Own Sphere Grid = All characters may not leave their section of the sphere grid. Ability Nodes Only = Only activating sphere grid nodes that teach new skills and abilities are allowed. All stat increasing nodes are to be left alone. No Items = This includes everything from Phoenix Downs to Dark Matters. No Summons = Yuna is not allowed to summon any Aeons during combat. No Overdrives = RIP Kimahri. This was done on an emulated version of the Japanese FFX International version with English voiced modded in.
From the opening round to when BFA uses his Overdrive is so straightforward and basic you could do it on auto-pilot. First, Wakka does a sick trick-shot to Full Break BFA, then Rikku uses Spare Change to take out the Pagodas while Auron Sentinels. After that, I have Yuna switch to a One MP Cost staff and have Lulu lay down a Bio. From here is a solid 15 minutes of putting down all the necessary buffs that the girls will need for Phase 2 of the fight, namely x5 Focus and Reflex for Yuna and Lulu, and x5 Cheer, Protect and Auto-Life for them plus Rikku. All the while, I have to make sure to bring out Rikku to take out the Pagodas as they revive. If both revive at the same time and Rikku can't snipe them both, Kimahri can take up the third active party slot. All three are the only ones who can afford to have their MP stolen by the Pagodas, while the Auto-Regen counteracts the poison damage on Auron and Kimahri until Yuna can Esuna them.
By the end, BFA's Overdrive gauge will be near full, so to save on talk actions, I have Tidus under Auto-Life Provoke him. Note that if Wakka hadn't put BFA under Zombie in the first turn, I could use this time to retry until he gets afflicted. After BFA commits flagrant child abuse, I put Tidus under x5 Cheer, Shell, and Protect, and then have him Provoke BFA again while Lulu kills Auron to knock him out of Sentinel. From here, I have the girls switch to armors with Defense +20% and HP +50%, have Yuna lay down Regens on them, and switch her weapon with another one with Magic Booster. When I feel the time is right, I have Auron Sentinel again so that he can tank a Left Arm Thrust from BFA while still being able to escape with a Talk action, and have Rikku knock away BFA's remaining health.
Phase 2: If you're still following this description, let me explain. During Phase 2, BFA gets his third and most dangerous attack, a sword swipe that hits everyone in the party for 3,900 damage before any kind of setups, and deals a turn delay to anyone it hits. This one move is part of the reason this challenge has so few victors (0 as far as I know), since the best option against it is to just hope he doesn't use it ever during the fight.
Back to the video, the reason I made sure that Tidus got a talk turn is because BFA's first turn in Phase 2 will always be a sword swipe, but this can be skipped with a talk. From here on, BFA has a 20% chance of using his sword. The 25 minutes of setups comes into play here, as Lulu and Rikku can tank one swipe, while Yuna can tank two in a row, and the Reflexes give Lulu a 42% chance to dodge and Yuna a 32% chance to dodge. Rikku needs to be in the active party most of the time due to the Pagodas reviving. If both revive during this time, it's often better to have Lulu kill one of them instead of waiting it out with Rikku as usual. I sometimes choose to have Yuna or Lulu switch weapons instead of attacking so that the party can have more turns in case a sword swipe happens.
At 31:45, BFA falls beneath half health and starts his second attack pattern (unlike other bosses, he still switches attack patterns even if he was damaged by poison). Now his sword swipes have a whopping 66% chance of happening. A lot can go wrong here, and a bunch of my own attempts have been stopped by the bad RNG this phase of the fight brings. Miraculously, this attempt blessed me with three Jecht Beams in a row, giving me a much needed three move turn with BFA at 30,000 hit points. Tbh I was YOLOing pretty hard at the end, trusting that max Spare Change, Holy, and Doublecast Flare would put him in poison damage range. Thankfully, that happened, giving him a mere 1401 HP left, so no matter what he did, I'd have won.

