Hidden Gems by Women Composers | BTPM Classical Live On Stage Buffalo Toronto Public Media 2025-08-09 | In March 2025 and in honor of Women’s History Month, The Musical Delights (TMD) and friends presented Hidden Gems by Women Composers for BTPM Classical’s Live On Stage Series. The Musical Delights are known for focusing on works of women composers, although they also enjoy playing music by men, both famous and lesser-known. PERFORMERS Sandra Internicola, violin Amy Kelly, violin Leslie Bahler, viola Barbara Cordaro, cello Linda Mabry, piano Melinda Easter, flute Paul Schlossman, oboe THE PROGRAM The centerpiece of the program is the Piano Quintet in A Minor (1936) by Florence Price, perhaps the most essential Black female American composer of the 20th century. That's followed by The Lost Tribe and The Great Circle from Trans-Atlantic Triptych, a work from 2021-23 for oboe, viola, and piano, by British composer Althea Talbot-Howard. Representing earlier times is Dame Ethel Smyth’s Two Interlinked French Folk Melodies (1928) for flute, viola, and piano and Luise Adolpha Le Beau’s Polonaise from Drei Stücke, Op. 26 (1884) for viola and piano. The concert concludes with a set of pieces from the 1960s by British composer Madeleine Dring: Danza Gaya and Italian Dance for oboe and piano, and Pink Minor from her Colour Suite for piano.
