The Eldrazi return in Modern Horizons III, but are we any closer to understanding the motives of these mysterious creatures?
Both games have iconic characters, locations, and events - but who has the better resource system? The better management of their color pie? And, most importantly to this lore mage: who has the best STORY happening on the cards?
I thought we'd have some fun with drafting, but if things end abruptly (probably becuase my computer melted) just remain calm. I'll relaunch the stream as fast as I can. Thanks!
Ashiok, Wicked Manipulator is currently worth less than a dollar, which makes the card a great focal point for my budget deck: The Dark Forest!
Packed with ways to exile cards (both ours and our opponent's), remove threats, proliferate our planeswalker loyalty, and even gain some life to stave off the burn decks, we've got a very capable pile for a very low price!
All of which makes me ask The Question: Can we save Ashiok from the bulk bin? Grab your green cup and let's find out!

Outlaws of Thunder Junction has a lot going on, from Kellan finding his father Oko, to Jace and Vraska 'adopting' Loot, there are so many characters, locations, and events to keep track of!
And that's before we get into the set's four side stories, which give us some extra details about the people who populate this western-themed plane.
So hop on board the Mustache Express as we cover what ELSE happens in...the cowboy hat set!
It's a piece of advice that gets tossed around a lot, but if you're new to the game you probably don't have the context to understand what it means, so today I'm answering The Question: Why do we say you should always BOLT the BIRD?
In honor of Mother's Day Weekend, I thought it would be fun to look at a mother/daughter combo currently in standard that got some help with new cards from Outlaws of Thunder Junction!
Pia Nalaar is joined by her loving daughter, Chandra, and with some spells getting cast from exile they're able to deploy an air force of 1/1 flying thopter tokens!
Is it enough to turn up the heat this Mother's Day? That is...The Question!
Whenever a new set drops, I like to look at the gold uncommons for inspiration. They're a great way to learn the new mechanics and themes, and sometimes you'll find a surprising synergy with older cards in the format.
Which brings me to Intimidation Campaign from Outlaws of Thunder Junction - a blue and black enchantment that drains our opponent and draws us a card, and we can return it to our own hand to cast again whenever we commit a crime.
Enter Tatsunari, Toad Rider, and his frog buddy Keimi. They reward us for casting enchantments, so they're perfect to pair with our Campaign since we'll be casting it multiple times per game!
Toss in some other cards that care about crimes, like Blood Hustler, and some ways to target our opponent's creatures (Cut Down, Infernal Grasp) or their hand (Deep Cavern Bat) or even their spells on the stack (Phantom Interference) and you've got a budget deck that will make you one of Thunder Junction's MOST WANTED crime frogs!
Ashiok (ok really Jace) hired the fae trickster Oko to break into a mysterious vault on Thunder Junction, but the cunning planeswalker couldn't do it alone; he had to assemble his own Rakish Crew to pull off the biggest heist the multiverse has ever seen!
So, who did he turn to for help? It's a real rogue's gallery: Vraska, Malcolm, Breeches, Eriette, Annie Flash, Satoru Umezawa, Kaervek, Tinybones, Rakdos, Gisa, Geralf, and even his own son, Kellan!
Where did all these people come from, and how did Oko convince them to join his gang? That's...THE QUESTION!
intotheam.com/MagicArcanum
Outlaws of Thunder Junction saw Kellan reunited with his father, Oko, but there was another family being formed at the same time...
Jace and Vrasksa "adopted" Loot, the Key to Everything; but how did they break free from the oily grasp of Elesh Norn and the Phyrexians?
Why did Jace decide to impersonate Ashiok? And what is their plan for the future of the multiverse?

Outlaws of Thunder Junction takes us to a new plane filled with familiar faces, but if you don't have time to read all of the online story chapters or collect the set's spotlight cards, you're in luck partner, because I'm here to tell you exactly what happens with Oko, Vraska, Tinybones, Gisa, Geralf, Malcolm, Breeches, Eriette, Rakdos, Ashiok, Kellan, Annie Flash, Kaervek, and Satoru Umezawa!

