Cutting the leather, making the core. Hawaiian style whips are braided “backward” from the narrow end of the whip up to the handle. Traditionally they were made of rawhide and attached to a wooden handle like an Australian stockwhip. This project is for a simpler all-leather version with no wooden handle. So technically it would be categorized as a snakewhip. The braided backward construction creates a smooth and seamless whip body with no dropped strands and no knot at the fall. It also allows you to build a whip from one tapered piece of leather (or rawhide). All knots end up at the handle end. Therefore they can become part of the handle itself.A8E70D3C 0AC0 4F42 A277 3B756DD57504mauifarrier2019-05-25 | Maui style Hawaiian saddle rigging.
