While 3d animation often takes front and center in projects such as ours, the efforts undertaken by our 2d team often takes a backseat to such things. So lets fix that!
The art of taking the original perk and skill icons from Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas goes beyond merely tracing and animating the Vault Boy art used for those games, even though that alone would be a significant amount of effort. Much of the art created from those games comes from a number of different base pieces of art, and as such often have slight off-model variations that result in them looking rather silly alongside the far more standardized art used in Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. To combat this, the Vault Boy art used in Fallout 4: New Vegas is redrawn to be on-model with the art created for Fallout 4, using the perks from Fallout 3 and New Vegas that survived to Fallout 4as a template to ensure we remain on-model. After this base art has been recreated, our animation team painstakingly animates the art to ensure that the original character and intent is preserved, while giving each piece of animation the suitable flair and character that Fallout 4's animated art has.
This showcase features the work of a number of members of our 2d team - in no particular order they are: Bruno Sathler - artstation.com/brsathler - Cowboy perk, RatPack, Run’ n Gun
While not explicitly present in this showcase, LOC's efforts to recreate the Vault Boy images used in Fallout: New Vegas to a more consistent standard will give our art team a powerful resource for the creation of a consistently on-model and high-quality set of animated perk and skill animations for F4NV.Fallout 4: New Vegas - Showcase Week Gameplay Trailer 2020Fallout 4: New Vegas2020-10-19 | Featuring the work of:
