Gymnopédie No. 1 - Erik Satie (Acoustic Guitar) Shawn Hertel 2011-06-03 | I finally decided to record this piece. Originally written by Satie for the piano, I used my new Taylor 714ce acoustic guitar. I absolutely love how it turned out. Satie is quickly becoming one of my favorite composers. When everyone else was going bigger and louder, Satie broke the mold and stripped things down. What remained was SPACE... and in the space is where the true beauty of anything lies.This is the reference I used for learning this on guitar. It's not 100% perfect, but it certainly gave me a foundation to work with (referring to the sheet music, which is written one whole-step lower, also helped).None of the video is mine, I just sequenced them together. The Real Housewives of Orange County Shawn Hertel 2011-04-25 | This isn't news, but go figure: reality TV isn't real.So, the woman on the far left is my cousin Siri. She and her friend (the woman on the far right) were at the same bar as these two heffalumps from RHofOC. She was asked--by the producers--to sit down next to these girls and just mingle for a bit. So they did. At no point did they "crash their private party" or "try to kiss" anyone. Seriously, who would want to kiss that Linda Tripp look-a-like besides a blind dog with no sense of smell?Staging a scene so it looks like you actually have people interested in you? That's legitimately sad.
White Wine in the Sun - Tim Minchin (Acoustic Guitar Cover) Shawn Hertel 2010-12-25 | This is my cover of Tim Minchin's "White Wine in the Sun" -- a song about how an atheist can still enjoy Christmas. To many it's not about the bible or any sort of immaculate conception... it's just about sharing that time with family--reflecting on the past and hoping for the best future.I had to change some of the lyrics since Tim's version is sung to his daughter and I only have a niece. Still, the sentiment is still there. Avs Burgundy/White Game 2010 Foote & Duchene Scrap Shawn Hertel 2010-09-21 | At the Colorado Avalanche Burgundy/White game in Broomfield, Matt Duchene and Adam Foote exchange a few pleasantries whilst ripping his helmet off. My guess was the conversation consisted of Foote telling Duchene: "Next time I tell you to make your bed and clean up your room, you freakin' do it!"
Naked As We Came - Iron & Wine (Cover) Shawn Hertel 2010-02-01 | This is my version of "Naked As We Came" by Iron and Wine. Sam Beam is an amazing songwriter and this is one of his best. It's short and simple, but also sweet and intimate--a true love song. This time around I recoded the video and audio at the same time in one take (then touched up the audio a bit). The video quality is pretty bad because I did this all around midnight, so lighting was nonexistent. Anyway, I hope you like it and come back for some more videos soon!

It's Chet Atkins' instrumental arrangement and one of my favorite solo guitar pieces.
