Costco in Seoul: 2 Floors, Samsung Prices, and a $1.43 Hot Dog Sherwin Travels 2026-09-07 | A Costco in Seoul has two floors, and the hot dog combo is cheaper than back home.Day three in Seoul and we ended up at a Costco. My US membership works here, which still feels strange to say out loud. Inside it looks almost exactly like ours, right down to the Kirkland stack, until you notice the building goes up instead of out.I priced a few things while we walked. A Samsung TV at 899,000 won, roughly $642 depending on the exchange rate. A Galaxy S25 256GB at 999,000 won, about $714, which turned out to be an event price rather than the shelf price. Kirkland paper towels at 34,990 won, about $25 for twelve rolls.Then the part I did not expect. Getting downstairs means a ramp instead of stairs, and the cart wheels lock into grooves so nothing rolls away from you.And the hot dog. 2,000 won, somewhere around $1.43. Cheaper than the $1.50 back home. Starfield COEX Library in Seoul: Are Those Books Actually Real? Sherwin Travels 2026-08-31 | Starfield COEX in Seoul has a library inside the mall. I got closer to see if the books were real.We came in from an earlier stop with snacks still in hand and ended up at Starfield COEX. Malls back home are mostly dead now. Everyone orders online. This one was packed.The library sits right in the middle of the floor, open to the mall, shelves running up well past anywhere a person could reach. I was convinced the top rows were photos of books glued to a wall. They are not. They are actual books.I also priced a Samsung S25 while I was there, 256GB international version, around 1.1 million won, roughly $800 depending on the exchange rate. Bukchon Hanok Village Has Visiting Hours Now: 10AM to 5PM in Seoul Sherwin Travels 2026-08-24 | Bukchon Hanok Village has visiting hours now, 10am to 5pm.People actually live in those houses, and enough of us showed up that the city made it official. There is a board at the entrance with a colour-coded map and a line telling you it is a residential area. Then a block later there is a yellow banner from the local merchants association reading Stop the Curfew, because the quiet the residents asked for is the same quiet that empties the shops. Nobody is entirely wrong in that argument.Before that we ate in Insadong at a second-floor sotbap place, rice cooked and served in its own pot, around 12,000 won or roughly $8.70 depending on the exchange rate. I ordered a makgeolli and told you on camera it had cream in it. It does not. That is rice sediment settling out, which is also why you roll the bottle instead of shaking it. Hanbok Rental in Seoul: Gyeongbokgung Palace Gets You In Free Sherwin Travels 2026-08-12 | Hanbok rental in Seoul runs about $11 to $18, and wearing it gets you into Gyeongbokgung free. Day two in South Korea. We hired a driver for the day and the first stop was Gyeongbokgung, the largest of Seoul's five grand palaces. Across the street is Hanbok Town, one of dozens of rental shops on that block. The standard four hour package runs roughly 15,000 to 25,000 won, about $11 to $18, with premium and couple sets going higher, and most shops hold a deposit or your passport until you bring it back. Here's the part I had backwards on camera: hanbok is not a tour package you buy. It's traditional Korean clothing, and South Korea has let anyone wearing it into the royal palaces free since 2013, four palaces plus Jongmyo Shrine. Gyeongbokgung admission is only 3,000 won anyway, a bit over $2, so the free entry is a nice bonus rather than the reason to do it. Also in this one: why so many cars here have foam strips on their doors, the changing of the guard, and Gyeonghoeru, the banquet hall sitting out over its own pond. One tip. Go in the morning. Good Food Farm, Laguna: A Carabao Farm Where You Eat, Swim & Stay Sherwin Travels 2026-07-30 | Good Food Farm in Laguna is a carabao farm where you can eat, swim, and stay the night.Off the road between Santa Cruz and Liliw, right at the Magdalena fork, is Anihan Sustainable Gastronomy by Chef JR Royol, better known by the sign out front: Good Food Farm. The whole place is built on the carabao (water buffalo). The meat, the milk, and the kesong puti white cheese all come from it. We tried the bread and kesong puti, iced coffee with fresh carabao milk, homemade sandwiches, a backwards (malikad) salad, camote chips with vinegar mayo, and kare-kare made with carabao. About ten of us ate for around 7,700 pesos.It is more than a restaurant. There are pools you can swim in, thatched cabanas at the foot of the mountain, a spa, fishing, and horseback riding. You can come for the day or rent one of the overnight huts that sleep up to eight. Leaving Tokyo Day 5 | Haneda Terminal 3 Is Basically a Luxury Mall Sherwin Travels 2026-07-03 | Day 5 in Tokyo and it's checkout day. One last pasta lunch up the tower in Shibuya, a proper goodbye to the Hotel Indigo staff, and the ride to Haneda for our ANA flight home to California.This trip was mainly a shopping trip. I was the bag boy.But the last day had some of my favorite moments: the wagyu we grabbed at a little bar near the hotel the night before, the 90-minute massage the Hotel Indigo front desk tracked down for us (they called around town themselves, that's service), and Haneda Terminal 3, which is less an airport and more a high-end mall with gates attached. Now we're here—what a view! Lake Michigan side is dark but you can spot the Ferris wheel from up top. This area has an interesting tilt room where the edge actually leans. 