After the slew of cheap auto-battle bosses, Ouroboros is an actually quite involved and gratifying puzzle boss that requires manipulating his AI so your damage dealers can get to the final round so they can do their usual nonsense.
0:00 - Phase 1
The fight starts a bit gimmicky, with Big O pulling his moves from the party's active jobs, meaning he can use his basic attack, Quaga, Stomp, or Pay to Play. I get around all of this options by having Tiz Kairai him onto someone with a Reflect Ring. Once he gets extra BP from Haste World, he'll use Multiburst in a predictable manner, which is also easily solved with Full Leverage and Rampart. Once he's hit 19 times, he goes to Phase 2.
2:32 - Phase 2
He gets big and can use Mudo. Just Karai him onto Tiz with a Null Death ring equipped and hit him with six meteors.
5:16 - Phase 3
This time around he needs 11 hits to change phases. Nothing to fear if you know what to do, since his new BP drain skill is very easy to work around.
8:48 - Phase 4
The intended way to play this phase is to drop him to half health three times to trigger his Armageddon, but he also does that if he has extra BP. Thankfully, Armageddon is a magic attack, so anyone with Absorb Magic can no-sell this phase quite easily. Don't worry about Tiz and Agnes, they auto-revive at the end of the phase.
17:07 - Phase 5
Jesus, that's a lot of cutscene. Anyway, this is the last phase and the easiest. After Tiz directions any misfortune towards him and away from Agnes and Ringabel, just hit Absorb Magic and Meteor, then auto your way through the rest of the fight like it's the Perfect Airy boss. With the bonus dungeon open we can get the option to fight the games superboss. This is yet another case of either losing in the first turn, or living to round two and winning the rest of the fight. Deneb is set to always spend one turn reviving Comrade if he's dead, and it takes seven hits to kill him. With this setup, as long as she doesn't start with Mass Slash, you can set up an auto turn order that will insure that she can't kill you (so long as you have about 300,000 pg).Bravely Default - Airy (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2021-04-08 | Strange Journey did it.

Okay, back on to the story bosses. In her first phase Airy can use a party wide physical attack that even Edea has trouble surviving, and a party wide Stop attack. to get around this, I have Edea start the fight already poisoned, which will bait Airy into using Poison Punisher, which gives us plenty of room to do set up.
From here, it's a simple manner of keeping Airy's BP at one or higher, as this will prompt her to use Slaughter into Poison Punisher, the former which gets handily blocked by Rampart, and the latter becomes completely useless as long as everyone is wearing something with Poison immunity. After 19 Meteors, she geos into her second form, which is a lot less interesting than her first form. Outside of a small chance to charm the whole party turn one, is completely unlosable so long as you have someone with Absorb Magic while Haste World is active. Overall, a pretty fun little puzzle boss.Bravely Default - The Last Sentinels (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2021-04-07 | Stabs daughter wearing a bikini with a claymore, 1 HP of damage.

Another unique and brain bending team fight to end the gauntlet on, but much faster to beat. The big hurdle to overcome in this fight is Artemia, as the only move she has in this fight is Multiburst (she doesn't even have a basic attack), and there isn't a way to put Rampart up fast enough in turn one. Feel No Pain isn't an option here since it will take a whole precious turn to revive anyone who gets downed after the effect wears off, even with Reraise. In the end, I opted to simply brute force the rng until it gave me what I wanted, giving Tiz and Agnes Stand Ground while hoping it wouldn't hit Ringabel at all (Edea can tank it just fine).
Once you manage to live through that, the fight becomes a simple affair of giving a Templar the BP needed to put a Rampart up every turn while an Arcanist does what they do best. Absorb Magic no-sells Khamer completely, and I had Edea attack Artemia when she had the BP to make the fight go that extra bit faster. This strategy costed me about ћ200,000 in total, a good chunk of change, but one I could easily burn off with how much grinding I had done.Bravely Default - Team Hailments (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2021-04-06 | Where do I sign up?

