It had been exciting to imagine myself as the kind of person I admire -- who conducts their life with a certain ease and straightforwardness. Not the kind of person who retreats to their room to paint flowers and bowling pins. Now I’m making peace between the two.

As someone often fixated on the subject of beauty, there was something peaceful about the plainness of the room. It allowed my mind to wander.I kept coming back to that night when when you laid your hand on the table an inch from mine. Was I supposed to reach a little further and hold it? You were looking at me the way I looked at you.

Suddenly, a beautiful and unnameable feeling possessed me to paint a flower. Then a tree. Then an apple. Then a butterfly. As I taped each painting to a wall in my apartment, I remembered writing my first crush's name over and over in my notebook. I’d write it as big as it would fit on the page, or small -- as many times as I could. She was the fastest girl runner and I was the fastest boy runner. Her favorite color was blue and mine was red. With her as a reference, I knew exactly who I was.I didn’t stop until every wall was completely covered. The final painting I placed was of two hands reaching up to the sky. Funtown USA (music video) tv room 2023-08-16 | Waiting in line for the roller coaster, I was reconciling the fear that I would die with the inextricable thrill of it. By the time the restraint pressed against my heart, I had accepted death. And for better or worse I knew exactly what it would look like. I had spent the previous night watching tragedy after tragedy online with a morbid fixation.I didn’t realize how profound my experience at the amusement park had been until years later as an adult, contemplating my death once again. Spending hours online figuring out exactly how it would happen. The simultaneous fear and excitement were so familiar to me. I had already made up my mind at Funtown.

For children there is no distinction between the two -- playing games of cops and robbers, choosing dream jobs and best friends forever. A past life spent with friends and family, at malls and fairs, on trampolines and see-saws -- I remember it viscerally, in flashes between fast food dinners and warranty scams.Resigned and alienated in adulthood, living through memories, I choose to believe in the power of the mind. I don’t want to do my chores. I don’t want to wash dishes or get haircuts or read emails. By faith in my imagination, between naked walls, I manifest something else.
The Great State of Maine: Part 6 of 6 tv room 2021-11-05 | HUGE THANKS to Ross Cunningham for acting and my friend Jimmy Bie for coming up to Maine to help organize and film.I grew up in Maine and moved back after college to find a job. I found one, but I was basically waking up every day exhausted, responding to angry emails, and going to bed. I started working on the song "Lake Attitash" in July 2020. I got really emotional thinking about my childhood here and in contrast how much I disliked my new life in the same place. That was the initial idea, and then it evolved into this big concept thing with the fake tv show and website. By far the biggest project I've ever done and the response was amazing so THANKS EVERYONE.
