Giannetta was one of the driving forces to bring Steamtown USA to Scranton & was heavily involved in promoting & fundraising for the effort. The song was recorded & produced in late 1982-early 1983 at KMA Recording Studios in Moscow, PA (featuring Lou Cossa & Billy Lormbardi on vocals) & was released in March of 1983 as a 45 RPM 7 inch single to raise money to bring Steamtown USA to Scranton. Steamtown USA ended up selecting Scranton as it's new home & the rest as they say is history.This song has been out of print & unavailable for 42 years.

Steamtown USA: Steam, Steel and Streamliners (Documentary) Nickel Plated Productions 2025-08-09 | In the 1960s, there were many rail preservation organizations across the US. Rail Tours Inc., The Strasburg Railroad, the Cass Scenic Railroad, The Rail City Museum, Michigan's Marquette and Huron Mountain Railroad and many more all had a crack at saving a portion of the nation's railroad heritage. Of all the organizations that had their start in the 1960s, one of the most popular and storied operations was Steamtown USA, a New England-based steam safe haven. Born from the dreams of New England rail enthusiast F. Nelson Blount in the 1930s, Steamtown USA was home to one of the largest private collections of railroad equipment in North America. Blount had ambitious plans for Steamtown, but was unable to see his dreams fulfilled. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, Steamtown continued to experience leadership changes and financial difficulties, eventually ending up 300 miles away in Scranton, PA and bankrupt by the end of the decade. Steamtown was given new life, when it became a National Historic Site and opened its doors in 1995. This documentary covers the seldom told complete story of Steamtown USA, from it's beginnings as a dream in F. Nelson Blount's mind in the 1930s to the Grand Opening in the 1990s. The Southern Steam Program, All Good Things Must Come to an End 1995 Nickel Plated Productions 2024-12-31 | All Good Things Must Come to An End covers the Southern Steam Program over a 13 year period of time. (1981 to 1994.) Several different steam locomotives that ran in the Steam Program are featured including:1. Southern (Chesapeake & Ohio) 27162. Savannah & Atlanta 7503. Nickel Plate Road 5874. Of note, the program includes rare footage of N&W 1218's 1985 move from the Roanoke Transportation Museum to the Steam Shop in Birmingham Alabama.Footage included in this program is a combination of previously unreleased material & material recycled from previously released Trackside Video programs such as Assault on Asheville, Trains To Match The Mountains (1989), The A And The J (1987) & Steamin' in '91 (1991). The video quality of the pre -1987 material is poor, due to being shot on consumer grade VHS camera equipment (which did not have the bandwidth to support full color video & HiFi sound at the time.) & technical issues when the footage was shot, which is the reason why the color & brightness of said material is inconsistent. This program was made by the long defunct Trackside Video, A video company operated from 1987 until 2008 out of Lake Forest, Georgia & has been lost for 29 years. Rahway Valley 15 Steamtown Excursion (1965) Nickel Plated Productions 2024-11-09 | In 1965, Peter Kilham put together a Steamtown U.S.A. '45 Record, released by Droll Yankees Inc. For the record, Kilham recorded audio of Steamtown excursions with Rahway Valley 15 (Steamtown's primary steam locomotive from 1962 to 1964.), along with an interview with Steamtown founder & well known rail preservationist F. Nelson Blount. (the only known surviving audio interview with Nelson.) The interview portion of the record can be heard here: youtu.be/yZh8z9ZsMWwIn this recording, the locomotive is wearing the whistle off of Grand Trunk Western U-1-c 4-8-2 No. 6039. (one of 3 whistles the locomotive wore during this time. The other 2 whistles being a Boston & Maine whistle off of a B&M P Class Pacific & a British peanut whistle.) Rahway Valley 15 operated excursions for Steamtown from 1962 to 1973, when the locomotive was sidelined following blowing a boiler tube. The locomotive ended up as a static display and found it's way to Scranton, PA with the rest of the Steamtown collection in 1984, where it is currently on display at the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA. (likely to never run again.)Despite having this ready to go for almost 2 years, this was shelved in favor of other videos. More videos are on the way.
