How I Stole $300 Million in Rare Diamonds | Informer VICE 2023-05-09 | This Informer was part of a syndicate of jewel thieves that hailed primarily from the Balkans. He’s been entangled in crime his whole life, including many high stake jewel heists – stealing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of uncut diamonds, jewelry and cash. It only takes him 60 seconds to walk into a jewelry store, smash the displays with hammers and crowbars and grab all he could get his hands on. He’d loot these diamonds at night and then sell them right back to the district during the day - describing this as the perfect continuum. There were enemies, violence and back stabbing situations. Once, he was kidnapped, wrapped in duct tape and had his life threatened in exchange for his blueprints and keys to the city’s diamond district. He says guys like him do not last long and was eventually caught and imprisoned for over a decade. Nowadays, the Informer has retired from crime but he misses the adrenaline, the action and the abundance of cash. He still pictures himself doing the robberies in his head and lives with no regrets, “ I lived a pretty full life, I took chances”. I Have Cleaned a Serial Killer’s House #shorts VICE 2023-07-23 | The Informer is a Crime Scene Cleaner who cleans up multiple homicides per week and has been called to shootings, stabbings, machete attacks and meth labs. One of her first shocking experiences was of a woman who fell and died from intense head trauma. Once she started decomposing, her cat started eating some of her brains which then also killed the cat from all the bacteria - despite there being plenty of cat food left over in the bowl. She just can’t ever look at cats the same way. The Informer says the hardest part of the job is dealing with survivors at the scene without causing secondary trauma. She once had to deal with the wife of a man who had shot himself. He had spent all his savings fixing up his house and then when the house flooded, it had just pushed him over. The Informer also clears out hoarder homes that are equally shocking. She once cleaned an upscale apartment where the man had been cooking meth and shooting porn. On another occasion, she cleaned a serial killer’s house and whilst going through each room - there were cameras facing every direction that made her feel uneasy. In reflection, the Informer says this job makes her see the world differently, “you’d think this job would make you more of an empathetic person, but it doesn’t, it just desensitizes you”.
