, you can go behind the boss and take only one explosion. For the entrance/back sides, I couldn't find a place with only one explosion, so I got behind the boss again, only taking two. Use a healing CD if necessary.
Just note that, right before the third P2 transition (7:53), the DoT from the pillars will reapply. If you do a fail at that moment - as I did - you will have to play it safe and lose dps (if you immune the next stacks, you lose the dot).
Third dps optimisation : ignore phase 2.
If you don't soak the scales, he immediately explodes the pillars.
You need the conduit that reduces turtle's cooldown.
You can turtle right before the scales touch the ground, but it's risky. If you can take the damage, use it after.
As a reminder, only adds with the debuff can die - they respawn otherwise.
Start by using the beam to kill all the add.? You can more or less ignore the debuff for now, just AoE when adds spawn.
The important part is the hexer spawns.
On the first hexer spawn, once one gets the debuff, kill her immediately. Then trap the other. Once she has de buff too, kill her.
On the second hexer spawn, do the same but ignore the second add.
You want to phase the boss :
- before he summons the third hexer wave
- before he gets the buff from the big add (which he did in the video)
Use heroism and all CDs.
Immune the first deathwish. If you get another, just disengage back.
Other than that, kill the boss before he kills you.
First, I had 5,38% leech plus the 15% from my pet, thanks to the cloak enchant and 298 ilvl pants with leech.
I also use the Denathrius trinket, upgraded to 311 (thanks dinars) - it(s the most powerful self-heal trinket.
Don't hesitate to add leech/survival as you have the damage for "berserk" (the third regen phase).
I tried several strategies, but it's hard to destack on the second add phase.
And if I destroyed the big add during the first add phase, I had to use heroism and usually didn't manage to destack.
So my plan was : have him regen once - use the -50% healing so he only gets 15% back - and kill him before you die or he regens again.
First, avoid taking his tank ability, unless it's during burst where you can regen easily.
Second, his bump can be countered in many ways, but you can also just go under the boss - it's a 40-yard bump. Careful, if you get bumped too far from an add at spawn it might evade.
Then it's all about the add phases.
Add phase 1 :
First, you will need healing cooldowns because you'll have a lot of stacks.
If both small adds are near each other :
Kill the first small add, send pet on second small add.
Do not kill until the boss has started his cast. If you kill it too soon, you will not destack.
Then put pet on boss, making sure he has the -50% healing and let him eat the big one.
If small adds are far away :
Kill the first small add. Focus boss until he goes on the big one. Keep your pet on the boss until he refreshes the -50% healing, then go fast on the small one, and kill it while the boss is casting.
Then you have to use turtle once your stacks have 7 seconds left or less. This happens if he chains 2 abilities without putting the debuff again :
- eating and stomp
- eating and breath
- breath and stomp
I found that the most reliable way to get the reset was to make sure he casted twice - once on a small add and once on the big add.
If you fail to reset, reset the boss.
For the second set of adds, you want to kill everything.
Put the boss on the big add before it spawns. Use your burst and heroism as soon as possible. When the big add spawns, your burst will still be up - finish it while maximizing damage on the boss.
Then go on the nearest small add. Wait until the boss has started casting to kill it - it will buy you a few seconds before he runs to the last add.
Then kill the last add.
Now you have until :
- he eats the next add at 3:45
- you die form 30+ stacks
to kill the boss.
I probably should have equipped another leech piece, but I was planning to have podtender and 10 more seconds of dps.
Still, this is the "right" strategy if, for example, you're not a hunter.
The fight is simple : if you are at or above 25 stacks of debuff when he casts his AoE, you die. You gain a stack of debuff every time omega vector fades. And he casts his AoE every 25 seconds.
Note that if you feign death, you don't die from the One-shot. This is weird, and it made me think about using a 15-second FD + FD on each AoE strat.
But I figured this one was more fun and snappy.
So, there is no way to avoid the omega vector, or the one-shot (except FD). But thanks to the rogue @qlfwow, I realized you can immune the application of the debuff.
So you have to immune at the end of the omega vector.
So now the objective is to immune twice before reaching 25 stacks. If you do so, you will survive until the third phase 1.
Timings were complicated - if the vector ends during a stun, I would stack even with immunity. Hence why I use it at the start, even if the vectors are desynchronized.
The last thing I did was optimize dps. First, use the adaptation pvp trinket for stuns. Then you have a potion of unhindered passing that blocks one stun.
If you use it on the first stun, you'll have adaptation for the first stun in the second P1.
Else, wait until the second P1 to use it.
You want to burst as soon as possible to get your third burst in before the final AoE.
It took a lot of tries to get things right. I wiped to killing bosses too soon, too late, at the exact wrong moment, using CDs too soon or too late...
Basically, there are several issues :
- you have to tank a boss and have your pet on another
- you also need the dispel legendary for polymorph and the bleed
- you need a rotation to avoid the mind wipe on Akunda
- you have to manage the raptors
- and finally you get a -100% healing debuff. Note that the legendary didn't dispel it - I had to use dwarven racial. And you are taking a lot of damage.