Tom McComas (My Lionel Train) Tribute Nickel Plated Productions 2024-08-14 | This is a tribute to Tom McComas, a longtime Model Railroad video producer who owned, operated & founded TM Books & Video in 1974. McComas, who was a video producer of films alongside being a writer, producer, & director of commercials & documentaries, got involved in toy trains in 1970 by accident when he was given 3 boxes of toy trains by a client of his Chicago-based production company. In 1971, following a dinner with invited guests, Tom was offered 5000 dollars for his newly acquired collection of toy trains but declined the offer. In 1972, Tom got involved with the Train Collectors Association & shortly afterwards began writing books with Chicago Tribune author James Touhy. Tom's Lionel Collectors Guide books sold very well and finally applied his model train knowledge to the silver screen & created Lionel the Movie in 1976. (the first of many TM Videos to come.) Over the next 4 decades, Tom oversaw the production of hundreds of Model Railroad Videos & Books such as Great Toy Train Layouts of America, Toy Train Revue, Lionel Nation, A Century of Lionel Legendary Trains & the wildly popular I Love Toy Trains series & produced several videos for companies such as Lionel & John Deere (just to name a few.) Tom would hit the big time in 1993, when he was asked to appear on Tom Snyder's CNBC cable show to talk toy trains. (with the show being a massive hit & kept the phone lines busy each time it ran during the holiday season.) Tom would also visit Tom Snyder's Late Late Show in 1995, where he once again talked toy trains with Tom. Tom's usage of footage from the Berkshire Productions shows sparked a fascination with the material and drove me to start the Berkshire Productions Preservation Project in 2020. I had the chance to talk with Tom on the phone in 2021 and although it was brief, I am very glad I had the chance to talk with him. Tom was one of my many inspirations & influences on how I produce my documentaries & music videos. Unfortunately, Tom passed away on August 9th, 2024 at age 86. He leaves a towering legacy in model railroading, influenced many generations of people & remains in the thoughts & minds of millions across the world. Thanks for all the great videos & the happy memories. He will be dearly missed by many. NKP 765, The New River Train (1988) Nickel Plated Productions 2024-03-29 | The New River Train documents the 1988 New River Train with Nickel Plate Road 765. From 1968 until 2018, the Collis P. Huntington Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society sponsored a series of Fall foliage trips through the spectacular New River Gorge of West Virginia. From 1978 until 1994, the New River Train was pulled by several different Steam Locomotives. The first of these Locomotives to run through the New River Gorge was Ex. Reading T1. 2101 (Then painted in a Chessie System paint scheme, it would only operate through the New River Gorge once in 1978 as part of the Chessie Steam Special that ran for 2 seasons over the B&O & C&O from 1977 to 1978), followed by C&O 614 (Which operated a trip over the route in 1980 as part of the Chessie Safety Express), NKP 765 (Which operated these trips for the longest tenure, beginning in 1984 & lasted all the way up to 1993) & finally rounding it out with Milwaukee Road 261 (it was leased by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society for the '94 trips, since 765 was down & due for another overhaul). Since 1994, the trips over the old C&O through the New River Gorge have been powered by Diesels. The New River Train made it's last runs in 2018 & was succeeded by the Autumn Colors Express. NKP 587 Lives! Monticello Railway Museum (1997) Nickel Plated Productions 2024-03-27 | NKP 587 Lives! Monticello Railway Museum documents NKP 587's brief tenure at the Monticello Railway Museum from 1994-1997. In 1994, NKP 587 was due for repairs that ITM was unable to complete at their Noblesville Facility in Forest Park. It was decided to send the engine to the Monticello Railway Museum to address a number of issues that the locomotive had. On August 30th, 1994, 587 Deadheaded to the Monticello Railway Museum. From 1994 til 1997, the locomotive underwent repairs to the tune of 250,000 Dollars. In May of 1997, Following the completion of the repair work, 587 operated several excursions for the Monticello Railway Museum to benefit the Restoration of Southern Railway 401. This is one of 2 videos put together by Arthur Purchase, Charles Daigh & Brian Downing covering 587's time at the Museum. The 1977 Chessie Steam Special with Reading 2101, The B&Os 8,000 Mile Birthday Party 1977 Nickel Plated Productions 2023-11-26 | The B&O's 8,000 Mile Birthday Party is a 1977 Promotional Film produced by Avanti Productions that documents the 1977 Season of the Chessie Steam Special (the 1st of 2 seasons of the Chessie Steam Special, that crisscrossed the Chessie System Railroad to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.) pulled by Reading T1 2101. 