Through the dust cloud whipped up by its propellers, its IDF operators spied a lone man, his face covered, sitting hunched on an armchair.
It is an injured Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader and the mastermind of the Oct 7 massacre, clutching a stick in his left hand.
Brandishing his makeshift weapon at the drone, Sinwar limply tosses it towards the hovering device, as if he was resigned to fate that he was about to die.
Moments later an Israeli Merkeva tank fired at the mysterious figure, its soldiers unaware it was Sinwar, Israel’s most wanted man.

In extraordinarily tragic news, the former One Direction star Liam Payne died last night aged just 31, after falling from a third floor balcony in a Buenos Aires hotel.
But it's the reporting of Liam Payne's death that has shocked us most, with American entertainment site TMZ seeing fit to post a partial picture of his body alongside their article breaking the news. Camilla and Kamal ask what that decision tells about society, our need to rubberneck, and whether social media simply feeds our voyeuristic appetites?

In June, Mr Cargill won a Supreme Court ruling against Merrick Garland, President Joe Biden’s attorney general, over the use of bump stocks, a device that hooks onto a rifle’s stock, held against the shoulder, and uses the energy from the recoil to bump the trigger against the shooter’s finger so weapon fires faster.
Bump stocks were banned by Trump in 2018 after the Las Vegas mass shooting—the deadliest in American history—in which Stephen Paddock, 64, killed 60 concertgoers and wounded 413 when he fired more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition in 11 minutes. Investigators found a dozen rifles fitted with bump stocks in his hotel suite.
Mr Cargill was disappointed that it was Trump who banned bump stocks, but views that as an aberration. He is convinced that Ms Harris and her vice-presidential running mate Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota—a shotgun owner and hunter—are “gun grabbers”.

In a move that has raised tensions on both sides of the Korean peninsula, the North detonated landmines at locations on its side of the border on Tuesday.
In response, South Korea’s military fired warning shots south of the military demarcation line dividing the neighbours, according to its Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The road and rail line detonations did not cause any damage on Seoul’s side of the border, the JCS said.

Migrants, some of whom were intercepted in small boats in the Mediterranean, were ferried form the mainland to a port where they would be processed before being detained in new centres where their applications for asylum will be assessed.
The Telegraph visited the newly-built facilities on Monday before the first arrivals docked. On a tour organised by the Italian foreign ministry, reporters were shown neat, white rows of cabins for processing and a sprawling holding centre with 20ft-high wire fences, resembling a prison.
The first batch of migrants and refugees were on their way to the Adriatic port after being picked up at sea by the Libra, an Italian navy ship.

Israel accused the UN of turning a blind eye to Hezbollah after troops discovered a tunnel belonging to the terror group just 100 metres from a peacekeeping base.
The tunnels were shown to The Telegraph by Israeli troops on a guided visit into southern Lebanon moments before prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the UN to withdraw "immediately".
Standing at the tunnel entrance on Sunday, two weeks after Israel launched its invasion into Lebanon, troops said it was "odd" that the UN had allowed Hezbollah to construct the tunnels so close to their patrols.

The Republican presidential candidate made the announcement as he revealed plans to dismantle gangs of illegal migrants he claims have “overrun” US towns and cities.
“I am hereby calling for the death penalty for any migrant that kills any American citizen or a law enforcement officer,” Trump told a rally of supporters in Aurora, Colorado.
The former president has previously claimed that the city had been turned into a “war zone” by members of Tren de Aragua, a violent Venezuelan gang.
He announced plans to “expedite the removals of these savage gangs” by invoking the Illegal Aliens Act, a law from 1798 that allows the president to declare an “invasion” and deport non-citizens.
“We will send elite squads of ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], Border Patrol and federal law enforcement officers and arrest and deport every last illegal alien gang member until there is not a single one left,” Trump said, dubbing the scheme “Operation Aurora”.
Those who attempt to return to the US after being deported would be locked up for 10 years without the possibility of parole, he added.
He claimed that multiple apartment buildings in Aurora had been taken over by Tren de Aragua, and that it was just one of several US cities that had been “invaded and conquered” by foreign criminals. Local officials have pushed back on the characterisation.
