Cine 2025-09-17 | Terrmasters D1 Plus, single bay M.2 USB4 Enclosure has been superbly designed. I mean its about as simple as it gets. Its just CNC'd aluminium with a wicked fast PCB interface shoved inside. But that simplicity works really well when populated with the right M.2 NVME drive and host computer.

Ive decided to use mine as a DaVinci Resolve scratch disk, because its silent and never gets hot. So it meets my needs.

Terramaster's designed the D1 to meet the demands of high-resolution video editing workflows.

Cine 2025-09-11 | In 2025 the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera HD is still outstanding.
When originally released in 2015, it was revolutionary for several reasons, fundamentally changing the landscape of independent filmmaking and video production.

At the time, like Blackmagic's other OG cinema cameras the 1080p RAW video feature were just lightyears beyond the competition, while being in the smallest most compact form factor.

A decade later this super 16mm sensor camera, with its cinematic look, workable depth of field, still enables filmmakers to achieve a professional aesthetic without the need for large, cumbersome equipment. And the best thing of all, is now they are super cheap.

These micro cinema cameras are now priced significantly lower than on launch, further democratising access to high-quality filmmaking tools. Today, just like yesteryear, this micro camera is allowing another "new" generation of filmmakers to create content that was previously only possible for those with substantial budgets.

Its mind-blowing how well these older Blackmagic cameras are ageing. They still inspire creativity and innovation, and I'm sure they will lead the way in another surge of independent films and web series in the future. They just have a look.

This is mostly partly due to the CDNG RAW files, which provided greater flexibility in post-production. This capability allowed for extensive color grading and manipulation, giving creators more control over their final product.

With its modular design philosophy, the Micro Cinema Camera HD was designed for customisation and can be used to great effect with various accessories. This is a super adaptable camera platform, for drones, documentary and even studio use.

PRODUCTION
This is an unsponsored video. 95% of this production was filmed handheld with the components listed below. No post stabilisation has been applied to clips. Colour grade is straight REC709 conversion. Edited and sound mixed in Resolve 20. LiDar AF has been used for more complex shots. Our advice is always to send less on cameras and more on accessories as these can be transferred between camera systems without locking you into a camera brand.

FORGET camera SLIDERS get this INSTEAD

Cine 2025-08-23 | Using the Neewer DL400 motorised camera dolly has been the most fun I've have filming in a long time. Its ultra quiet. It has dual motors, nonslip rubber wheels and is front wheel drive. The DL400 can handle payloads of 6.6lb/3kg, but i have run mine with a lot heavier setups and up some steep inclines.

The accessories, a 360° ball head, phone holder, and action camera adapter are good quality. They are compatible with Canon Sony Nikon Fujifilm fuji mirrorless cameras.

It can be controlled by either the APP or physical controls. And it is very simple to use, and execute good looking shots.

The NP-F750 rechargeable battery supports up to 5 hours of runtime, and a USB Type C cable for charging and firmware upgrade
Customisable Shooting Modes.

In Live Video mode, you can set movement directions, movement distance (2.2-32.8ft/66-999cm), and movement mode (constant/slow). In Time Lapse mode, you can set shutter speed, frame by frame duration, number of shots, and fixed point shoot.

In Button Control Mode, you can set movement directions, speed (1-5 levels), and movement mode (constant/slow). Note: Time Lapse photography requires a camera shutter cable (separately purchased)
Precise Motion & Flexible Use.

The camera dolly manually moves along circular, arched, and linear paths, with left or right +/-30°, and provides 5 speed levels (60s/m, 50s/m, 35s/m, 25s/m, 15s/m) for precise control, ensuring real time adjustments while shooting. The included ball head with a pan base and a U shaped notch for 360° rotation and 90° tilt angles.

I was ASLEEP at the wheel until I FOUND this CAMERA!

Cine 2025-08-20 | The Blackmagic Design 6K Full Frame has changed the way I look at everyday cameras. Technically, it's far from being close to perfect. The battery life sucks and the rolling shutter is really bad, but its so versatile, with BRAW, open gate and high frame rates that it has become my go to camera for documenting our family.

Recent events have changed a lot for me. I dont want to live with regret and want to capture everything.

Form many this camera is probably overkill....but its such an easy camera to use this way, so for me its the perfect Every Day Cinema Camera. Especially when trying to keep up with my dog.

Blackmagic defines this camera as an extremely high end digital film camera that produces precise skin tones and rich organic colors. I cant argue with that.

