Hanced Mod - Complete Playthrough, Part 1: Rude AwakeningGarlandTheGreat2024-08-17 | It's about time to play the Crash 4 mod everybody's been talking about lately. This mod is a thorough revamp of the completion system, collectibles, and level designs, including removing N.Verted mode, toned down hidden crates, improved crate puzzles, new relic times and quality of life improvements. Yeah, I just copied the description from their site. Click the link at the bottom for more info.
This will be a complete playthrough of the game to get all the collectibles, but I probably won't be going for the new and harder master time trials. The purple relics were the reason I took a long break from the game in the first place, but I hope I'll have the motivation to go back and finish them after I complete this. Anyway, it feels good to be playing this again, and I hope this playthrough will be fun. I'll try to get a video out roughly every other day and complete it by the end of the year. I don't want to rush it this time.
As for this level, there's not many changes, but it's got 106 crates instead of the original 104. One major change you can see already from the thumbnail is that the levels only have two gems now. I always thought it was silly that you got three gems just for collecting fruit. Instead, you now need 90% of them to unlock skins. That will be interesting in some levels where even 80% was a bit tricky.
Please excuse any sloppy playing, because I haven't touched this game in more than three years, and I'm playing on a keyboard for now. I hope the video quality is alright. I experienced some hiccups during recording.

However, Cortex can be very glitchy, so I simply could not finish the one I was going to play, a much harder level called Big Cortex Revenge by Kracken. There are three specific glitches that happen. One is that he doesn't fall to the ground when you attack him. That wouldn't be a problem here, but it is in the level I was going to play. Another is that he becomes invincible and you can't finish the level. The final one happened in this video. He just starts moving backwards without firing. Since it was his final life and he ran into a wall, I was still able to finish the level. So yeah, Cortex needs a little work.