First thing first, preparing for Akunda (phase 3). You will need :
- turtle
- the pvp trinket that protects you from the next CC. Any trinket that needs to activate after the CC will not work.
- Fleshcraft - so you have to go necrolord, with Marileth for the CC immunity.
- The sigil of the first ones. Note that it does not reset fleshcraft but, when used, channels it (without affecting the CD of the "real" one).
Then, you need to deal with the raptors. With the healing debuff, you can not afford to take your time.
When raptors spawn, wait for aspect of the wild, bestial wrath, and use them both + death chakram + barrage. If they are packed, it should kill them. If not you will have to kill them manually. I was using the vision of perfection (-30 sec cd) in my heart of azeroth to help.
Now, for the healing debuff. Bwomsamdi casts it regularly. You cannot avoid it, and it cannot be immuned - that is why the legendary doesn't work. Fleshcraft does still absorb damage though. I could dispel it, but had 2 minutes CD. That is why it's so hard to deal with the raptors and having a boss wail on you.
The last hard thing is aggro management. You will feign death a lot, so you must get the boss you are tanking back on you fast. If your pet builds some aggro, it is over.
Also, you can easily aggro the boss you are killing - I especially had trouble with Kimbul. It's easy to forget to misdirect in the chaos of the fight.
Finally, you can ignore the bird - he misses you with mosts spells.
Now, let's go phase by phase.
P1 : you have to kill Pa'ku. He will deal increasing damage and buff the raptors.
I used heroism here, but not the sigil - or it might not be available for P1. Heroism would be great for Kimbul, but Pa'ku will kill your pet after a while.
First healing debuff is at 1minute. Make sure raptors don't damage you after getting it and use fleshcraft once they are dead.
Make sure to kill Pa'ku at least 6 seconds before the next polymorph, so you have time to misdirect Kimbul on your pet (remember, FD dispels misdirection).
For Kimbul, you need to dispel the debuff. At first, use FD to dispel the polymorph. Dispel the second healing debuff in order to get healed.
The next healing debuff comes at 2:30.
First, change strategy : always FD as soon as you get the bleed, even if you cannot dispel a polymorph after.
Then use fleshcraft again, as soon as possible.
Before killing Kimbul, make sure that :
- sigil and fleshcraft are or will soon be off CD, one in 30 seconds and the other in 1 minute
- you have just feigned death
- you are ready to misdirect gonk to your pet immediately afterwards
Phase 3 : you want to tank Akunda and dps Gonk. You will die if Gonk is on you.
Now you have to avoid the mind wipes. Use one of your CDs in this priority : Fleshcraft - Turtle - Trinket - Sigil. But Fleshcraft will probably be on cooldown at the start.
You can avoid 4 mind wipes in a row at least. Make sure to kill Gonk before the 5th mind wipe. Then you can put Akunda on your pet, and if needed get 100 yards away to avoid the next mind wipe.
For the healing debuff, with the extra fleshcraft you should be fine. Try to time the dispel for after a new debuff, but if not just make sure not to die - dispel, heal up, and you should be fine if Gonk dies fast.
Once you're in phase 4, the fight is easy. Just make sure not to let the raptors kill you. Also, if you fail too many mind wipes, you might reach the 10-minutes berserk.
Talk about a hard boss.
After that, was reaching berserk - and realizing I couldn't kill the boss without both optimizing phase 1 and taking serious risks in phase 2. Which was fun, but very tight.
First, the chaotic displacement. It usually bugs out at the start, and has no effect. However, if you reach the point where you have both bosses on you at the same time, it will stop bugging for the next tries.
Therefore, I decided to do the boss without the bug.
Which is an issue, because if pets teleport to you the boss will run to them and reset.
Now, I figured out that the teleport only teleports your pets to you if you are more than 100 yards away. So you can avoid a wipe if you have your pet near the edge of the corridor, and you are near yours.
However, if you are not in melee range of your boss when you teleport, it despawns.
You can also avoid it by being more than 60 yards from the boss.
Finally, if using the trash, he will teleport your pet back after you pass the angle of the corridor, so after the boss reaches 60%.
That trash is the ancestral avenger. If his target is too far, he will teleport it on him. Make sure to put him on your pet before the start of the fight, and keep him trapped as much as possible to avoid killing him. I did let him dien in phase 2 to avoid wasting globals on traps. You have about 6 in stock before you have to reset the instance.
So the strategy is :
- put your pet on the fire boss while you deal with the lightning one
- get the boss to 90% as fast as possible, so you can use barbed shot without risking having your pet attack the wrong boss and reset. For the same reason, make sure to use heroism/burst cds while targeting your pet's boss
- either get the boss to 80% before he casts the teleport, or wait until it fades to push him - since you need to be both in melee and near the barrier. I did the second one since I didn't have the dps.