These guys bring a lot more to the table than "damage moves go brr". They can all inflict some nasty status ailments, and DeRosso in particular is pretty lethal thanks to his resistance to Arcanist magic as well as Toxic Whirl, a full party physical attack that poisons. The strategy shown here is slow as hell, but it is very safe and allows me to hit auto-battle while I go and make my dinner. Fairy Ward and Rampart insures that no one will die as long as everyone makes it to round 2, and Low Leverage insures that they can be popped off every turn thanks to Haste World, and with Edea's Absorb P. Attack on, no one needs to have their health micromanaged (side note, there is a weird bug that causes magic attacks to trigger Rampart if you null those attacks. That means if Victoria hits, say, Ringabel while he has a Dark Shield with her attack spells, he becomes wide open to Toxic Whirl. This is why I have Edea Kairai all attacks towards her, even if it doesn't seem necessary).
Clocking in at 26 minutes, this is actually the longest fight in the run. The true final boss fight comes in around 22 minutes, and half of that is just cutscenes.Bravely Default - Team Magic (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2021-04-05 | These guys would do great in no exp runs.

This team has a pretty nasty reputation in normal runs where Firebane can completely wreck whatever prep work you've done, but Absorb Magic once again comes to the rescue with how OP it is. Like the Team Counterattacks fight though, Yulyana will try and pull Reflect shenanigans, so you have to have to pull some BP drink stunts in order to fight this team safely and get the kill in two turns. It meant having to sacrifice Tiz, but that was a cost I was willing to bite.

This time around, we need to take a little consideration in how to attack. Holly is set to cast a full party Reflect on her own team, and then bounce Aerogas off of them, which, unlike regular magic attacks, can't be nullified with Absorb Magic. This means we need to have someone with White Magic on to Dispel a Reflect, which will stop her from bouncing off attacks so as to not damage her own team. Past her, Kamiizumi can screw up our damage output if he uses his magic counter, but that's something you can just brute force until you get it right. 0:00 - Sky Knights: Dead simple, just do magic spam until everyone stops breathing. The only thing to note here is Barras can sometimes Defualt, but he still folds pretty easily.
2:12 - Merchantry: Carbon copy of the Sky Knights, with even less going on.
5:07 - Bloodrose Legion: A huge pain. As mentioned before, Einheria and Artemia can cause a turn one loss, while DeRossa has his annoying Revenge skill, so he doesn't fall to Annihilation. Looking back, there were definitely better strategies I couldv'e used, and I stupidly forgot to make sure Edea buffed herself, but I won anyway, so, eh.
8:32 - The Black Blades: Everyone dies in one turn with enough output, but we need to plan around Kamiizumi, since he only shows up once someone has already died. I opted to have Edea give the damage dealers Big BP Drinks so they could just keep hammering him while she tanks everything with Feel No Pain. Attacking him in turn two is a bit risky, since no-one else had Kairai on them to rederict his counterattacks, but it worked out in the end.
11:35 - The Old Council: Actually pretty fun to fight. Instead of Meteor, I chose to have Tiz buff up Susano'o casters as far as he could, while making sure they had enough turns to do enough damage. This relied on DeRosso using Bone Crush and Yulyana not using Meteor turn one, but the odds are at least decent with this setup.Bravely Default - The Chapter 7 Team Battles (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2021-03-31 | Rules: - The difficulty must be set to Hard for all fights the party participates in. - EXP gain must be turned off (JP gain is still allowed). - Norende must not be developed in any way. I lumped these together as well to try and hurry and get to the gauntlet fights (which is what you all want to see, anyway), but that doesn't mean these fights don't have value on their own
0:00 - Ominas, Heinkel & Barras: Dead easy, at this point we have plenty of Reflect Rings from the Chaugmar fight, and Feel No Pain means Edea can tank everything coming her way. I also steal a Lustrous Shield from Heinkel since it's the strongest type we can get before the final chapter.
4:01 - Praline, Jackal, & Khamer: More of the same honestly, though sometimes Praline can use One More for You which makes Annihilation not connect. Nothing to sweat though.
5:28 - Yulyana, Mephilia, & Barbarossa: As above, with the only change made is Absorb Magic in case of Meteors.
7:37 - The Eternian Girl Power Club: Actually kind of a hassle. Victoria resists Dark so you can't kill her sub two turns, Artemia's Multi-burst can happen adn kill everyone turn one, and Konoe can sometimes Defualt, so you need to use the less powerful Interment over Annihilation to make sure she can be hit. I ran Tiz and Agnes with damage boosts over MP Free to try and maximize my output, but thankfully the fight goes much better once you manage to take out the two Phys attackers.
10:09 - Einheria, Holly, & Khint: Like the last fight, Einheria can end the fight turn one with a party wide attack, and Holly's Defenses are too high to run FNP over Pierce M. Defense, but this one goes much faster if you have the patience to brute force the rng.
11: 34 - Braev, Alternis, & Kamiizumi: Like the Victoria fight, Alternis resists, Dark, and with Braev's Defaults adn Kamiizumi's late arrival, it can be difficult taking them all down without something going wrong. Kairai can redirect the Swordmaster's counterattacks (even though Protect Ally can't, oddly enough), and Braev's weakness to Dark means he takes a ton of damage when he does poke his head out. Just take out the two adults before Alternis starts using Minus Strike and you'll get them eventurally.
14:58 - Victor and DeRosso: The last and worst fight of the chapter. Lester, again, resists Dark and his move set can be extremely lethal, so you can't rely on Arcanist skills to take him down (unless you want to rely on Compounding like some kind of NERD). Meteor will have to do, despite it's damage being RNG (but still better than Susano'o), and I devised a way to make sure a Rampart can get put up enough times to give the party enough time to eek out a win.Bravely Default - Sage Yulyana (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2021-03-30 | Everybody Gangsta till Master Roshi starts flying

