Are you ready to face the full-throttle rotating freefall experience of Slammer?Colossus Off Ride | Thorpe Park in 4K 60fpsCoaster Clips2024-09-15 | Opening back in 2002, Colossus was the World's first roller coaster to feature 10 inversions (upside-down moments) and although it's a rough ride by modern standards, this iconic coaster will always be resposible for putting Thorpe Park on the thrill map. Even though it stands at less than 100 ft tall, with a vertical loop, 2 corkscrews, a cobra roll and 5 heartline rolls, the ride held the global inversion record for over a decade until the Smiler opened in 2013 with 14 inversions, a benchmark which has not been surpassed, or even equalled since.
The ride was manufactured by Intamin, who have also produced a series of near-clones of the ride: Monte Makaya at Terra Encantada, Avalancha at Xetulul and Flight of the Phoenix at Harborland were all built with almost identical layouts as Colossus, but with a helix in place of the final two heartline rolls. There is one identical clone - the aptly named 10 inversion roller coaster at Chimelong Paradise in China. Intamin has since released an upgraded 10 inversion model featuring a reworked first drop, new trains and a beefier support structure. 5 of these coasters have been built since 2014, including Altair at Cinecittà World and Sik at Flamingo Land in the same country.
With the opening of Hyperia nextdoor in 2024, Colossus has received the first part of a 2 year facelift - if you look closely you can see where the new paint stops!Nemesis Inferno Off Ride | Thorpe Park in 4K 60fpsCoaster Clips2024-09-08 | Whilst it's not the most famous coaster called Nemesis in the UK, this B&M invert still packs a punch, boasting a snappy layout with 4 inversions and a buffet of positive G forces. Nemesis Inferno opened back in 2003 hot on the heels of Colossus, the park's first major roller coaster, which truly put Thorpe Park on the map. Starting with a neat pre-lift section through a tunnel, the ride experience features a vertical loop, a zero-G roll and two interlocking corkscrews, along with a forceful helix. Even then, it's still dwarfed by Hyperia and Stealth in the same park!
Since Batman: The Ride opened at Six Flags Great Adventure in 1992, there have 31 B&M inverted coastes built, making the model one of the most commercially successful and well known rides worldwide. Reaching speeds of just under 50 mph, Nemesis Inferno may technically be the slowest of its ride type, but it still retains the signature intensity of the model. Other famous B&M inverts spread across the world include Nemesis at Alton Towers, Raptor at Cedar Point, Great Bear at Hersheypark, Monster at Grona Lund, Montu at Busch Gardens Tampa, Katun at Mirabilandia, Silver Bullet at Knott's Berry Farm and Banshee at King's Island. The Swarm Off Ride | Thorpe Park Resort in 4K 60fpsCoaster Clips2024-09-01 | The UK's first winged roller coaster, this thrilling 127 ft tall ride reaches speeds of 59 mph and inverts riders 4 times over its 2,500 ft long layout. Hot on the heels of Gardaland's Raptor, the first Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) wing coaster, The Swarm opened back in 2012 as the park's 7th roller coaster and was the newest until Hyperia opened this year. This coaster was the first to feature a dive drop, an iconic element that is now a signature feature of its model type which features on 10 of the 19 B&M wing coasters installed worldwide. This model is also renowned for near-miss elements, and this apocalypse themed coaster features some of the best ones, including a dive under an aeroplane wing, through a billboard and an inline twist through the ruins of a church.
