Will replacing a chip get our Mac Quadra 610 to 40MHz? And finishing Tech Ambrosias Centris 610! BigBadBiologists BigBadBench 2024-06-09 | I previously attempted to get my Quadra 610 running at 40MHz. What I didn't realize is that the 68040 has parts of it that run at twice the processor speed. I think I found out that the clock generator chip might be the issue because it needs to generate 80MHz. Repair of a NAD T743 receiver that had cracked solder joints. It did, and I replaced that; but I also found that one of the audio channels was inconsistent. Turns out it was cracked solder joints.

This thing had about 10 bad vias and 6 bad traces. Fixing them is a pain since the vias are so tiny, but finding the bad ones is even harder! But after a lot of probing, I think I finally have it repaired! We get chime (without death chime) and video initializes!

There will be nasty pictures of this thing and more nastiness as we dig into the power supply... which looks really similar to a Macintosh IIci power supply... which has 6 Rifas. The power supply wound up being an Astec AA16870.
