Maytag Whirlpool Refrigerator Door Seals Replaced in Fridge and Freezer Retro Tech & Electronics 2024-05-03 | Today we'll be replacing the seals on this Maytag French door Fridge / Freezer combo. This was necessary after 10 years with the gaskets cracking and mold forming. An attempt was made in this video to purchase from Ebay to see if that would save money, it only cost more in the end. Note the freezer was an OEM purchase. A quick disassembly of some items is required on the left side door. Pulling off the door seals one by one, the amount of mold under the seal is evident. A cleaning with a disinfectant of the door and all mating surfaces is necessary before continuing. The pieces removed from the door maybe containing mold as well requiring cleaning.I install the old seal after carefully straightening with a heat gun, after installation the heat gun is used again to help remove irregularities. Just spending the day on the hood of the car in the sun all day was all that was needed to straighten it. After soldering the supplied pins onto the board, It will be wired into the development board along with my 240x240 tft LCD display module and my 4x20 LCD module assist with the development.We get underway in VScode with platform IO. Installing the relevant Alibraries and get through a few library challenges. A quick test of the supplied example and everything is working. Then its time to add the LCD to provide into so we can detach from the computer.An example on the bench shows good function of XYZ on the LCD display. Now its time for the TFT LCD display. the tft_espi library is installed and configured for the LCD display. Basic code is added to test the tft display, a red colour means it worked.Initially I was going for a simple design, instead I saw a project from a channel I enjoy , Volos Projects, link below, In this project there was a rotating gauge that I believe could be adapted to a compass.Having downloaded the project it would need lots of changes to work in the compass project. There are two modes of operation, regular and expert, regular being a cartoon representation of items behind the wall, expert, more of a heat map. Expert mode in my opinion is more useful. I could not find an effect for the slider in expert mode however. Some momentary false positives appear, but not long enough to trick the user. Comparisons made with other beam finders were interesting. Obviously magnetic ones would only work for nails, but the zircon at a tenth of the price gave the Walabot a run for its money.#walabot #unboxing

The drip coffee side is tested first. Though i'm not a fan of drip coffee I do so for the video. The drip coffee also has an added auto-start feature in conjunction with a clock to auto start the perking in the morning. This was also tested. Cleanup steps are conducted for the drip side thereafter.Moving onto the espresso side. There are a lot more things going on as expected. Note the pod filter portion will not be used in the video nor will the single filter portion, only the double. The spoon supplied is also the tamper for the portafilter. A cleaning is conducted on this side as per the manual just as the other side.For testing, i'm using the same beans as I use in my Jura S8. Espresso Italiano, and since this machine doesn't grind beans, i've purchased a manual grinder. An electric one would be fine too, this one has multiple settings for coarseness, which i'd experimented with until I'd found the ideal setting. Furthermore note that there is no autostop feature on this machine for single or double shots so I have also purchased a shot measuring cup to solve for this issue, showing 1 or 2 oz which is what i need. Another observation is the performance without preheating. The portafilter seems to soak a lot of the heat if cold as shown in the thermometer testing. The peak with just water on the second run was 174deg which was still below the requisite 195deg but this is not a 3000$ machine.I did use the supplied spoon in this video as well as the supplied tamper. Calling for 2 level spoons for a double. The tamper works but is delicate. its important to tap and distribute the grinds first. Frothing follows and the volume is of course subjective to the application, but overall the frother works well.The first cappuccino was surprisingly awesome. We conduct a cleanup procedure for the video afterwards.Once cleaned, further tests were conducted to see how long the machine runs before the light starts flashing, meaning it no longger has the pressure/temp for espresso. Admittedly the results weren't good. 3/4 to the 2os mark.Ive added an after market tamper/distributor to the mix, i want to check the results when the coffee is know to be evenly placed and pressed in the portafilter. Its adjustable, so it took me a few tries to get it right for this setup.Retesting with coffee stopping at the light using a double in the portafilter, the light on the unit started flashing at about 17ml, ideally it should have been 60ml. But again its not a 3000$ machine. Most people would not notice.#espresso #capuccino #coffee

