(YTP tennis) Michael Rosen meets Sony Vegas
updated
this was a bit of a gruelling task, but i think the video turned out really well despite that.. although some would say i got carried away.. lol
anyway Being Pressured and Rushed to finish and hurry up is not a fun experience.. so this kinda ate all up all my time during this spring break. ah well: i got to try out yet more new techniques, and hone my skills further.
the finals of TC5 are gonna be fun,.,,....,,,, hh

that's right, i composed and produced an original piece of music for this! i'm very happy with how it turned out! ALSO! feel free to use this wherever you like! (if you use this, i'd be interested to know where it ends up)
thanks to nm41 for the beepy ambience near the start
oh boy, the visuals though
what a project, i spent most of december up to this point, working tirelessly on these 3d visuals, and it was *difficult.*- it was really starting to take its toll on me mentally, and uhh, it was not fun! not doing this again.
but it was either that, or having to live with the shame of failure to deliver. temporary suffering, over permanent regret any day. i can look back on this for years to come and go "I made that!!"
ANYWAY!
the process was an interesting one. originally, when I was planning this in november, i was going to make the credits, and this piece of music was going to go there, my main inspiration was from two sources, the primary one being from from the music used in the finale section of round 6 of system128 and mrdoognoog's match in mvt2- the track "Lit Fuse" by Cacola, and the other was VinylCheese's NES cover of "The Street Loader" from the c64 game "The Last Ninja 2".
so, with those influences, I got to work, and I gradually found out that what would've been a credits theme seemed alot more appropriate as the intro track- it didn't quite fit my super-specific idea of a finale theme. After some debate, cashlost2 was to make a cover/remix and use that for the credits. the cover was made, and I'll link here when possible, but cash burnt out- and the remix went unused.
With the visuals, I spent the first 10 days making the landscape, I had to use some geometry-node wizardry, using game-dev techniques, such as LODs, and rendering only what the camera can see- pay attention to distant cubes! they are not as detailed as close-up ones. My original plan was to go for a ray-marching fractalscape, but I do not have the coding prowess, so instead, I resorted to plain old menger sponges. the thing that took me a while though was that early in the project, my motivation was already fading: I had worries about what I'd put for the text, whether it'd be too boring, and that ate away at me until I finished the whole scene.
The fog was difficult, it made render times really slow, and I thought it looked kind of ugly, so I rendered it layer by layer, and compiled it in Vegas instead. This worked surprisingly well. A last-minute detail though, was the "projected" visuals, which comprised of a 4x4 video grid, being split up, and then randomised, using a single attribute- kudos to Ivan for helping me pick them, which saved a few hours of time.
The next scene simply comprises of a cut down version of the menger landscape, with the round 10,000 text, there nothing particularly of note. most of the trickery is going on with the material instead, using the frame count and the BPM to time the flashes.
The scene with the usernames was tricky to figure out. I knew that just showing a big block of text, or a scrolling wall of names would not be very nice to look at, but I didn't really have that many options, so I decided I'd make it 3D. This required the use of scripting, to save me manually writing and coping text for every single person. I put the names into a straight line, and wrapped them in a cylinder. My original plan was to have the names line up and flash in a vertical line, but I figured this would not be feasible, so the next best option was to make them flash randomly, which I think turned out even better!
The next scene, the trees, was only possible thanks to a recent development with Blender, the "Repeat Zones", added in Blender 4.0, which allowed me to recursively branch the trees, allowing for a dynamic landscape. The floor was just a simple Voronoi texture. The fun part was making the big tower. I can't handle UV maps in geometry nodes yet, so I had to manually figure out the material instead, which took a lot of troubleshooting: creating it from scratch inside the material instead. Again, massive kudos to the rest of the team for helping me pick all the thumbnails used in the tower.
the next major part used a technique called a Random Walk, which picks a point, and then chooses a random direction from a list- and here, I used an "age" value, and applied a gradient to it, which makes it looks like its being created, or "growing": Another unused aspect was that this was originally to come directly out of the top of the tower, but I decided on a big cool looking laser instead.
The planet scene again, isn't that complex, mostly using random noise, and a transparent material found in a tutorial, and again, using a similar "Age" value, Finally, the end scene was effectively a reprise of the original, but with extra stuff added.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for watching! (5000 char limit, sorry)
i've taken the (less) compressed .mpg file, deinterlaced it to 60fps, and upscaled it to 1080p so that youtube doesnt completely mangle it- all to bring it back here for The Masses, because I think more people need to see it:

"Good Afternoon Lost Media Wiki Team -
Thank you so much for your inquiry about one of the stranger aspects of Pittsfield Community Television's history! I would be happy to provide you with the full program (as we have it from an old VHS tape) as well as some historical information:
(dead google drive link, sorry)
The program, a part of a larger series the source of which we don't have access to in our institutional memory, originally aired on Channel 6 Public Access in Tarrytown, NY in during the evenings in late 1985. The program was clearly a low-fi series of absurdist vignettes, with a single camera angle, curtain and pre-recorded audio - the VHS import that we have includes the best known "What's Your Problem" skit along with a whole series of others.
It's historical importance to Pittsfield Community Television started when it first aired on our channels in 1988. Garrett McCarrey, then the Executive Director of PCTV, brought the program with him from Tarrytown. At the time, PCTV's "broadcast day" consisted of Wednesdays, and the "What's Wrong With You" skit would be played in a fashion similar to the National Anthem would to end production for the week.
As PCTV matured, the program went out of circulation on our air. That said, the program has been lovingly kept in our digital archive since about 2013 when it was converted from VHS to MPG.
I hope this helps your efforts - if you have any interest in additional PCTV programming, please feel free to reach out at any time, and we'll do whatever we can to be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Matthew"
round 3, infinitysnapz vs @system128
edit: yknow, i like to write these big old summaries and descriptions as i think it's a good signifier for future purposes, it shows what i'm thinking at the time, instead of just "round X vs Y".. but man i can get into a real downer mood sometimes, in the 6 or so hours this has been out, the round has already grown on me alot. interesting.
(original desc)
goddammit system why did you have to make r2 so long man, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rr r
putting this round together was fun until it was 3hrs before i had to go to bed, and then i began to fall apart on the inside. as is with most tournament rounds, most of the progress was made on the last day, but i think it shows quite badly here; having not had time to fix pacing some stuff just generally feels off here. that being said though i've been able to demonstrate some new Technology:tm:, so that's fun. blender is amazing
quick little video, tried to take a razerek'ish approach
round 1, infinitysnapz vs @system128
seems like this is the set of rematches- angryluigi and doog are already playing a game, and so are system and i- not exactly ideal...
for a while, this round was looking like it was going to be a complete failure; i was originally going to have a different serve concept- but i think I managed to pull this back quite well, and i'm rather happy with this round, even if it's a little short for my liking.
round 5, infinitysnapz vs @nubman41
this round is overdue, but thanks to the power of extensions, it suddenly isn't! wow! aint that cool!
.....i have no clue how people did 3 minute rounds in 4 days in the previous sets
round 3, infinitysnapz vs @nubman41
it's a round that exists.
i'm quite happy with this one albeit the original analogue-ish style has been replaced with The Computer Cyber type stuff, but that's ok with me lol; communication matters alot with tennis, and old computers are a subject both me and nm41 are into.
in other thoughts, i've been using alot of blender lately, but i think the visuals in this round will be about as visually complex as i will go, as i believe making full-on scenes conflicts rather alot with my style- that being said, i do still intend to explore what blender can do for me
infinitysnapz vs everyone
volleying blumndy's round 2:
this is not my finest work in my opinion, some parts of this feel a little unpolished for my liking, but this round is quite overdue, so it is what it is really /shrug
round 1, infinitysnapz vs @nubman41
first round made as "Official Youtu Poop Tennis Starf"
very happy with this round, pushed some new personal boundaries with this one, and i experimented quite a bit.. the extended deadline really helped me here, because i didnt have to worry about deadlines as much. that being said, i'm a little bit surprised i managed to pull off an 8-bit guy poop this well, as at the beginning i had absolutely zero ideas on what i was gonna do.
originally i was gonna put a vhs filter over this but, but i think ill save that for later rounds, i just wanna release this
round 6, @piotrek117studios vs infinitysnapz
music is "now turning in dream" by phogy (phg-ntid.xm); abridged to 2 mins
so the saying "you are your own worst critic" still very much rings true for me, as i've got criticism for myself, that nobody else would notice. it might seem overly negative, but i think these "post-mortem" type retrospectives help me to improve in the long run
i feel like my performance this set has been weaker than my match with gabiwoda, and i've felt less confident overall. i think this could be a result of the sources; i've always just preferred random Things:tm: instead of making videos that more resemble ytps- things like analogue recordings, are my favourite sources to use for some reason.
anyway; i think despite all that, this round turned out okay
tried some new techniques i've never done before, such as major blender usage, one of those cliche music rounds, etc, etc. round 5 had me impressed/worried enough to push me out of my comfort zone, so props to piotrek for that i guess lol
dunno though, enjoy or something lol
round 4, @piotrek117studios vs infinitysnapz
this one's a rough one for sure, some parts, especially towards the end, i'm not 100% happy with, i had to rush a good portion of this out due to my poor work efficiency.
ah well. that's just the way it is, i guess
round 2, @piotrek117studios vs infinitysnapz
at first i wasn't feeling this round, but i think it's ok enough to release and feel happy with.
the last 10-15 seconds are pretty rough though. i think this match could go an interesting direction despite all this

