With the exception of Mr Pages, you won’t meet any of my characters in this video in-game. They were all written for this song to show as many facets of Fallen London as I could. We have low, middle and upper class and with each we touch on the new laws, freedoms and struggles and the new mysteries of the world beneath. Characters looking for love, looking for intimacy and just looking for companionship, a direct correlation with your options in Mask of the Rose’s relationships.Fallen London, freed from those Victorian societal norms, has always been a diverse, inclusive and unapologetically queer world. And as a queer creator myself it was so important to make sure that was properly represented here, especially at this newly explored early point in the timeline, as the city comes to terms with what it means to have that freedom of self-expression. So, Cassie was created specifically to fill this role and explore these themes. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a little nerve-racking playing a femme presenting, character here on the channel for the first time, but as a genderfluid person myself, it felt natural and meant so much to me to get that opportunity. I hope you enjoy her as much as I enjoyed playing her.This project has been one of the most fun things I have ever had the chance to work on and a real career highlight for me. Just what would I DO with it? It’s for certain not my typical fare here on the channel but there’s nothing I love more than a challenge. (Arguments could be made for a good, strong cheddar but Big Cheddar have yet to reach out about a song).So Liz and I set about playing and researching the lore of Genshin Impact to try and find an angle that would be a good fit for the channel. In our research of the lore we discovered two key things;Number one: There is a LOT of it. Like, wow. There’s a lot to get your head around. How would I pick one thing to squeeze into a song?Number two: There’s an entire region of the game devoted to the pursuit of knowledge with a grand academy at its centre.Well if we’ve proved one thing over the past five years it’s that if you give me an establishment where some sort of authority figure could conceivably lecture a listener on a given relevant topic, I can squeeze that through my noggin's song nozzle and extrude a jam from it.So what if… I tried to cram as much lore as possible into as little time as possible? Now THERE’S a challenge.This song could easily have been five times longer and still not covered everything so it’s far from comprehensive, but as a fun race through the history of the continent of Teyvat it is, as the kids say, a bop.A huge thanks to everyone who helped pull this project together! CHRISTMAS IN THE BACKROOMS | The Backrooms Christmas song! The Stupendium 2022-12-16 | Whilst I was in the attic last week, fishing out our Christmas decorations, I stumbled upon an old box of VCR equipment clearly left by the previous owner. Alongside the dusty old hardware were a bunch of tapes. Most were too degraded after what must be decades in a dusty attic to play at all. The few that did work were mostly home recordings of old TV. Clearly well used, garbled from countless re-recordings over the same fragile strip of magnetic tape, snippets of programming from years gone by.Uploaded here is one of the small salvageable segments from a tape labelled 'Christmas '86'.Strangely, since I found that tape... I've not actually been able to find my way back down from the attic. There was a hatch here somewhere... A ladder? But it just... Keeps going...?Is anyone there?---I told you I wanted to do something new! I never said something couldn't still be spooky!And yes, it is kind of a demi-parody of 'Holly Jolly Christmas'! I've wanted to do something jazzy since I last attempted it with 'Another Horror Holiday' way back in 2019. But where that was a pastiche of more modern festive jazz, I wanted to go back further and take a stab at a real classic festive sound.Couple that with my love for the old TV holiday special aesthetic and weird hobby of enjoying vintage commercial compilations and the idea of a 'Backrooms Holiday Special' on a mysterious old tape wedged itself in my head a year ago and hasn't left since. The aesthetic, the sounds, the characters. I don't typically play this sort of game at all, but the world of it totally drew me in just from the trailers and I knew I had to try it. That ‘scheduled vacation’ I mentioned in my previous video was much needed and much enjoyed but I’m excited to be back and working on a heap of new and upcoming projects! This being the first! For certain a smaller project to facilitate that time away, this song was written and recorded, with the video mostly completed before I left and now I’m back just took a little more work to have ready for you.It's certainly the saddest/most emotionally intense song I’ve uploaded to the channel in a long, long time. In truth this song was written on August 5th, which not only was my birthday but also the day of Nerdcore Party Con, an event I had