This is a really annoying minigame from FFVII Rebirth. It seems fun at first, but when you try going for the 1:20 time, it just gets really frustrating. If you're wondering why I'm not uploading videos from this game, it's because I'm just not very good at it. I mean, I can beat all the bosses just fine, but the battles are a mess and would make for really bad videos. And yes, I'm still only at Junon. There's been a lot going on lately.
Anyway, I'll be back with more videos soon. I have some projects lined up this autumn, but I'll probably do some custom Crash levels before that. FinaleGarlandTheGreat2024-04-01 | Welcome to the final part of this challenge. We start with the Turks, a battle I originally skipped, but then I realized I could easily do it without taking damage, so I threw it in as a bonus. The MP will not correspond with the rest of the videos, but it doesn't make a difference. In the next battle I put up Barrier to reduce the damage taken, but it ended up not being necessary, so I didn't bother against Hojo. The last three battles had to be fought on disc 3 to get the right stats for Sephiroth. Bizarro is actually a three party battle, and I don't think I've ever seen him use Demi3 before. I avoid killing his arms to make sure he uses his level 3 spells instead of his regular attacks. I was kinda disappointed at the end, as I wanted to destroy Safer with level 3 limits, but Supernova wasn't enough to fill up the bars and then he fell to the regular attacks anyway.
I wasn't 100% sure if the challenge was doable when I started, but it ended up not being much of a problem at all. Thanks for watching!FFVII - How far can I get at level 99 without healing? Part 4GarlandTheGreat2024-03-30 | We start with Ultimate Weapon, where I have no choice but to take some serious damage. Then it's on to Carry Armor and I think the strategy is 100% Vegh approved this time, unless my current HP and MP also have to be 9999/999. It's entirely possible to fight him without taking damage anyway. I also show the following Submarine Crew battle where I have to take some damage. I fought the Gelnika Turks because I wanted Hades. The final battle is Diamond Weapon, who requires a little strategy for no damage. Make sure his first attack is a fireball, then launch two summons to trigger his countdown phase, where he will only use fireballs. With lightning elemental attacks, you can easily take him down before Diamond Flash.
Can I finish the challenge? You'll find out April 1st.FFVII - How far can I get at level 99 without healing? Part 3GarlandTheGreat2024-03-22 | This is where things start getting a little more interesting and strategy reliant. Schizo is the biggest obstacle, so I do the Wutai quest to get the Ice Ring. The first four Pagoda battles were all oneshots and not worth showing. Using three characters here may seem cheap, but it wouldn't have been much different with Yuffie solo. I just would have had to hope for a non-damaging attack from Godo. I could have avoided taking damage from Jenova-LIFE if I hadn't forgotten about her weakness to Earth, but Barret had Elemental=Leviathan, so it's no big deal. As for Jenova-DEATH, as long as she opens with Silence, you get enough turns afterwards to take her out before can attack again. Demons Gate is guaranteed no damage as long as you get the first turn and deal over 2500 damage.
Schizo is where I first take significant damage. There's no way around that final attack. I debated whether or not I would be allowed to fight random battles to level up the materia, but I decided against it. I'm allowing the level 3 Lightning and Ice from the leveling I did before the challenge started, but that's it. One thing I did allow is equipping HP Plus to make sure I don't lose any HP from equipping other materia. Anyway, Schizo gets to attack three times and they must all hit the corresponding elemental rings, so it's a little luck reliant, but I don't think I needed more than five attempts.FFVII - How far can I get at level 99 without healing? Part 2GarlandTheGreat2024-03-20 | As bosses get more HP, I need a little more luck at the beginning of the battles to be able to defeat them without taking damage. Setting ATB to Wait helps a little, as well as lowering the battle speed. Another thing that helps is that it's very easy to get critical hits. Once again, Palmer gets to be the final boss of one of these multi battle videos.
I took more damage than necessary against Bottomswell, as I had everyone in front row since Motor Ball, but I doubt any double digit damage will make a difference, so I didn't bother redoing it.
Fun fact: This video has just as many battles as the first one (9) and their lengths are less than a second apart.FFVII - How far can I get at level 99 without healing?GarlandTheGreat2024-03-18 | This is something I've wanted to do for a while, and now that I have a level 99 file in the first reactor, I have a good excuse. The idea is simple. I will fight all the mandatory battles (and some optional bosses), but I am never allowed to heal or replenish my MP. Since I don't feel like playing through the whole game, I will fight all the battles in the Train Graveyard. I wanted a full party for this one, so it'll be this party for the entire challenge. This time, I'm allowed to use anything that's normally available at the time you fight a battle. The only exception is equipment and materia combinations that will heal me, like using the Water Ring against Jenova-LIFE, but stuff that nulls damage is fine.
This will be a short series with no more than five episodes. This first part covers Midgar, where I took very little damage. As of right now, I have not finished the challenge, so I do not know the answer. Please feel free to guess.FF7 (First Reactor Boss Rush) Bonus Episode - Safer-Sephiroth at level 49GarlandTheGreat2024-03-13 | I originally did this at level 98 because the game froze at Super Nova. I was told this happens because the animation doesn't exist on disc 1. I already suspected that was the reason, but what I didn't know is that you can bypass this by simply switching discs as the battle loads. So, why didn't I just redo the battle at a lower level? Like I said, it would have been extremely luck reliant and I'd have to level up a lot anyway.
That's why this is just a demonstration of how the battle would have played out. It's been heavily manipulated with save states, so it's not a legit battle, but I wanted to show it anyway. Here's how it must go down:
- Every Shadow Flare and Break must hit Cloud (50/50 chance three times) - Every Pale Horse must hit Barret (50/50 chance at least twice) - The first Super Nova must not inflict Silence and preferably not Confusion unless you can recover from it - You can get Silence from the second Super Nova, but you still can't get screwed over by Confusion - Cloud's level 3 spells can't miss too often
I don't know the odds of Super Nova being kind, but considering it's already a 1/32 chance of success from the first two steps, it's not looking great. Manipulating the RNG is mostly done by switching between Ice3 and Bolt3, since they have different durations. Anyway, that's truly the end of this challenge, so thanks for watching and see you at the next one.

