the smell of blood, it is everywhere. it lies in the wind and the morning air, carried by the clang of steel and cries of the dying, from the warring clans to the rivers of the bear hunters. it clings to the mountainsides and seeps into the stone.
the winter wood. the wolf hills. the witch mountains. this land has many names, all after something that has killed, and killed it has many.
no one dares cross it without the mark of a witch upon their face, and even with it, only the desperate and the wild.
and the dead.

long time no see. life has been crazy busy but i did want to get back into vidding, so the premise was this: make a crossover for pride. easy enough, right? i've done it before. except apparently it wasn't, and after a month or so of planning, being ready to start, my inspiration for that project vanished and i decided to go with what i'd thought of in the beginning instead: all the gays from my current wip. because pride is never over on this channel.

now, it became more of an aesthetic and hardly any shipping (tho we do have some ships...heh!), but i think it did get me back into vidding. i hope. we'll see.

›› what is this about?

well. uh. vibes?
this isn't chronological At All; not even properly canon, because, well, *footage*. but you've got some of the main characters of the series. and yes, the characters shown are all queer. (and they do have names, i'm just not sharing.)

› the world: a maritime colonial empire made up of a thousand islands; a navy with flying ships, battling pirates; alchemy, only the beginning of the magic at the eager learner's fingertips. a fight for self-determination and freedom. a story about loyalty, liberation, discovery, and questioning authority.

at the beginning of the story:

› the sailor [clara paget], central character – raised in poverty, now a cadet in the navy; she thinks this is the only way she can ever escape the dirt. but she can't close her eyes to the injustice and betrayals forever, and her heart takes over her ambition. dark deeds for a good cause are better than dark deeds in the service of a blood-soaked empire. over time, it's yo-ho a pirate's life for her. bit of a himbo with lots of self worth issues.

› the alchemist [karla crome] – alchemist for the navy (for now) but longs to explore. sheds the chains of the empire's habits and prejudices and delves deeper into the science, the magic, the gory mysticism that is at the core of the world. flirty, self-sacrificial, focussed.

› the pirate [toby stephens] – captain of a pirate crew, infamous and feared; rages against the empire, takes with hands and claws and teeth. loves with his whole heart but can't commit, so when he loses his poet through his own fault, that same heart is set afire with violence. intense, scary, shakespearean.

› the revolutionary [jessie mei li] – alchemist by name, magician by trade, seeks to burn down the empire. leads the alchemist on darker roads and opens doorways to what lies beyond. has no regard for their own safety.

› the poet [santiago cabrera] – lost. noble son of a navy general, heart of a poet and romantic. runs away on a pirate ship as a teen, hired by the pirate. it goes well, until it doesn't.

› the youngling [orlando bloom] – ends up on a pirate ship, falls for his captain. gets away, walks a different path, but the sea and the pirate keep calling.

› the prisoner [sam heughan] – fights for freedom and worker rights. idealist with very enthusiastic fists. is thrown into the furthest corner of hell for it, but he still has friends looking for him.

› the captain [ian mcshane] – navy captain of the sailor's and the alchemist's ship. a dick.

...these are the mains and *some* of the more important characters. the others didn't fit for some reasons or another.

›› how is this queer, why is it for pride? – important question! it's sailor x alchemist endgame, sailor x poet past, pirate x poet past, pirate x youngling crush/unrequited/maybe, and as i said, everyone in here is queer

we're back in westeros and it's inc*st time, baby ♥️ how could i not love these two? i know it's all fan theories at this point but they just make sense, plus 1) helaena deserves better and 2) she's never done anything wrong ever. and of course, i had to use phia's scenes from tlk.

hotd was amazing. i was so cautious about getting into this show bc got disappointed me so much in the end, but it's won me over - with all its faults, it's still brilliant, all i wanted and more. rhaenyra and alicent hold my heart, individually and together, and you can expect to see much more of them on this channel in the future. the cast is fire. the dragons! oh the dragons! can't wait to see the tragedy unfold on screen, it's gonna rip out my soul.

it's been a century since the vidders united biddings but here this is, finally. lea was so infinitely kind to request not one but Two canon videos from me, which still blows my mind. thank you. your wishlist was extraordinary and choosing something from it was tough - it had to be black sails though, right? the underrated gem that it is.