My equipment included a manifold gauge set which was cleaned and pre-checked with my vacuum pump.In the evening I go around with my UV lamp and goggles looking for any artifacts of a leak since the car came with a tracer dye in it. Under the unit a known issue is found. The relief valve on the compressor. Nothing else found I connect my gauges and see whats what. Finding a small amount of gas is left, at least enough to do some gas leak testing with my ILD-100 leak tester, going around the interior and exterior of the car for any type of gas reading, both the low pressure and high pressure fittings are tested and another known issue, the high pressure fitting has a leak.So two confirmed leaks - the compressor relief value, and the high pressure fitting. We go down the the service shop to have the remaining gas purged.The Acdelco fittings from GM are garbage, so the high pressure fitting should be replaced with Dorman 800-955 as shown in the video. The compressor relief valve is GM part number 25886939.With the parts replaced the entire system was vacuumed down to -30lps for an hour and tested for another hour or so.The weight of the gas from this car was shown on a shroud above the fan. This meant one full bottle and one partial bottle of R-134 as measured on a scale. This car takes 410grams, a standard bottle is 340. As it approaches the correct amount of refrigerant the system stabilizes.A digital thermometer in the vent evaluates the success of the job which came out working like new.#cobalt #airconditioningrepair #chevrolet

The No Flow indication on, with the pump running. Standard troubleshooting procedures begin to isolate the issue to either the switch side or the control unit.Ruling out the control unit with a loopback showing good operation, the switch side then rules out blockages that might cause the issue and then ultimately leading to the switch which is shown to be damaged upon removal. Hayward Maxflo VS Pool Pump Motor Drive Unit Repair - Part 2 Retro Tech & Electronics 2023-06-02 | ***Please be aware that voltages found in this unit should be handled by experienced individuals only***With the need parts now here we continue with part two where im working on the housing in an attempt to clean up all of the oxides that formed in the unit. Cleaning and scrubbing was needed in multiple sessions before all could be removed. During its drying id attempted to removed the broken screw, sadly failing short of the goal in the worst way; broken drill bit.After this event the rest of the pump was cleaned up to remove all dirt and inspect seals. id taken a look at the cleaned up part and determined that an application of inox overnight would further help. The fan and shroud also benefited from a cleaning and will help keep things quiet.The broken screw had a thin coat of RTV applied to reduce any vibration noise as the shroud is re-added , this time with anti seize. RTV us also used around the old bottom seal which was long gone so that the bottom portion can be re-added onto the pump motor and secured down. The thermal tape then removed from the surfaces and cleaned with acetone. All of the small plastic parts are cleaned with Jacks 327 applied to any orings for assembly. This includes the two drain plugs, the input/output seals and the basket cover. The logic board, which was removed for testing and inspection is re-installed into the top cover, Following this the connectors coming from the motor are sprayed with Deoxit. Making my way to the drive unit the Rectifier is carefully cleaned up with acetone to remove the thermal tape residue. Using a de-soldering pump the IC is de-soldered from the board, fresh solder is needed with flux for all pins to accomplish this. With the old chip removed the pads are further cleaned out with the solder sucker adding fresh solder first. This is followed by a cleanup with alcohol.The new IRAMX chip is inspected and mounted into the board, stood off a few mm and taped on. Proper floxing is followed by soldering of the new chip onto the drive unit. Again, everything cleaned with Alcohol. A power on test shows the power supply to be working with the new IC installed. The power rail does show a good 15VDC.A further reading of documentation gives me a good idea of my mystery capacitor settling on 4.7uf after deinstalling the temp one. Retesting again with the new cap, all is good. using mastic, i remade the insulation removed in part one based on the size of the two i salvaged. pressing them into the bottom of the tray i can see their original location. Then thermacoolflux is applied to the heatsink surfaces. The board is then layed on and secured loosely until all screws are in. then orderly tightened.Black RTV is used to replace the outer seal, long dried out. a bead is applied around the whole unit. Then the top cover is applied and tightened down, excess RTV cleaned up. The pump is re-installed into position, water and electric. A temporary wire up is conducted outside the provisions, a power up shows a good indication on the panel. The pump starts to prime, though I stop to preload the basket with water and re-power the unit. This is left to run supervised as it is monitored for noise and smoke. Everything is ok. Also not quiet with the fan cleaned out.The cabling is installed permanently into the system, dielectric grease applied to the grounds. Some RTV was added to the remote cable entryway and the top cover reinstalled. $30 to save $1500 with a few hours work.#haywardpump #poolpump #diyelectronics