That's 80000 damage in not a lot of turns, so I leveled all the way up to 98. His wing attack targets the highest current HP, so both characters will get a limit break either way. Sorry about the anti-climax, but only the game is to blame.
My original plan was to have one character with the Reflect Ring and one with the White Cape. Shadow Flare and Break would then have to hit the Reflect Ring every time or miss, and Pale Horse would have to hit the White Cape. That's already very luck reliant, but I'd also have to pray not to get destroyed by Supernova's confusion.

Then I got to the final battle in a test run and it froze at Super Nova, so I had to do a lot of leveling to be able to defeat him. I also realized the battle would have been extremely luck reliant under level 50, so I'd have to level up anyway. If I still wanted to do the battles legit, I'd have to level up before Bizarro, making him a joke, so I decided to just fight them as two standalone battles instead. That means Cloud is still level 49 and Barret level 48.
The beginning of the battle must be done in a very specific way. First, take out the right arm before his second turn, or else he'll use Bolt3. Then, take out the left arm before his third turn, or else he'll use Quake3. Even with this much HP, you can't survive it. Finally, take out the head before his fourth turn, or else he'll use Stigma. You can survive it, but it inflicts Poison, and you really don't want that. Once that's taken care of, you need to take out the Core and finally the main body. Now, he'll get into a pattern where he uses Heartless Angel every 6th turn, and you obviously need to recover from that before he starts attacking again. Thankfully, he wastes a few turns doing nothing after Heartless Angel. As long as you know about this, the rest of the battle is really simple and his damage is too low to pose any threat.
In my original strategy, Cloud would have had the Reflect Ring, so I'd have to spend my Elixirs healing him.

The countdown starts when you've dealt more than 45000 damage to her, so make sure you get close to that and then wait for her to use Stop 14 times. For this strategy to work, you must take out the right arm and keep the left arm alive. It even inflicts Fury, which will be very handy in these final battles. Not a difficult battle, but a long and boring one.

The Strahl skipped this battle because it kept glitching out on him, but there's a way around it. The problem occurs when you get to the Waterpolo phase. After a character gets trapped and you free them, they may be unable to act for the rest of the battle. Normally, you can avoid waterpolos by fighting the battle solo, but I think the game gets confused by there only being two party members available, so that doesn't work here. Reno had the same issue with the pyramids.
The solution is to skip that phase completely, which can only be done by dealing a lot of damage in one turn. Bottomswell has 2500 HP and this phase can be triggered before you deal 1000 damage. Thankfully, the level 3 limit breaks will take care of that.
Playlist: youtube.com/watch?v=RZVKihtRZ38&list=PLOppTD8iu-hUorvNjnTfW08WtXVUICLVJ&index=1 Final Fantasy Challenge Discord: discord.gg/4gqshK6FF7 (First Reactor Boss Rush) Ep. 33 - HojoGarlandTheGreat2024-02-29 | Let's check out that new sword we got. Cloud needs to stay in back row for this one, so regular attacks won't be very effective, but at least we'll get more damage from magic and limit breaks. The first two forms are easy, but the third is an absolute nightmare with the statuses. If he keeps putting you to sleep and Regen runs out, it's very likely over. That's why he must be taken care of as quickly as possible and you need to save your limit breaks for the beginning of this battle.
However, this didn't go exactly as planned. At the end of the second battle, I thought his last attack would give Barret a limit break, so I had Cloud finish him off. Then I noticed Barret didn't quite get his limit break, so I would have to hope for the best. Two Meteorains and one Ungarmax will finish him off, so you need to stay alive long enough for Cloud to get a second limit break. Barret needs to be on constant Regen duty and wake up Cloud if necessary. Bad luck can easily end the battle and there's not much you can do about it. Thankfully, I only needed a few attempts.

