Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is an Soulslike Action-RPG developed by renowned developers Team Ninja (makers of Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, and Nioh series) and published by Koei Tecmo (publisher of the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors). Focusing on the popular Romance of the Three Kingdom, you will be playing as an unnamed militia fighter participating in battles before the establishment of the Three Kingdoms. Starting from AD 184, your character will be thrown into the war-torn and demon-infested era of China and will coincidentally be saved from death by a blindfolded boy who will then provide our protagonist the power needed to fight against the demons and one behind their appearance.
Garnering Metacritic scores of 79 (PC), 80 (PS5), and 79 (XBSX), praises were mainly given to its settings, simplified mechanics compared to its Nioh counterpart, and the introduction of the morale system and reinforcements which is fresh in the Soulslike genre. Anent the criticisms, the loot system was criticized for being inferior to the Nioh series and how the game relies heavily to the parry mechanic which deprives variety in builds and fighting styles.
For me, being a long-time fan of the Nioh series, this new game was a breath of fresh air for me. Although it is technically a Souls clone game, it added things which separates itself from the other clones through its removal of the weapon skill tree in Nioh, and relying heavily with parries in battles. The platforming was also a plus in which you can now jump and makes stealth attacks which is nice for me. In my opinion, this is more Sekiro than a Souls game which is already a good thing for me. A recommended game to Souls fans, Enjoy!!!
