Fortunately, there is a ghost block inside the block 36 when you first create it, however without carpet client the game will delete the ghost block you're placing the item frame on and an additional ghost block in front of it, which is why you can't get double sided item frames with a vanilla client. If anyone can figure out a way to do it with a vanilla client, I'd love to know.

The only thing that changed regarding endstone farms between 1.12 and 1.13 was Mojang fixing end crystal fire removing blocks in the end dimension, so this video does not cover everything about endstone farms. If someone wanted to, they could theoretically design a cycling setup that would make a 1.13 farm just as fast as 1.12. Check the pinned comment for information about 1.14+ endstone farms.

Rates: ~519,000 basalt/h ~576 items/tnt
The farm runs at ~36 mspt on my server. For reference, ilmango's 270k basalt/h 240 items/tnt farm runs at ~11 mspt on it under the same conditions. Like his, if the basalt generators/piston walls were optimized and only triggered if necessary, you could most likely cut the mspt by a third or more.
More Info: My goal with this basalt farm was to make it as fast and tnt efficient as I could within the volume of a single blast chamber, and have it be unbreakable to tnt blast randomness. Unfortunately, to achieve max speed with the current layout, ~20 items are blown up by the next tnt. So if your only concern is tnt efficiency, then you could slow the farm down for an additional ~20 basalt/tnt.
The farm itself is a combination of a few different concepts/designs by multiple people. The main two things that I combined was the blast chamber concept by Mouse and the basalt generators from ilmango's fast and tnt efficient basalt farm. Mouse never made a video on his blast chamber concept, but it has been shown before in my tnt efficient endstone farm video. After doing that, I added the "mega hopper" shown by JL on top of the blast chamber to siphon any elevated items into the middle. After finding the optimal explosion height that would still blow up as many blocks as possible while being at a slightly higher y value to make it less likely to blow up items that are still falling, Rubiks made a sheet to show the height a tnt would be at every gametick after pushing it off a specific y offset. For this blast chamber, the decimal height I needed was ~.970 which could be achieved with a y offset of .325 (boat on a minecart on a rail).
You could use the same blast chamber with cobblestone quite easily or wait until Mouse/someone else designs and releases a single block stream variant of the blast chamber to use it with any block.
Farm Rates (5.5 hour tick warp with hopper counters): ~271,551.14 endstone/h (rounded down to 271,000 in video) ~521.74 tnt used/h ~520.47 endstone/tnt (rounded down to 520 in video)
There is a minor loss rate of endstone due to item wonkiness when being elevated/squashed by blocks, so the true rate of endstone/tnt is a bit higher (endstone/tnt in this case is being calculated by the number of items that get collected by the farm, not the full number of endstone exploded by tnt). You could add more water collection around the blast chamber to negate most of the loss if you wanted to.
The farm can run at maximum (1.0) and minimum (0.0) TNT range with no issues (carpet mod tntRandomRange with optimizedTNT true).

This endstone farm works in 1.12 and on all seeds. Everything must be built exactly like the WDL, and keeping in mind the parameters for anything else. Farm runs at around 10-15 MSPT on a laptop server. Most of the lag comes from the items.
This gateway cycling design can run on a max speed of 19 gameticks/island, and can run on any clock speed above that. We had a net loss of items on any speed faster than the 29 gameticks/island clock we are using in the final design.