Hayward Maxflo VS Pool Pump Motor Drive Unit Repair - Part 1 Retro Tech & Electronics 2023-04-21 | ***Please be aware that voltages found in this unit should be handled by experienced individuals only***While viewing the readings of my pool a day after adding salt, I had realized that the control panel was blank with no power indication. This happened after some bad weather though all power was secured during this event and we had no power issues at that time. I will however cut off power to my main breaker as I prepare to open the cover of the unit to conduct some basic troubleshooting.Most know from my previous video that my faceplate has been remoted, and the top of the pump has a blank faceplate. The cover removal exposes my AC connection as well as my connections to the remote faceplate. With the re-application of power a quick check on AC shows that the correct AC voltage is in fact making its way to the pump. Sadly this is going to be a Pump issue and not a simple breaker issue. A DC voltage check on the faceplate lines shows a strange low voltage fluctuation that is definitely not looking good.With these findings it was time to cut power and disconnect the cables from the pump. The water, seen in the water tight area where the cables were removed is a sign of things to come. Id set everything up fr the pump to be easily removed, it took but two minutes to pull after the cabled were disconnected after all plugs pulled and everything drained. Since its coming inside, the pump was washed to remove all sorts of accumulated crud.Set up inside the house the first order of business was the removal of the fan shroud. One screw was rusted and snapped off. The wife had complained it was loud and we found that the debris was causing it. The motor itself was spun and felt really good. Whatever is going on, its not a binding motor or bearing issue.Unscrewing of the top cover begins, the center screw is dealt with very carefully as its filled with water and rust, cleaned and oiled for later. T25 anti tamper is used for the cover bolts on the underside, allowing its removal. Its a good idea to check the filter caps at this point before continuing because they can hold a considerable charge after an hour and ruin your day. Waiting is key.Initial observation shows that a water leak has been going on for a very long time, its origin not yet known. The oxidation on the aluminum is a tell tale sign. While drying out the middle screw, soaking in oil, is carefully removed. Two further screws on the side are removed that secure the drive unit. Followed by T15 bolts that secure the board into the housing, 5 of those. A T10 removed the heat sink screws. Even with all this, there are several components held on with mastic so it must be removed carefully. Finally the board is separated by a four pin connector.With the board removed the full extent of the damage inside can be seen, all on the left side where the caps are. Also it is evident that Capacitor C6 has exploded and a note is made. A determine is made from historical footage as to why only half of the unit filled with water. Attempts are made to clean the destroyed capacitor to get a marking off of it but its too far gone. The capacitor was then removed from the board, the are cleaned up.Troubleshooting then begins working from mains back. Through a variety of components in a logical order making my way to the rectifier. Note that during testing I didn't need 240 volts but substantially less was used from my Variac , around 45VAC, low enough voltage to prove out the rectifier and basic filtration. Making my way to the IC TNY274 I was able to further analyze the switch mode power supply with the documentation as well as the inclusion of a temporary capacitor where the old one was ruined. The drain and enable pin and DC output shows an artifact that demonstrates an over-current condition somewhere. Taking a quality guess showed a particular rectifier that might be the culprit, pulling it off the rails removed the protect condition from the TNY274 so its a good indication. The rails are checked and stable, this IC will need to be ordered and replaced.#haywardpump #poolpump #diyelectronics

Yamaha VSTAR 1100 Computer Assisted Carb Jetting & Tuning with an LM2 Computer Retro Tech & Electronics 2023-03-23 | Many people have asked for this video so Ive finally put it together. I demonstrate the installation of the LM2 kit onto this VSTAR 1100, Note a small modification into the exhaust for this. Though not necessary with another attachment. Ill go over all of the parts and pieces before a step by step of the temporary installation. I have a port which Ive added onto my bike making it easier for the ignition pule to be added to the cable from this kit. Because I have the single sensor kit, I will have to do the test twice Had I known at the time, having a vstar I would have both the dual kit to do both carbs at the same time. Finishing the wiring, a quick smoke test confirms everything is ready to go. The calibration step is demonstrated for the video.Lastly in the install the O2 bung is removed for the first pipe and the O2 sensor installed. My helmet cam will capture the bike on video to match the data. I have a separate video for SD card interfacing. Out setup will not be powered through the ESP32 so I'm setting up an HW-131, a well known cheap DC power supply for this task. In PlatformIO, I first attempt an easy example, copying from examples into the source folder from under the 320x240 sub folder to ensure correct operation and wiring of the device, the example is working correctly. Following this, a touchscreen example is loaded for testing, we can see that it does not compile, but I show why Arduino IDE examples do not always work out of the box, once modified for platformio, it proves to also work correctly, completing this demonstration.#esp32 #platformio #arduino