now, is this canon? like 99%. i remain convinced that this was so much more than rivalry, or friendship, or even enmity. they both met their match in one another and it was the world that wedged itself between them. would they have become lovers one day? who knows. do i believe flint definitely loved silver? yes. did he know himself? who knows.

vidders united is a project where vidders could offer up something (colourings, videos, scene packs...) in exchange for a donation to the BLM movement/a charity related to BLM. the whole project raised over $12,000 for the cause !

it's been a hot minute and in the meantime, kim's birthday came and went, and ofc i was late for it but here we are!
kim, you are an eternal source of warmth and joy and i am so honoured and grateful to call you my friend ❤ since you've been torturingTM my poor cold feelings with these two and this universe, i thought i'd return the favour (and in the meantime torture myself by thinking more about them...the babies, i will never cope).

witches, assassins, opposing covens...the real goodness! ☆
this video focusses on lucy (olivia cooke) and ford (dylan o'brien). they're childhood friends from the same coven, and if their coven (like the rival one) had partners in their work, they would have been each other's. but tragedy strikes when they're young - lucy is caught up in the fallout when a kid from the rival coven has a magical outburst when his parents are murdered. after this, she suffers from magical and health issues and is therefore kept out of the family's/clan's business. meanwhile, ford and her brother ryan (brenton thwaites) go on to become solitary assassins. in kim's words: "Only, their coven doesn't believe in strong emotional attachments, they are a weakness and could get you killed and Ford has to try to reconcile his own feelings with what he (and Lucy) have been taught to believe their whole lives." (THE GOODNESS!)

at one point, lucy meets a young man and strikes up a secret romance with him – kian (thomas mcdonell). later they both find out that they're from rival clans and that he was the one who caused her health problems. this leads to a whole load of fuckery between the families.
for a variety of reasons, lucy and kian's romance ends, but they stay friends. lucy and ford, however...kim has once described them as 'the platonic scaetari' and never has there been a greater clownface emoji. as fate wills it, they end up together.

quite simple and i hope you can follow it in the video. a brief summary:

› past: king hrothgar has his wife amena, a witch, killed and replaces her with isolde ; his eldest child morgan hates him for it ; he has two children with isolde – ragnar and thusnelda
› as an adult, morgan returns to her father to claim her right to the throne as his eldest child but is refused – hrothgar names ragnar his successor instead, confirmed by his seer iseult.
› morgan and her husband rollo plot to kill the king; rollo murders him in an attack.
› ragnar is joined by his cousin tormund, the shieldmaiden ania, and others, and wants to be a good leader. morgan plots.
› tormund confronts rollo over rumours that he was the one behind the king's death. ragnar listens. lagertha has suspicions that it's actually morgan's doing. conflict!
› morgan reveals her true colours. conflict!
› ragnar gathers an army to avenge his father. they fight rollo, morgan, and elvina. iseult is captured. ragnar kills rollo in battle.
› morgan murders ragnar. elvina isn't happy. everyone mourns.
› lagertha and thusnelda want to avenge ragnar's death and establish lagertha's rule as ragnar's successor. they gather their forces and go to war against morgan. tormund is captured. lagertha, thusnelda, and ania win the battle.
› in a surprise attack, ania takes morgan's seat, aided by iseult from the inside. lagertha is welcomed joyfully.
› lagertha spares morgan, who continues to exist in misery. ania frees tormund. iseult and thusnelda reunite. lagertha still mourns ragnar. my heart is broken.

Beatrice, a young noble lady who is also a suffragette is sent away by her family from England to America where her elder brother Henry lives because her family wants to keep her away the feminist movement. In New York, she meets the other women who share the same thoughts with her. After she comes to the city, Beatrice discovers someone kills the women who are part of this movement and nobody is safe.
A policeman, Giuliano meets Beatrice while he tries to solve this case. Beatrice joins Guiuliano in this case after her close friend was killed.

›› who are they? what am i seeing?

frerin - as we know, brother of thorin and dís, [died in canon but is very alive here]. at some point after the dwarves of erebor are forced to leave their home, he leaves his family to sort himself out, set his mind straight, deal with the past, explore new lands. on his travels he meets a woman who simply takes his breath away: gaurdîs, a dúnadan who supports her sister gilraen in the leadership of their people. they romance one another, adore each other; after a while, though, he has to go back to his family. after he leaves, gaurdîs finds out that she is with child. she names their son alswinn. some years go by, and when frerin returns to his love, he also meets his surprise child - and gaurdîs asks him to take the boy with him for a while for the winter will be harsh and he will be safer with the dwarves.
basically, family wholesomeness ensues.

it was kim's birthday yesterday – a cause for celebration! and an excellent excuse to vid her inspiring characters, enchanting worlds and beautiful stories.
kim, i've said what i can say - i hope this year will be kind to you and that you enjoy this little unworthy tribute to your breathtaking 'trees' universe. it's magic.

