The Luge (One of the Few Trails Open After the Rain) Quick Loop on E bikes 1/9/23 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2023-01-13 | We had rain for 3 days straight so most trails in OC were closed. This was actually the day that I first saw the bike. I saw some teaser pictures from Spoke X but I didnt see it complete until this day when Javi delivered it to me. I picked the paint out with Element 6. I told them I wanted it to look black but in sun light you would be able to see color shift flakes. They did it better than I could imagined. They even color matched the Forbidden logo to the DVO green perfectly.My plans for the first ride was to shuttle the OC steeps and really push the limits on the bike. Unfortunately there was some heavy rains 2 days earlier and we felt that it was probably muddy so we decided to hit San Juan Train since we knew the dirt there dries super fast and never gets muddy in rain. It was also one of the only trail systems that was open in OC. It was a monday but it was the day after New Years so it was a holiday for most people. The main parking lot was packed. For the first ride I can say that I really like the bike. I really want to hit some legit gnar to see what its really capable of. What I can say is that I absolutely love the way the bike turned out. First Time Riding Bone Shaker (The Gnarliest Trail in Las Vegas) GoPro kept freezing Dec 26, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2023-01-02 | This is Part 2 of my trip to Vegas for Christmas. On Part 1 I went down Bomb Voyage and Bob Gnarly. Both of those trails were fun but I was hoping they were more gnarly. This video is my first ride down Bone Shaker. I heard so many good things about this trail. Bone Shaker was definitely the gnarliest trail in the Cowboy Trail system. It was a dope trail with lots of drops. I was just so frustrated because my GoPro kept turning off. When I wasnt following anyone I would just stop and turn it back on but when I was trying to follow someone and it turned off I would have to take my hand off the bars and turn it back on. This was so frustrating and really dangerous. I almost crashed twice doing it.I have never ridden Bone Shaker so I went on YouTube to find videos. The trail looked dope and I was excited to hit it. The drops were definitely bigger in real life than what I saw on YouTube. I accidently hucked a roller that a local said he has never seen anyone do so that was pretty funny.This trail system is dope and the views are amazing. The climbs are pretty long but most of it is prettly flat. There are a few steep and technical climbs. It was really chill with the E bike. All in all it was a dope trip. Between Cowboy Trails and Bootleg I definitely prefer Bootleg Canyon, the trails are more gnarly. If you go to Las Vegas and want to hit some gnar but Bootleg Canyon is above your pay grade then Cowboy Trails is a perfect spot.
First Time Riding Cowboy Trails (Bomb Voyage & Bob Gnarly) Las Vegas / Red Rock NV / Dec 26, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-12-30 | Every year we take some of our staff to Vegas for Christmas. I normally ride Bootleg Canyon but this year I headed over to Red Rock and hit the Cowboy Trails. I hit the top of Bomb Voyage and to Bob Gnarly. In the next video I hit Bone Shaker which is a much more gnarly trail.There are many trails here but the 3 double black diamond trails are Bob Gnarly, Bomb Voyage and Bone Shaker. Bone Shaker is definitely the gnarliest of them all. The climbs are pretty long, most of it is pretty easy but there are definitely some really steep technical sections that I even struggled with the E bike. In this video I went up 3 climbs; Bunny to Sars to Radio Tower. I then went down Bomb Voyage to Bob Gnarly. That loop was about 7.5 miles. In the next video I go back up the same climb but drop into Bone Shaker. Bomb Voyage and Bob Gnarly are considered double black diamond but I dont think they are that difficult. There are some technical sections, tight switchbacks and some steep loose sections but overall I dont think they are that gnarly. Bone Shaker is definitely more gnarly, it has a lot of drops and rollers and rollers that you can huck as drops.I want to thank everyone that purchased the wind breakers. Bad OTB on One of the Best Trails in SoCal / Trail Maintenance and Mash Day / Dec 19, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-12-26 | We headed out to one of my favorite trails. This trail is usually very loose and dusty during summer and dirt is best during winter. However we had a big rain storm the week before that put big ruts all over the trail. Some berms were also tore up so we filled in some ruts and fixed some berms. There is a new feature where you huck a drop to the left that by passes a rock garden. I have ridden this trail for years and never seen this, apparently this is what some pros are doing so we took it for the first time. Every time I think I hit all the A lines here we will find a more