For this episode, just to show a little bit of balance in the "Reselling art at auction after holding for less than 5 years" equation, I thought I'd show you some "exceptions to the rule". These are sales and purchases in which the owner resold the art at auction after less than 5 years of ownership, but actually made a profit rather than a loss, something which the data shows only happens in approximately 15% of cases. But not all is as rosy as it may sound even for these winners, so tune in to see what I mean by that. Just 7 days after my 5 hour, non-stop talk-a-thon, I hope my voice holds out! Comic Art: Commissions Ep. #2 - 1 Host, 1 Artist & 2 Collectors! Rubén DaCollector 2025-04-14 | Hi Everyone! After my first episode of this new series focused on the world of commission collecting, I never imagined the 2nd episode would come so quickly. No, NOT because there was anything wrong with the first episode, in fact it was really good and a lot of fun. No, I'm surprised simply because I don't know almost anyone who is primarily a commission collector and I'm therefore going to have to rely on people to reach out to me and ask to take part in future episodes in order for more episodes of this series to be produced. That's exactly what happened here, as both Newell (Stingray) and Yoshi reached out. As soon as that happened, I new this second episode was going to happen sooner than expected and all I needed to do was find one more person to join us. With that in mind, it occurred to me that it would actually be even more fun and interesting if rather than a third collector, I instead got a commissions artist to join us so we could get opinions and views from BOTH sides of all commission transactions, and that's where Yevgeny Sokolov aka Superman: Red Son came in. Okay, okay, that's not his nickname. Yes, I just made that up on the spot a couple of seconds ago. But then again, he IS built like Superman and IS Russian, so maybe I'll shorten it to "Red Son" and see if it sticks. Welcome to Comic Art Show & Tell #68, where we'll be taking a deep dive into the original art collection of Newell T, aka Stingray! I personally have only recently begun getting to know him, but given that the bulk of his art collection focuses on some weird looking character nobody has ever even seen in comics before, yet who reminds us of Guardian/Vindicator from Alpha Flight but with weird flappy under arm wings like the Ditko version of Spidey's underarm webbing, I think it's pretty safe to assume that when Newell shares some of his background with us, we're very likely going to find out about his love for, and large collection of Corvette Stingrays! I'm looking forward to it and know it's going to be a really fun show. Newell told me that Monday is a holiday, so he wants to make Stanley happy and break the episode length record.