His HP just barely too high to take out in below two turns with Low Effort Magic Spam, but his moveset isn't really that threatening. Requires a small amount of lateral thinking. Both Einheria and Artemia can use party wide attacks that insta-kill, so Pierce M. Defense has to be substituted with Feel No Pain. Thankfully, Annihilation get's insanely high damage with very little MP cost, and with the right buffs, we can beat them rather handily.Bravely Default - Chapter 5 (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2021-03-28 | Local Mages Murder Military In Display of Magical Might

This is the part of the run that gets reaaaaally stupid. Now that characters can fit both MP Free and Pierce M. Defense on their support slots, even characters with garbage stats like Tiz now get insanely high damage, causing the advent of what I like to call "Low Effort Magic Spam" (patent pending). Most bosses on the second go-around can get their HP bars melted off in two turns or less, and the ones who can't are still easily beaten with past strategies. Same song and dance as all the other cases. I started with Edea at low health in order to bait DeRosso into doing Bone Crush, which Ringabel can easily survive with the right setup. Other than that, Utsusemi for the win.
This fight does have an interesting quirk though: Bloodthirst counts as a physical move, so it can be evaded with Utsusemi just fine, and triggers Transience. These Dragon mini-bosses get a lot of hype, but they all share the same basic attacks, and with Haste World active, you can cheese them out very easily thanks to the Ninja job. The only "difficulty" is being lucky that Ringabel doesn't die turn one. You can set the fight to Auto and win each fight with no input, but I used Pay to Play and Specials to make them go a little faster. Nothing too extraordinary. He only uses single hit physical attacks, so despite him being able to multi-hit using BP, he gets walled out hard by his daughter even with Full Leverage boosted damage thanks to HP and Defense buffs. It only lasts as long as it does because of his Enduring Soul which gives him a second and third wind. Ninja is, once again, the job to have, but for other reasons than before. These two fight almost exclusively using magic, and you get a ring of Auto Makarakarn from Chaugmar earlier. Thanks to Kairi, you can just knock all of their attacks back at them by forcing them to attack the one with the ring equipped. This fight is just taking advantage of one of the quirks of BD's battle system: if an enemy uses an AOE physical move against a single party member, it counts as a single hit move. As the Ninja has a support ability to counter any single hit physical moves avoided, and a skill that automatically avoids any physical attacks, you are given license to auto your way through the battle. She has two gimmicks: She uses Utsusuemi to dodge and counterattack any physical hit, and a strike that hits at the top of the turn. If you can get Edea enough Defense boosters, she can tank all of the hits while the party hammers her with magic damage. Once I feel like the field is as stable as I could make it, I activate Full Leverage to make the fight go faster.

