Robbie Phillips
LEG TRAINING FOR “MAGIC MUSHROOM” ✨🍄✨
updated
This climbing and sailing expedition was many years in the making and a dream of Robbie's to undertake. This first trip to St Kilda took Robbie and friends across the Outer Hebrides to the islands of Berneray and Mingulay, and upon finally reaching their destination, were blown away by what they found.
Join Robbie Phillips and his friends Will Birkett, Guy Robertson, Hamish Frost and Charles Smallwood as they take the path less trodden to one of the most mystical places on Earth, dubbed by the elders as "The Edge of the World, the mythical Scottish island archipelago of St Kilda
You've seen insane climbing challenges on Youtube before...but here is a completely pointless challenge. After suffering on The Long Hope, Robbie Phillips and Alex Moore decided they hadn't had enough adventure for one climbing trip.
The Challenge - Climb 'The Old Man of Hoy', 'Am Buichaille', and 'The Old Man of Stoer' in 24hrs. Why? Why Not - It's a pointless climbing adventure film about a pointless climbing challenge.
If you liked 'Not a Hope in Hoy', you might find this mildly amusing. If you hated it, best click off now and get on with your day.
This is only Part 2 of 3 of the "Climbing on Hoy" series, the third instalment "STACKED" coming to YouTube in March, but until then will be screening at events all across the UK from Jan-March. If you want to find a venue near you, follow this LINK. Equally if you want to host one of Robbie's Lecture/Film screening events, please get in touch via robbie@wallnuts.co.uk

Professional rock climber, Robbie Phillips, returns to the Scottish island of Orkney to climb 'The Long Hope'. The infamous climb is a big wall sea cliff only climbed by the most famous rock climbers, including Ed Drummonds and Dave Macleod.
After it's world premiers at Kendal Mountain Festival 2022, 'Not a Hope in Hoy' is making it's digital debut on Youtube.
The film follows Robbie Phillips and Alex Moore as they attempt to climb the world's hardest sea cliff, "The Longhope" E10 / 5.14a on Hoy, Scotland.
Steall Hut hides one of the UK’s best 8b sport climbs. Tucked away in Glen Nevis under the UK's tallest mountain, this sport climbing crag was one of the first sport climbing spots in Scotland.
Robbie and Alex Hall take on the classic climb ‘Stolen’ f8b, a climb that won’t give up it’s secrets easily. Join them for their climbing adventure in the highlands of Scotland, taking on a sport climbing challenge.

On my trad climbing trip to the Lake District National Park, there’s one mountain crag that makes an impact. Pavey Ark scrambles like Jacks Rake are famous across the UK, but so are its hard trad classics.
Next door to the Neil Gresham test piece climb Lexicon, Impact Day is a trad climb with a reputation. With trad climbing repeats from Dave Macleod, Steve McClure, and Hazel Findlay it’s a climb for your tick list.
After a winter of sport climbing and bouldering, this trip was part of becoming a trad climber again. Back to trad climbing basics…or not! Instead I chose a hard climbing project like Impact Day…whilst trying not to fall climbing and make a real impact.

With the crashing waves of the irish sea below the hanging belay on a small sloping ledge, the exposure feels immense! Certainly not your average roadside crag, but it's not more than 2minutes from a main road making it a very accessible crag for Dubliners!

All climbing gear has a carbon footprint and it is our responsibility as sport climbers, boulderers, trad climbers, mountaineers, even indoor climbers, to be responsible consumers, buy recycled or second hand climbing gear when possible and buy quality durable climbing gear instead of being greenwashed by outdoor brands who only talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk.

Buying bad climbing gear is by far the most dangerous thing in climbing. So always make sure you get rated gear from a certified manufacturer. If you aren’t sure about your climbing gear, don’t climb on it. No cheap deal is worth your life.

We know that big climbing whips, free solos, highball bouldering, and other dangerous climbing gets attention. Whether it’s in mainstream media, climbing media, on social media, or at the crag. But should we praise bold climbing or does it set a bad example in climbing?

It’s -2 degrees and there’s snow everywhere: perfect conditions to free solo the bridge crack. Robbie Phillips & Culann O Brien haven’t hand jammed or even thought about crack climbing in months. So please don’t fall boys!
We’ve climbed the bridge in winter, climbed with the Wide Boyz (Tom Randall & Pete Whitakker), and even saw world cup climber Will Bosi take a fall. But we felt inspired by Magnus Midtbø’s infamous ‘CLIMBING ABOVE FREEZING WATER - DEEP WATER SOLOING’ and thought we’d challenge ourselves.

This year I almost died whilst climbing! There were sick sends, too many close calls climbing , my biggest climbing fall ever and a climbing ground fall whilst bouldering. 2020 = Big Balls and Big Falls!
Going for the send we tested our climbing gear to the max - huge climbing fall onto climbing gear whilst trad climbing, big ground falls onto the crash pad, gear ripping, and getting to the top of the climb only barely!
Overcoming fear climbing hard trad is hard enough...it’s even harder with extreme moves with a huge climbing fall.