Before I explain the rules, it might help to introduce the concept first:
Personally, I consider a video to be "crust" if it has a low quality, or distinctly amateurish, or charm about it:
To word it in a different way- a Crust video is one that is poorly made/has interesting quirks, but is not 100% ironic in intent, for instance.
I have a playlist of videos like this, that can be viewed here (I strongly recommend you view this if you need an idea) - youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRytpodVQwThNpChs4mE8TL1meSrQbTKw
It should be noted that this is very subjective, and what counts as valid "Crust" differs between people
So- the rules are relatively laid back:
1- Please don't go super overboard with software watermarks, and please include your own: In general, a majority of the video should be viewable without obstruction.
2- Although crust is subjective, I might reject or cut down parts at my own discretion- typically in cases where I deem it to not fit the "feel" of the collab.
3- Max length is five minutes per part.
4- Don't include egregiously explicit or otherwise overly offensive things in your submissions- (swearing IS allowed, obviously!).
5- You do not need to worry about it being unlisted or not- do whatever you please with your entry.
6- If I dislike your behaviour- be that on youtube, discord, or anywhere in general, I may not include your part(s)
Your submissions do not have to be a YTP, they can be as experimental or as mundane as you like- and infact, I strongly encourage experimentation here- just as long as it is not a stolen video, of course.
In order to submit a part, either DM me on Discord- (@infinitysnapz), or send it on the YTPmania thread. (ytpmania.net/t/the-crust-collab/16386)
There is no hard deadline, but I would want to see this released in August or September
Thank you, and good luck
round 5, infinitysnapz vs @gabiwodaofficial
gg!!!
this set has brought me 12 days straight of editing! after round 3, it was immediately back to work. i'm surprised i haven't burned out already
again.
in terms of the round itself, like last time, i wasn't feeling this it at first, but i think it has turned out reasonably well; albeit containing a little bit too much filler for my liking. the 'horror/apocalypse' theme seems to have mostly gone away now, but that's just how things unfold, i guess.
round 3, infinitysnapz vs @gabiwodaofficial
it's certainly a round, i guess
at first i wasnt feeling it but i've managed to turn it around nicely
unfortunately, the horror theme has mostly been pushed to the wayside- i do believe however, that this is the first ever ytpmv i've included in a tennis round
round 1, infinitysnapz vs @gabiwodaofficial
quite happy with how this turned out: i think i'm over my style crisis, i am feeling alot better about my videos than i used to.
at first though, i had no idea what i wanted to do for this match, i was originally going to go for a much more experimental style! that unused serve may turn up later however. the sources i chose for this have a common theme of being ""spooky"", which i think creates an interesting feel for the round, and i hope it sets the tone for the match.