gnarly line. This trail is so sick and is why so many pros practice here.The trail was running so good and I think I got over confident. On one of the laps I was following Kyle, I was falling behind after the log drop and was trying to catch up and went into the first rock garden a little too fast. I lost my front tire and was squirrely into the 2nd gnarly rock garden and was too far to the right. I had a bad pedal strike and got shot off my bike. I went OTB and landed head first. Its actually a miracle I wasn't badly injured. I broke my visor but that was it. Mountain Biking Mt Wilson in Snow Storm / 4,800 ft & 13.5 miles of EXPOSED trails 12/12/2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-12-20 | We got 2 days of rain and in higher elevations we got snow. We knew that most trails were closed due to the rain so we decided to hit Mt Wilson. We checked the weather in Pasadena and it said the rain would stop by 9am. The problem is Mt Wilson is 4800 ft above Pasadena. As we were driving up the mountain we started to see snow every where. That was when we knew we f*cked up. When we got to the top of Mt Lowe and started getting ready a car drove up to us and told us the top was closed and our truck would be towed so since me and Daniel had E bikes we drove the truck down to Red Box and pedaled all the way back up.There was way too much snow to go to Echo Chutes so we took the fire road and dropped into Sam Merrill. It was still snowing on the top of Sam Merrill and as we started to descend the snow turned to sleet then rain. Crank Brothers Laguna Headquarter Tour and Ride / Testing Stamp Lace Flat Shoes / Dec 9, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-12-15 | I headed over to the Crank Brothers Headquarters and got to meet all the rad staff. Joe and AJ went over all the Crank Brother Products and Gas the CEO gave me the tour. I got to meet Carl the Co Founder of Crank Brothers. The one thing that really stood out to me is how much love everyone has for bikes. They are so lucky that their office is at the base of one of the best places to ride in the world. After the tour we headed out to Laguna and hit some laps. I got a pair of the Stamp Lace Flat shoes. In my opinion they are the best looking mountain bike shoes but surprisingly they stuck on the pedals good. I would say they are not as sticky as the 5 Tens but they grip much better than the Ride Concepts I recently. bought. I will mess around with some pins to see if I can get better grip.
This ride is for you Dad OC Steeps Shuttle Day / Dec 5, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-12-10 | My Father in Law passed away on Sunday Dec 4th. It was something that we have been expecting for a few months now so I am grateful we were able to say our good byes. My wife understood that I needed to get on the bike to relieve my stress and pain. I am so grateful I found mountain biking, when I was younger I didn't know how to release stress and anger so most of the time it was released with violence. It was hard losing my Father in Law but I know he's in a better place. This ride was for my Dad.
Element 6 Custom Color Shift Paint Full Process (Disassemble, Sanding, Paint, & Assembly) Yeti SB165 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-12-06 | I got my Yeti SB165 Custom Painted by Element 6. I chose a chameleon paint that color shifts from purple to green and I was blown away at how amazing it looks. Element 6 specializes in carbon repair and custom painting for all Bikes (Mountain Bikes, Road bikes, Dirt Jumpers, etc) There is so much work that goes into a quality custom paint job so I wanted to put together a quick video to showcase their process. I had Element 6 disassemble and reassemble my bike but if you want to save $300 just send them your frame. After disassembly they hand sand the frame fix any scratches nicks and repair any damaged carbon, the next step is paint. They put a primer base coat, paint then dry, after its cured they put a clear coat and cure. The last step is to reassemble the bike. Putting my ribs to the test down some Steeps / Riding YT Decoy / 11/28/22 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-12-01 | I broke my ribs 3 weeks ago, I took 2 weeks off the bike and did a mellow ride when I picked up the Yeti from Element 6. I still had some pain when making right to left turns but surprisingly I was able to ride chunk and take some jumps without too much pain. I wanted to test the ribs on more gnarly trails so we went down some steeps. Physically I was fine but mentally I was still very timid. I was really scared to crash and hurt my ribs. The first 3 trails I felt uncomfortable since it was only my 2nd time down the first 2 trails and it was my first time riding trail 3. It was loose and I kept fearing my front would wash out and I would slam my ribs. As the day went on and I started riding the trails that I was more familiar with I definitely got more confidence. It was a fun ride and I am happy I pushed myself.