Irobot Roomba Tire Replacement Made Easy + Internal Maintenance Retro Tech & Electronics 2023-01-27 | Today well be replacing the tires on this Roomba I7+. After a couple of years the tread has simply worn down and this is a maintenance item which is cheap and easy to replace to keep the Roomba functioning properly. While were in the unit further maintenance will be conducted. Though before getting started general maintenance will be done at a minimum so the device isn't disgusting to work on.Some Roomba's have a cover to remove the battery and some don't. The battery for the latter resides under the main cover.Note all of the dirt that collects in the unit even with general maintenance regularly conducted. this is a great opportunity to clean out the device while were in there. The wheel packs come out separately with the old tires pulled off and replaced, with each item removed, more dirt found to clean out. Also as shown in the video I found a way to clean up the rollers like new, as they get really nasty. Chevy Cobalt Oil Change in the Driveway - Why its Cheaper and Better Retro Tech & Electronics 2022-12-30 | Today well be changing the oil in this 2008 Chevy cobalt, also were discussing WHY were doing it ourselves and not paying someone else to do it. Not just from an economical standpoint but from a quality standpoint. The video goes into specifics ion this matter.I'm using ramps in the video, I generally don't use ramps, I use jacks, this was done to demonstrate for the video. I also find my ramps are about done, and end up adding jackstands to these ramps.I start with the removing of the under-hood plastics, returning the oil cap, taking the opportunity to do a quick inspection. Locating the oil pan bolt, checking the temperature of the pan we find it safe to proceed setting up a catch pan. At home, one has the luxury to drain their oil as long as they want, not the 2 minutes as usually done in a shop, but while draining we move to the filter. The filter cap is cleaned out and inspected for re-use. An OEM Acdelco oil filter is used PF457G.Still letting the oil drain, I take the time to clean all of the plastics before re-installing them atop the engine. I go in and edit this video for a while and come out an hour or so later to finally clean up the oil pan bold the pan and close everything up.With this particular car ill add 4 quarts and then use the dip stick for the final measurement when its off the ramp. Its easier to add oil then remove it.I finish off by resetting the oil counter on the car following the procedure in the manual with the oil status back at 100%.#cobalt #diyautorepair #chevrolet
Jura Automatic Coffee Machine - Stop Wasting your money on Milk Frother Cleaning Supplies Retro Tech & Electronics 2022-12-16 | I had started drinking significantly more milk inclusive coffee selections since moving to the new machine as of late, though while I don't mind the added maintenance that comes along with it, I have noted the added cost. What bothers me is the apparent waste in the process that is found in an already expensive requirement for a Jura branded cleaning product. Its easy to see looking back from my initial review of the unit and the changeover from liquid to the pellets that its not getting cheaper. Evaluating the cost and the total uses per item we can see what were dealing with for daily maintenance. We find that cost aside, its not being use effectively nor efficiently, and were actually dumping money down the drain as demonstrated specifically in the video. Every owner will be dealing with this issue sooner or later, so its a good idea to know how to fix it. I stress before breaking into the device to remove the sprayer or some cringe-worthy idea of jamming toothpicks into the sprayer in a futile attempt to repair it, that the filter below the fluid canister be removed and inspected. This membrane filter is a likely culprit and mineral deposits will render it useless. Ultimate Cuisinart Breadmaker Review as Compared to the Breadman Retro Tech & Electronics 2022-09-09 | Today well be reviewing this Cuisinart CBK-200 bread-maker. I'd purchased this machine to replace the Breadman due to failing Teflon adhesion as demonstrated in the last video. This gives us not only an opportunity to do another review, but to compare the two appliances.Breadmanamzn.to/42dBxvzCuisinart CBK-200 Convection Bread Makeramzn.to/3yI1iXcAfter an unboxing we find that the extras provided for the Breadman were a bit better, also on the Breadman the mixer swivels down. The manual for the Cuisinart was better written than the Breadman. The Breadman was also found to have typos in our recipes.Our first attempt uses the corrected Breadman recipe. Note the Breadman has an auto seed dropping feature, this machine does not, only a notification to do so manually.While I let it be on the first attempt, if found that initial mixing needs a helping hand as far as dough getting caught on the sidewalls and not mixing in. Also seeds need some manual help for good distribution. I did assist on the second attempt.On a 3rd attempt we went with a Challah as a random selection. Yamaha VSTAR 650 Rear Gear Oil - Check , Inspect and Change Retro Tech & Electronics 2022-08-27 | In this video I will conduct what is a standard rear gear oil change procedure on a Star 650 after checking the level and inspecting the old oil. These changes are part of the maintenance schedule just like the motor oil. Its important to check the level before draining to help determine a leak. A 17mm wrench is the only size needed for the task. The bike should be upright for checking requiring a stand, or two people. I have found that my level wasn't low, so I could proceed, if it was, I would check all seals and drain plugs for leaks. Draining the oil, I take my time for it to sufficiently drain as the bolts are cleaned up, the 650 unlike the 1100, has no magnetic bolt on the bottom of this bike. If the crush washer is leaking, it should be replaced. 17ft/lbs or 205in/lbs is set for my torque wrench. A look at the oil shows no worrying debris, so now the plug can be reinstalled and torqued down. To make filling easier, just under .2 litres was measured and added to the unit. Final top off was done by eye to the bottom of the screw threads. This is done as measured with the bike leveled, two people maybe necessary.
