Here’s the truth: you have choices with your accent. You don’t need to “erase” it or sound exactly like a native speaker to succeed.
The real goal is to be clear, to be understood, and to feel confident in who you are as an English speaker.
I’ve worked with so many students who thought their accent was a weakness, only to discover it was part of their identity, something that actually made them memorable and unique.
So instead of chasing perfection, focus on clarity. Focus on confidence. That’s what will carry you forward in English and in life.

If you truly want to sound and speak like a native, you also need the same cultural competence—knowing the same idioms, references, jokes, and grammatical structures they use daily.
When you sound exactly like “one of us,” people subconsciously expect you to know what they know. So if you slip up on a grammar point or miss an idiom, they may be confused or even surprised.
💡 My advice? Don’t aim to “pass” as native. Work on your skills holistically—pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and cultural understanding. Let your skills grow together in balance… in a way that honors your background and helps you progress confidently while creating your own unique voice in English.
There will ALWAYS be someone else who is further ahead than you, who has made more progress or has achieved more success.
And if that’s what we focus on, we will always feel like our own achievements are never enough.
Don’t fall into that trap.
I’ve been there before, and it’s not fun.
It holds us back and steals our joy.
And you know what else?
When it comes to someone else’s success, we never have the full story.
You don’t know what it cost them. You don’t know what sacrifices they’ve made, what has kept them up at night, or what has left them feeling lost and hopeless.
So, if you have been comparing yourself to others, it’s time to flip a switch in your brain and STOP.
Enough is enough.
Choose to be happy for everyone else and their achievements, and decide to become your own #1 fan and best cheerleader.
Your journey will become so much more enjoyable if you do this, I promise!

It takes time for the mouth to find the correct positions for new sounds.
It takes time for these new sounds to STICK and turn into habits. So, allow the process to flow naturally, and don’t try to force a change too quickly.
Trust the process and know that your hard work will pay off in the end.
You got this!
It's not just you—and it’s not fake either.
Whether it’s picking up “y’all” in the South or changing your accent with a new group, this is something MANY people do without even realizing it. It’s called code switching—and it’s a normal part of how we connect with different groups.
🧠Our brains are wired to adapt and connect..
Here’s something really important: if you ever hear your accent reflected back to you by someone else, it might not be mockery—it might just be code switching in action. Our brains naturally mirror the speech of those around us to connect and belong.
💬 Have you noticed your accent or speaking style change depending on who you're with? Tell us in the comments!
There’s a common pattern among language learners:
👉 We stop improving when we stop paying attention.
In the beginning, every word, every sound, every phrase feels new and exciting. You notice everything, so you improve quickly. But over time, comfort can become your biggest enemy.
If you’ve plateaued, it’s time to REACTIVATE your attention.
🔍 Listen closely.
🧠 Engage intentionally.
💪 Push past autopilot.
Start paying attention again like English is brand new to you—and watch your progress skyrocket.
👇 Tell me, what are YOU going to pay more attention to this week?
Many self-taught learners—who never took formal English classes—are actually BETTER at connected speech than those who studied grammar for years!
Why? Because they listen and repeat. No overthinking, just real, natural use of the language.
This clip is from the NEW YouTube video I just posted a couple day ago:
“Self-Taught Students Sound More Fluent (& other things I’ve noticed)”
📌 Watch the full video now on YouTube
👉 So, are YOU practicing connected speech in your English? Let me know below!
Reading fiction is one of the BEST ways to improve your vocabulary because it gives you rich, emotional context for every word. Instead of memorizing random words, you feel them in action—inside stories, characters, emotions, and real conversations.
Authors use powerful language: idioms, advanced vocabulary, and expressions. And because stories are so engaging and we get so invested… our brains naturally retain more.
So if you’re serious about improving your English, go find a novel you actually enjoy. Read a little every day. 📖
The results will blow your mind. 🧠💥
What’s the last book you read in English? Drop it below! 👇
I spent years studying Spanish in school. My grammar? Pretty solid.
But every time I tried to speak, I froze. 😬
My words felt forced. My sentences were technically correct, but they didn’t flow.
Then I moved to Argentina.
Suddenly, I was surrounded by real conversations—people talking fast, using slang, contractions, dropping words entirely… and I realized:
💡 This is how people really speak.
And none of it was taught in my textbooks.
So I threw the books aside and focused on immersion. I listened, mimicked, experimented, and messed up—a lot—but my Spanish finally came alive.
That’s why I teach English the way I do now.
Not from a textbook. Not in boxes.
But through real-world immersion that helps you sound and feel natural.
If your English is “correct” but still doesn’t feel right, maybe it’s time to try a new approach.
💬 When did you realize grammar wasn’t enough to sound natural?
Why? Their English isn’t necessarily better—they’re just not afraid of messing up. They let the words roll off their tongue without overthinking… and THAT is the mindset you need to truly unlock your fluency.
What mindset shift helped YOU speak more fluently?
ABOUT THE VIDEO:
After working with thousands of English learners from around the world, I started noticing certain patterns—who improves quickly, who stays stuck, and why. In this video, I’m sharing the most surprising things I’ve learned over the years, including what really boosts fluency, why some learners sound more natural, and what might be holding you back without even realizing it. These are things no textbook ever tells you—and they might just change the way you study English forever.