been looking forward to performing at for years after it had been delayed several times due to the Pandemic. And an event I would have been attending had it not been for the Covid I had contracted the day before my flight on the 3rd.Alone and isolating as the friends I had been desperate to see were partying on the other side of the world and with my US vacation cancelled (though thankfully later rescheduled the following month, sans the convention) I tried to write a song to distract myself. But I guess I needed an emotional outlet and it turned out to be this song.I sat down with the intent of writing first and foremost about the cat. But ultimately, I didn’t have much interesting to say about the cat. The cat is adorable but really serves as a vehicle to learn about the world, lore and characters of the forgotten city.The idea of a city filled with abandoned sentient robots so ancient that they don’t even remember how they gained that sentience was fascinating to me. There are various theories about the Companions and how they came to be, but I found the idea that they simply don’t know and that uncertainty to be what was really interesting. So I chose to write from their perspective, unsure and theorising, based on some of the ideas the Companions put forward in game. I hope you all enjoyed this slightly heavier and less cat-centric take on the game. It’s not often I flex those more serious writing muscles but I’m very proud of the result. Rest assured, there is some trademark Stupendium brand silliness, bureaucracy and sinister authority figure-ness on the horizon. So, I channelled my inner Hasselhoff to put together this tune.I eschewed my more typical, intricate lyrical style for this one in favour of an accurate pastiche - 80s action movie themes weren’t known for their complex rhyme schemes and clever wordplay. For this track, I really wanted to nail that feeling of a real old movie theme, so I chose to use some simpler lyrics and focus hard on ‘vibes’. It was a challenge to do, but I think the end result is awesome - I hope you do too!I want to thank EVERYONE who helped this project come together. This was by far the largest production I have ever undertaken, with two sets built, an on-location shoot and heavily animated sequences, as well as custom props and the renting of 25,000 balls, this project could not have happened without the help of SO many people.And I want to give an extra special thanks to my good friend Jolin for designing my avatar for this video. The life of the ‘StupendiBird’ started years ago as a piece of fan-art and the design has become so popular in the Stupendium community over on Twitter and Discord that it felt only right to officiate them into a real video. Probably my most requested remaster to date!Frostpunk is one of my favourite games from the past few years and Shelter From the Storm has always been one of my favourite songs from the early days of the channel. It was one of the first times I really tried to push what I could do with both storytelling and rhyme and when people ask me what some of my favourite lyrics I've ever written are, a lot come from this song.But it is definitely showing it's age. Poppy Playtime is your classic 'boy meets girl' story. Except the boy is a former employee of an abandonned toy factory where everyone went missing who has been summoned back years later by a mysterious message and the girl is an ominous living doll trapped in a glass case who may or may not be made out of a human being and instead of a romance there is Huggy Wuggy, a giant fuzzy blue abomination determined to hug you into a fine paste.This was an absolutely mammoth project for me, I don't think any video I have ever undertaken has involved such an intensive amount of pre-production prop, costume, design and set construction work in addition to a hefty amount of VFX work and post production. Hit by multiple delays along the way with late and lost deliveries of materials and props, rescheduled shoots and a myriad of other hiccups, there were points it felt like this would never be finished. I'm so happy to finally have this project complete and to be able to share it with you all. FIND THE KEYS | 2022 REMASTER | Bendy and the Ink Machine Song! The Stupendium 2022-03-25 | If you'd have told me back in 2017 when I released the original Find the Keys that years later I'd be releasing my 100th video I wouldn't have believed you.I've told this story before but if you're new around here you may not know that Find the Keys was going to be my last ever video. I'd been making content on YouTube for around seven years at that point, all sorts of things on various channels and none of it had ever found an audience. So I decided to make one last video, pour everything I had into it and if it did well, great! But if not, I was going to retire from YouTube content and find a new hobby.The video took me around 18 months to make around my day job and other commitments but I finally released it in September 2017.When the video came out I had just over 100 subscribers. Within