In Magic: The Gathering, we can divide creatures into two categories; Baneslayers, and Mulldrifters.
One helps your deck do stuff, and the other helps your deck win games...but what if we used small utility creatures to build a game-ending threat?
That's the plan for this Standard deck, which uses Urborg Scavengers and Eater of Virtue to swallow up useful abilities from Ayara's Oathsworn, Deep-Cavern Bat, and Phyrexian Fleshgorger, and creates a body worthy of Baneslayer status!
Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty will go down in history as one of the best sets Magic: The Gathering ever produced, and I've put together a simple little combo deck using two cards to prove it.
Want to attack with a hasty, trampling 7/7 as early as turn three? Anchor to Reality makes it possible, provided you've got someone around to crew the freshly fetched Thundersteel Colossus!
March of the Machine: The Aftermath might be the most reviled set in Magic: The Gathering history, but is that fair? Are its 50 cards completely useless, or can we get some juice from this lemon by looking at Karn, Legacy Reforged, a pair of sorcery spells, and...a dinosaur?
What do YOU think about March of the Machine: The Aftermath? Let me know in the comments!
From Magic Cons to Commander Festivals, we've got tips on how to pack, plan, and play!
So come hang out with me and the rest of the panel as we share our favorite stories about traveling to the biggest events for our favorite trading card games :-)
A pressure valve card is a tool given to us by the designers of Magic: The Gathering, so that we might combat oppressive strategies that emerge from each new set release, like Murders at Karlov Manor.
Sentinel of Lost Lore, from Wilds of Eldraine, is such a card - the ability to exile graveyards stops reanimation strategies, and prevents our opponent from gathering evidence on us. Pretty great!
It also has natural synergy with other cards from its own set, so we can build a deck around adventure creatures like Mosswood Dreadknight and Gumdrop Poisoner, and support them with Virtue of Persistence and a very sharp Sword of Forge and Frontier.
Is it enough to release the pressure of Standard? Let me know what you think in the comments!

I'm often critical of the official Magic: The Gathering story, which causes people to ask me what I would do differently. So, today, I'll tell you.
The players remain the same: Kaya, Teysa, Trostani, Tolsimir, Judith, Massacre Girl, Alquist Proft, and even Kellan and Amalia are all here.
But the plot has changed, even though we can't leave the plane or introduce anyone new to the story. How will I reform this mess of mind controlled murderers into something with higher stakes? You'll just have to watch and see, because it's story time!
Rule 0 is a huge part of Commander's success and popularity, but might there be a better way to start the conversation around the experience you're looking to have, especially when playing without your regular group?

Magic: The Gathering is over 30 years old and has accumulated a lot of complexity as it has aged. While I understand that the boundless interactions between the game's massive catalogue of cards is a huge part of its own success, sometimes I pause and wonder: how much extra stuff does my favorite deck really NEED?
This week we had Valentine's Day, and I was inspired by my love for another card game - the Star Wars CCG, by Decipher!
Star Wars is a pretty good love story, too, but the real draw for me was figuring out how to bring the famous main characters and their supporting "toys" over to Magic: The Gathering in a fun and flavorful deck that captures a lot of the same energy as the game I grew up playing in the 1990s.
What about you? What games do you love, aside from Magic? Let me know in the comments, and check out my sponsor TCG Home to get help organizing your collection, because there's nothing worse than losing track of the cards you love!

Murders at Karlov Manor had its prerelease recently, and players could find one of three exclusive promotional cards within their kit, but that begs The Question: are these cards good for Magic: The Gathering?
intotheam.com/MagicArcanum
Murders at Karlov Manor takes us back to Ravnica for a story filled with twists and turns...and a surprisingly high body count. Will your favorite guild leader make it out alive?

Growing up, I took ten years of karate lessons, and learned how to turn my blocks into attacks, which got me thinking: could we possibly do the same in a game of Magic: The Gathering?
That's The Question today, so come along with me and my phyrxian friends as we try to make our opponent seriously regret swinging into us!

New Year, new series! Today, I'm asking The Question: Can we turn bulk rare Gixian Puppeteer into a $1 approximation of Sheoldred, the Apocalypse?
While I don't have a full deck list to share, I've got some key cards, some enablers, and some payoffs for this strategy - all of which can be picked up for less than the price of one Shelly!
But what do YOU think? Is the Praetor destined to be queen of Standard until she rotates? Or can we break out from her oppressive grasp for just a buck?

Merfolk are one of the four factions you'll find in The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, but we can trace their origins all the way back to the game's earliest days.
With over 30 years of history, there are a lot of fun and memorable cards that tell the story of merfolk's ever-changing place in Magic: The Gathering...

Hit Point Press sent me a package with some of their Series 2 Cubeamajigs in it, and they asked me to share my thoughts, so let's open it all up and see if it's the perfect product for you and your playgroup!
(Please note that while this video is sponsored, I maintained full editorial control. Cubeamajigs effectively bought my time, but they did not buy my opinion, so everything you see is my honest impression of what they sent me.)
Clashgrounds revamps the game's art style, adds a new alternative win condition, and bulks up support for the Harbinger affiliation (whose name I completely blank on in the video. Good times!)
ANYWAY - these cards are fun, and I love looking under the hood at fresh card games, so it was a real treat for me to be able to crack some packs on camera. If you want to see more on this game, let me know in the comments!