- after that, I outranged the third one with cheetah
- and then pushed the boss to 60%
Note that you have to tell your pet to attack the fire boss each time he gets teleported back, or it might reset.
Now push the first boss to 30%, and dismiss pet. Make sure to grab the opal first (the ruby won't stack). The trash will teleport you on the second boss, and the first boss will start evading. The issue is that he will get all his health back.
On the second boss, simply dps him as fast as possible until 30%. Then you have to get him as low as possible, but making sure he won't die of cleave. For me, it was 20%.
Once you are in the final room, the first boss will come. But he will be full health.
The goal now is to get in phase 2 fast enough. For met, it meant having the boss active at 7:45 maximum.
Now, phase 2.
You take a lot of damage from dots, there are a lot of aoes to dodge, and near the end there is pools everywhere. This makes it hard to get your health back.
Then the most dangerous abilities are the gold shower and the wail of greed. If you use your turtle with the 20% cd reduction talent, you can have it for wails 1 and 3. However, I didn't have the dps if I spent 16 seconds in turtle.
So for wails 1 and 3 I used my wild spirits and burst, trying to stay alive with leech, using also exhilaration and turtle for the last tick. And Heroism for the third one.
For the second wail I used pod. It also avoid the next coin shower, so it's better than trying to survive.
The berserk is 12 minutes, I barely made it.
The issue is that, if you don't have the damage, you need to start taking serious risks. And that is what made this fight hard.
To gain dps, you have to use the "whispers of power" debuff. It increases your damage - so it's great to have for bursts - but reduces your max health. At +/-90% damage/health you have a lot of damage but :
- if you take any damage at the same time as a bolt from the boss, you die
- your pet will die unless he has his defensive up (and rarely does die even with his cd)
So, let's see everything that can wipe you.
First, as said above, letting whispers of powers stack will kill you eventually. So you need to use the dispel legendary. But, in order to beat the berserk, you have to use it. So it's best to time with your cooldowns/pet defensive cooldown, but make sure to dispel it when burst isn't up.
Note that since berserk is 9min30, you can delay the bursts a bit, since you only have 5 for the fight.
Second, the AoEs on the ground do nearly nothing - except if you have reduced health. Then they must be avoided.
The cone from the boss will stun you for 12 seconds. It will probably kill you, or make you lose too much dps.
Third, when bosses activate a relic, mobs spawn.
For the visage from beyond, sometimes he fears you. And he lasts for 2 whole minutes. Fear can send you into the water (-99% damage/30 seconds), a stun from the boss, or a stun from the bubble orbs. So a fear is probably a wipe.
To deal with it, I always had the caster activate the relic first. Then I kept beast cleave up. My goal was to have one fear go off then getting the visage at 1 health - interrupting him - before the second one.
Careful though not to get the caster to activate the same relic twice - it will be an instant wipe. Make sure to switch to the melee boss as soon as the relic is activated.
The adds from the melee boss are easy if you have turtle. If not, dispel the debuff to get your max helath back, and interrupt one. If will probably miss you and, if not, deal around 80-90k : make sure to be full health.
Finally, the relics have an extra effect in Mythic. That effect gets stronger over time. The water one will summon bubbles that stun you for 8 seconds. The void one will attract you - it can get dangerous if you need to avoid the caster's cone or a bubble. The storm one will deal a little damage and kill you if you get under 25%.
The easiest rotation is storm - void - water. However you cannot rely on the debuff, and need to FD on CD near the end to avoid debuffs stacking.
So I had to do water - void - storm.
I was surprised when they died with 30 seconds to spare, but hey, they are dead.
First, the transition requires a strategy. You want to end the phase as fast as possible in order to beat berserk.
So I used soulshape to dodge the orbs, then interrupt the first add, then run to the second with cheetah and turtle.
Then I used my burst - with the beam - to quickly kill the mob with +500% damage. However, you must kill the unbuffed mob first or at the same time because when you kill the second mob, his "eye of the storm" dissapears - and the first mob becomes immune and heal.
For the stuns, there are several possibilities. They rarely hit you, but stun you for 6 seconds when they do. So you have 3 choices :
- put the craven strategem legendary (around 10% dps loss)
- use a pvp trinket (around 8-9% dps loss, very low risk of getting 2 stuns in a row)
- ignore it completely (sometimes you will get stunned)
I'm not sure which one is best. If you lack dps, you might want to go for the riskiest route. If not, craven strategem is the safest.
There is an interesting interaction with Craven Stratagem : it makes you immune from every debuff - except those specifically unaffected by immunities - but also from the immediate consequences from dispelling the debuff. You might see it as a 0.001 second immunity.
So if you FD the beam, the damage immediately activates - and is immuned because it was linked to the debuff.
Therefore, simply FD the toxic spines and beams. And turtle the beams you can't FD.
Remember also to take the first melee hit to avoid the boss stacking on pet.
Finally, if you do need to heal, the best moment is during a transition once you've reached the new platform.