I got my Yeti SB165 custom painted by Element 6 w/color shift (chameleon) / First Ride / 11/21/22 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-11-28 | I met Arnold and Irvin from Element 6 at my restaurant. They are mountain bikers and own a Carbon Repair and Custom Paint shop. They picked up my bike a couple days after I broke my ribs. We decided on a color shift (green to purple) paint for my bike. They were able to get my bike custom painted in only 2 weeks. They purposely didn't send me pictures so I could see it in real life. I had seen pictures of other bikes that they have painted so I knew that it was going to be nice but I was so blown away at how nice it came out. The color shift is unreal depending on the angle that you look at the paint it will shift from purple to orange to copper to green and everything in between. After picking up the bike we went for a ride at the Ranch. It was my first time riding with the busted ribs. I was really nervous about crashing, not only hurting my ribs but also I didnt want to scratch my paint.
I went OTB & busted my ribs / Secret Trail Part 2 / Nov 7, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-11-21 | This is part 2 of my ride on a secret trail in SoCal. Part 1 was on Trail 1 and this video is our ride down trail 2. This trail is more tech and it seemed like it hasnt been ridden in over a year. I went down on a tight switchback, went OTB and did a full somersault. In the process I slammed my ribs on a boulder. I didnt get x rays but I have broken my ribs 2 other times so I know the feeling. The hospital cant do anything other then give you x rays, confirm that its broken and give you a fat bill. I will have been doing rehab every day and will be back on the bike soon.
Shuttle Day Down Gnarly Secret DH Trail / Shuttle Day / Nov 7, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-11-15 | I have hit this trail 1 other time about 2 years ago, I had pretty bad crash on the rock garden chute and struggled on it all day. I have always wanted to come back for redemption but this trail is a pretty far drive. I was stoked to be able to clean the chute this time but this trail is more gnarly than I was expecting. We went right before the rain so the trail was still blown out. This is Part 1 of the day which is 2 lap on Trail 1. On Part 2 we go down Trail 2 which is a more gnarly and tech trail. Unfortunately half way down I had a big crash and broke my ribs. Part 2 will drop next week.
Switching from Shimano to SRAM Drivetrain for the first time. Aliso Woods Pedal Day / Nov 6, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-11-11 | I've had Shimano drive trains on all of my bikes. I've always liked them but I am switching to SRAM for the first time. I built my Yeti SB165 with XTR drivetrain. Looking back I think this was a mistake. XTR is super smooth and light but its just not robust enough for the type of riding I do. I broke a total of 3 derailleurs and this 3rd one was rebuilt twice by Spoke X because it was impossible to find any Shimano parts during the pandemic. Since I knew my entire drivetrain needed to be replaced I decided to make the switch over to SRAM. I got full GX derailleur, shifter, cassette and chain. From what everyone told me it was the best bang for the buck. I guess I wasn't expecting it to be super smooth since it wasn't the top of the line XO1 or XX1 but I was blown away at how smooth and easy shifting is. My XTR drivetrain was so beat up anything would've been better but I was so surprised at how smooth and quite the SRAM GX drivetrain was. One thing that I really miss about Shimano is the trigger, but Im sure I'll get used to shifting without it.I was on a really tight schedule so we just hit 5 Oaks, Rock It and Lynx. Its been a while since I took the Yeti on a pedal day so I was nervous on the climbs but surprisingly my legs made it.
Can my E Bike handle some Gnar? YT Decoy vs OC Steeps / Progressive vs Linear Coil / Oct 31, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-11-07 | Javi still had my Yeti so I took the Decoy out to hit the steeps. Some of these trails I hit a bunch of times but it was the first time riding down them on the Decoy. I was a little nervous because I'm not as comfortable on the E bike on really gnarly trails. The Decoy definitely handles chunk and steep really good but then it comes to really steep loose conditions with drops the Decoy is a bit sketchy due to its weight for me. I recently changed out my progressive coil for a straight rate coil. I was actually surprised at how much better the bike felt. With the progressive coil I felt as if the bike would ramp up too much on big hits and the bike would shoot out in front of me. When I rode it for the first time at Santiago Oaks with a straight rate coil I was actually surprised how noticeable it was. I really wanted to test it on more gnarly trails so this loop would definitely put it to the test. After riding these trails with the straight rate I can say that the Decoy feels way better with the straight rate spring. This is how I feel it may be different for other riders. I can say that the Decoy felt amazing on fast and chunky trails with the progressive coil but when it came to big drops or jumps I felt that it just ramped up to hard for me.It was also my first time riding the Ride Concept Powerline shoes and I was pretty disappointed with the grip. Several times my foot came off the pedal. The Five Ten rubber definitely sticks better. I know a few friends with Ride Concepts and love them so I might try some different pins and see if it helps.

