Drayton Manor Park opened the Pirate Adventure in 1990. My guess is that with EuroDisney set to open in 1992 with their 'Pirates of the Caribbean' ride, Drayton needed a signature attraction, and wanted to get their version open first! Sadly, over time the animatronics seized up, and bits fell off! Fewer boats were used as the ride became less popular, until the ride fell into such disrepair it became obsolete in 2020.

The ride has since been fitted with double seats, which have optional hoods to shelter riders from adverse weather, and neighbours from noise. But we see here it's original single seat configuration. As the first of it's kind, being so high on a single, flimsy, plastic chair with a seat-belt, was pretty scary! This ride now travels the UK with Mellors, and regularly visits Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, Nottingham Goose Fair, Hull Fair, Newcastle Town Moor Fair (The Hoppings), and other fairs, venues and festivals. The town of Tilburg closes it's streets every July for the annual fair, and the 3rd Monday of July, is dedicated to Roze Maandag. There's a Pride - style parade, DJs and live music from various stages, and the rides and bars get decorated with pride flags and pink balloons. The fun starts during the afternoon, but the party runs until late into the night. LaQua, Tokyo Dome City www.ukrides.info 2020-06-22 | LaQua is part of the amusement park at Tokyo Dome City, Japan. The dome itself is home to the Yomiuri Giants baseball team. A spa, shopping mall, cafes and rides form LaQua, where the main feature is the Thunder Dolphin roller coaster from Swiss manufacturer Intamin, which threads the world's only centre-less Ferris wheel, also made by Intamin, 'The Big O'. The Big O is more of a circular conveyor system, than a rotating wheel! Tokyo Dome City continues beyond LaQua, where here in 2007 we find a spinning mouse coaster from Maurer, the first Intamin Impulse (shuttle LIM launch) coaster, 'Linear Gale', and Sky Flower parachute tower ride.LaQua is also where you'll find The Moomins' cafe & bakery!Music: 'Big In Japan' by Alphaville.
Hanayashiki, Jet Coaster, Bee Tower. www.ukrides.info 2020-06-22 | Hanayashiki is Japan's oldest amusement park, occupying a small space in the middle of Tokyo's Asakusa district - also famous for it's market and temple.Opening as a horticultural garden in 1853, it has also been a small zoo, before it's current function as a small children's amusement park.The Roller Coaster was originally called 'Jet Coaster', opening in 1953 it was the first coaster in Japan. It was also the first coaster made by Togo, who have dominated the Japanese amusement ride industry ever since.