2101 Pulled the American Freedom Train of 1975-76 & the Chessie Steam Special of 1977-78. On March 26th, 1979, The 2101 was damaged in a roundhouse fire in Russell, Kentucky & was traded to the B&O Railroad Museum for C&O 614 (which went onto to run excursions in 1980-81, Pulling Freight Trains in January of 1985 & pulling excursions over NJT Trackage in 1996, 1997 & 1998. 614 is now on display at the C&O Railway Heritage Center In Clifton Forge, Virginia.) & 2101 was placed on display at the B&O Museum. 2101 is currently in the process of undergoing a cosmetic restoration, due to be completed by 2026. NKP 765, Berkshire Through The Bluegrass 1982 Nickel Plated Productions 2023-10-24 | Berkshire Through The Bluegrass documents NKP 765 operating excursions for the Southern Railroad In the fall of 1982. 765 was leased to the Southern to fill in for recently restored C&O Kanawha 2716 (which was used extensively by the Southern between 1981 & 1982 until the locomotive was pulled from service, due to firebox problems.) & pulled 22 trips for the Southern Steam Program. Southern 2839 & PRR GG1 4935, The Piedmont And Susquehanna Limiteds Plus 1980 Nickel Plated Productions 2023-08-14 | The Piedmont & Susquehanna Limiteds Plus covers the Piedmont Limited & the Susquehanna Limited, along with rare footage of the Baltimore & Ohio and the Roanoke Transportation Museums.First, we see the Piedmont Limited, which was a Train that ran from Alexandria to Charlottesville, Virginia. Ex-Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson No. 2839 provided the motive power for this round trip.This is followed by the Susquehanna Limited, pulled by Pennsy GG-1 No. 4935 which ran a circular route from Washington to Harrisburg by way of the Susquehanna River Line, East to Philadelphia and finally, South back to the Capital.Both of these trips were run in conjunction with the National Railway Historical Society's "Capitol Limited '79" Convention at Washington, D.C. in 1979.Canadian Pacific 2839 operated in excursion for the Southern Steam Program from 1979 to 1980 & eventually was sidlined (due to it not being strong enough to pull the long excursion trains the Southern threw at her.) Sounds Of NKP 759 (1968) Nickel Plated Productions 2023-07-19 | Sounds Of Nickel Plate 759 is one of many railroad recordings, put together by Alan Botto & released by Semaphore Records in the 1960s & 1970s. This record was put together, in coordination with Ross Rowlands High Iron Company in 1968 & was an official souvenir of the Golden Spike Limited of 1968 & 1969. Select sound recordings from this record were used with Permission from the High Iron Company & Botto on Utah Phillips 1973 Album "Good Though!" The original description of Sounds Of NKP 759 is below:SOUNDS OF NICKEL PLATE 759 Locomotive No. 759 was built in 1944 by the Lima Locomotive Works, of Lima, Ohio, for the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad, more commonly known as the Nickel Plate Road, now merged into the Norfolk and Western Railway. No. 759 is a 2-8-4, S-2 Class, Berkshire type steam locomotive representing a zenith in modern reciprocating engine design. In January 1958, 759 made her last revenue run, and in 1962 was sold to the famous Steamtown U.S A. museum founded by the late F. Nelson Blount at Bellows Falls, Vermont. There she joined more than 50 steam locomotives of various types saved from the scrappers torch to become part of one of the truly outstanding rail museums in the United States. Then, in March of 1968, High Iron Company's president Ross E. Rowland, Jr., approached the other trustees of Steamtown with a proposal to return No. 759 to active mainline service with all revenues after expenses going to a fund to build a new round-house for the museum. Steamtown U.S.A. enthusiastically agreed to this plan, and on June 15, 1968, No. 759 was sent to the Norfolk and Western Conneaut Ohio shops for complete reconditioning. Since then she has carried thousands of happy passengers, many who have never seen a steam locomotive before let alone ride behind one, on High Iron excursions throughout the east. 759 also had the distinction of heading the High Iron-Association of American Railroad's Golden Spike Centennial Limited from New York City to Ogden, Utah and return in May, 1969. 