a couple of weeks I'd hit 10,000.Needless to say, Find the Keys will always have a very special place in my heart.I am thrilled to present it here, fully remastered. Maybe you can get him one last sale and become a BIG SHOT just like him..?Okay, so this one was obviously going to happen, wasn't it? With my seemingly unerring trend of making songs about crazy and/or evil businessmen. I think we all knew this was coming, right?This was a very interesting project to write. If you've followed my work for any length of time you'll hopefully know that one thing I strive for in all of my character pieces is accuracy and authenticity in the lyrics and performance. So how does one write a song to be sung by a character who struggles with complete sentences? The answer? Throw all the lyrical rules out the window and go a little bit insane. Has it paid off? I don't know! I hope so.I also really wanted to push for music that sounded straight from Deltarune. This song has Spamton's words coming at you hard and unrelenting as if they were attacks in a battle and I wanted the music to reflect that. Credit to oo oxygen for composing the synthesized insanity going on in this song.Also, the musical-theatre aficionados among you MAY recognise some references to a particular 1957 musical. 'The Music Man' is a show all about a musical conman/salesman and I just couldn't resist working in some (pretty on the nose) ((and it IS a big nose)) references to some of its songs.Does all of this result in a good song? Good question! If nothing else, it's certainly an experience and I'm proud of how true to Spamton I think it feels.And before anyone, perhaps unfamiliar with Spamton, asks: yes we DID spellcheck this video... But at the same time, I was very early in my music career and the track was perhaps a little too ambitious for me at the time. More layers of harmonies and vocals than I'd ever attempted and a more complex style of musical composing and structure than a typical rap number. So whilst I loved the track, it was always a little rough around the edges.So I thought it was about time for the remaster treatment! The fantastic oo oxygen has reworked the track, improving and balancing the vocals and instrumentation, reining in the harmonies and fleshing out the track with new sounds and instruments for a fuller sound!In addition, I've also revisited the video, upscaling the project to full 4k, fixing a few minor visual bugs and also adding a little more visual polish here and there!I'm really excited to share this one with you all and I hope you don't mind another smaller project as I am knee deep in new house things. FRAGMENTS | Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Song feat. Freeced & oo oxygen! The Stupendium 2021-07-16 | In Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart you once more take on the role of Ratchet, Clank and new friend Rivet to defeat returning nemesis Dr. Nefarious on an adventure through the multiverse. Nefarious has stolen the Dimensionator and is on the hunt for the dimension where he can finally defeat the last of the Lombax and rule supreme, even if it means tearing the universe to pieces to get there.As a kid I was absolutely in love with the Ratchet & Clank series, to this day those early games probably have some of the most playtime of any game I've played. But sadly when the consoles moved on a generation I skipped the PS3 and when the Playstation exclusive franchise moved on from the PS2 I lost my way with the franchise. So when Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was announced for the PS5 I knew not only that I'd have to play it, but that I'd have to write a song about it too.But I ended up writing a song about more than just that. I started writing this song with the intent of doing something very silly (I tried and failed to perfect a singing voice for Doctor Nefarious) but as I brainstormed and learned more about the game I started finding themes and ideas that really spoke to me and pulled me in another direction.In Rift Apart, Ratchet and Clank think they have it all figured out, they know their world and their place in it. Until that world suddenly changes in a way they could never anticipate. Their journey touches on many hard hitting themes such as self doubt, being 'broken' and that sometimes flaws are a matter of perspective.So whilst this is still very much a song about and inspired by the themes and narrative of the game, it is also a deeply personal song, drawing from experience in adapting to and overcoming unexpected situations, self discovery and exploring what it means to be you when you find that maybe there's more 'you' than you thought.It's honestly one of my favourite songs I've made to date, so I really hope you enjoy it.Also, I am moving house! Again! So expect a run of simpler video projects until I'm settled and ready to get back to big video productions! Choose your life path; Corpo, Nomad or Street Kid and embark on a quest to uncover the secrets and conspiracies of the city and the Arasaka corporation all the while dodging magical teleporting police officers and hoping your car doesn't sink through the asphalt.It goes without saying that the much anticipated Cyberpunk has had a... rocky... first 6 months of life.The nature of my videos means they take months to make and most of the time I need to work ahead, start making them long before a game releases. Sometimes that means a game releases in a poor state and I already have a song prepared. It happened with Fallout 76 and it's happened again here!Late last year I had this song ready, the props and costumes bought and the video planed all on schedule to be ready for the game's release. Then Among Us happened and I decided 'Cyberpunk is big enough to wait an extra month, I'll squeeze in an Among Us video first!'