His main gimmick is that he uses counterattacks that trigger on specific types of damage, which wouldn't be so bad, were it not for the fact that counters don't trigger Knight's Protect Ally ability. So he doesn't just counter any magic damage, you have to take turns away from him in any way you can.
Fortunately, his A.I. has a very exploitable feature: if he detects that someone in the party is dead, he will Brave twice, no exceptions. His attacks have a fair amount of stopping power behind them, so a lot of time has to be spent making sure Edea is able to live through his barrage, but if you're patient, you have this in the bag.Bravely Default - Chaugmar (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2021-02-05 | succ

This method takes a fair amount of prep work but goes by very fast if you know what to do. While the Cacodemon has his purple shield up, his defenses are all 9999, and after he lets the shield drop, he launches a devastating full party attack, so Pierce M. Defense is used to scratch him. Hasten World starts its epic saga by exploiting the A.I. to spam a move that can't kill thanks to Hedge Risk, and we get a taste of the kind of shenanigans Full Leverage can facilitate.
This fight probably could have been done faster by just spamming Turn Toxic, but its a pretty boring strategy to use, we would still need Hasten World, and high level mages with MP Free are just a simpler and more cost effective solution to fights that carries through almost the whole game anyway. His attack pattern is actually a pretty big cause for concern, so it's important to know what it is you're getting into. He has an ability that deals a fixed 1000 damage, which is a guaranteed kill for a no exp party, and on every turn that is a multiple of 4, he will default, and then follow up with two Braves, which he will spend on an attack that deals his missing HP in damage, a basic attack, and Poison Hi-Potion, so it's a guaranteed death to at least two. The method in the video is somewhat dependent on rng and is quite expensive, but it is the fastest one I found.
Godspeed Strike makes it's glorious return and can deal between 7~8k damage. Qada can put Regen on himself, but Rinagebl handily outpaces it, so it's not an issue. Having Tiz tank all of the hits leading up to turn 4 is the most optimal way of doing this fight, as it gives Edea and Agnes the breathing room they need to feed Ringabel that sweet Blue Drank and rebuff him as needed, and by the turn Qada braves, Tiz and Edea can insure that Ringabel and Agnes get the chance to do the last setup needed to bring Qada's HP down to 0.Q U E E NJohhny2020-12-31 | Get ready for the Summoner job to actually be useful

Another easy one, more so from her A.I. than a dev intended(?) exploit. Despite the fat that Praline constantly uses buffs, she's pretty retarded since she doesn't have any attacking skills to back them up with, instead relying on summoned bodyguards to deal damage. The bodyguards don't have much more health than regular encounters, and when Praline realizes both of them are dead, she'll spend her next turn summoning more. On the surface, this fight is completely impossible. Three high HP enemies who each have a strong party wide physical attack that can be used at random, and any damage you do to them can get healed off in an instant. However, in a dev move that I HAVE to believe was intentional, they each carry a high damage Lightning item, and if a thief manages to steal all of them using the skill that doubles the stuff you nab, you get the exact amount of damage you need to drop them in a single go. If it weren't for this, the challenge would likely end here.

The fight explains itself. Barbarossa only uses single hit physical attacks, and while he can be unpredictable with his Brave patterns, all Edea needs is to find an opportunity to get Hedge Risk out once for her to be completely indestructible for the rest of the fight. He can be brought down even faster with Godspeed Strikes, but I didn't feel like putting in the extra work to money grind.

Those familiar with this fight might think that the BP spam here is to avoid Darkflow, which hits the whole party and makes Rusalka clones, but it's actually a move you can easily work around. It has a strange quirk where the max possible damage it can do is a character's current HP, so if you use Hedge Risk to halve it, it can never kill, even if the character is at one hit point.
The actual reason for this strat is because she has a move that inflicts Charm on one party member, and her clones have it as well. This makes the fight a choice between spending money on Ethers so a team with full HP can whittle her down with Zionga spells while fending off constant ailment spam, or spend money on BP Drink so you never have to deal with it. If it weren't for that, this would be a very low effort boss fight./ourguy/Johhny2020-11-30 | Red Mage, more like Red Pilled, am I right fellas?