We're starting with easy bosses.
The only strat on Sivarra is to avoid stuns : alternate turtle and pvp trinket to avoid her bolts - you'll need CD reduction on your turtle.
Then remember to move with the blue debuff and stay still with the green one.
After that, it's a dps race. Note tha even if I did kill her after berserk, I was in survival spec, not full single-target. So She should be doable with around 290 ilvl (before heart and trinket).
This was the hardest boss since Kil’jaeden Mythic, and an extremely complex one due to the strategy having tons of moving parts - so figuring out how to optimize dps and healing took a lot of work. And just like KJ, I barely managed to kill him 1 week before a patch that would have made him easy.
He took 734 tries. I’d say about 75-80% were P1 wipes though. He took a long time because I tried 3 different main strategies, and kept optimizing them then switching strategy and using what I had learned.
To illustrate, my best % in AoE spec was 8%, after a « perfect » try, around pull 300. I switched to Single Target (ST) spec and, having lost survivability, optimized survival and dps until I got another perfect try at 6%, about pull 450. So I switched to ST Execute spec, with even less survivability, and got a perfect 380k (4%) try around pull 600.
But around pull 700 I decided to go back to AoE spec, but with all the dps and survival optimisations - and killed him with 3 seconds to berserk. Even if the AoE spec had the least single target, because I had perfected my P2 dps and reduced how many cabalists I had to kill (survivability), I managed to get him to 41% while only using 1 burst in P2. Having an extra burst in P3 meant that the AoE spec did the most ST dps (plus other factors - see below for more details).
First, an overview of the fight :
Phase 1 lasts until 71%. A the 3:00 mark, you take -100% healing and a DoT. You have to transition him before you die. However, if you want to get to p3 at 7:40 (so you can have 3 bursts), you also have to transition him before 3:19.
Phase 2 lasts either until 41% or 3:45. If you don’t have enough dps he could enter phase 3 at 45% - and you need even more dps. You also have 12 cabalists, and the more healing you have the less you have to kill (survival = dps gain).
Phase 3 lasts until the berserk, at 12:00. It’s an instant wipe due to the AoE. 4min10 after he starts attacking, you will have the -100% healing AoE. This phase has the highest damage requirement.
In conclusion, here are the objectives :
Phase 1 : transition him before 3:19. Be full health before the 3rd ravage. Position the boss as to deal 0 ST damage to the adds.
Phase 2 : kill as few cabalists as possible (survival = more boss dps). This is also the hardest phase in terms of survival. Doing all that and getting the boss to but 41% is quite hard.
Phase 3 : Kill him before berserk. Pet takes a lot of damage - don’t let it die.
The hardest part of this fight is doing a perfect phase 2 that sets you up for victory.
Healing your pet is a dps loss if done outside « downtime ». Using mend pet at the right time is very important for dps, but hard to execute - and if your pet dies, you lose too much dps.
My gear/spec :
I am ilvl 280 - not BiS gear, but nearly.
As a hunter, a lot of my self-healing came from mend pet + exhilaration with leech. With 2 pets, it is doubled.
I had leech on 2 pieces, giving me 6,24% extra leech. Then I get either 10% or 15% leech from my pet.
Wild spirits also was a healing cooldown with my leech.
I tried 3 specs :
- ST : best dps in P1, middle dps in P2, middle dps in P3. Middle survival (2 pets) : you have to kill 8/12 cabalists in P2.
- Execute ST (1 pet but execute at 35%t) : worst dps in P1, worst dps in P2, best dps in P3. Worst survival (1 pet) : you have to kill 9/12 cabalists in P2.
- AoE spec : middle dps in P1, best dps in P2, worse dps in P3. Best survival (+5% leech, 2 pets) : you have to kill 7/12 cabalists in phase 2.
So, if the AoE spec has the worst dps in P3, why was it the one that, finally downed the boss ?
First, you only have 6 2-minute cooldowns. In ST spec, I needed 2 in P1, 2 in P2, and therefore only had 2 in P3.
But the AoE spec has the most damage in phase 2, since there are 2 targets. And having 2 less cabalists to kill meant I only had to do around 100k singe target instead of 300k :
- 4 cabalists die of cleave/AoE that I was already doing on Remornia, so no dps loss
- if I targeted a singe cabalist with 4 cleaves of the boss, he did 75% of the work
- if I can ignore 2 cabalists from the last spawn, I don’t have to go through the mirror : i slowly dps down with as much cleave as possible the last 2 cabalists I have to kill.
So I managed to get 3 burst in phase 3.
Also, having a second burst at 9:40 meant I could ignore a cabalist - I could survive 4 cabalists for 2 minutes, but not much more, so having a burst earlier was great. Note that with the 2/2/2 spec, I had to hold off my cooldowns for the 11:00 mark since I had to wait for pot/sigil (trinket).
But with a burst 1min20 sooner, I could both ignore an extra cabalist and it also meant I reached 20% faster, and had access to kill shot - a signifcant dps increase.