The UK's second winged coaster, Mandrill Mayhem, opened in 2023 at Chessington World of Adventures and offers a very different ride experience to the Swarm as a launched shuttle coaster. Other famous wing coasters around the World include Gatekeeper at Cedar Point, Flug der Dämonen at Heide Park, Thunderbird at Holiday World, Wild Eagle at Dollywood, Parrot coaster at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, Fēnix at Toverland, X-Flight at Six Flags Great America and the tallest of the lot, Falcon at Wuxi Sunac Land in China. The newest wing coaster, Rapterra, opens next year at King's Dominion.Saw - The Ride Off Ride | Thorpe Park Resort in 4K 60 fpsCoaster Clips2024-08-25 | The World's first horror movie-themed roller coaster, this Gerstlaurer eurofighter boasts an intense ride experience with a beyond-vertical 100 degree drop, 3 inversions, loads of ejector airtime and some of the best theming in the UK. Centred around Jigsaw's warehouse from the eponymous Saw movie franchise, the ride starts with an extensive indoor section featuring an in-line twist, before a vertical lift hill leads to a 100ft drop and a fast-paced layout featuring an immelman, overbanked turn and a snappy dive loop. Its drop is the UK's second steepest, after Flamingo Land's Mumbo Jumbo surpassed it by just 2 degrees, but is untrimmed and therefore offers much stronger airtime. Saw opened in 2009 and is one of 26 rides of its model type - all of which are still operating - and the third in the UK, after Speed at Oakwood and Rage at Adventure Island. Other famous examples include TMNT Shellraiser at Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park (the world's steepest roller coaster), Mystery Mine at Dollywood, Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia, Takabisha at Fuji-Q Highland, Flucht von Novgorod at Hansa-Park and SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge at Nickelodeon Universe. The opening of this ride marked the start of a series of darker themed attractions at Merlin parks, including Th13teen and the Smiler at Alton Towers, along with The Swarm and the Walking Dead: The Ride in the same park.
Did you know there is a near-clone of Saw - The Ride, with an identical indoor section called Abyssus at Adventure World in Australia?Stealth Off Ride | Thorpe Park Resort in 4K 60fpsCoaster Clips2024-08-18 | With the recent closure of Do-Dodonpa at Fuji-Q Highland, Stealth at Thorpe Park is now the fastest accelerating roller coaster in the World, boasting a powerful hydraulic launch which catapults riders to 80 mph in just 1.8 seconds. Even though its 205 ft height and top speed have (just about) been surpassed this year in the park by Hyperia, you won't find a better first launch anywhere else. Stealth opened back in 2006 as the UK's second Intamin accelerator coaster, hot on the heels of Rita at Alton Towers a year earlier. It is surely the definition of a "short and sweet" ride, with just three major elements: an exhilirating launch, a 205-ft tall top hat that just about pushes it into hypercoaster territory and finally, an airtime-packed speed hill into magnetic brakes. It's just under half the size of Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure and Top Thrill Dragster (now Top Thrill 2) at Cedar Point, but this might be why it's certainly aged more gracefully than its American counterparts.
Did you know that Stealth's launch is based on Aircraft carrier technology?Hyperia Off Ride | Thorpe Park Resort in 4K 60fpsCoaster Clips2024-08-11 | As the UK's new tallest and fastest roller coaster, this jaw-dropping Mack hyper coaster is the country's most anticipated new ride in two decades. Does it live up to the hype? In my opinion, absolutely.
Although it's one of the shorter hyper coasters on the planet, Hyperia packs so much into its compact layout, including a twisted beyond vertical drop, three giant inversions and relentless ejector airtime throughout. Reaching speeds of 80 mph from a 236 ft tall lift hill, the ride towers over the rest of the park's coaster collection, combining elements from all of them to make the UK's biggest and best roller coaster (there, I said it!). Particular highlights include the gut wrenching first drop which is best enjoyed in the back, the sustained airtime off the immelman, the hangtime on stalled dive loop and the ride's most iconic element, an outward banked airtime hill that throws you into a barrel roll downdrop. Stealth, Saw, Nemesis Inferno and Swarm are all excellent coasters, but none of them can quite match Hyperia's raw intensity, which is certainly a step up from the Mack LSM launched coasters such as Icon, Blue Fire, Helix and Copperhead Strike.HeadSpin | Model Knex SkyLoop Roller CoasterCoaster Clips2024-08-02 | My tallest and fastest micro K'nex model roller coaster to date, HeadSpin is inspired by the real-life Maurer AG (formerly Maurer Söhne) SkyLoop coasters. These rides are known for their iconic loveheart-like structures which feature giant vertical lift hills that double back on themselves to leave riders dangling upside-down 150 ft off the ground, before an inline twist leads to their main drop. Unfortunately, Mauer AG only ever made ten of these coasters and just one of them, Abismo at Parque de Atracciones de Madrid, has an extended layout featuring extra track after the first drop. I've tried to rectify that by building a compact new layout which features a near-inverting overbanked turn, a dive loop and ending in several airtime hills. Unlike Abismo, this ride is not a shuttle coaster and ends in a brake run - allowing it to run two trains!