You can get rid of it by casting a spell on the affected character four times, but it risks hitting the armor, making the battle last longer. He can also use the attack again, so I chose just to deal with it and use some items to heal instead. I actually had some failed attempts here because I was too stubborn to use items and he had more HP left than I thought.
After the battle I finally get a new weapon for Cloud, and it's not just any weapon. The Ragnarok gives you +97 Attack, +43 Magic and +35 Spirit. A little better than the Buster Sword's 18 Attack and 2 Magic. I couldn't ask for a better birthday gift.

Even with Rude glitching out, this is not an easy battle. You don't want Cloud to get confused and cast a level 3 spell on one of the party members, so make sure he only attacks when it's safe.
Btw, I accidentally deleted the recording for this battle and had to redo it from a different save, so the EXP and number of items may not correspond with the video before and after it.

You can't do this with a low damage output, since he'll use Lapis Laser more and more frequently as you lower his HP, and there's no way to consistently heal both characters. My characters are now considered over-leveled, but this can still go wrong if you get two lasers in a row. The Dragon Fang is used to reduce the chance of Arm Grab.

Grand HornGarlandTheGreat2024-02-15 | Cloud finally gets a change to fight these battles. On the train, the Gas Ducters are the most dangerous opponents, as they can inflict Sadness, Silence and Poison. That's why they have to be dealt with as quickly as possible.
Wolfmeister is not a threat with this much HP, so I put my characters in front row to fill up the limit bars faster. Eagle Gun is even weaker and CMD. Grand Horn is too easy to warrant his own video. Hopefully, Carry Armor will be more of a challenge.

Should have done it sooner, though, since the Ice Ring would have been handy against Schizo and my levels are a bit too high to make it challenging. I probably could have taken him down in a few turns with level 3 limit breaks. I also fought the first four pagoda battles, but they're not worth showing. I got Fury from Shake, but I'm gonna redo these battles with the Peace Ring since I don't really want to have Fury in this challenge, as I think it will make things a bit too easy.
Btw, I also fought the Attack Squads who are mandatory during this quest, but they're really easy and not worth showing. I made sure to get an S-Mine from each battle. I decided I'm allowed to fight anything that can be considered a boss and any other battle that might be mandatory during a quest leading up to a boss. I'm doing the pagoda next.

First of all, you want her to open with Silence on Cloud. If it sticks, you don't have to worry about her using it again. Barret is the healer and gets the Dragon Armlet for half damage. Cloud needs to be on Cross-Slash duty, because that extra turn you get when she's paralyzed is absolutely crucial. You could slow down the battle speed and get two extra turns to make it easier, but it'll only make the battle last much longer.
After the opening Silence, the attack pattern goes Red Light, Red Light, Tropic Wind, repeat. Red Light can be used up to three times per turn, so you have to hope she never triple attacks Cloud. You also have to make sure he always has enough HP to survive two, but if he already got hit twice on the previous turn, one Cure2 won't be enough to ensure that. In addition, you also have to heal Barret and give him Ethers when necessary. If you mess up just a single little thing, it will be all over, and I got to experience this several times.

You have to wait until they've spent all their MP before you can take them out. You barely get a chance to attack in between all the healing, but you don't want to attack more than five times anyway, since they'll use the earth counter. I needed Barret to have enough HP to survive a double double breath with the Dragon Armlet and thankfully, I didn't have to do any leveling to achieve that. However, I did have to use one of my three Phoenix Downs, because there's no way Cloud can live through this battle. Not really a difficult battle, but it can be stressful, since one small mistake will lead to your death.