...Then Cyberpunk released. In the firestorm of response to the game I opted to shelve the project to return to at a later date in the hopes things would calm down and the game might improve. Well here we are! Has the game improved? Possibly. But I had a free slot in my schedule and all of the props and costumes ready and waiting to go so I decided it was time to make this thing happen! I already have too many other projects in long-term limbo to let this one wait any more!This song focuses on the 'Corpo' world of Arasaka. (Are you surprised I took the corporate corruption approach?) My initial concept for the song was more about the world of corporate espionage, but as I wrote about this interconnected digital corporate world the idea shifted into the themes of data collection and privacy and how these issues that we are already facing today might take form in a world where the corporations so keen to know everything about you have direct unfettered access to the inside of your head.It's another 'this is a song about the world of the game and using that world to explore a real world theme' kind of song. The Stupendium 2021-02-26 | In IO Interactive's Hitman 3, the final chapter in the world of Assassination trilogy, you return to the shoes of master assassin Agent 47, the apex predator, travelling the world in search of the elusive Providence and searching for the truth behind agent 47's past.It's no secret I love the Hitman series and Hitman 3 is no exception. This track was a blast to put together, I wanted to go for a more epic, cinematic tone for the song vs The Second's more creeping, ominous vibe, to reflect the larger scale and stakes at play in Hitman 3 and I'm super happy with how it turned out.I actually had very different plans for the video initially but scheduling meant I had to scale it back to something more similar for the idea for the previous Hitman video. Initially I was not keen on this plan, I wanted to do something different, but after a while I came around to the idea of making a similar video as the previous one to challenge myself and show how my video making has improved. THE MOST FASHIONABLE FACTION | Animated Team Fortress 2 Song! [ft. Harry101UK] The Stupendium 2020-10-30 | In Valve's now iconic 'Team Fortress 2' they created the world's first War-themed Hat Simulator. Two teams of RED and BLU mercenaries battle it out across countless warzones with intense firepower and fine head-based tailoring. Somewhere behind all of this is some sort of deep conspiracy with two warring factions, corporate intrigue and muscular hirsute Australians. But really we know it's all about the hats.Harry101UK and I have been talking about this project for YEARS but I actually wrote it before we'd even met, long before I was ever recording music. If memory serves, I'm fairly certain that this song was the first rap I ever wrote. The earliest recorded demo of this song dates back to 2016 but the lyrics had existed for at least 2-3 years before that.Of course I've been back through and updated the lyrics a bit to reflect 6+ years of writing and music experience. (the old beat I originally wrote to was almost half the speed, so some lyrics had to be streamlined to make them say-able!) The Engy and the Medic got the biggest re-writes, because the Engy lyrics were a total tongue twister that was unsayable at this speed and because I'd actually already recycled the Medic's original verse to be used in my Surgeon Simulator song.I moved house recently and knew I'd have to take several weeks off from working on videos to do so, so now seemed like the perfect time to resurrect this project and have someone else make a video for me for the first time. Even the Doom Slayer can get lonely...If you're familiar with my work here on the channel, you may have realised that the thrashing, apocalyptic metal sound so synonymous with DOOM is NOT exactly in my wheelhouse... So when working out exactly what to do for this epic game, I decided to go back to its roots... No, not the classic original shooter... The 90s. And what's more 90s than a boyband ballad? Nothing. That's what.This project was an interesting (and stressful!) one for me. I had originally planned for it to be released alongside the game with a much bigger, more complex, studio produced video.
