It's also *almost* the hardest possible run with items, only missing the Haunted Castle, which I couldn't end up visiting here due to the Black Market spawning on the same level.This run wound up being a little silly at parts, especially the 8 minute Jungle level where 2 Shopkeepers stalled me out of a Bomb Box for an unreasonably long time, along with a Jiangshi squatting the Black Market entrance in a precarious spot. Spelunkys Least Likely Challenge: Max No% Hell! Max No% is a category where you have to complete the Worm and Mothership, but you can't use bombs, ropes, or take any damage (and it's also No Gold). This is really unlikely since it requires a means of entering the Mothership with nothing but Landmines and UFOs to assist you, but I wound up getting a pretty easy setup this time. Lumping bookskip on top of it and defeating Hell isn't particularly easy either, and Hell levels (especially Yama) are notorious for randomly wasting resources, forcing gold, or just outright damaging you (especially Yama)! After 11 Years... the HARDEST Spelunky Challenge is Over. (Chain Low% Eggplant) HectiqueAgain 2024-12-01 | --Spelunky HD Chain Low% Eggplant World First* Completion (27:17.086)It's finally over. Chain Low% Eggplant has a long and storied history as a challenge that couldn't ever be completed without essentially getting so insanely lucky that you skip all the difficult and technical steps.Chain Low% Hell requires you to beat Hell without any major skips -- you have to get the Ankh, Hedjet, Sceptre, and Book of the Dead. No Bookskipping, just beating the hard ending with only your starting health and resources.Chain Eggplant% requires you to beat Hell while also striking Yama with an Eggplant. This requires you to have a lot of technical knowledge of strats, needing to be able to carry the Eggplant past the Moai and manage a Hired Hand to make it past 4-1. This run also bans skipping the book, but notably allows getting an Eggplant on 4-2, essentially skipping all the necessary challenges of the run.*The 4-2 Eggplant is the reason this isn't a world first completion -- Spef managed to execute on a 4-2 Eggplant during a Max Chain Low% Hell run 4 years ago, getting the first completion then. I still have a ton of respect for this run, as it requires insane dedication to even get a chance at -- but I wanted to be the first to do it from the very beginning!My attempts stuck to a strict rule to not skip any steps. I exclusively obtained Eggplants on 1-2 and would be forced to complete every technical and challenging step within the run to be able to complete it. It was an absolutely insane grind for a number of reasons...Didn't get the Eggplant for an hour? Missed the Black Market? Couldn't get past the Moai without an Altar or Mammoth? Robot character randomly gets itself killed? Guess you have to reset, on all of these, on 99% of your runs, even if you played perfectly without any mistakes. And after all of that, you'll have to contend with 4-1, the most difficult level in the run by far. It's an insanely unforgiving category!Having finished the run, I can now look back on it and say that it's my favorite Spelunky run ever. Previously my Pacifist Chain Triathlon deathless completion was a niche favorite of mine that was an extremely unique type of run that appealed to me a lot. But this has finally topped it, I think, and I don't know what it would take to beat this. Speedrunning UFO 50 Puzzles for the Cause (Avianos Speedrun) HectiqueAgain 2024-10-03 | --UFO 50 Avianos Gold Cartridge Speedrun World Record (13:46.668)Avianos is a surprisingly fun game, given that I usually don't enjoy titles in this style. I think the smaller size of the game makes it easier to tackle if you're less experienced with this type of strategy game. For this run, I mostly rely on aggressively pushing castles with Rex to generate a lot of basic Sword and Archer units from seeds and block out the CPU. Rerolling the board is pretty important, since some boards just aren't viable to quickly steamroll due to mountain and castle placements.