The camera features a massive full frame 36 x 24mm 6K sensor with wide dynamic range, a very flexible L-Mount for lenses and a built in optical low pass filter that's custom designed to match the sensor.

This video was filmed hand held with no camera stabilisation or gimbals. I did this so tat you can see the flaws in the camera system. I have done my best to post stabilise the footage, but .... blackmagic could do better here.

I found a Budget CINE PRIME thats BEYOND GOOD!

Cine 2025-08-16 | A lot of these 7artisans VISION primes are now popping up on the used market. Thats because everyone is jumping to full frame cinema cameras. This 12mm t2.9 7artisan vision prime, only cost me $120, a fraction of what they cost new.

The 12mm T2.9 is an APS-C MF Cine Lens for E/FX/M43/EOS-R/Z/L. And its by far one of the best lenses I have ever owned. If you cant find it used, its worth it new.

For this lens review, the 12mm 7artisans T2.9 MFT Vision Prime was paired with the cinema cameras:
1. Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera OG or BMPCC
2. Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera OG or BMMCC
3. Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4k

All of the HD shots have been upscaled using DaVinci Resolve 20.1.

As the 12mm Vision Prime is not Stabilised, some stabilisation has been applied in post, as has some film grain and film look creator effects. But no denoising has been applied to any of the footage, what you're seeing is straight REC 709 conversions LUTS. @7artisansOfficial

Why I LOVE this camera and will NEVER sell it....

Cine 2025-07-18 | Blackmagic Design's Pocket Cinema Camera OG HD was released way back in 2013. Since then, it has developed a real following. Over the past year, I have rediscovered how much fun it it is to film with. It's so simple to use, navigate and understand.

Most of this video was shot documentary style, handheld, no gimbals and available light. I used a variety of lenses, to show how different quality lenses render final images on the s16mm dual gain output Fairchild sensor.

Some footage has been left clean, just a REC709 conversion. Other footage has been graded and stabilised before a film simulation (film look creator / dehancer / filmconvert) has been applied.

How I RIG my PRODUCTION 4K IN 2025

After selling my Blackmagic Design Ursa 12k, I bought a well used Blackmagic Design Production 4k for its global shutter. It's become one of my workhorse cameras that my clients love the image I can squeeze from it.

Shimbols M5 $160 HDR On-Camera Monitor is....Amazing!

Cine 2024-12-24 | Shimbol's M5 is the perfect budget 5.5 inch HDR on camera monitor. At only $160 I couldn't find a better option.

I have been using now for a couple of months and have tested and compared it against my Ninja V, Shimbol Memory1, Hollyland 7", Marshall 7" and various other monitors from Viltrox - and the M5 now lives on my rig.

The M56 is a 4K HDR video on the M5 5.5" 3D LUT 4K HDMI Touchscreen Monitor by Shimbol with its 1200 nit brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio IPS screen with viewing angles up to 160 degrees, and built-in HLG mode and PQ support. The M5 monitor is calibrated to cover 100% of the Rec. 709 color space with a low Delta E of 0.6 for color accurate monitoring, supports resolutions up to DCI 4K25 or UHD 4K30, and features extensive monitoring tools such as 17- and 33-cube 3D LUT monitoring. The aluminum housing encloses a passively cooled design, which is possible due to its low power consumption of 3.5 to 6.5W, for a lightweight, quiet, and capable on-camera monitor.

Professional Monitoring Tools
In the scope menu, find your waveform, RGB parade, histogram, and vectorscope to facilitate color and exposure monitoring of your scene.
In the focus menu, find adjustable peaking and zoom functions to assist with focus.
Load 17- or 33-cube 3D LUTs in the color menu through the SD card, adjust your gamma from 2.2 to 2.6, toggle HLG mode or PQ for HDR monitoring, and adjust the color temperature.
False color allows for quick and accurate exposure adjustments.
The mask feature provides aspect ratio guides.
Buttons and Ports
The top of the monitor features a power button and three programmable function buttons for your most used monitoring tools.
On the left are two HDMI 1.4 ports, one input, and one output, as well as a DC input for extended power.
On the right is an SD card slot used to load up to 99 custom LUTs in addition to the eight log-monitoring LUTs included. A 1/4"-20 mounting thread below gives vertical or side-mounting options, and a 3.5mm input allows for audio monitoring. Levels are displayed on the monitor as well.
Another 1/4"-20 thread on the bottom is for conventional on-camera mounting. The adjacent USB-C port facilitates firmware updates.
At the rear is an L-Series/F970 battery plate for mobile power.