Smash Testing Spoke X Carbon wheels with 15 PSI on E Bike / Greer Ranch on E Bikes / Oct 24, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-10-27 | Its been a few months since I rode Greer. It gets really hot during the summer so I tend to avoid it during those months. It finally cooled down so we decided to go there. I rode with Javi from spoke X and Jay from Norco. I dropped my Yeti with Javi who will be replacing my drivetrain and taking my bike apart and servicing it. Jay is the rep from Norco and I met him at my restaurant. He is from Northern Cali and hasn't ridden SoCal. I originally planned to take him down some steeps but last min we changed plans to go to Greer. I was on limited time since I had to get back to Yorba Linda to pick up my daughter from school. Jay set Javi up on an E bike so we all had E bikes. It was a fun ride we got in a ton of runs.
Getting More Comfortable Jumping my E Bike. San Clemente Jumpline with YT Decoy / Oct 17, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-10-24 | Im not that comfortable jumping on my YT Decoy. I dont think its just the weight but its also because its very progressive. The Decoy is a very progressive bike and I also put on a progressive spring on it. It feels amazing on chunk but when taking big hits it ramps up really hard and shoots the bike from under me. DVO suggested that I try a straight rate spring. It has been shipped to me but I didn't receive it yet. There are a ton of jumps here and I definitely felt more comfortable as the day went on. Snow Valley Bike Park is Legit! Jumpline Gaps are BIG! SoCals Most Underrated Bike Park / 10/16/22 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-10-20 | Snow Valley Bike Park is the last Bike Park open in California. They will close the bike park on Oct 30th so I was stoked I got the Hall Pass to head up to Snow Valley with Kyle. I normally cant ride weekends due to the restaurant but since his wife was due to have a baby any day now my wife was cool with holding down the fort without me (until it got busy and she got pissed I wasnt there). It was just me and Kyle and we got in 15 chair lifts! I always have a good time riding at Snow Valley but never get to come up because they are only open Friday Saturday and Sunday. I am always blown away that there are rarely any lines. If I was only able to ride weekends I would definitely rather ride Snow Valley than stand in those long lines at Snow Summit. I normally ride when my restaurant is closed (Monday and Tuesday) and unfortunately Snow Valley is closed on those days. I was stoked I was able to get a ride in on a Sunday before they close for the season on October 30. I was only able to go one other time this season when they first opened. Unfortunately they had the jumpline closed in the morning due to wind gusts. The dirt was amazing from the rain the rolled in the day before. Going BIG! Closing Weekend at Snow Summit Bike Park / Last Laps of the Season / Oct 7, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-10-13 | This season flew by too fast. The fires that shut down the park for a couple weeks didn't help. I have been riding opening and closing day for the past few years but going the previous weekend and seeing how crowded it was I knew it was going to be be way worse on closing day. I decided to head up on Friday instead and I think I made the right decision.We have been riding the park on Mondays all season. We never really had to stand in line so this day was definitely more crowded than what we are used to but it was nothing like it was on closing day. A few of my friends sent me videos and pictures of the line so I am happy I went on Friday instead. I had to leave by 1pm because I needed to get back shower and go work at the restaurant. I was surprised I was still able to get in 8 laps in just 3 hours. It was a rad day and the perfect way to close the season. I was really stoked and surprised that I had zero injuries no real crashes just some minor wash outs. It was cool to follow Cole and Zoe down and its been awesome meeting so many riders this season. Crashing is Part of Riding! Aliso Woods w/Mo and Hannah (5 Oaks, Rock It, Car Wreck & Lynx) 10/3/22 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-10-10 | Mo and Hannah just flew back in from Mexico. They just got their new bikes and wanted to take them out for a spin. We did my favorite loop (5 Oaks, Rock It, Car Wreck and Lynx). IIt was also Kyle's first ride back since his big crash at snow Summit where I had to help him pop his shoulder back in. It was a bad day for Kasey he was flying down Rock It and ate it on the rock garden its a place that no body wants to crash. Luckily he wasnt seriously hurt and continued the ride. He wasn't 100% mentally and went down on the rock garden on Car Wreck. Shuttle Day / Loose + Steep + Ruts = Gnarly AF / Secret Trail / Sep 26, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-10-03 | We headed up the mountains