Mine is 13' wide, but you could easily build it anywhere from 3' - 20' wide or more. Simply by adding or subtracting components.You also can just as easily make the base with drawers as I did or with shelving & cabinet doors, like I did the uppers. You will also see how to build a rigid semi-torsion box style top, in which to embed your miter saw. Any of which will make a perfectly functional Extreme Miter Station.This is a 13' long x 7' tall miter station containing sixteen dovetailed drawers, in four base cabinets, a bank of six upper cabinets, and a bunch of storage shelving cubby holes in the middle.The bodies of the cabinets are mostly Baltic birch plywood. the drawer fronts are from leftover pieces of walnut plywood that I had from a kitchen job. And the sides are skinned with 1/4" cherry plywood.I used architect's scale triangular aluminum rulers for the drawer pulls. I drilled and tapped them just for this project. And the upper cabinet handles are actually 3" c-clamps.My old miter station had a 12" DeWalt sliding compound miter saw, that used up too much space in my shop. The dual bars that the miter head slid on forced me to keep the saw 11" further from the shop wall than I wanted.After researching, I found the Bosch Glide 12" dual Bevel miter saw that could be placed practically against the wall of the shop. Because of that, I would be able to gain almost a foot of space in my shop. That's quite a bit when the shop isn't as big as I'd like.Plans are available on my website! A few months ago, we made a push stick to use with our table saw. We wanted something that was practical but that also looked beautiful. We believe that tools should be functional and attractive at the same time, and so we used Tiger Maple and Bolivian Rosewood. With use the table saw blade has slowly cut into to the bottom of the push stick. This is expected and it’s what makes this such a handy tool. We thought about building our Extreme Crosscut Table Saw Sled but realized that it could use a few improvements. Don’t get me wrong, it is an excellent table saw sled and is a very popular tool. However, one issue we have had with it, is its weight. It is just too heavy. So, we decided to design a new sled that would function just as well as the old one but would also be HALF THE WEIGHT! We liked that we could switch between thin kerf and dado blades without having to build a whole new sled, but rather than having to remove and replace the zero clearance insert every time we change blades, we designed it to move them to accommodate the blade thickness. We also thought about the different sleds we use and incorporated some of those uses into this sled. So, instead of having a large and cumbersome sled just for making picture frames, this sled has an attachment to make picture frames perfectly. And, instead of a separate sled for cutting accurate angles we have incorporated an attachment that will do the same thing. The movable zero clearance inserts can also be moved to allow the blade to be tilted to cut bevels. And, it accommodates both left and right tilting saws. They had been looking at antique sleigh beds made from oak, and they wanted one, but the only sizes to be found were for double size beds, and she wanted one in queen size.She was an artist and sketched out what she was looking for, and that’s what we started with. I thought that this would be an excellent project video. It’s a beautiful bed that works well with many styles today, and I thought the rest of our viewers might appreciate it too.We designed a detailed set of plans for it to match the specifications of a modern day queen sized bed. And went from there. It was a fun project and it incorporated a lot of different woodworking techniques to get the project accomplished. The bed starts with making giant 4” and 5” round dowels that are more than five feet long. There are no complicated jigs to accomplish it, and that part is actually quite easy. Then there is some pattern template cutting to get the legs to be identical to one another. And of course no bed would be complete without mortise & tenon joinery.In addition to that a bed needs to come apart for transport, and go back together again. So, it needs to be something that can be done easily. But since we overbuild everything here, we came up with an interesting solution to bolt this bed together, so that the fastening system will last for many generations. I’d like to share with you one of our favorites. This is a squirrel feeder with a lifting lid mechanism. It works by the squirrel standing on it to access the peanuts. It is also a very easy project to build requiring only a single 6” wide cedar fence picket. So it becomes a $2.00 project. And it’s a great project to get children involved with, especially because it is such a quick build. I hope you enjoy it. I should note. That the original concept of a lifting lid isn’t mine, I’ve seen it for a great many years by a number of people. I decided to use all exotic lumber for the build because this was something that I wanted to keep forever, and really cherish. Also, exotics were also very hard and durable. The perfect wood for a vise. Although, it could just as easily be built out of a domestic hardwood such as oak or cherry and still be very durable.I needed to get only a small board of African Padauk, and one of Purpleheart. The rest of the exotic pieces I picked up either from Rockler or Woodcraft in their turning blank section. And since I always like