This is a very tricky fight, which requires a lot of money, specific strategies, and a little luck. You need to get Hedge Risk on your party ASAP, while also using BP Drink to keep Fiore's BP counter at one or higher. This locks his A.I. into a specific attack pattern where he deals damage that can be easily healed off and leaves him at -1 on the counter, which gives us a lot of time to build our game plan. If you don't do this, he will instead hit you with a random assortment of high damage and run ending ailments, and all it takes is two consecutive casts of Charm to wipe out the whole party.
Once the field is stabilized, start buffing up Ringabel so he can do damage with Godspeed Strike, while being sure to keep his BP out of the red. Using the Light Curtain you get from the Land Turtle on Fiore will cause his Curas to bounce off, so he doesn't undo your hard work throughout the fight.
Once he gets below half health, he will replace the Cura with a second Thundara, but by then Ringabel can run him over with consecutive Godspeed Strikes. Your reward for this fight is the Red Mage job, and while it's commands are pretty mediocre, it has some of the best support skills in the game, which are completely required to win against most of the future boss fights.Bravely Default: Einheria Venus (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2020-11-23 | Ringabel's got that Need For Speed

This fight was somewhat obviously designed for the player to use the newly acquired jobs on it, except here both Summoner and Ranger are too expensive to use and offer not enough reward. Instead, Thief Ringabel gets to use Godspeed Strike along with Sword Magic Blizzara to deal a ton of damage in comparatively few strikes. Land Turtle likes to Default a lot and he will spend those BP on Spin attack, which ignores the P.Def stat. For that reason, I had Edea be a Monk this time to squeeze a little extra HP out of her. It isn't showcased in this video, but this fight can be a real pain in the neck. Putting aside the two mooks that she starts the fight with, Artemia herself has a very annoying pattern of randomly choosing between a physical attack that goes through Default, Defaulting to build BP, and unleashing Multi-Burst, a powerful multi-hit attack that is guaranteed to kill anyone with a low P.Def stat. Her attack pattern is very simple, she uses basic attacks most of the time, every third turn she uses Gaea Rage, and starting turn five she will summon Rose Legion foot soldiers, so your goal is to kill her before then.
With all four party members having Black Resonance on, plus the Rods of Fire and the M. Attack boost from the Time Mage job, Tiz, Agnes, and Ringabel are working with a cool 40% damage boost on their Agilaos. Since Mephilia has surprisingly low HP for this point in the game, you have exactly enough firepower to end her in two turns. While you're there, you may as well steal the Rod of Ice off her, since it's pretty good and can't be bought till Grandship. Overall super easy fight, the dungeon getting to her was more challenging.Bravely Default: Eloch Khamer & Ciggma Khint (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2020-11-04 | Ciggma balls.

For this fight, I skipped ahead to Florem, the Land of Thots to pick up some better equipment and spells than what can be bought in Ancheim. You may call that "cheap", I call it "mitigating rng." Khint plays largely the same, though with a propensity to Brave more often, while Khamer is the real nightmare of this fight. His move pool consists of a full party medium strength spell, and a spell that inflicts stop for 1-3 turns on a random party member. He needs to go ASAP, after which the rest of the fight should be simple.
The strategy shown in this video is something dumb I came up with to dab on the A.I. If Khamer starts the fight with Quara, he'll bring the mages to just low enough HP that Edea will automatically defend them from Khint's attacks, after which he'll die from assorted Agilaos. Tiz was weirdly determined to live with around 60 HP, which made him open to get whacked by Khint, but this is an even better power move, as Tiz will automatically revive himself at 1 HP just so he can dab on Ciggma after he reaches half health. In all, definitely the battle I'm most proud of so far.
(This is a stupid and unreliable strategy. It's better to start the fight with the damage dealers at low health and cross your fingers that Khamer starts with either a basic attack or a Stop on Tiz.)Bravely Default: Orthros (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2020-11-02 | Can't believe Square plagiarized SMT, smh.

