Exposure to extreme stressors leaves first responders prone to many health risks themselves. To date, the top two killers within this profession are cancer and suicide.
Recognizing the need to help first responders with their physical and mental health, Dr. Schweig built a program that follows many of the best practices we use at our clinic.
Hear what gut health, nutrition, stress management, and sleep techniques can help improve overall health.

While this provides some support that strain specificity does not matter, it brings up more questions about how funding influences study outcomes.
If you’re an avid PubMed reader like myself, how do you determine the credibility of studies?
#probiotics #probioticsupplements #probioticstrains #pubmed #gutflora #gutmicrobiome #guthealth #functionalhealth #drruscio
…but the research mostly says otherwise.
💡 The real game-changer lies in probiotics.
By nourishing our gut with the right balance of beneficial bacteria, we can create an environment that naturally fights off those unwanted invaders! 💪🦠
🔍 Scientific studies have shown that probiotics play a vital role in rebalancing our gut microbiota, supporting digestion, and promoting overall gut health. 🌱✨

Whey protein is:
➡️ Easy to digest and absorb (even for those with digestive issues)
➡️ Less expensive compared to other proteins
➡️ Great for body composition
As always, remember to consult with your doctor to see if it’s the next best addition to your diet.
Do you use whey protein? If so, how does it benefit you?

To counteract depression, research reiterates the value of taking probiotics—a supplement widely used for digestive disorders. Having a healthy gut can help balance mood.
Listen in to discover why probiotics and other simple, non-supplemental interventions are worth adding to your mental health toolkit.
EDIT: Around 16:28, I mention spending 2 hours per day in nature. This should actually be 2 hours per WEEK, as per the study findings I discuss in the episode.

🔍 Probiotics
🔍 Diets such as elemental, Paleo, and low FODMAP
🔍 Hormone-balancing herbs
🔍 Wim Hof breathing
🔍 The GUPTA program
🔍 And more
And while these tools exist and help many of our patients, we can’t ignore another important piece of the gut-healing process: mending the gut-brain connection.

I developed the Elemental Protein Bar based on the success of our Elemental Heal meal replacement shake, which helps reduce gut inflammation and symptoms associated with IBS, SIBO, and other digestive disorders.
Compared to traditional protein bars on the market, our Elemental Protein Bar is made without prebiotic sweeteners that cause gut irritation and blood sugar swings.
Hear how our protein bar that’s gut-friendly has eased Dr. Scott and I’s digestive woes and helped Dr. Hannah stabilize her blood sugar.

Rather than being shoehorned into a thyroid diagnosis, it’s important to look at the scientific evidence that explains why it may not be your thyroid causing symptoms of fatigue, digestive issues, or brain fog. Listen in to hear when thyroid medication and interventions are necessary, what TPO and TSH levels indicate a thyroid issue, and what steps you can take to discover the true root cause of your health issues.

Focus on improving your diet quality, which means eating:
⬆️ More plants and fermented foods
⬇️ Less sugar, grains, and processed foods
It’s important to listen to your body throughout this process.
If digestive symptoms occur or flare up, consider following these two steps in order:
Start with a basic elimination diet that temporarily excludes common culprits like dairy and gluten.
Try the low FODMAP diet and intermittent fasting.

Taking note of Sally’s symptoms, labs, medical history, and previous treatments she’s tried, Dr. Hamlin devised a plan with two of our clinic’s most effective therapies: triple therapy probiotics and an elemental diet.
Hear how these remedies helped Sally feel more confident about what she can eat and provided her with the healing she was looking for.

Herbals are as effective as rifaximin and triple therapy antibiotic therapy for resolving SIBO.

If you’re having digestive symptoms, adding fiber in too soon may further irritate your gut.
I recommend starting with probiotics first to rebuild your gut and then introduce fiber.

While some data shows it to be beneficial, FMT shouldn’t be the first step in healing your gut.
It’s best to start with:
🦠 Probiotics
🍽️ Low FODMAP diet
💊 Antispasmodics
Make sure to discuss FMT with your clinician ONLY once you’ve tried these without symptom relief.