to shuttle one of my favorite trails. There were some big rain storms a couple weeks prior so I was really hoping for some hero dirt. Unfortunately there wasn't any. There was so much rain that it created ruts all over the trail, it also exposed tons of boulders. The last time we rode here it was super dry with about 2-3 inches of dirt powder, this day the powder 3 inches of powder was gone so it wasnt so dusty but there was a very thin layer of loose sand over hard pack and on top of that there were giant ruts all over the trail. On the 2nd lap we cleaned up some of the major ruts on the trail so it helped a lot. We were only able to squeeze in 3 runs due to all the filming and trail maintenance but still had a blast. My bike was running so good. Riding E Bikes Down Some Legit Gnar / Simi Valley DH Trails / Sep 25, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-09-29 | Its been a few months since I've ridden Simi Valley. Its been well over 100 degrees out there all summer and it finally cooled down a bit so I headed out there. I had to get to the restaurant before lunch rush so we started our ride early which was also much cooler.I met up with all my boys from the Valley this is their local spot so they showed me a bunch of different trails then what we normally hit. It was a good time but I definitely felt a little out of control on the Decoy. It is very progressive and it works great on the steep, loose and tech stuff that I ride in OC but on the chunk and multiple drops at Simi I kept feeling the bike pulling away from me. Its hard to explain but after each drop the bike pushes out forward unlike my Yeti where I feel like it sucks up the hits. Its usually not that big of a deal but in Simi there are so many back to back drops that sometimes Im not able to get my body and weight back over my bike and feel like I'm just holding on for dear life. I might need to make some adjustments to rebound or compression the next time I ride there to see if it helps. Pedal Day in Paradise with Yeti SB165 / Sep 18, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-09-23 | Sorry for the late upload, this video was meant to drop this morning but I uploaded the wrong video late last night. I deleted it this morning and had to upload this video.We headed out to ride some of the steeps that are not accessible by shuttle. These trails are so fun but require a ton of pedaling to get to them. Since getting the Decoy I would normally take it to hit these trails but since it was only my and Kasey and he didnt have an ebike I decided to my Yeti and pedal with him. The weather cooled down a lot so I figured it wouldnt be so bad. I was on a limited time because I had to get back to the restaurant before it got busy so the loop we decided to hit was only 3 trails. It was a super fun loop and climbing without the E bike wasnt as bad as I thought.
Shuttle Day / OC Steeps with a little bit of rain / Sep 12, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-09-19 | We finally got a little bit of rain. It was less than .25" but it was something. Its been such a hot and dry summer and all of the trails have been so blown out. We were so stoked we got something, I honestly thought the rain wouldve made a much bigger difference. The trails were all really loose.
9/11 Memorial Ride at The Luge (OCs Best Flow Trail) with YT Decoy / Sep 11, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-09-15 | My restaurant was broken into on Thursday and I really wanted to let off some steam. I only had a couple hours to ride before going into the restaurant so I decided to ride the Luge with Kasey. He only lives 5 min away and I knew he was going to be fast but I was blown away at how he bombed it. I basically wasn't able to keep up. I took the Decoy to get up the mountain faster, I pushed Kasey up all the steep sections and we got up to the trailhead really quick. It was a solid ride I never thought the Luge was worth it due to the climb but on the E Bike it makes it so easy.
Radford Fire Shuts Down Snow Summit. Is this the last day of the Bike Park? Labor Day Shred 9/5/22 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-09-12 | We headed up to Snow Summit for Labor Day. We were expecting big lines but there wasnt alot of people. We met and rode with alot of young riders and it was so cool to see how good these kids are.Unfortunately on the last lap a fire started near by. The ended up shutting down the lifts around 2pm so we left early. At the time we did know how serious it was because we didnt see or smell any smoke. Unfortunately due to the high heat and winds the Radford fire burned out of control. On the way down the mountain we saw tons of fire trucks heading up. Luckily 4 days after the fire started we got some rain which helped fight the fire. As of today Sep 11th, the fire is now 65% contained and still burning. Snow Summit is still at risk from burning down but there are tons of units up there protecting it.
