The Wheel of Consent is a model of consent based on, but not requiring, exchanges of touch. The Wheel notes the distinction between the ‘doing’ aspect of the touch dynamic — who is doing — and the ‘gift’ aspect — who it is for.
For example, you may be touching another person for their enjoyment, or you may be touching them for your own enjoyment. Both of those dynamics are welcome and needed in different situations, and once the distinction is clear, the entire touch dynamic becomes clear, which brings ease, confidence, self-responsibility and freedom to the interaction.
When the dynamics are clear, it becomes apparent how they apply to both touch and non-touch dynamics. Indeed, the application to non-touch dynamics may be of greater import.

Betty Martin and Marcia Baczynski have been learning and teaching consent together for over 16 years. They met through Cuddle Party (a consent workshop) and cheered each other on in the development of their own work - Betty’s Wheel of Consent, and Marcia’s Asking for What You Want. And now they have written their own books, which they will read from!
Marcia’s Creating Consent Culture simply and clearly describes what consent is, including clarifying some misconceptions, and outlines a 3 hour workshop for youth and teens. Co-authored with Erica Scott. Marcia Baczynski is an internationally-recognized speaker, writer, coach and expert on sexual communication, relationships and consent. Her primary mission is to help adults to overcome shame and get in touch with what they truly want – romantically, sexually and relationally – even if it’s off the beaten path
Betty’s The Art of Receiving and Giving: the Wheel of Consent re-defines receiving and giving and shows you how to fall in love with both of them, completely and equally. The Wheel of Consent has been called the most important and cutting-edge model for these times. Dr. Betty Martin has had her hands on people professionally for over 40 years, first as a Chiropractor and upon retiring from that practice, as a certified Surrogate Partner, Sacred Intimate, and Somatic Sex Educator. Her explorations in somatic-based therapy and practices informed her creation of the framework, The Wheel of Consent®.
Together these two insightful books open up new understandings of consent, how to use it, and what it makes possible in your life.Finding Generosity: The Wheel of Consent. About the Book Why would most people endure unwanted or unsatisfying touch, rather than speak up for their own boundaries and desires? This is the question that Betty Martin has explored in her 40+ years as a hands-on practitioner - first as a chiropractor and later as a Somatic Sex Educator, Certified Surrogate Partner and Sacred Intimate. In her framework, “The Wheel of Consent®”, Betty traces the fundamental roots of consent to our own bodies, how we learned to ignore our own desires and needs, and the harm caused when we do not honor our own limits or the limits of others. In a world where the #MeToo movement sheds light on boundary violations, the Wheel of Consent offers a deeply nuanced and precise way to practice consent as an agreement that brings integrity, responsibility, and joy into every interaction.