360 CHICAGO Observation Deck: The Best Views of the Windy City! (TILT Experience & 94th Floor) Sherwin Travels 2026-01-11 | I’m here in the heart of the Windy City checking out the iconic 360 CHICAGO observation deck! If you're planning a visit, a quick heads-up: the entrance can be a little tricky to find. It’s actually located on the lower level concourse, so if you see the Benihana or the Starbucks, you’re in the right spot!We took the elevator straight up to the 94th floor—over 1,000 feet above the Magnificent Mile—and the views are absolutely stunning. From up here, you get a full 360-degree look at the city, including Navy Pier, the sparkling Ferris wheel, Lake Michigan, and the Loop. One of the coolest parts is the "CloudWalk" area where they have screened windows that let you actually hear the sounds of Chicago from a thousand feet up!I also got a look at the famous TILT room. It’s basically a thrill ride where the glass windows tilt you out 30 degrees over the city streets below. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart! Just a reminder if you go: they don’t allow photos or videos inside the TILT room while it’s in motion, so you really have to experience that adrenaline rush for yourself. Field Museum Chicago at Night: A Real Night at the Museum Experience! Sherwin Travels 2026-01-04 | The food trend definitely improved today, starting with some delicious barbecue, cornbread, and mac and cheese. But the real excitement was heading to the museum. We actually took a "party bus" over with the whole group, and as soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a live drum line and entertainers. Walking into the main hall was stunning. My boys were especially hyped because they love the Night at the Museum movies. While that movie was actually inspired by and filmed at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, being here at the Field Museum at night—with the whole place closed off just for us—definitely gave off those same magical vibes!We were on the main floor right by some of the most iconic exhibits. Since this was a special private event with an open bar and live performers, I didn't record quite as much as usual because I really wanted to just soak in the experience with my family. United Center PILGRIMAGE! Banned from Michael Jordan Statue by the DNC?! Sherwin Travels 2025-10-22 | I'm back in my hometown of Chicago with my childhood best friend, Eugene, and today was a pilgrimage day for this lifelong Bulls fan! Our main mission was to visit the iconic United Center, the legendary "Madhouse on Madison," and see the Michael Jordan Statue!As soon as we pulled up and saw those championship banners and the magnitude of the arena (and the empty streets!), I felt the rush! Unfortunately, the entire United Center Atrium—where the Jordan Statue now resides—was shut down because they were setting up for the Democratic National Convention (DNC)! I was literally right there and couldn't get a picture with "His Airness." Seriously bummed!Since we were blocked by security (darn you, Kamala!), we became tourists and headed downtown to Millennium Park to check out The Bean (which reminded me of Flight of the Navigator!). We also caught a glimpse of Buckingham Fountain (the Married with Children intro spot!) and finished the day the only proper Chicago way: with Italian Beef and hot dogs at Portillo's!It was a great day with a great friend. My brother was born there, and we lived there for several years. It's been an incredibly long time since our last family road trip in a Ram 350 van, which took us all the way to New York and back! Before leaving, we stopped by my cousin Ate Baby and Kuya Ferdie’s place in Liliw—famous for their locally made footwear! I also reflected on growing up as one of the youngest in my generation, hanging out with cousins and godkids who are barely younger than me.We lit candles at the church in Liliw for safe travels, then made our way back to Manila, passed through the lounge, and finally flew out via Taipei. I even managed to grab some legit Taiwanese beef noodles and boba—so worth it!And yes, we’re back home now. Last Day in Tokyo! 🍣 Sushi Lunch, Airport Lounges & Business Class Upgrade! Sherwin Travels 2025-02-27 | It's our last day in amazing Tokyo, Japan! Join us as we check out of our Shibuya hotel and navigate our way to Haneda Airport for our flight back to Manila. Even though it was raining, we made the most of our final hours in Tokyo.We grabbed two Ubers (since large cars are rare here!) and headed back to Shibuya Scramble Square for some incredible sushi. I went for the omukase experience and it was phenomenal! Seriously, some of the best sushi I've ever had. I even shared some Sapporo beers with the sushi chefs – Google Translate for the win! The food in Japan is just on another level.After lunch, we hopped in a spacious Toyota HiAce van to Haneda Airport. We arrived super early (6-7 hours!), but with lounge access and the possibility of a business class upgrade, we decided to relax at the airport. We explored the observation deck, checked out the airport lounges (deep-fried chicken and takoyaki!), and were thrilled to find out our bid for business class seats was accepted!The flight itself was a bit turbulent, and the food wasn't amazing, but those business class seats were definitely worth it for the comfort!