The build isn't apples to apples, but it got the job done and was really fun to use in this manner, brought back some memories thats for sure.

Cine 2024-12-17 | The Canon RF 16mm F2.8 STM lens has been out for a while, and I have been using it solidly for over a year before publishing this video review for videographers.

This lens truly is a bright, ultra-wide-angle and affordable lens for the EOS R series. At 16mm, this full-frame prime lens is ideal for vlogging, landscapes, architecture, astrophotography and more.

It's far from perfect, but it's affordable and fun to use.

The Canon RF 16mm F2.8 STM is a compact and lightweight wide-angle prime lens designed for Canon's mirrorless RF camera system. BUILDING my DREAM Pocket OG in 2024

In this video I will take you through all the pieces that I have bought mostly used to build this ultimate pocket cinema camera rig. That's everything from Mattebox and filters, Lens, DJI focus pro LiDAR, battery solution, camera cage, wireless video transmission, audio and all the other nicknacks that I needed to modernise this 12 year camera.

This project was shot mostly with OG cinema cameras to help show that these are still useful today. Hope you enjoy and add to the conversation in the comments.

Released in 2013 the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera, a beautifully designed, pocket sized digital cinema camera that includes powerful features such as Super 16mm sized 1080HD sensor, super wide 13 stops of dynamic range, built in SD card recorder for Apple ProRes, lossless compressed CinemaDNG RAW capture and active Micro Four Thirds lens mount, all in an attractive compact design that retailed for 995 USD.

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera has most of the features of its bigger brother, including its feature film look, but has been redesigned with a dramatically smaller size that is less than an inch thick and can be held easily in your hand.

This compact design allows the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera to be used in more situations where a larger camera would not be practical. It’s so small that it can be used in situations in the field where a larger camera could be dangerous. The camera’s film look even allows personal video to be shot with the style and creativity of a motion picture film.

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera features an industry standard Super 16 sensor size, so it’s perfect when using Super 16 cine lenses via MFT adapters, as the shooting experience is the same as using the same lens on a Super 16 film camera. The 13 stops of dynamic range look of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera is almost identical to shooting on a professional Super 16 film camera. The Micro Four Thirds lenses offer a wide range of low cost lenses with amazing image quality, and they are compatible with mount adapters such as PL mounts for large lens and professional motion picture film rigs.

To eliminate the damage that low bit depth and high compression video storage creates, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera includes a easy to use SD card recorder that allows the full sensor dynamic range to be recorded in professional ProRes 422 (HQ) format, as well as 12 bit Log RAW lossless compressed CinemaDNG format. These files can be read by high end video software as they are all open standard. In addition to the regular CinemaDNG RAW format, Blackmagic Design will also be implementing a QuickTime wrapper for the open standard CinemaDNG and companion codec, allowing the camera to record in a format that allows RAW editing in popular editing software.

The built in large LCD display makes focus easy, and allows playback of captured files. Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera includes a built in microphone, as well as external jack based mic/line level stereo audio connections. When reviewing recorded clips, audio can be played through the built in speaker and routed through the headphone port or micro HDMI output. The HDMI output includes all camera data such as timecode, transport control, shutter angle, color temperature setting and ASA information overlaid in attractive anti aliased fonts.

In no predetermined order:

Canon EF 24-105mm F4 IS USM L wide to telephoto zoom lens. For incredible versatility, the EF 24–105mm f/4L IS II USM has been redesigned to deliver superb L-series optical performance that pairs smoothly with the high-resolution, full-frame sensors of SLR cameras. Featuring a zoom range of 24–105mm and a constant f/4 aperture, the EF 24–105mm f/4L IS II USM is ideal for landscapes, portraits, sports and more, offering effective all-day performance for advanced photography and videography.

