Music Unites - Muziekeducatie voor vmbo klassen Metropole Orkest 2023-08-04 | Muziek bezit de unieke kracht om mensen samen te brengen. In Music Unites hebben vmbo scholieren uit de omgeving Hilversum en Utrecht onder begeleiding van muzikale experts hun eigen verhaal omgezet naar unieke muziek om uit te voeren met het wereldberoemde Metropole Orkest. De scholieren schreven zelf tekst en creëerden ritmes en melodieën. Het bewijs dat zelfs als je geen noten kan lezen of een instrument bespeelt kan je schitterende muziek maken die mensen met elkaar verbindt!Music Unites is een educatief project van TivoliVredenburg, Globe CKC Hilversum en het Metropole Orkest in samenwerking met Rohan Poldervaart. Together they intertwine the music that is a reflection of Nai’s roots and her life in Amsterdam. A colorful and surprising mix of Arabic classics, her own compositions and jazz. Works he wrote for the orchestra during his 28 years with the orchestra.Master arranger Vince Mendoza first conducted the Metropole Orkest in 1995. The starting point for a sustainable collaboration. In 2005 he succeeded Dick Bakker as chief conductor and brought fantastic soloists and projects to Hilversum.“The term Olympians”, Mendoza explains, referring to the album’s title, “is something that I use quite often while on the podium with the Metropole as I feel that this orchestra continues to play difficult music with grace, enthusiasm, and accuracy, especially given the wide scope of the projects they have done over the years. They’ve really developed the ability to be comfortable with so many different styles of music which is quite unusual for an orchestra. This recording shows them at the height of their Olympian powers.”‘Olympians’ was recorded when the orchestra was unable to give concerts. Drummer and co-producer Martijn Vink: “We are used to play a different project every week. Now we suddenly had the time to really take the time to explore Vince’s best compositions and record their ultimate versions.”The album features guest appearances from vocalists Dianne Reeves and Cécile McLorin Salvant, saxophonists Chris Potter and David Binney, percussionist Alex Acuña, and the late guitarist Ramón Stagnaro (charango). Suzanne Ciani & Metropole Orkest - Opening concert Amsterdam Dance Event 2022 Metropole Orkest 2022-10-18 | Synth legend Suzanne Ciani and Simon Dobson explain why the ADE 2022 opening concert will take you to the other side of the universe.Metropole Orkest returns to the Melkweg on 19 October 2022 for the official opening concert of the Amsterdam Dance Event. This year’s collaborator is the electronic music pioneer and ‘Diva of the Diode’ Suzanne Ciani. Ciani will lead the Metropole Orkest into her mesmerizing quadraphonic world of electronic music.Suzanne Ciani, trained as a classical composer, became a pioneer of electronic modular performance in the late 1960s, performing live concerts on the analog modular Buchla synthesizer. She also carved out a spot for herself as an acclaimed sound designer for films, games, and advertising. Having released over twenty solo albums, the 2018 album “LIVE Quadraphonic” led her back into performing live all around the world on the Buchla 200e. The instrument is the modern version of the analog modular synthesizer that Suzanne played throughout the 1970s, designed by visionary Don Buchla.The one-off performance with Metropole Orkest at the Melkweg will feature Ciani controlling the spatial movement of the sound in a quadraphonic speaker set up. Four equally powered speakers in opposite corners will create a hypnotic surround sound experience where electronic and acoustic instruments are intertwined.

What followed were three decades that are now seen as the ‘golden age’ of Arab film and music culture. With the unmistakable key person, Mohamed Abdel Wahab. You could say he is the Quincy Jones of Egypt. A legendary singer and actor himself, but above all the composer behind all the big stars. Via Radio Cairo, the hits he wrote for artists such as Oum Kalthoum, Abdelhalim Hafez, Warda Al Jazairia, Asmahan, Farid Al Atrash and Fairouz spread across the Arabic world. The music of this era is a convergence of the Arab musical tradition and European influences, inspired by poetry. The result is a musical movement with an impact comparable to the impact Elvis and The Beatles had and still have in Western music.