Wreckless Riding Snow Summit Bike Park / Riding with a Leaking Rear Tire / Aug 27, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-09-05 | We headed up to Snow Summit to take some laps. Had a solid crew and took a ton of laps. I had a bunch of issues with my rear tire. I got a pinch flat last week that damaged my sidewall and wouldnt seal so i put on a new rear tire. I assume in the process the shop my have damaged my rim tape because my tire had a slow leak. It was coming from my spokes so I knew it was the rim tape. The bike shop at Snow Summit said they wouldnt be able to get to it for 1 hr so I didnt want to sit around and wait so I decided to pump my tire up really high and take a run as fast as possible before my tire goes flat. This wasn't the best idea but I got away with it.
Can an E Bike Handle Legit Gnarly Trails? (Taking my YT Decoy Down Steep, Loose and Tech Trails) Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-09-01 | I custom built my YT Decoy up about 4 months ago to ride it on "pedal days". I ride my Yeti SB165 on shuttle and park days. I've been riding a ton of park all summer so I havent ridden the E bike as much. I have taken the Decoy down some gnar in OC and Simi but I have never felt as confident on drops and really steep loose trails. The bike is really front heavy so on drops the front end tends to dive on me. On the steep and loose stuff the bike is really hard to turn and slow down. Because of this there are certain trails that I have not taken the Decoy down because this time of year it is extremely loose.On this ride I decided to test it out and see how it handles. Kyle also has a Decoy and we have both ridden our Ebikes down trail 1 and 3 a few months ago when the conditions were not this bad. Right now it is extremely loose and these trails are steep. The E bikes are heavy so it makes breaking and turning really difficult. On trail 2 there is a big huck and we both have done it on our enduro bikes but not on our E bikes so it was a first for us. We were both really surprised at how the bike handled the drop. I remember test riding E bikes when 5 years ago and hated the way they jumped and handled. So much has changed in the past couple years and these modern E bikes are getting better every year. I really stoked on the Decoy.
The Man-which Getting Kasey to Pop Large Marges Cherry / Aug 22, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-08-29 | It was a goal for Kasey to clear Large Marge before the season ended. It was the last feature on Party Wave to Westridge that he hasnt been able to clear yet. Every time we go to hit he touches his brakes at the last second and comes up short. So we decided that we would Man-which him. Daniel would tow him in and I would be right behind him to force him not to touch his brakes. The Man-which worked! Kasey sent it without touching his brakes and cleared Large Marge.
Ladies Only Jumpline / My first time hitting this hidden jumpline / Aug 21, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-08-25 | I've been invited to hit this hidden jumpline so many times but I always decided to hit something else. Lately the trail builders have been adding so many features and making everything a lot bigger. I finally decided to check it out and it honestly was way better than I expected. The jumps were all built really well and the climb up is really easy. Although a lot of people were on E bikes I did 10 laps on my Yeti and could have easily done 10 more if I didn't have to go to the restaurant. It was really cool to get towed into every feature by the locals. They are continuing to build more so I cant wait to go back. Unfortunately this land has already been sold to a developer so the rumor is the builders will be coming in and building homes here next year. I hope thats not true.Some locals say its not a secret and others say it is. So just out of respect for the trail builders I wont disclose the location.
Getting Spanked at Snow Summit / Party Wave, Westridge, Miracle Mile and 10 Ply / Aug 15, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-08-22 | We headed up to Snow Summit with the boys, I was really surprised at how quickly the conditions dried up from the week before. We got a ton of rain at the beginning of the month but it was already dried by the time we got there. We got in a ton of laps there were no lines all day but for some reason there was a huge line at 2pm so we decided to end the day early.
Pedaling OC Steeps / Yoshimura Chilao Pedals Upgrade on the Yeti SB165 / Aug 14, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-08-18 | My Father in Law is still going to dialysis 3 times a week so I'm dont always get to ride twice a week. This day I was able to sneak out for a quick loop before lunch rush. I headed out to hit some steeps in OC. These trails are sick but not accessible by shuttle so we have to climb. I would normally take the E bike on this loop but decided to take my Yeti since Kasey isnt on an E bike. It was really hot and I havent pedaled this bike very much since getting the E bike so I was a little worried about my conditioning. It was a dope ride we hit 3 trails, all of them are dope and are extra spicy right now because the dirt is so loose and dry. Some parts is just straight powder. To my surprise I was able to make it up all the climbs. I didnt cramp up at all.