Because for many, speaking feels like a performance.
You’re afraid of being judged, critiqued, or misunderstood.
And honestly—it’s not your fault.
Traditional English classes often train students to think this way. They make you speak only when you're "ready," correct every little mistake, and reward perfect answers. So of course you start feeling like you have to “perform” every time you speak.
But here’s the truth I learned the hard way—while trying to become fluent in Spanish:
💬 Language isn’t a performance. It’s a tool. A tool for connection. For self-expression. For living your life.
Yes, I studied pronunciation.
Yes, I practiced like crazy and copied native speakers.
But I also lost myself in the process.
I was so focused on sounding “perfect” that I stopped sounding like me.
So if you're learning English and working hard to sound native, I get it.
Just remember this:
✨ You’re not here to become a copy of someone else.
You’re here to find YOUR voice—in English.
👉 Have you ever felt this pressure when speaking English?
Many English words end in -tion because they come from Latin, where this suffix was used to form nouns from verbs. Over time, English borrowed many of these words—especially through French—so now we have tons of -tion words in English.
For example:
create → creation
act → action
solve → solution
🎯 Watch the video, then try saying these words out loud:
1. Nation
2. Situation
3. Attention
4. Direction
5. Education
6. Operation
7. Competition
8. Celebration
9. Communication
10. Translation

“Where are you from?” They would ask.
She’s from Argentina…
But as for me? I couldn’t hear her accent at all!
To me, she sounded completely normal.
And that made me realize something powerful about how we perceive accents. The more you are exposed to an accent, the more “normal” it sounds to you… because it’s familiar.
For example, I’ve noticed that people often say I don’t “have an accent”. But let’s be real, I definitely do! It’s just that, thanks to Hollywood movies, TV shows, and global media, the California/West Coast sound is so widespread that it feels neutral, natural, and normal to most ears.
Meanwhile, when someone speaks with an accent that’s less familiar, like Southern U.S., or from another country, our ears pick up on the difference immediately.
Anyhow, it honestly doesn’t matter what accent you have in English… as long as you feel comfortable when you speak and people understand you… that’s what counts!
It happens to all of us—even advanced speakers.
So when it happens to you, don’t panic.
Just describe what you're trying to say. This keeps your thoughts flowing and your speech fluent—no need to stop or stress over one forgotten word.
And don’t feel the need to apologize for your vocabulary.
No one expects your English to be perfect. What matters is staying present in the conversation—not getting derailed because you forgot a word.
Fluency improves when you learn to pivot quickly.
There are a million ways to express an idea—so don’t let forgetting ONE word stop you from sharing yours.
It’s time to let go of perfectionism.
Your brain will adapt to this flexible, fluid way of speaking—and that shift will be a game changer.
Try it out and let me know how it goes!
I loved the challenge—but that mindset also held me back for YEARS.
😬 I avoided speaking to hide my mistakes.
😟 I felt anxious in conversations.
And I missed out on the practice I desperately needed to improve.
Eventually, I reached my goal… but realized I didn’t want to sound “perfect.”
I wanted to sound like me—fluent and authentic.
So here’s the truth:
You don’t need to chase native-like fluency to reach it.
You just need to speak more, enjoy the process, and embrace the mess.
👉 That’s how real progress happens.
🌎 Check out Youglish.com — one of the BEST free tools out there! Just type in a word, choose the accent (American, British, Australian… whatever you need), and BOOM 💥 — you’ll hear it used in real sentences by real people.

This suffix is a lot simpler than it looks - once you know the trick!

