Setting off from Glenriding making my way to Birkhouse Moor it’s a great viewing spot to watch the sunrise. There was a couple of tents up with people watching the sun rise from behind the far fells so I headed straight to Striding edge . Hallin Fell Wild camp Gareth Richardson 2023-05-29 | Wild camping with the better half !! With over 6 months in the planning we finally got our chance to have our first wild camp , waiting for the tent and other things got in the way and a welcomed break in the weather it was on . Having already chose our destination well in advance driving over the A66 I received a notification (amber alert for the aroura) and our plan had changed , we did some quick research for a possible chance of a sight at what I’ve dreamed of seeing . Hallin Fell was our new destination with only summited the fell a couple of weeks previous with the kids we had familiarised ourselves with the route we’d take . The weather was perfect so I located a pitch right below the summit cairn having settled the night was set only to watch the clouds roll in having that we settled down what was a great night for a wild camp no wind and no rain .On waking the following morning I noticed we’d woken up in the clouds of a temperature inversion (wish we’d camped a couple hundred meters higher) so sent the drone through the clouds to catch some footage of the clear skies above, the views above did not disappoint so I included the footage in the video . Crinkle Crags Wildcamp with Views of the Scafell Range Gareth Richardson 2023-04-17 | With the Crinkle Crags hike still fresh in my mind I came across a beautiful spot to Wildcamp looking across to the Scafell range .What a slog it was !! I parked in the Sticklebarn car park and made way towards Stool End Farm with the Crinkles in my view I started to plan my accent with my heavy pack I knew it wasn’t going to be easy so I decided to hike towards Whorneyside Force (if only I knew ) . Make my way along side Oxendale Beck I’ve been to Whorneyside Force before but never past that and after that really took its toll on my legs it was a really steep accent after the waterfall wish I choose The Band route towards Bowfell . Once I got to the top things levelled out and I could see where I was wanting to camp with the Scafell views in my mind it gave me the strength to give it that finally push and before I knew it I made it to my location . With the sun on my face erecting the tent was easy and so I settled down to capture the whole experience .Followed by a perfect sunset and a stunning sun rise I could ask for nothing more . Crinkle Crags Hiking the Wainwrights 59/214 Gareth Richardson 2023-03-29 | Quarter way through my journey hiking the wainwrightsI started out taking photo's of my progress and with plenty of time to think I've decided to have a different outlook on how to record my journey . So to my dismay I will have to go back and record the previous 58 Wainwrights already summited (let's face it, its another reason to go back) .Accent from Dungeon Ghyll (via Red Tarn) 859 m Accent 4 mile Alfred Wainwright:Natural Features Some mountains are obviously named by reference to their physical characteristics.Crinkle Crags isone of these, and it was probably first so called by the dalesfolk of the valleys to the east and around the head of Windermere, whence its lofty serrated ridge, a succession of knobs and depressions, is aptly described by the name. These undulations, seeming trivial from a distance, are revealed at close range as steep buttresses and quilies above wild declivities, a scene of desolation and rugged grandeur equalled by few others in the district. Nor is the Eskdale flank any gentler, for here too are gaunt shattered crags rising from incredibly rough slopes. The high pass of Three Tarns links the ridge with Bowfell to the north while southwards Wrynose Bottom is the boundary.Crinkle Crags is much too good to be missed: For the mountaineer who prefers his mountains rough, who likes to see steep craggy slopes towering before him into the sky, who enjoys an up-and-down ridge walk full of interesting nooks and corners, who has an appreciative eye for magnificent views, this is a climb deserving of high priority.