759 has 69 inch drive wheels and was used primarily in freight service on the Nickel Plate. She was frequently clocked pulling 80 car freight trains over the road at speeds of 65 mph In operating condition she weights 401.2 tons and measures 100 feet 8 3/4 inches. The tender capacities are 22 tons of coal and 22,000 gallons of water. TRACK 1 "All Aboard" From the first car behind the locomotive., we hear the engineer signal the start with two blast of the steam chime whistle. The cylinder cocks are opened to assist in starting, and soon the huge locomotive is slowly pulling away from the Lebanon, New Jersey station, which is an excellent example of a typical turn-of-the-century passenger station. It has been restored and now serves as general offices for the High Iron Company. Hampton Hill Standing trackside a few miles from the station, we hear No. 759 assaulting the 1% Hampton Hill grade of the Jersey Central Railroad. This sequence contains such realism that you may jump back when the locomotive thunders past in breathtaking stereo! TRACK 2 Weissport Crossing The ring of automatic signals and the cry of the steam whistle herald the approach of the excursion special. Delighted on-lookers of all ages gather trackside to watch the passing of one of the few operating steam locomotives, each secretly wishing to be one of the lucky passengers riding the train. Highballing Back on-board the train again, 759 is heard in a thrilling mile-a-minute high speed run on the main line. This is reminiscent of days past when 759 rolled those famous fast freights on the Nickel Plate. JunctionApproaching the end of the trip, 759 drifts into the station at slow speed. The sharp rifle sounds heard come from pumps on the locomotive which are steam activated and exhaust out the smoke stack. Produced by A. GTW 3740, Last Breath Of Fire Nickel Plated Productions 2023-03-31 | "Last Breath of Fire" chronicles the passage of the ever-present Mikado into the final days of steam on American railroads. Almost every road had Mikes on their roster, but none lasted as long or worked as hard as the 2-8-2s on the Grand Trunk Western. From the camera of Steve Booth comes this beautiful panorama of steam as it was in the late 50s - close to the end but still surviving. This program is truly worthy of these work-horses of the steam era. Mikes were not especially famous locomotives, perhaps because there were so many of them, but they did the everyday work of the railroads, hauling freight and passengers all over the United States. This program is a tribute to all of them. It was put out as a 45' single by Harmeson in 1984 & was available alongside the other merch created to support the restoration & could've been purchased via mail order for a time. It went out of print many years ago and has become very difficult to find copies of nowadays. I was lucky enough to find a copy in December of 2021, Purchased it & subsequently digitized it very quickly following its arrival. This to my knowledge is the best quality version of this song now available today. It was also featured in a video, produced by the ITM Steam Department called "The Return Of NKP 587, "She's A Survivor" that documented 587's rebuild, test runs & it's 1988 operating season. Snyder was gifted a custom Lionel C&O Streamlined Hudson & Observation car by McComas made by Lionel just for Tom. Following Tom's passing in 2007, said Streamlined Hudson & Observation car was given to McComas as Tom wanted McComas to have it. 2 years prior, Tom had visited Snyder's Cable Show on November 30th, 1993 which is referred to in this appearance. Theres No Stopping Us - Norfolk & Western Song Nickel Plated Productions 2023-01-14 | "There's No Stopping Us" (more commonly known nowadays as Cargo Movin' People) was a song produced by the J. Walter Thompson Company in 1980 for the N&W as part of there "There's No Stopping Us" advertising campaign. It was sung by Mike Webber of Roanoke, VA, with backing vocals provided by Jon & Nancy Carroll (who sang with the Starland Vocal Band). It was originally available to N&W Employees in the form of a Eva-Tone Soundsheet & distributed via the July 15th, 1980 Issue of The Norfolk & Western Employee magazine. Following the merger, the song was used in Marc S. Balkin's Rail's To Roanoke show, produced in 1987 (documenting that year's NRHS Convention, held in Roanoke, Virginia with N&W 611 & 1218). This recording, sourced from an original Eva-Tone Soundsheet is the best quality version now available to my knowledge.