Most people think it’s only used for groups—but in the South, “y’all” can be used for just one person too! 🤯
✅ “Y’all come in!” (to one friend or a whole group)
✅ “What are y’all doing?” (even if it’s just your husband on the couch 😂)
Y’all is warm, flexible, and FULL of Southern charm—and it’s more common than you think!
💬 Do YOU ever say “y’all”? Would you use it in everyday English?
But that was over a decade ago, and I’ve learned a lot since then.
When you speak multiple languages, you naturally start blending styles, borrowing expressions, and developing a way of speaking that’s uniquely YOU. Even if the expression doesn’t translate perfectly, it adds flavor and personality to how you communicate… and it can be a great conversation starter!
For example, one of my students recently said, “Too much ketchup ruins the fries.”🍟 I’d never heard that before… and I loved it! It’s a vivid expression—even if it’s not common in English—because Americans are known for using WAY too much ketchup!
Also, did you know the phrase “long time no see” is actually borrowed from Chinese? 🇨🇳 Even though it’s grammatically incorrect in English, it became a widely accepted expression and is used as a friendly greeting when you haven’t seen someone in a while 👋
🗣️ What’s an expression from your native language that would be fun to use in English? And what does it mean?
Like you know what you want to say, but suddenly… you don’t know how to say it, you forget specific words, and panic sets in?
Here’s a tip: don’t let frustration show 😶
Instead, do what native speakers do—pause and think about what you want to say.
🧠 This is NORMAL. It happens to everyone.
What matters is how you handle it.
So next time you hit a communication wall…
✨ Stay calm.
✨ Breathe.
✨ Keep thinking.
People will assume you’re just choosing your words carefully (and you are!)
The suffix “-age” can sound tricky in English—but once you hear the pattern, it clicks!
🎯 Watch the video & try saying these words out loud!

Here’s the truth most learners don’t hear enough: You can’t rely on English spelling. In fact, trying to read words “the way they’re spelled” often makes your accent stronger, not better.
If you want to reduce your accent, speak clearly, and sound more fluent…
🎧 You need to listen CLOSELY to English.
🗣️ You need to IMITATE what you hear.
❌ Stop trusting how words are written—it’s confusing for pronunciation!

In this video, I explain why deep, focused listening is one of the most powerful things you can do to sound more natural in English. Shadowing isn’t just about repeating what you hear—it starts with training your brain to notice all the little details in real speech: pitch, melody, rhythm, and more.
Most people skip this step because it feels too slow... but this is where the magic happens. ✨
If you want your pronunciation to truly level up, don’t rush it. Sit with the audio. Listen again. And again. Let your ears become your coach. 🎧💬
This "deep listening" strategy is a HUGE part of our Daily English Program, and some students even do it blindfolded (and they get incredible results!). We open enrollment again in May (toward the end of the month), but just a warning... this program is NOTHING like traditional English language courses.
So, if you want to improve your English with us starting next month, just comment go here to learn more about the Daily English Program:

This is a LIVE 12-week program that we run ONCE a year, and it's designed to help you improve every area of your English, from speaking, listening, and pronunciation to vocabulary, grammar, writing and MORE 😊
Again, if you are ready for a NEW way to improve your English that really works, just click the link below and make sure to join the waitlist so you know when we begin enrolling new students:

Until then, keep shadowing and don't forget to be still, close your eyes, focus, and REALLY listen to what you hear... again and again and again 💪🏼
When your ears are trained, they’ll guide you. They’ll tell you:
❌ “That R wasn’t quite right.”
✅ “That sounded perfect!”
You don’t always need a teacher to correct you—your ears can become your best coach. But first, you’ve gotta slow down, REALLY listen, and train your ears. 🎧💬

😩 I was too AFRAID of speaking with other people (so scared people would “catch” my mistakes)
😩 I felt like my Spanish needed to be perfect first (but practice is how you improve!)
😩 I AVOIDED speaking at all costs (even pretended to be SHY just so I wouldn’t have to speak)
Nobody told me speaking, practicing, and even connecting with others could be so FUN! Nobody told me mistakes were Ok and even necessary! You make a LOT of them before you improve…
This mindset slowed me down like crazy and gave me lots of speaking anxiety. Eventually I realized what I was doing wrong, changed my mindset AND my strategies and FINALLY unlocked my fluency 🥳
And this is exactly why I created our super affordable 30-day Fluency Breakthrough Challenge (only $25!). With just one task a day, you can unlock your fluency in English and go from ”I understand English” to “now I speak English too!”

👉 This doesn’t mean you stop working on your speaking skills. It means feeling the FREEDOM to express yourself without the fear of mistakes, the pressure to “perform” perfect English, or feeling like a failure when someone asks, “Where are you from?”
🎯 I get it. When I was learning Spanish, I was OBSESSED with sounding like a native speaker. Anything less felt like failure. But after years of experience, I’ve realized that, while copying and imitating are excellent learning techniques, at some point you have to find your OWN voice and embrace it fully.
✨ If this message hits home, you’ll LOVE my 7-Day Fluent Pronunciation Challenge — and it’s 100% FREE!
