Vintage railway film - The Fell Locomotive - Shell Historical Film Archive - 1951 Bennett Brook Railway 2024-04-14 | This film introduces the innovative Fell Locomotive, a diesel-powered train with a unique transmission design. In 1951, this locomotive, named after its designer Colonel Fell, emerged as a new approach to main-line traction. The Fell Locomotive, on the other hand, employs a direct diesel engine with a novel transmission system inspired by a car's differential. It uses three differentials connected to four engines. Initially, only one engine is engaged, with a 4:1 gear ratio for smooth starting. As speed increases, additional engines are activated, resulting in a seamless transition through all speeds, achieving a final ratio of 1:1 with all four engines running.

Crowds pay their respects to the Flying Scotsman's last departure from Kings Cross as it is replaced by a 33-horsepower diesel. The network is being modernised by new signalling, longer continuous track on concrete sleepers and flyovers, and controversial closures of lines.

Hotham Valley Railway - Last day of Steam Ranger service for the 2023 steam season. Bennett Brook Railway 2023-11-30 | Hotham Valley Railway, located in Dwellingup, Western Australia, runs a steam-hauled service, called Steam Ranger, over the cooler months of the year. This video shows one of the steam-hauled services from Isandra siding to Dwellingup, on the last day of steam operations at Hotham Valley for steam season 2023.The day this video was filmed, there was light rain just before the steep climb up the grade, causing a lot of slipping of the steam loco, which can be heard on the video.

Vintage railway footage - Decades of steam - 1940s Bennett Brook Railway 2023-10-08 | In this archive film programme, the story of steam locomotives is taken through the end of independence into the early days of Nationalisation.The first half of the decade saw the railways at the forefront of the war effort, from which the black-painted steam locomotives emerged bloodied but unbowed, still the principal power force on the railways.Nationalisation in 1948 was to see a unified system, with locomotives straying to lines away from their traditional haunts. We see them on trial and bearing their new owner's name in full - 'British Railways'. Postwar types such as Ivatt tanks and Moguls, ex-GWR 'Modified Halls', ex-LNER Peppercorn-designed Pacifics and Thompson 'B1s' are seen alongside the prewar survivors, and, most radical of all, the Bulleid Pacifics of the Southern.

Viewed under repair and test conditions are Class 20, 37, 47, HSTs etc.Together with the sequence of component refurbishment, the degree and depth of services offered by ADtranz is shown in detail.Rare archive film from the 1930s to the 1960s displays locomotives under construction and repair.