›› what is this?
woodlands, magic, star-crossed lovers, a generations-old feud...this world has it all. in my own crude words: it all starts with amaryllis (arbor clan), finch (avem clan), and hawthorn (arbor clan). they grow up together, but amaryllis and finch's love is cut short when hawthorn takes the throne, betrays their friendship and marries amaryllis. over long years of marriage, they have two sons. love does not die, however – hawthorn sends finch away to die in battle while amaryllis is pregnant with a daughter, cherry. she dies giving birth to the child of her doomed love. hawthorn claims and raises cherry as his own, but when time comes for her take the throne (as her brothers both can't for different reasons) and marry, her parents' relationship continues to haunt her reign.
generations later, the clans are on the brink of peace as willow (arbor clan) and peregrine (avem clan) fall in love in and wish to marry. but tragedy befalls the woods once more...
this is more of an aesthetic take and ~vibes than actual plot but i hope it makes some sort of emotional sense at least.

on december 31, 2020, i reached 3000 subscribers! :D it wasn't something i expected – though i did wonder at some point whether it would still happen in 2020 – but i won't lie, it was exciting to see it happen on the last day of the year.
THANK YOU. thank you all so very much for subscribing, for supporting my channel, leaving all the lovely comments (although i am so bad at replying, i am forever grateful!), and following me through the niche idiocy that i keep maneuvering myself into, lol.

as a small special, i would like to offer a multicrossover - one of your choice!
my idea was that you'd vote for an aesthetic (more on that below), and i will make an interconnected multicrossover within that. couples, families, enemies, plot, i hope there will be something for everyone!

› what do i mean by aesthetic?

you might also say era or type. i will choose fandoms that fit and create a story that is more or less in tune with the general...vibe of it. for example -

i didn't think i'd ever make a video like this, but here we are! theblindchick requested a vidlet about these two ladies, and i was delighted to oblige. i adore downton abbey and these two (especially the dowager countess, maggie smith's character) are such sources of joy when watching it - plus their friendship develops so beautifully throughout the seasons, without ever truly departing from what made them rivals in the beginning.

i now finally understand the appeal of canon editing. that is all.
lea in her neverending loveliness has pledged for not one, but two! canon videos from me and her ideas? her music taste? fire. i bow down.
so this is the first one of the two. it was the greatest joy to make, and i hope that you like this.

a few notes - did i select scenes for every single couple? yes i did. did i then exclude half of them because i only had so much time? ...yes T_T.
first to go were the masters, because honestly - they might be wholesome at times, but they're still horrible people lol. barca/pietros and varro/aurelia had to go next, because there was so little footage of them, and spartacus/laeta, too, since it was never ~love~ for them, as they say themselves - otherwise the video would have become too unfocused.
(also yes i know gannicus/melitta and kore/marcus are controversial, let me live.)

but a choice had to be made, and who else could it be than elle, who brought this wonderful project to life - and also celebrated her birthday just about a month ago!

the prompt for today is "OTP". it feels sacrilegious to choose just one (yes i'm the type of writer who ships her own couples...what's the point otherwise? :D), but the results of a little poll tied ellyrei/rikash and eirik/vreia in first place for the prompt "fan favourites" (Oct 2nd), and I didn't finish this in time, so...OTP it is :D (a vid for eirik/vreia will come this month as well!)