to have a bunch of turning blank pieces around, I had all that I needed already in my shop.I spent a while perfecting the design for absolute maximum strength and ease of building. If you decide you need to build one too, you can pick up a set of plans from my website. They are extremely detailed 3D plans, and you can easily build this vise from them.If you went out and purchased all of the most expensive exotics for your build, it would cost about $250.00 - $300.00. That’s a whole lot less than the price of a bench vise with 12” jaws. Even if it is a cheap vise. So, not only can you save money, you can have the pride of doing it yourself. If you used something like oak, you can do this build for maybe $25 - $35, and a lot of the pieces, you probably have sitting in your scrap pile, since many of them are small.I hope you give it a try. It was without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable builds that I have done. It has extraordinary strength and density. But it is known for it’s unique organic chemistry and the oxidation reactions that it undergoes to become a deep royal purple color.Nearly every woodworker is familiar with the species, but not everyone knows how to get the most purple out of it you can and how to keep it purple forever. One that was slightly longer than normal.I Frequently rip shorter lengths of wood in the 2 – 3 feet range, and I am always wanting a push stick that can apply more downward force on the end of wood that is farther from me. A longer push stick will really help with this. I also wanted a push stick that is wider then the standard ¾” size I see everywhere. When I try to apply forward downward force on a narrow push stick, it will sometimes wobble side to side, which isn’t safe. Finally, I wanted a catch or hook piece on the end that I can replace after it gets a bunch of cuts through it from going over the blade.This push stick met all of these requirements, and I got to build it out of one of my favorite exotics, Morado. Also called Bolivian Rosewood. It is a quick and easy project that only takes a couple of hours. On the surface it seems like an easy task, but it’s not as simple as all that. There must be a guide fence of some sort for the router to ride along, and a stop at either end. Also, it’s important that these are the exact same all the way around the cutting board so that the corners of the groove line up just right.It’s possible to create a one-off jig, just by screwing some pieces to a surface to accomplish this. But, what if you make lots of cutting boards to sell at craft fairs? Or you make several as gifts, and what if they are all different sizes?We tried to answer that with this jig. It’s a pretty simple project. And it will allow you to quickly readjust to a new cutting board size in a few seconds, and then cut a perfect groove in about a minute.This project is for all of you who asked us to help come up with a solution. The total project is a combination of many other youtubers’ work that we have seen and a bit of our own engineering thrown in. Try the Joker, or even Superman.You can either resaw some shop scrap down to thinner boards and then plane it to 1/4" or 1/8". Or, you can buy thin stock from your local hardwood dealer. 77 - The Secret to Making PERFECT Wooden Threads Kings Fine Woodworking 2023-03-19 | The Secret to Making PERFECT Wooden Screw ThreadsHow cool is it to make your own All wood deep reach c-clamps? What about making your own Wooden Vise Screw? Or even giant scale nuts and bolts made out of all wood?You can do that, and countless other projects with wooden threads, but if you have ever tried to cut them, you may have found out that the threads tend to tear out and the cutter shreds the wood while cutting. I’ll show you the method that I use to get perfect wooden threads of any size. And I’ll be doing it in giant scale. The reason is to show you that it can be done if everything is properly prepped. Usually the bigger the thread, the worse the tear-out. And, that is because the threading tool, whether it be the tap or the die, must cut larger and deeper amounts at once. There are jigs that can be made to do this but nothing works as good as a dedicated wood threading kit. I like the ones from Woodcraft, and Beall and Dieter Schmidt all equally well. The truth is, that the wood prep is the most important aspect. Video #77 - The Secret to Making PERFECT Wooden Threads Kings Fine Woodworking 2023-03-19 | The Secret to Making PERFECT Wooden Screw ThreadsHow cool is it to make your own All wood deep reach c-clamps? What about making your own Wooden Vise Screw? Or even giant scale nuts and bolts made out of all wood?You can do that, and countless other projects with wooden threads, but if you have ever tried to cut them, you may have found out that the threads tend to tear out and the cutter shreds the wood while cutting. I’ll show you the method that I use to get perfect wooden threads of any size. And I’ll be doing it in giant scale. The reason is to show you that it can be done if everything is properly prepped. Usually the bigger the thread, the worse the tear-out. And, that is because the threading tool, whether it be the tap or the die, must cut larger and deeper amounts at once. There are jigs that can be made to do this but nothing works as good as a dedicated wood threading kit. I like the ones from Woodcraft, and Beall and Dieter Schmidt all equally well. The truth is, that the wood prep is the most important aspect.