Finally, the AoE spec has the most downtime - and therefore loses the least dps if you add mend pet to the rotation. Also, your pet has more leech so he heals himself more.

Le geôlier avait tellement pas de thème que j'ai décidé que ce serait EDM.
On the plus side, the other bosses were rather easy given how much they were outgeared.
00:00 Blightborne : kill the adds, they are the only threat.
01:49 Amarth : my plan was to used CDs on the first adds and immune on the second adds. I underestimated how much damage they dealt though, I should probably have focused the ranged adds on the second spawn, used an immunity if needed and killed the boss before the third spawn.
03:43 Stitchflesh : he looks easy when he's getting utterly annihilated, but the important thing is to not have two abominations up at once - even if you have to reduce dps on the boss, make sure to kill the adds fast enough.
05:08 Nalthor : I have not found a way to avoid his Exile, and when he casts it he will despawn. You have to get him to 20% in 30 seconds, or he will cast it. So I used the weapons (not sur the hammer was worth it) and used all cooldowns. I had my talents and gear set up for maximum burst.
Your pet will die every 20 seconds if he's tanking both the boss and the dog. You will absolutely die if you tank any of the two for too long, since you are taking massive amounts of damage from multiple sources. Aggro management is extremely chaotic. But also, you have to FD at very specific times or you wipe/die. A single mistake costing you 10k health might kill you. So you have to go full survival - and then still beat the 15-minutes berserk.
So ultra-chaotic no mistakes allowed 15-minutes fight. It was fun.
First, gearing : 275 ilvl, but then reduced by using :
- the 216 ilvl 4,6% leech trinket - I had 21% leech - and ICD for the heal
- necrolord/Marileth : best for survival, but a serious damage loss
- turtle reduction talent + turtle reduction conduit to have a 2-minutes CD
- other conduits : hunter's mark damage reduction and anima spherule
- 4p + FD legendary (15 seconds FD, clears debuffs)
Of course, all consumables.
Now, the fight is divided in three phases - each one being, in a sense it's own fight.
Phase 1 : the hardest. The lunge deals massive damage. You can feign death it, but you have to be in FD when he lands - which makes it impossible to FD the DoT from sinseeker. Therefore, I decided not to FD the lunge. Then he also applies a bleed on your pet, meaning that your pet will die a lot.
For survival, you have 4 2-minutes CDs : necrolord, exhilaration, turtle and cheetah (allow you to kite). Use necrolord/exhilaration when needed to survive, and for turtle the best moment is for a lunge followed by a sinseeker : if you have to keep your FD but the dog is on you (because pet is dead), then turtle is best. Cheetah can also limit damage if lunge/sinseeker + aggro. After that, there is your leech : keep mend pet up, and if you get both bosses in the explosion Death Chakram healed about 20k health.
I also had the potion and ICD as panic buttons.
Wether you live or die will depend on how many melee you take from the bosses. I found the best was to feign death before or after a lunge, rez my pet (or let it die) then rez him once I knew I could misdirect afterwards. Of course, I had to make sure I had FD after the sinseeker - so either save FD, or FD sooner. Also, FD removes misdirection, so use them in the right order.
However, the fight is really chaotic, so you have to make decisions all the time.
Phase 2 : you have to tank the dog in order to FD rip soul. But if you tank the dog too much, you die. So you have to let your pet tank it a bit. But if he tanks it too much he dies, and you can't "waste" FDs or Rip Soul will wipe you. So it's all about very careful aggro management, no mistakes allowed.
The dangerous moments are the sinseekers - you have to take all three then wait for the rip soul before clearing the hard-hitting dot. If you have a CD, use it. If you took too many melees, you will die.
Note that the shades are actually very useful : they take +3000% damage, so leech healed me for 50k tics. And it healed my pet a lot : use them for regen.
Phase 3 : similar to phase 1, have both bosses on your pet. And pet will die often. Note that it's not free - you can still die very quickly if you find yourself with aggro and no FD/misdirect. Keep defensive CDs to save any mistake, especially if you have a sinseeker and no FD.
The problem will be to beat the 15-minute timer - so I tried to use ICD for damage when I could afford it, but knowing that is hard. I think hero is best used when your pet has his defensive available.
I didn't really optimise damage in my try - although I did try to have the double explosion hit both bosses as much as possible.
He will be easier with more gear (season 4 / 10.0 ?), for now I believe he's a great challenge.
He deals decent damage in phase 2 though, so you need some gear and the Aspect of the Beast talent.
But that's all. The abilities in phase 1 and 3 can be dealt with by running away, and in phase 2 by running to and from a seed.
So an easy boss, but things will get harder now.
But after Merci solo'd her, It proved we have enough dps to kill the boss before berserk
She hits hard on the pet, and you mustn't stay near her or she will bite you. So I was in Aspect of the Beast spec.
Other than that, it's just a dps race.