Mountain Biking Running Springs Secret Trail / Two GoPro POVs / Aug 9, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-08-15 | We rode down a secret trail in Running Springs. I haven't hit this trail since last year so we wanted to hit it hoping the recent rains would make for some good dirt. Unfortunately it was dry and loose so it must have not gotten too much rain.We had a solid crew, it was a 6 man Party Train lead by Chris, followed by me (POV 1: GoPro 10), Daniel, Sean (POV 2: GoPro 10), George and Kasey. The trail was dry and loose but we had a blast down it.
Wreckless Riders Mobbin Snow Summit / Aug 8, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-08-12 | We headed back to Snow Summit to smash in some laps. Big Bear got a ton of rain a few days prior and we hoping for some prime hero dirt but unfortunately most of it dried up. The dirt was pretty much dry and loose again. We had a solid crew: Big Booty Chris, Daniel, George, Kasey and Sean. We basically did back to back laps all day before the thunderstorm moved in. We finished around 2pm and took off before traffic.

Aug 1, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-08-08 | Since there were thunder storms at Snow Summit we knew the lifts would be shut down so we decided to hit a secret trail instead. We were hoping they got some rain recently but if they did it was all dried up. The conditions were as loose and dry as ever. This is already a gnarly trail but with these conditions it was way worse. There were tons of carnage. So sit back relax and enjoy 19 min of straight carnage!
Santiago Oaks with the E Bike (I forgot to charge my bike again) July 31, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-08-05 | I try to squeeze as much into my day as possible. This is also true when I ride, I try to squeeze in another lap when I know I will probably be late to work. The last 2 times I rode my Decoy I was running late so I just put it in my garage showered and headed to the restaurant. Charging the bike never crossed my mind. This was the 3rd ride I had on this bike without a charge so when I turned it on I only had 3 bars (which was actually only 2.5 bars because I lost the 3rd bar at the beginning of the ride). I also moved the first week of July and still have not unpacked all my boxes. My charger is in a box in my gargage somewhere.I wasnt nervous when I saw that I had 3 bars but as soon as it dropped to 2 bars after the first climb I knew I was in trouble. I normally ride the bike on Eco but that first ride I had it on Trail mode so I it used more juice. towards the middle of the ride I only had 1 bar left and I started to get pretty stressed out. I know I could pedal the Decoy if I had to but I was more concerned about how long it would take becuase I had to get back to the restaurant. I finished the ride with only 1 mile left. It was stressful but I made it. When I got home I made it a point to find my charger it took me about 30 min but I finally found it. I felt bad I was so late since the restaurant was really full. Later that day a customer told us that we won "Best Vietnamese Restaurant in Orange County" in the LA Times. This was a huge accomplishment for us because OC has the most Vietnamese restaurants in the world outside of Vietnam!
Riding Park in the Rain / Thunder Storms at Snow Summit Bike Park / July 25, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-08-01 | Forecast called for thunder storms and rain by noon in big bear so we wanted to get up there to get in as many laps as possible before they shut the lifts down. When the chairs opened at 10am it was sunny so we didn't think the rain would drop til after 2pm. But the forecast was pretty spot on, right at noon thunder started striking. The rule is if there is thunder within 6 miles of the park the chair lifts will be shut down for 15 min. Each time there is thunder the timer will start over.We spoke to the Snow Summit staff at the top once we heard the thunder and they told us the lighting was 6.8 miles away and as soon as one strikes within 6 miles they would shut the lifts down. So we decided to try to race down and get back on the lift before the storm moves within 6 miles. Unfortunately we didnt make it in time and the lifts were shut as soon as we got to the bottom. We waited for about 20 min before they opened the lifts back up. We got really lucky because more lightning struck within 6 miles and they stopped the lift again. We were actually the last riders that they let on the lift. We knew it was probably our last run since we didnt expect the lifts to re open so we decided to set up some cameras and session some jumps. We hit Muscle Beach a few times and then moved down to the bridge to set up the cameras and thats when it started dumping on us. We were soaked by the time we got to the bottom but we had a blast.