›› story (??):

This goes a bit further than most mep parts & videos i've made with them so far. The focus is very much on their relationship rather than the plot this time. (also not chronological)
Ellyrei comes to court as Rikash's healer, but their relationship develops beyond that very quickly, both of them falling in love. There are several obstacles in their way, however – one being that he is arranged to marry (luckily, his wife could not care any less since she is very determinedly not interested in men). Another, their difference in social status. Another – they're both oblivious idiots in denial.
And last but not least: she's a member of a band of revolutionaries hellbent on taking down Rikash's family and bringing back magic and, most importantly, the dragons of old. When their webs of secrets intertwine, catastrophe is close at hand.
Without going into too much detail – at the end of book one, ...stuff... goes down. It bad. As a result, Ellyrei is stuck in the stone fortress that was Rikash's home, doing her best to keep the country alive (quite literally, but explaining the whole magic system would be too much XD) and resorting to means she never should she'd have to, never even thought possible. Meanwhile, Rikash ends up heavily wounded, in exile, lord in name only. Along with the surviving rest of his court, he seeks refuge in the Empress's capital, after years of withstanding Her and his elder sister's summons to join the court (and potentially become one of the Empress' noble lovers).
The distance doesn't make things easier, neither do their opposing positions. Unfortunately, neither does it have an effect on their feelings for one another.

elly requested a vidlet, and one of the themes she proposed was the medieval romance of roswall & lillian with this fancast & song - which...is such a genius combination, serious galaxy brain - and i tried my best with it. reading about these two made me really fall in love with them – the combination of fairytale/folklore motifs and great romance with, pardon me, the best fucking tropes.

because of, well, footage, and also the time constraint of a vidlet, i took an approach that diverges slightly from the story. instead of portraying the entire plot (see below), i picked out the bit where those two would meet, and expanded on it. i planned on including a bit more of a fairytale-like aesthetic, hence the couple of clips in the beginning, but, uh. let's say i needed every second for the actual story :'D

› the story (summarised very crudely) :

When Roswall, a prince, is exiled by his father, the steward accompanying him betrays and robs him, taking his identity. Roswall, penniless and alone, finds himself in another kingdom, where he is housed and schooled by kind people. He distinguishes himself and is taken into the King's services, where he meets the princess – Lillian. They fall in love.
Things aren't so easy, though, since Lillian is engaged to another prince, who is revealed to be the steward. A tournament is held in honour of her approaching marriage and Roswall enters anonymously. Knights from his own kingdom identify the steward as a liar and announce that Roswall is their King's true son. (There's a whole thing about them aiding him before the tournament, but that just didn't fit.)
Roswall tells the King his story, and they all live happily ever after. Except for the steward. He dead.

(i offered several videos, a collab, and colourings. frankly, i am still absolutely floored that not only did someone take the opportunity at all, but every opportunity i offered to request a vid/let was taken. every single one. and there was a small bidding race in the last hour of the project. i'm?? thank you, everyone.
thankfully, the deadline was extended to november 30, which frankly just saved my life. but yeah - still a lot of videos to come, so stay tuned!)

miss anne brown has led a boring but content life so far – after a quiet youth in the countryside, she was employed by lady hargrove, a widow of almost unimaginable riches, to entertain and provide company. in her employ, anne meets miss ann green, governess to the young shaw offspring. they become fast friends and stand by each other's side through the silly madness of aristocrats.

anne doesn't expect him to marry her, given their great difference in social standing, but their turbulent affair brings unexpected heartache as they begin to truly care for one another. isolated in their own turbulent thoughts, both contemplate marriage, believing it impossible, fearing a loss of freedom, and besides, these stupid feelings are quite the nuisance. with some interference from friends and family (especially ann, sarcastic and supportive as ever, and aidan's brother matthew, who is quite sceptical at first but a big soft romantic at heart), the storm is calmed.

i hope you're all doing well in this exceptional situation. i've lost track of time, as witnessed by this video, which has been sitting on my laptop since the day after our 24h challenge. first i wanted to do the oc prompt but couldn't vid that day at all, then i went for the mythology prompt on sunday but couldn't finish; still, the "mythology" idea influenced the direction this video went.

eirik and vreia are part of a series of stories surrounding the fate of a family through the generations. as the centuries pass, their story becomes legend.
son of a dead king, daughter of the woods. after his father’s sacrifice ended a devastating war against the albs – near-immortal beings torn between the gods and the mortal realms, elf-like in their terrible beauty – eirik has been king in name since before his birth. the land, the people are scarred and have barely begun to heal. daughter of a human and an alb, vreia grew up far away from humans, protected from their wrath. one day, she happens upon a young king in the woods, drawing him into her world. vreia and eirik fall irrevocably in love, but when she goes with him to his longhall to become his bride, her safe world is shattered. he forsakes his crown to marry her, as people fear and despise her for her nonhuman ancestry. as his reigning mother falls ill and war begins to brew on the horizon, eirik realises it is not as easy as it first seemed to give up his lands – and they find themselves once again caught between the woods and the throne.