This is a challenge that was started by The Strahl, but he abandoned it because he was too lazy to level up for Demons Gate. I was curious to see how the rest of the challenge would play out, so I decided to pick it up where he left off.
The idea is to use gameshark codes to fight all the bosses in the first reactor, meaning you are limited to whatever resources you can find there. Potions and Ethers can be farmed from enemies, but be careful not to die, since you only get a total of three Phoenix Downs. The materia menu has been unlocked to allow the use of Cure. You may also keep whatever is dropped by the bosses.
As for this battle, it's pretty hard and a little luck reliant, even at level 29. You still have the Buster Sword and Assault Gun. There's no protection available. It's possible to get Sadness, but it's a bad idea, since it makes limit breaks much harder to get, and you would have to die to get rid of it. So, I decided to level up until both characters could survive two rocks. The strategy is to bombard him with level 3 limit breaks. Barret's limit bar fills up faster and he can get in some decent damage with regular attacks, so Cloud is on healing duty. However, it's impossible to be completely safe at all times, so you have to pray for no double rocks or critical hits when you're not fully healed and you really don't want to see Petrif-eye.

This allows you to experiment and have some fun, like bringing Baby T to the chase. However, there will be glitches and you risk crashing the game. It can also be hard to find your way back at the end. I had to edit out several minutes of jumping around there.

Instead of five planes flying around, you get one at a time that flies in a straight line and only turns around when it hits the edge of the map. They also shoot out these bombs that only deal 5% damage and will rarely hit you anyway. I had to go out of my way to get hit by one just to show what happens. I'm sure you'll notice something else missing too. Like Bye Bye Blimps, you can't get the gem, so I don't bother with the boxes. There's no time trial either.
So yeah, that's it. It's been fun. I managed to get 48% by using a code to unlock the colored gems, but the gem from Future Frenzy is not included, so I think 50% is the max. You also need to use a code to even access the final warp room, but all you have to do is press triangle. I do this at the end of the video when the barrier reappears. Entering the save/load screen just makes it say "please wait", but you can leave after a while.

Other than that, there's a lot of differences with how the water works, but I don't think I managed to show it all. One funny thing that I discovered completely by accident is that glitch at 3:53. The platinum relic is probably possible, but I gave up. I would have made it if I didn't have to wait for the water to sink at the end.

Before beating the level, I show what happens when you get shot down. This is not even the first time I've seen Coco turn into Crash. It can also happen in the final version if you place nitros on the great wall. Not under any normal circumstances, though. You can see it here:
As seen in my previous video, you can get the time crate at any time and pick up the easiest platinum relic ever. Even if you play it fair, it's still a very easy platinum, as I did it with 46 seconds to spare. One issue I noticed is that the gun will some times just stop firing. This was really annoying.

There are too many differences to mention, but the most notable one other than the title is the very different left path that has a whole new section leading back to the main path. It's also required to go through here if you want the gem. I think it's a shame they got rid of this. It made the level better in my opinion. It can also be mentioned that parts of the level are kinda unstable. You'll see what I mean.

There are more boxes and the ones at 1:27 are really hard to get. Most of the time, I would just fly over them, and if you don't use the booster pad, you won't get enough speed to get all three. What ended up working was breaking before the pad and holding the button through the jump, but this was not guaranteed to work either, as I would often get only two. You can easily miss a box in the stacks of four too, which is why I keep checking the box counter. I thought the platinum requirement was 1:15 for all time trials, but apparently not.

One thing I didn't get to show is that speed boosting close to the exit portal will make you go straight through it. This made me lose the platinum the first time I made it all the way through the time trial. Getting below 1:15 here is really hard and you need some luck with those rotating parts.

While Midnight Run had 3 notes about differences, this has 45. You can see the list in the bottom link. There's too much to mention, but one thing I wanted to show is how the dinosaur in the death route shows up before the checkpoint, so if you die, the chase will start immediately when you respawn. Make sure to watch until the end, because that's when the most interesting thing happens.
You can get all the boxes the way you normally would, as the platform at the end of the death route takes you back to the beginning of the 2D part, but there's no box counter, so you can't get the gem. There's no clock crate either. There's also a whole other way to beat this level, but that's a story for another video.

Instead, the door works on a timer and will close after about a minute. This doesn't give you much time to mess about. I show the door closing at the end of the video. Other than that, there are some design and enemy changes. There's no box counter, no gems and no time trial crate.