He was still more difficult than I expected. I had to hero in phase 2 to avoid dying, and phase 3 was tight in order to kill him before running out of room.
Then there is the tank combo. Either you sacrifice your pet, or you take a risk of getting a bad combo on you. I'm still not sure what the best move is here, but maybe let him cast twice on your pet, then FD your pet only if he cast the same spell twice - if not let your pet take the third hit and die.
First, I went in full damage spec, even if I lost survivability.
First, you want to use wild spirits to kill the adds.
Then, use turtle to avoid "bad" fears, especially during hero.
After that, optimize dps. For example, he sometimes grabs you if you''re in melee so try to avoid it.
I could have optimized more - using two pots, better essence optimization, and maybe the pvp trinket would have been worth the dps loss if I spent less time feared. But I didn't need to test it.
So you have about 10 minutes to berserk. Kill the monk first due to his teleport ability that can reduce your dps.
In phase 2, there is a safe spot.
For my second kill, I decided to check if it was really necessary with 9.2 gear. It's not.
The theory is simple : for the first two heals (2 adds), kill and add and interrupt the other. For the third one (4 adds), kill 3 with hero and interrupt the last one.
The one problem is the consecration from the melee add. Try to avoid him dropping it on the healers.
Unlike Rastakhan, this boss is all about gear - te strategy is very simple : kill the two mini-bosses before the boss reaches 100 energy.
Phase 2 is actually easier than in normal.
For phase 1, I do believe it's optimal to use all cds on the second mini-boss - the boss gains energy faster once one is dead.
However, perhaps hero should be used at the pull, since some of it is wasted if you wait too much.
Still, I'm not sure what is perfectly optimal. And as long as you are at 99 max, it's all good.
For phase 2, don't let the add reach the boss - slow and kill it.
You won't have another add unless you accidentally pick up the orb. Don't do that.
Link : bilibili.com/video/BV1pi4y1S7f7
So I decided to try him too. He was harder than expected, even with 275 ilvl (+ Heart of azeroth), and I did have to ultra-optimise the burst.
Now, in 9.1.5, the "fake" way to solo the boss was to have a second character in the 5th boss's room, so we would get grabbed by bwonsamdi. Here, we try to kill him during the transition to phase 3 - before we get instakilled.
The idea is that the boss doesn't transition during the cast, and bwonsamdi waits 7 seconds before instakilling you. Also, you can feign death, but your pets will not be able to solo the boss to the end if he's not low enough.
First, the spec : if you cannot kill him before having to FD, go for an Aspect of the beast spec. Killer cobra is better if your pets don't need to finish him off on their own though.
I also used stamped and Blood of the Enemy (azerite essence) since they have the best burst potential.
The strat is simple :
Phase 1 : do not use 3-minute CDs.
Phase 2 : use 2-minute CDs before the stun. This will avoid them being used during a mind control. Then start moving the boss to the corner.
The first mind control should dispel itself and de-aggro bwonsamdi.
Start getting the boss down, but keep him at 67% or more. He won't spawn totems under 67%, but he will summon one after his tank cast if under 60% - ruining your burst.
After the second mind control - which should dispel itself if you're near the middle of the room, although you can also outrange it (100 yards) - feign death until there is 20 seconds left until the next totem. This will delay his tank cast, allowing you to gain about 6% dps.
After the third totem, you will be able to burst. Get him near 60%, but not under it. Prepare your burst - Frenzy stack, hero, potion - and use spirits the instant he starts casting. Then burst as hard as you can.
In the video I FD'd too soon - you have 7 seconds once Bwonsamdi teleports to the middle, so make them count.
After that, have your pet spam his attacks. If you're in Aspect of the beast spec, your pet will survive long enough to do about 10% health.
If your second pet is about to die, use kill shot and try to kill the boss before you get instakilled.
One last thing : if an orb - from the gates - hits you, it will break FD. And you die.
So this boss will should be more easily doable next expansion, but mythic will be hard.
I wasn't disappointed : the bosses are challenging, Mailroom Mayhem is my first 100+ try boss in Shadowlands (192 to be exact) and my favorite solo this expansion. And Hylbrande was simple but unforgiving, better than the mage tower.
Unfortunately, there is an issue with So'leah : she's what we call a mechanically unsoloable boss : even with 10 times as much damage, she won't fall. Check the pinned comment for more info.
Now, for the bosses. I'll try to keep it simple.
00:00 : Zo'phex - TSFH, Fire Nation
He hits your pet very hard, so you have to kite. He sometimes makes you drop your weapon and you have to get it back, which can make kiting far harder. To avoid his imprisonment, alternate the adaptation pvp trinket and immunity (I forgot to try the potion). Or get far away from him so he doesn't cath you. You can use FD to make him cast it twice and buy time.
02:59 : The Grand Menagerie - TSFH, Unexplained Forces
You cannot feign death or the boss will despawn.
Keep all CDs for 40% and kill the devourer ASAP.