Aliso Woods with Mo and Hannah / Im going Full XC / July 24, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-07-28 | Mo and Hannah just flew back to Cali from Kentucky. They are heading out to Mexico next week so we decided to get in a ride before they left. Kasey and Blair joined us as well. It was my first time pedaling in a few months and I was actually surprised I didn't cramp up. My father in law went back in the hospital a couple days ago but was expected to be discharged today so I was able to squeeze in a ride. We hit 5 Oaks, Rock It and Lynx, it was a fun ride.
Rolling Deep at Snow Summit Bike Park / Big Booty Chris and Georgie Pooh is back / July 18, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-07-25 | We headed out to Snow Summit for another day at the bike park. We rolled 8 deep and hit back to back runs. There were no lines so I was able to get in a ton of runs and leave by 2pm to beat traffic. It was a sick day I finally got to hit the park with Big Booty Chris. He has been busy with work so havent been able to ride. I was also stoked that Georgie Pooh moved back to Cali from Utah and joined us as well. Unfortunately there was some sort of pipe burst on upper Miracle Mile so the it was closed from the top. Conditions are already getting blown out, hoping to get in some July rains.
The Luge (OCs best FLOW trail) Perfect spot for a quick loop on an E bike / July 17, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-07-21 | I rode the Luge a few times when I first started riding but stopped riding there for about 6 years because I just felt the climb wasn't worth the DH. The trail is really fun but the climb is just horrible. The Luge is fun but not my favorite style of riding. I prefer steep, tech and chunky trails and the Luge is flowy. A couple months ago we rode Joplin and ended on the Luge. I forgot how fun that trail was.Now that I have an E bike the Luge was one of those spots that I knew I would ride more since the climb was the main reason why I didn't like to ride there. We have to take my Father in Law to Dialysis 3 times a week so I have only been able to ride once a week. I figured with the Decoy I would be able to loop the Luge in the morning and would be able to make it back to the restaurant before we opened for lunch. Conner doesn't have an E bike so I had to push him up but we were still able to do the loop in about 30 min. I was able to get home shower and get back to the restaurant before our lunch rush. I am hoping to get out on a quick 2nd ride each week with the E bike more often.
Snow Summit Bike Park (Trying to get 10 Ply dialed) July 11, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-07-18 | I have only been able to get in 1 ride a week with everything going on. I just moved into my new house and still unpacking. On top of that my father in law had a heart attack 3 weeks ago and just released from the hospital. My wife and I have been taking him to dialysis twice a week so its very difficult for me to ride.With only being able to ride once a week, no better place to go than the bike park to get in a shit load of laps. We mixed it up between Party Wave, Westridge, Miracle Mile and 10 Ply but we spent more time on 10 Ply to get the trail dialed. It is so blown out right now so we are trying to figure out the best line down the rock garden.
July 4th Weekend / Snow Summit Bike Park (Party Wave, Westridge, Miracle Mile & 10 Ply) Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-07-13 | I was so stoked to head back up to Snow Summit. I haven't been back since opening day. I have been so busy with getting the new home ready to move in I havent been able to ride as much. We decided to roll up on the 5th of July because we knew that there wouldn't be very many people there. We didnt have to wait in line at all and we were able to get in 11 laps. It was definitely a rad day. It was just me Kyle and Kasey so we got in tons of laps and we had a blast.
Back on the bike after 2 week break / Dirt Surfing in OC / Shuttle Day / Jun 28, 2022 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2022-07-06 | I have been slammed with the new house. I only had 8 weeks to completely remodel my entire house. We basically tore down the entire house, we knocked down walls, moved gas lines and water pipes, broke concrete, moved beams and headers, got all new windows and doors. Remodeled the kitchen, all 3 bathrooms, paint inside and outside of the house and got new floors. Most people didn't think it was possible but somehow I managed to get everything done on time. The last 2 weeks were brutal there were tons of hurdles and set backs. I was only getting 3-4 hrs of sleep each night so I took a break from riding for those 2 weeks.I moved in the day before and decided I needed to reward myself with a ride. The first ride back was originally planned for Snow Summit but there was no way I was going to be able to be gone all day while I still had to unpack. We decided to stay local and shuttle some steeps. It was a rowdy ass day, the trails are so loose right now and some sections have absolutely no grip.I went down a bunch of times but luckily no injuries. It was a sick ride I was just so stoked to be back on the bike again.