Other famous examples of SkyLoop coasters include Ukko at Linnanmäki, X Coaster at Magic Springs Theme and Water Park, Sky Wheel and Skyline Park and the now relocated BuzzSaw at Dreamland. The ride type was also copied by Beijing Shibaolai Amusement Equipment and as a result, 12 more rides with the SkyLoop element have been built across the world.Nemesis | Original vs Reborn - Shot by Shot Comparison | Alton Towers ResortCoaster Clips2024-07-14 | After spending a whole year closed for refurbishment, Alton Towers' most iconic roller coaster has evolved! See what's changed in this before and after comparison, featuring shots taken from (almost) the exact same location.
Since the original ride closed back in 2022, about 75% of the old track and supports of this B&M invert have been replaced. With a new look, a new soundtrack and a wide variety of theming enhancements, Nemesis may seem very different to how it looked when it first opened in 1994, but the ride experience remains as breathtaking as ever. No changes were made to the layout itself, which still boasts 4 inversions (two corkscrews, a zero-G roll and a vertical loop), speeds of 50 mph and upwards of 3.5 Gs. What has changed are some of some of the support structures in high stress areas of the ride, which should help future proof this beloved attraction for generations to come and likely allow it to run for longer than the 28 years the orginal managed.Rita Off Ride | Alton Towers Resort in 4K 60fpsCoaster Clips2024-06-15 | Launching riders to 61 mph in just 2.5 seconds, this Intamin accelerator coaster certainly packs a punch. Rita, a reverse acronym for "Alton Towers Intamin Rocket", opened back in 2005 as the first coaster of its type in Europe following the stateside successes of Knott's Berry Farm's Accelerator, Cedar Point's Top Thrill Dragster and Hersheypark's Stormrunner. This made it briefly the fastest accelerating coaster in Europe before being surpassed by another coaster in the same chain - Stealth at Thorpe Park, which opened just a year later. Whilst Stealth shoots riders directly up a 205 ft top hat, the tight planning restrictions at Alton Towers once again forced the park to come up with a more creative layout. As a result, Rita offers a slightly longer ride experience than most other hydraulic launch coasters, with the ride's two trains swooping through a series of steeply banked turns and airtime hills instead.
When it opened as part of the park's prehistoric themed "Ug Land" as Rita: Queen of Speed, the ride had more of a lighter racing theme. When the neighbouring Corkscrew coaster closed in 2008 to be replaced by Th13teen, the darker theme of the new coaster necessitated a retheme for the pre-existing Intamin coaster. The Queen of speed suffix was dropped and vines consumed the station building as part of the "takeover" of the Dark Forest, from which you "must escape". Scaffolding, which was intially believed to be temporary, was added a few years later to protect guests walking under the ride's launch after a series of launch cable snaps.
Did you know that Heide Park, a German park also owned by Merlin Entertainments, operates a near-clone of Rita known as Desert Race?Nemesis Reborn Off Ride | Alton Towers Resort in 4K 60fpsCoaster Clips2024-06-09 | The UK's most intense roller coaster is back - with a vengeance! Since the original ride closed back in 2022, this iconic B&M inverted roller coaster has undergone an extensive refurbishment, with about 75% of the old track and supports having been replaced. What has changed are some of some of the support structures in high stress areas of the ride, which should help future proof this beloved attraction for generations to come and likely allow it to run for longer than the 28 years the orginal managed.