The Goliath deals a lot of damage. You have to dispel his shield and interrupt his tank spell or he will kill you or your pet.
It's a simple but intense fight.
06:10 : Zo'gron - Nick Phoenix, Dephx
The trash before him isn't hard if you CC a mage and manage well the rest.
The boss himself is easy, but he has an ability that can kill your pet.
08:04 : Mailroom Mayhem - Electro House, Nuclear
An extremely difficult fight.
His money AoE nearly one-shot me, I had to be full health, or be using the Necrolord ability. This is an issue since I also have to soak and soaking leaves a DoT.
For the soaking, try your best to keep the middle of the room clear, or it will kill you when you are trying to do the packages.
Then there are the packages :
First, I used the call of the wild legendary, turtle conduit and turtle talent to reduce my immunity to 1min20. Then I dealt with the spawns :
1 : pop turtle immediately, blow up 3 or 4 packages. Then do the rest. The open chute will be one of the two North ones (left or right).
2 : pop turtle on CD to avoid explosions 1,2 and 3. Throw pack 4 in one of the South chutes when it spawns. Explode 5 and 6 during immunity.
3 : no immunity. Throw all in a South chute.
4 : same as 1, but with a South chute.
5 : depending on the timer on your immunity, throw in one of the two North chutes the packs that will explode before it goes off CD. Immune and explode those that would explode after the immunity fades.
6 : kill the boss before they explode.
Finally, the boss hits very hard on pet and if he dies, you'll die too.
10:59 : So'azmi - Mozart, Turkish March
You can ignore most of the strat with the FD legendary since his abilities are DoTs that the legendary dispels. So he's easy because I can ignore most of the strat. He does hit very hard on pet though, it will die often.
14:24 : Hylbrande - Dies Irae Remix
First, reduce your turtle to 2 minutes with conduit and talent.
Then, do the following rotation :
- put the boss in the corner where there aren't AoEs on the ground
- get away from boss and kite the first beam to the boss. Adds will spawn - get them near the boss ASAP or they will attack and kill you
- kite second beam to boss, then adds spawn
- use all CDs on adds and kill them. If you are late, you will fail phase 2
- during phase 2, do the runes on your own. Use turtle in order to extend the phase and get your 2-minute cooldowns back when you need them
So simple but a single mistake and you are dead. And you have to do it many times.
21:54 : TimeCap'n Hooktail - Kirby, Pop Star
He won't breathe on your pet. So when you have too many adds on you, make your pet FD so you grab aggro. Use the breath to kill the adds. And don't die.
24:35 : So'leah - TSFH, The Legend of Aramis
Note : not a solo but a wipe. I can get through phase 1, and even survive phase 2, but not break the boss's immunity.
For phase 1, I killed the assassins if I had my CDs and resetted them with FD if I didn't. Another isssue is letting your et die at the right moment so he doesn't die at the wrong one.

With good timing, I can silence 2 heals in a row. I used wild spirits to fill the gaps, killing adds before they finished casting.
So I had to make a rotation :
If you need with 6 casts before you can kill the boss, use wild spirits for 1 and 4, and arrow for 2,3,5,6.
You can also do WS on pull for dps then WA/WA/WS/WA/WA if you think you'll kill her before the 6th cast.
In order to make it work, you have to pack the healers on the boss : when new ones spawn, go on the boss - they will run to you. Then once they start casting, get away and start misdirecting on your pet. However, you want to tank the crusader yourself to avoid their stun dans not having consecrations on the adds.
This is because, for the second wild spirit AoE burst, you can kill living adds in consecration but not dead adds in consecration - they have too much health.
So either you have one or both dead adds out of the consecration, or you'll have to cous one and kill the other.
I used heroism here because it's the riskiest moment.
For the arrow, to interrupt two in a row, you have to time it perfectly for the moment they start casting, then use it as soon as it is off CD for the next one.
Finally, after a prayer, have your pet destack by getting away from the boss. He'll die if he gets too many stacks.
However, phase 2 is an issue.
First, try to transition when your CDs are coming back up.
Then dps as much as you can before the orb one-shots you. It's completely random. So if you are lucky, you'll survive, if not you die.
That is why I used a cheat death. I knew I could do about 20% during the second burst, so I used my first burst at the start, waited for the pod to proc. Then I would have used turtle if I hadn't wasted it beforehand.
After that, you can grab the orb and kill the boss or, if he's too high on health, hope you don't get hit a second time before grabbing it.
So I had to optimize.
In phase 1, I had to limit as much as possible the use of multi-shot. However, it is necessary to keep your pet and yourself alive. So it's less of a rule than a gut feeling.
I found out that wild spirits and the focusing iris triggered a 160k dps explosion until all adds were dead. So it will clear all adds every 2 minutes.
You also have to keep mend pet up sometimes, in order to heal yourself and your pet, but while limiting dps loss.
