So embedding the nanothermite with a polymer material that quickly vaporizes and expands is what creates the explosion. Kevin talks about needing something to do PV work. That means pressure-volume work.In physics work is computed as (force) x (distance the force moves something). You can say you "do work on" something or you could say you "give energy" to the thing. Energy is transferred by doing work: they are both measured in the same units (foot-pounds or Newton-meters 😊 Joules)). (Newtons, like pounds, measure force. You can see both of these units for work arise from F x d.) Pressure is force per unit area, so Pressure x Volume would be N / m^2 x m^3 = N m. So pressure x volume produces work as well. An expanding gas does work (such as pushing on a piston in your car engine) by expanding under pressure.A propellant also involves an expanding gas, but in this case the gas is thrown out in a particular direction by a rocket causing the rocket to be pushed in the opposite direction. You wouldn't propel a rocket with TNT because you don't want to blow up the rocket. You want to push more gently on it over an extended period of time. So it is a matter of how fast you want the energetic material to generate energy. Like the explosive, a rocket needs expanding gasses, not just the generation of high temperatures, but it's a matter of having a controlled burn rate. The thing about nanothermite that is even hyped in the literature by its manufacturers is that it is "tunable." It can be used as an incendiary, a propellant, or an explosive, depending on the formulation and the design of the device. University Study Finds Fire Did Not Cause Building 7’s Collapse on 9/11 The 9/11 WarRoom 2023-09-30 | On March 25, 2020, researchers at the University of Alaska Fairbanks issued the final report of a four-year computer modeling study on the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7.The 47-story WTC 7 was the third skyscraper to be completely destroyed on September 11, 2001, collapsing rapidly and symmetrically into its footprint at 5:20 PM. Seven years later, investigators at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) concluded that WTC 7 was the first steel-framed high-rise ever to have collapsed solely as a result of normal office fires.Contrary to the conclusions of NIST, the UAF research team found that the collapse of WTC 7 on 9/11 was caused not by fires but by the near-simultaneous failure of every column in the building.Following the release of this report, AE911Truth and 10 family members of 9/11 victims submitted a formal request for correction to NIST’s report on WTC 7 based partially on the UAF findings. They are now suing NIST over the agency's evasive response to the request. The US Court of Appeals for the D.C.