(yes all of this is its own story and it wasn't technically necessary to tell it here but bear with me. also i made a mep part before with a convenient travis fimmel cast, but it felt...weird here lol. plus jakob actually fits him better.)

› eirik's mother (young: charlotte riley) – was left raising her royal toddler after halvar's death, and ruling the land in his stead. she is the one who keeps all together despite her son's indiscretion, but she falls ill at just the wrong time. (i would have liked to include her more but i just can't seem to find a good cast for an older version of her.)

› a long-lived bard (essie davis) and her son (john bradley-west), who take vreia in.
› the skald who, at that time, goes by ida (imogen poots) – the character the reader would follow through the generations. long before this, she was a fighting companion of the ancient queen and made a vow to her to protect this family. while not always true to her promise, she has been a part of this family's story from the very start. raising halvar on her stories and then returning one last time to him before calamity struck, she played a central role in his ending the war. she will be in and out of this family's life for generations to come.

second day of our challenge, second video! am i insane? possibly a little. this was made for the #viddingdangerously 24 vidding challenge over at @darkstarstudios1556, meaning we make a whole video in 24 hours!
first i flip-flopped between another idea (for the siblings prompt) and no inspiration at all, until i trashed everything and decided to reuse and extend that mep part i made for dss a while ago, using the instrumental song prompt. because…well this song came on and i thought, why the hell not?
(granted, this would have worked great with the genderswap prompt tomorrow, but i played myself and put genderswap on the same day as original characters.)

once again, this is everything but coherent. just some aesthetic for what i think would be a great fem!holmes and fem!watson combination. given the lack of fitting footage, i focussed more on their relationship and struggles with society than their detective work.

our studio is hosting another 24h vidding challenge today and the next couple of days, and i’ve decided to participate! today’s prompts included 'enemies to lovers‘ and while i took my liberties with the details, it was my starting point. beyond that it was just "well, let’s combine two of my favourite characters on tv right now whose scenes i know well enough to vid them in one day“.
what you can expect from this: two beautiful faces.
what you shouldn't expect: a coherent plot or any sort of chronological order.

the basic idea: amena is cintran royalty, one or two generations before calanthe. born during the ecplipse, she is one of the princesses stregobor hunts down. she survives his horrific experiments, but remains his prisoner until an encounter with geralt sets her free. she’s a powerful witch, so calanthe turns her away despite knowing what she went through and despite them being family. malice drives her – she swears to kill stregobor and curses calanthe. over the years, however, she turns away from that path, and her relationship with geralt develops into something genuine. shortly before the attack on cintra, they are imprisoned there. when nilfgaard destroys the city and she joins the mages in the battle of sodden hill, she has to wonder whether it was her curse that brought this destruction upon her home.
(please don’t kill me over timelines, i followed the coward’s path of convenience.)

(the colours of the manips matched up so nicely, adding this colouring made my heart bleed. but it adds such a wonderful atmosphere, i couldn’t resist.)

hello everyone.
i struggled for a while whether i should upload this or not. (read: i made this two months ago.)
but in the end, i guess my love for this character won out. the project was initially inspired by the song, but the final push came from @Wintersmith. suggesting flo (thank you!!).

we don't know much about gilraen. she married a much older arathorn in her early twenties and within a few years gave birth to aragorn and lost her husband; brought aragorn to rivendell and raised him there, but returned to their people to lead them. she died at age 100, quite young for a dúnedain - only a few years before aragorn was crowned king of gondor.
i never realised that the words elrond says to aragorn in the tent scene in rotk were his mother's last words to her son until i read up on gilraen, and now i want to cry?

(ben robson as a younger aragorn was 100% inspired by the red shirt that is just..The Same as viggo's.)

their story, in my own short unworthy words: heneos (eric bana) is king, married to amarande (eleanor tomlinson). however, he falls in love with arcedio (jack lowden), which complicates his relationship with his wife and queen and endangers his position as king.
(i added a little bit of a friendship/connection between amarande and arcedio as well since i imagine they would have a complicated relationship, too.)

...i don't know where this came from. pent-up inspiration? i made a mep part for the lovely maud (theladyofisell) and made more manips than i needed, opened a random song in my library and somehow it was perfect. continued to make this in two days.