And if you use the Extra action button, it heals yourself and your pet to full, even if it was dead. As such, you want to use it every 2 minutes, just before your burst, or when your pet dies. But you do not want your pet to die at the wrong moment. 2 minutes is enough for your sanity bar, and it's why I tanked the boss near Wrathion.
And as said before, multi-shot makes your pet heal a lot through leech.
Finally, to deal with the stun, I turtled during burst and tried to time the extra action button to avoid another - if I could afford it.
You want to transition him around the 4:50 mark at latest.
P2 : here the goal is to kill all the growths and use your burst before the 7:30 mark - if not, you won't have 2 burst for phase 3.
I found that if you disengage in the red goop, you loose the root. But it comes back if you move out then move back in, so careful not to go through a "clear" area. You can ignore sanity on the right side, but make sure to grab the sanity orbs on the left side. Also, you will take a lot of damage from the Eyes you never killed - don't forget your health.
When jumping down, start dismissing your pet - sometimes they don't follow you.
Then burst and get him to 40% before your cooldowns come back.
Use turtle to avoid both the stun and the sanity drain during the burst.
Finally, you need to grab the sanity orbs or you will go insane.
P3 : use the first burst asap. For the second, the best moment is 20 seconds before enrage or when you lose all your sanity. Don't take sanity orbs here, the buff can help. The fight is pretty much won if you managed to get here with enough time remaining.
First, it's a dps check - you have to kill the boss before enrage. A good benchmark is needing 1:50 per phase 1.
Then you need a way to avoid the Mind Control. I used Marileth's soulbind (immunity while channeling Fleshcraft), but the adaptation trinket works too (unless he despawns, which didn't happen on my hunter).
Try not to wast dps on adds, but if you start stacking the DoT you'll have deal with it.
Finally, the silence zones are annoying, but that's all.
This fight is about patience. It's not a dps race - I had the FD legendary and the leech trinket. I used Necrolord for survival too.
First, FD the stun.
Then, keep your pet on the boss to avoid the grip. You could theoretically get him on the tentacles while the boss is casting, but it seldom worked out for me, so I stayed safe.
Finally, only the eyes are truly dangerous. As such, every time eyes spawn, kill the eye or both if two spawn. Then take the ichor, and then dps the boss. Simply rinse and repeat unless the boss is sub 20%, in which case you can just grab a last ichor and tunnel him.
So it's about having enough gear and not panicking.
In phase 1, you want to use the pet FD when and orb spawns, kill the orb and take one tank debuff, then FD and misdirect on pet.
For the lightning add, make sure he has aggro on your pet. He ignores FD, so just don't grab aggro.
For the void add, kill him ASAP. He usually misses you, but when he doesn't he deals 50k and can one-shot you if you have another debuff.
Finally, if the void explosion hits you on the last bounce, you take 70k and are dead. It doesn't happen often, but it's annoying when it does.
You have time since the berserk is 15 minutes. Manage orbs, focus dps on Ra-den during lighting phase and void add during add phase.
In phase 2, decaying strike will OS your pet - except the first one if your pet has his defensive and/or you have exhilaration.
Use all dps cooldowns - your pet will start dying very often. Rez him, and avoid decaying strikes by misdirecting on your pet, Feign death, turtle or a cheat death such as Dreamweaver's.
I sometimes waited to rez my pet until after he had cast his strike on the second pet.
Done with 250 ilvl (not counting Heart of Azeroth).
So, let's talk about the AoE phase. It's at the start of phase 1, and you have a lot of small adds and one big ravager.
In short, you focus ravager, use all cooldowns, and kill the adds.
Here is everything that can go wrong :
- you die : facetanking 20 adds and a boss will deal a lot of damage. To survive, I use the Niya soulbind (+16% health on burst) and I had 25% leech - pet, talent, shard, enchant and the siphoning blood-drinker trinket (216 ilvl, 4,5% leech). For example, a black arrow was about a 50k heal.
- your pet dies : if adds aggro you pet, he will take a lot of damage. First, he must have his CD available - make sure to spam mend pet between AoE phase, and to deactivate taunt so he only tanks one boss. Also, Ka'zir seems to do less damage. Make sure to have beast cleave at all times
- the haste debuff from Ka'zir : interrupt the first during the burst, and I dispelled the second with my dwarf racial
- Ravager won't die : if the ravager has the regen buff, once you've used up all your CDs, you'll be in a very bad place if he's still alive. So make sure to avoid the haste debuff, and start dpsing once all is in place (pet on ravager, no immunity...).
In hindsight, I wonder if I should have used my immunity for the AoE setup.
I'd suggest using heroism on the first and fourth AoE phase.
For phase 1 :
- manage the pet boss by misdirecting it if your threat gets too high, and try to keep aggro on the hunter boss. Aggro management is another common cause of wipe here.
- Ignore the flyers. You want to put as much dps as possible on the hunter boss, or health bars will be unbalanced.
Phase 2 :
Run around in circles, and kill flyers. This is annoying since with them flying around, you have to adapt to avoid them becoming immune.