Canon EF 35mm F1.4 USM L For brilliant landscapes, portraits and close-up photography, look no further than the EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM. It helps provide a level of clarity and resolving power that can be an ideal complement to the latest generation of Canon’s high-resolution SLRs. With an effective focal length of 35mm on full-frame cameras and 56mm on APS-C cameras, it helps capture beautiful detail with minimal chromatic aberration and colour fringing thanks to Canon’s new BR optics element. It also has a fast, 9-blade maximum aperture of f/1.4 for impressive performance in low-light conditions and beautiful, soft backgrounds. The result is superior image quality: better contrast and sharpness at the outer edges, and a reduction in chromatic aberrations that can sometimes be seen with high-resolution digital SLRs. Canon EF 17-40mm F4 L USM A new and affordable L-series ultra-wide-angle zoom lens that's ideal for both film and digital SLRs. Superior optics are assured by the use of three Aspherical lens elements, in addition to a Super UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass element. Optical coatings are optimized for use with digital cameras. Blackmagics Design 8TB Cloudstore is a RIP OFF .....Get this instead

Cine 2024-10-09 | The Terramaster F8 Plus is pretty amazing. Its cheap, which we like. Its powerful, which we love and it is absolutely a better buy than a Blackmagic Design Cloudstore.

With eight M.2 slots, powerful hardware, and 10GbE connectivity, the F8 SSD Plus is the next-gen NAS server we've been waiting for.

If you've used NAS servers with traditional hard drives in the past but want to switch to M.2 storage, the F8 SSD Plus should be at the top of your list. The NAS server has a significantly smaller profile than regular NAS servers, but you still get eight M.2 slots. The Intel i3-N305 platform delivers outstanding performance, and you get 16GB of RAM as standard. There's 10GbE connectivity, an HDMI port, and USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports that allow you to add additional drives down the line. The software still has a few quirks, but if you want to set up an enthusiast NAS server exclusively with M.2 storage, the F8 SSD Plus is the best overall choice right now.

Cine 2024-09-25 | Viltrox's DC-X3 6" Touchscreen HDMI/SDI Monitor has a SUPER bright, sharp display, which is simply one of the best monitors we have used sub 300 dollars.

The DC-X3 supports up to DCI/UHD 4K30 via the HDMI and 3G-SDI video input and can send the signal to other displays through HDMI and SDI loop-through outputs. This model features multiple image tools such as histogram and waveform, and its 2000 cd/m² brightness makes it suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

Cine 2024-05-30 | The Zhiyun Molus B500 is by far the smallest most powerful COB LED that we have ever used on set. It's not the quietest lamp under full load, but it certainly packs a punch, it is super bright.

The Pyxis 6k wasn’t as CHEAP as I thought!

Cine 2024-04-27 | Today I ordered everything for an L-Mount Pyxis 6k from Blackmagic design. Even though I own a lot of camera accessories, the final bill still racked up quick. Granted not everyone is going to for a lot of the accessories I have, but this video is a good example of what it could cost if you want to get the most from your PYXIS 6k and have as few compromises as possible.

The BEST Products of NAB 2024

Cine 2024-04-18 | With the NAB 2024 show official over, let’s explore the best product announcements.

By far Blackmagic Design stole the NAB 2024 show with the announcement of the PYXIS 6k and new Ursa 12k Full Frame and 17k IMAX cinema cameras. But they weren't the only products blackmagic announced as they dropped a new mirco panel for resolve, DaVinci Resolve19, and a slew of new live production equipment.

But a bunch of really important product announcements also came on the eve of the show from with NiSi announcing their 18, 40 and 135, Athena primes. Fujinon announced it Duvo HZK 14-100mm portable zoom lens.
Atlas announced the 18, 135 and 200mm Orion 2x anamorphic. Irix dropped a 65mm T1.5 prime for preorder. Venus optics slashed the price of their 12mm Zero D lens to 1200 USD. Then announced a set of 3 Loawa ranger zooms. An 11-18, 17-50 and a 50-130 all t2.9 and PL mount.
Tokina added 40, 65, 105 and 135mm lenses to the Vista P range.
And the Tuner module 8 released versions for x and l mount cameras.

So this could almost be called the YEAR of lenses.

But Las Vegas also found itself host to a huge amount of new lights from Chimera announced their tubePRO light banks. Nanette expanded the PAVO slim line with a 240B, 240c and 60CL. Aperture announced new pro apps and the infinimat lighting system. Lumewall produced a new green screen lighting set. And ARRI announced their new L series plus LED fresnels and kino flow announced the club ikon 6.

But the biggest product news on the eve of NAB 2024 was from DJI with the release of the new DJI ronin RS4 PRO and FOCUS PRO systems.

Both are revolutionary large format digital film cameras with RGBW sensor, 16 stops of dynamic range and Blackmagic RAW syncing to DaVinci Resolve.