There's a fair amount of thought that needs to go into this fight if you want to win with shitstats, namely how to deal with the heads. Both of them have a unique gimmick in that if you hit them with the element that they're weak to, they'll "deactivate" and won't use their elemental attacks for three turns. At turn four, they'll reactivate by spewing their signature breath attack, and since you can't resist both fire and water at the same time this early in the game, you need to kill one of the heads ASAP so you can focus on the other. Thief Ringabel can (usually) out speed the heads, so he has deactivation duty. You can steal one heavy damage item and one medium damage item per head, and with the medium damage item you find at Yulyana's hut, you get a nice 3,750 damage right off the bat thanks to Tiz. Dealing the 3,000 remaining damage belongs mostly to Agnes boosted by as many Black Resonance support skills I cared to get, and at the end, you should hopefully have killed the fire head.
Once one head is dead, the other head has a habit of burning all his BP at once, leaving him open to attack. I actually tried for a while to have the other party members live to make the fight go faster, but after multiple atttempts, I threw my hands in the air and had Edea solo the rest of teh battle with Hedge Risk. Thankfully, Vengeance gets a nice healthy 250% damage boost with the other three members dead, so she was more than capable of taking out as much as 1/6th of the boss' HP depending on luck.Bravely Default: Dragon (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2020-10-31 | Yulyana's Dragon Maid.

Those of you who came looking for an interesting fight are probably going to be disappointed. Dragon only uses two attacks, one single target that targets the party member with the lowest HP, and one that hits the party, both of which are physical. Every once in a while, he will Brave and use both, which is the key to winning this fight. The only possible way to live through his attacks is by using the Knight job to get as much P.Def as possible, so if you can live past at least one Brave, you can set up Hedge Risk from the newly acquired Merchant job and be completely safe as long as someone is running healing with Hi-Potions (guess who).
I didn't feel like developing Knight Agnes for this fight since good JP is still hard to get, so I was hoping she could heal everyone after the first wave before she died off. That, uh, didn't happen, but I was able to recover and the fight went smoothly from there. This method is fairly expensive (I lost 2,000 pg in Hedge Risk damage reduction iirc), but it's the most stable one I've found.Bravely Default: Eretus Profiteur (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2020-10-30 | Robber Industry

It's around this point that the challenge really starts to pick up in difficulty, both in the random encounters and the boss fights. In order to win this fight, very specific strats have to be used in order to get around Profiteur's attack pattern. By which I mean you have to plan around Takeover, which deals a fixed 300 damage per use, and is always announced with a Default following a Brave for 600 damage total.
To beat him, get two Black Mages for damage and get them below 20% HP, then get two Knights with sufficient HP as tanks (Ringabel is the best Black Mage in the party, but his high HP pool means he needs to be a Knight for now). Because you don't want to waste MP on attacking Profiteur while he's Defaulting, you need to play a waiting game until he gets ready to use double Takeover. Once he does, have Agnes burn him as much as she can while Tiz heals off the Knights with Hi-Potions, before starting the pattern all over again.
Once Khint pulls his deadbeat dad act for the second time, you don't need to worry about his very scary Sword Magic Fire anymore, which makes the second phase go by twice as fast. After this you get the Merchant Asterisk, which gives some very great abilities for the run.Bravely Default: Jackal (Hard, No EXP/Norende)Johhny2020-10-29 | Master of none

This boss fight is the start of what is going to be a very common sight for this run: Having most of the party start the battle with under 20% HP while a Knight party member defends them with Protect Ally. Normally you want Edea to do this as she has the best P.Def stat of the cast, but I elected to have Tiz do it this time so I can have Monk Edea contribute damage to give the MP stores a rest.
This is a very straightforward fight, both Khint and Jackal only use single target basic attacks, and Khint's are the only one that can deal damage, which can just be healed off anyway. Once Jackal reaches half HP, Khint will do what he does best and abandon the kid to die alone, which takes a lot of weight off the rest of the fight. Other than that, you should enter with no Potions in your inventory, otherwise Jackal will sometimes steal them and use them to heal himself for 500 HP each time.

