The TCC recently acquired an RS-2 from the NYCRR and after some quick decal work is ready for some freight switching. The freight train in this video contains four empty hoppers bound for Bubba's Sand & Gravel in San Angela (Lawrence, KS) plus two gondolas with some sort of government cargo that will be dropped off at the house track for further shipment by the ATSF. The gondolas are 3D printed and the hoppers are from Roundhouse. The RS-2 is from Kato and was purchased from the used section of N Scale Supply.

Latest 3D Design Project Update John Tanzillo 2023-05-16 | NOTE: This model railroad video is not intended for anyone under 14 years of age due to the use of small parts, dangerous tools, electrical items, glues, and paints.This is the latest N-Scale 3D printing project that I have been working on this past month. It is a tanker truck fuel loading dock. The assembled structure is 99% 3D printed using PLA on an Anycubic Vyper. There are 12 modified Peacock brake wheels glued to the larger white vertical pipes to serve as control valves. Also there are two 0.75mm styrene rods glued to the underside of the roof supports to which the hoses are glued. Details on the addition of the Cattle, Sheep, and Hogs as well as Scenery is also provided along with the overall cost of the project.The 18-gate stock feed lot is 66 inches wide and a little over 4 inches deep. It houses between 180-190 head of cattle, 30 sheep, and 24 hogs. It is an overview showing how the REA Express complex was designed and 3D printed for my layout. The design of this structure was based upon the actual Railroad Express Agency complex at the Kansas City Union Station and modified to fit the available space. All of the structures were printed using PLA. It consists of 20 stock cars including several Broadway Limited stock cars with sound (hogs, cattle, sheep). The train will be the Westbound Santa Fe Super Chief. The train will be controlled using a TCS UWT-100 WIFI Controller in conjunction with a WifiTrax WFD-30 (creates the WIFI environment in the layout building) that is connected to my NCE PH Pro 5 amp DCC system. The train will travel from track 1 staging yard B (departs Chicago) to Union Station and then on the westbound main and back down to the same staging track (arrives Los Angeles) from where it originated.
Soundtraxx Decoder Installs - Sound & Non Sound John Tanzillo 2023-02-15 | NOTE: This model railroad video is not intended for anyone under 14 years of age due to the use of small parts, dangerous tools, electrical items, glues, and paints.This video shows the install of two different types of Soundtraxx decoders, sound and non-sound, in N Scale Kato F units. First, I show the B unit (Soundtraxx non-sound motor decoder) and then the A unit (Tsunami2 KN-1 sound decoder kit) as well as the removal of the currently installed Digitrax non-sound decoders in both units. The Digitrax decoders will be set aside for installs in other N scale engines.Both of the new Soundtraxx installations are tested and then they are shown in consists. For this first project, there were three already assembled grain elevators/facilities to paint and weather, an assembled coal distributor to paint and weather, and finally an oil distributor kit (Walthers) to assemble, paint, and weather for the town of Michaelson (Ottawa, KS). After these tasks were completed, the structures were placed back onto the layout. The paints used were from both Vallejo and Tamiya. I was able to find some N scale hay bales on eBay to add to the scene. Once again corduroy material provided the base for the second field where the bales are located. I was inspired by an article in the July 2022 Model Railroader titled "Blend a River into a backdrop" by Bob Wundrock. I had needed something to blend the creek/river tributary into the backdrop near Paradigm (on my layout) rather than having the body of water just end up flat against the wall. The problem was that I was only able to use one tethered Pro Cab throttle or a WIFI throttle at a time but not simultaneously use both. This began to occur sometime after we had several lightning strikes on my property. One such lightning strike was approximately 100 feet from my well house and roughly the same distance from the outbuilding where my layout is located. That particular strike ended up causing my well pump to quit working and it had to be replaced. Little did I know that my DCC system would have some problems. CB&Q Silver Streak Zephyr John Tanzillo 2022-06-20 | NOTE: This model railroad video is not intended for anyone under 14 years of age due to the use of small parts, dangerous tools, electrical items, glues, and paints.Today I am running the CB&Q Silver Streak Zephyr using the N-Scale Con-Cor Pioneer Zephyr. The train has a Digitrax non-sound decoder installed.The train comes from Iowa (staging) traveling westbound as CB&Q Train # 21 and arrives at Union Station on track # 9. Because this type of train is essentially a single unit, it will have to be turned completely on the Union Station reversing loop before being ready to travel back to Iowa. Freight Operations - Tulsa to Union Station John Tanzillo 2022-06-02 | NOTE: This model railroad video is not intended for anyone under 14 years of age due to the use of small parts, dangerous tools, electrical items, glues, and paints.An N-Scale Bachmann 4-8-4 Northern (2015 release with can motor), Santa Fe # 2910, leads a freight special from Tulsa Union Depot and will make stops for pickups at San Angela (Lawrence, KS) and Paradigm (Holliday, KS) before terminating its run on track # 10 at Union Station.This was really an operational test of the Bachmann engine to see how well it would run pulling a freight train with some added switching operations. It has a Tsunami sound decoder installed. The engine did pretty well although there were some funny happenings along the way with the freight cars to include the convenient auto uncoupling of the first car from the tender just as the train got into Paradigm.
