Since it was founded on April 27, 1935, as the Soil Conservation Service, USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has been committed to helping people help the land. Today and into the future, NRCS is committed to continuing that legacy by helping farmers, ranchers and private forest landowners nationwide implement conservation practices to conserve air, water, soil, and habitat. While many things have changed in the past 90 years, the vision of a scientifically and technically rigorous, interdisciplinary agency that works with local partners to tailor conservation solutions to the land for the benefit of all Americans remains at the heart of NRCS’ mission.