this album is intended to be enjoyed as one singular "piece", rather than split into distinct tracks.
i'm really happy to be making my musical "debut album", and i'm a little bit nervous about releasing this, so i really hope you enjoy!
the idea behind this came from a very distinct visual that popped into my head as i was taking a walk, and i just could not get it out of my head, but i knew i had to share it around somehow, so i took the time to make it into a piece of music that can be experienced by others!
feel free to do whatever you please with this music - credit would be nice, and I think it would be interesting to find out where this ends up being used. thank you!

quite happy with this, general sources
either contact me on discord, leave a comment, or head to this YTPmania thread: ytpmania.net/t/infinitysnapz-vs-everyone-chain/16012
rules are relatively relaxed: they are as follows
- you can only make one round in this match
- you have 30 days to make your rounds- extensions are allowed however, just DM me
- if you choose to drop out, or if your time expires, your slot will be opened, and anyone will be able to replace.
- round slots will generally (but not always) be opened 12-at-a-time
- entrants and participants may be removed at my own discretion; if i don’t like something you do, i am not obligated to let you make a round.
not a forced rule, but sources should be generally thematically similar to the ones used prior

- no layers can have 'Source Alpha', or '3D Source Alpha' as their compositing mode.
- the round's audio must be panned slightly to the left
- add 16 media generators
- any 'position' sliders can only be between (0.25, 0.40), and (0.75, 0.60)
- any rotation used can only be in increments of 15 degrees (except between keyframes)
got some plans for my next video
put far too much effort into this one, but it is what it is. least i got to try some new techniques
round 1 for @system128
round 2: youtube.com/watch?v=3t3TtaCsiwY
unfortunately not an april fools vid lol
very happy with this, serves are usually really difficult for me, but i think i've done a good job laying down a fairly unique concept for our match.- also got the opportunity to rework a few scrapped projects into this round, too- such as that Modern Cartoons channel, which was going to be a serve of its own at some point
anyway; this is gonna be an awesome match!! i cannot wait to see what unfolds
thanks to @arch4ngel for the eccojam briefly seen at 5:31
the track at the end is a piece by myself, if i finish it i'll release it
another original from myself, and the first one that's not a module.
i do have plans in this area though, expect to see some more music uploads later down the line
feel free to use this where ever you want- crediting would be nice, but is optional- it'd be interesting to find where this ends up though
i do not have a bandcamp or (recently updated) soundcloud; i don't think its worthwhile yet, but when i do start those accounts ill put those links here.

next round's wildcards:
- for every effect applied, you must also add a deform filter
- the volume must not exceed -12db.
- the round must contain itself
- all video layers must be in source alpha 3D, and either be rotated to some degree or animated
excuse the inactivity, my irl situation is hindering my access to my desktop- hopefully i can make a strong comeback for 2023
this round's restrictions:
- the round must have references to fish
- final product must be rotated 360 degrees and mirrored
- audio must be desynced
next round's wildcards:
- your round must contain atleast 240 characters of text

round 4, @nubman41 + @AngryLuigi23 vs. infinitysnapz + @EdotJdotOriginal
(2023 update; i do not endorse the stuff ej has said; please do not drag me into your arguments)
as it seems, buzz lightyear is a serial craigslist scammer across the us and europe- here is a list of his previous victims:
Mobile Mechanic, Computer Diagnostics, Auto Electric (Bakersfield)
buzz did not pay for these services
Independent Property Inspector - Immediate Openings (Pittsburg and surrounding)
buzz was charged with 3 cases of wire fraud and 1 case of mail fraud
15x STAMP ALBUMS- COLLECTION BUNDLE JOB LOT - £150 (Essex)
buzz stole these collectible stamps and used them in posting various illicit substances
Wanted Old HOT WHEELS & AFX SLOT CARS & TRACKS 1960's-1980's
buzz provided the collector with counterfeit "Speed Wheels" items
Angleška slovnica: e-knjiga, Engleska slovnica: e-knjiga
fun fact: buzz lightyear was born and raised in slovenia. he pirated this e-book though.
lightyear is still at large. who knows if he'll ever be caught.

this round's restrictions:
- add any source from krustarchive and put a difference blend over it
- edit this round normally, but pre-render it, flip the pre-render horizontally and put a screen blend on top of that pre-render
- the final product should have a default chorus audio effect, modifying the chorus effect is optional
next round's wildcards:
- the round must have a missing texture (i.e. purple and black checkerboard) present in every frame
-every 5th frame must be scrambled
-the round must have a border (feel free to do whatever with it)
-add a reference to the number 50
uhh, prepare for potential boards of canada and radiohead circlejerks i guess, lol.
for this round, i went for a more minimalistic approach, aiming to build up towards whatever round 10's gonna be.. most of this was done in the space of 1 day, as a quick one before DC4 set 2... i was able to complete this so quick, mainly due to the fact that i could fill in the gaps with part of a scrapped serve here.
weird 1990s pseudoscience and televangelists are an interesting rabbithole. could be an interesting turn for this match. (wink wink nudge nudge)

today, i felt the musical itch to go off and create a song. at first i messed around haplessly... but then i discovered a load of unfinished old modules just laying about.
one of them was this module here.. dated january 20th 2021, and apparently inspired by the c64 track 'think twice iii'. i finished it off earlier today and i'm reasonably happy with the result (still some rough edges ofc). i think it makes up for my auditory assault that was my first attempt (youtube.com/watch?v=abRIuZ0ccrE)
if this keeps up i may actually start to get somewhere. i've got plans
module download link will come later

WORDS (inf)
i believe this is my first complete match in 3 years, probably more. really happy with how this turned out, as it turns out me and ej work really well as a team, and i probably couldn't of done this without the assistance.
going into this tournament, i had some second thoughts, but i'm glad i pushed those aside, or else we wouldn't have been able to deliver this video.. but now that fear is generally less of a problem, maybe i'll start joining future tournaments and the likes. anyway though, i don't have that much more to write so uhh...
WORDS (e.j.)
This is my first big foray into YTP Tennis, alongside my match against cashlost. I gotta say I'm really enjoying the general cadence of working on music and working on visual messery like this. I have done most of my YTP Tennis work on Missadaxio with a few failed attempts at rounds here and there. I appreciate the dumb shit me and inf did for this round alongside all the cool effects and shit... lol yeah... even if we end up losing to the other team, they put up some great rounds you should check out in response to our rounds. Cheers to them and the rest of the Double Cup crew of people. I can't wait to see the next rounds in the other sets! ^^
I hope you enjoy this round as much as we did creating it. (with the exception of that one day my brother was in my room lol)
also shoutout YouTube for taking down my krust playlist lol

ive been meaning to start a new 1v1 for quite some time. this serve has been on the back burner for a while, and has gone thru alot of different phases. either way, i'm happy with the result. i think more people should use chris morris as a source
(+ bonus audio tennis)
very happy with this again. apologies for the delay though

first tournament i've ever paticipated in, lol. this oughtta be interesting
i went for a simplistic style to complement round one, i intended to make this seem more "krust", but i didn't want it to seem too forced, so i went with simple non-obtrusive degradations instead
so, i wanted to emulate an older style of tennis here to match the 2011-2014 time period the majority of this match took place in... and for once, i'm very pleased with what i've accomplished, i may experiment more with this style in the future. the reverb abuse is 100% intentional btw