On lower difficulties this is a meme fight that can be won in two turns or less by getting a full party of Black Mages and making Zio go bzzzt. On Hard he has just enough HP for straight bum-rush tactics to not work, so some dedicated healing helps mitigate his damage, which while single target, does hurt quite a bit. I stupidly kept forgetting to get Ringabel a shield but it didn't matter that much in the end. Overall, nothing that exciting or interesting to talk about.

In contrast to the prior fight, Ominas is actually challenging and fun. He cycles between casting Maragi and status ailments, so it's important to default in order to save up BP for healing and for reducing damage. Tiz and Agnes are on healing duty because their damage output is a joke, while Monk Ringabel and the newly joined Edea (who gets a weirdly great starting katana for this early in the game) serve as damage dealers.
When Ominas hits low HP, he will start using Braves at random intervals, which is your chance to lay down some thick damage afterwards. The first boss fight of the run is one of the most annoying. You have to fight two enemies who can attack for a good chunk of damage in tandem, and you have to use the two physically weakest characters in the party using a job with no offensive capabilities. To deal damage, play defensively with Defaults and healing with either Treat or Potions. After Barras Braves twice, have both Tiz and Agnes dual wield and burn all their BP attacking, before going back on the defensive.
When the bosses reach low health, their patterns change. For Holly, all she does is cast Dia on whosever health is low (Max two or three times), but the first time Barras gets low, he'll start committing Last Resort until either he or the party are dead. Weather the explosions and the battle will end itself as he kills him and his girlfriend for you.
After this you get the Monk and White Mage jobs, which to be fair are pretty good for early random encounters. Not a great start to the run, but it goes up from here.Macca BeamJohhny2020-06-13 | "The Greater Sphere is unusually time consuming to defeat..." - Final Fantasy Wiki

Originally I thought this guy was a flat no-go since he counters every physical attack and magic spell that he isn't weak to with Ultima, and try as I might, I couldn't seem to draw out his magical attacks to at least hit someone with Magic Counter. Then I learned that he counters Special type damage with Hydraulic Press, which is very survivable with the right set-up. Under these rules, the only sources of special damage we have are Lancet and Spare Change, and while the thought of Kimahri sucking a giant ball of water dry is pretty funny, I opted for the less time consuming option.
Greater Sphere has two attacks that he chooses at random on his turns, an undodgeable basic attack that is death to one, and Hydraulic Press, which hits the party for 15/16 of their max HP. This damage counts as physical, so it can be reduced with Protect and defense modifiers (though strangely not Cheer), and the damage can be healed off easily with SOS Regen. The fight is a game of basic turn order management as Rikku tries to squeeze in damage while its safe (when anyone in the party won't die from Press, and when there's at least one extra turn between SC and Sphere's next turn to heal off damage incurred), while Wakka pokes his head out occasionally to fill up the other's MP. Despite the repetitiveness, there's the potential for this fight to get ruined by bad RNG. Yuna and Tidus, despite being fast, need two turn cycles to get over the death delay, so if Greater Sphere decides to get nasty with his basic attack, he can kill the party before they get the chance to recover, which almost happened to me at several points in the fight.
Once Greater Sphere falls to half health, he starts using Hydraulic Press more often than his regular attack, which caused the fight to go much smoother. I was actually lulled into a trance and accidentally killed Yuna at one point because I forgot to check for HP.
Overall, pretty meme fight.WARNING: Taunting Cave Robots May Trigger Gold Experience Requiems AbilityJohhny2020-04-05 | The extra setup was to prove how true this softlock really is. The Defender Z's Blast Punch deals half damage so it can never kill, and it doesn't count as a physical or a magical attack, so Tidus can't retaliate with Caladbolg. It deals a strong delay so two of them firing consecutively means that Tidus can never have a turn even while Hasted, and the Poison and Doom statuses only activate/progress on the inflicted's turn, so Tidus can't even die from passive effects. Quite literally your only hope is to reset the console.