What do you think of the changes made to Nemesis? With other fan favourite attractions such as Oblivion and Galactica reaching the 20-25 year mark, do you think we'll see similar refurbishments for them in a few years time?T Express Off Ride | Everland Resort in 4K 60fpsCoaster Clips2023-10-27 | Boasting an incredible 14 ejector airtime moments and a top speed of 64 mph, this gigantic wooden roller coaster is one of the most iconic rides in Asia. Standing at 183.8 feet (56 metres) tall, it's also the World's tallest wooden roller coaster, a record it shares with Wildfire, Kolmarden's RMC topper track coaster. Due to its terrain twister layout, its drop is somewhat smaller, but the ride makes up for this with its length; with over 5,300 feet of track, it's also the 5th longest wooden roller coaster in the World. It's not the tallest wooden coaster ever built though - that record belongs to the infamous and dangerously flawed Son of Beast at King's Island that was shut down just 9 years after opening.
Following hot on the heels of Heide Park's Colossos, Balder at Liseberg and El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure, T Express opened in 2009 as the fourth prefabricated wooden coaster built by Intamin. This innovative ride type differs from other traditional woodies in that the track is manufactured in segments by factory machine tools, rather than being assembled on site by hand, saving time and enhancing smoothness. However, as the industry moved on, no more of this highly rated ride type have been built anywhere else - would you like to see more?
When it opened, T Express was the longest, tallest, steepest and fastest roller coaster in South Korea, but the last three of those records have since been surpassed by Draken at Gyeongju World in 2018, a B&M Dive Coaster. Still the only wooden roller coaster in Korea, the ride is sponsored by T Money, which is where the ride gets its name.
Everland is located just outside of Seoul and is also home to Rolling X Train, a classic Arrow Loopscrew and the now defunct Eagle Fortress, a legendary terrain susended coaster.

As its name suggests, this thrilling flat ride was one of the earliest installations of Intamin's Gyro Swing model and whilst not the biggest, it is certainly one of the most famous, soaring out over Seoul's Han River on one side, and the Atlantis Adventure roller coaster on the other. Other installations of this ride type include Maelstrom at Drayton Manor, The Claw at Dreamworld, Super Gyro Swing at Happy Valley Shanghai, Loke at Liseberg, Goliath at Adventure World and the largest of the lot - Tigeren at Djurs Sommerland.
Unfortunately, the ride runs an incredibly short cycle (which is masked somewhat by this video), but it's still a ton of fun!French Revolution Off Ride | Lotte World Seoul in 4K 60fpsCoaster Clips2023-10-06 | There's much more to this classic 1989 Vekoma looping coaster than meets the eye from this off-ride POV video. Whilst its iconic vertical loop is French Revolution's best known element, much of this coaster's sprawling layout is enclosed in tunnels adorned with flashing lights and even includes some surprise airtime along with a powerful helix finale. Despite all this, it clocks in as the shortest of the 8 custom MK-1200 coasters made by Vekoma at just over 2,000 feet and only features just one inversion.
Along with the Parisian theming, one of the best things about this ride is its indoor location - which has helped preserve the ride's smoothness and kept it running well even after 34 years. It would also be rude not to mention the awesome path that perfectly threads the ride's loop, giving guests fantastic views of the ride soaring overhead. If only it ran more than one train...

As the tallest and fastest drop tower in the country of South Korea, this attraction combines stunning views of the capital before plunging its riders back down to Earth with some punch. Built by Intamin AG, the same manufacturer that designed many of the other nearby rides on the "Magic Island" section of the park, including Atlantis Adventure, Comet Express and Gyro Swing. Other installations of this exact ride type include Acrophobia at Six Flags over Georgia, Scream at Heide Park, Drop Zone at Kings Island, UFO at Aborginal Cultural Village and the tallest of them all, AtmosFear at Liseberg.

Kickstarted by an LSM launch, this one-of-a-kind Intamin Aquatrax coaster boasts one of the most intense and airtime-filled layouts you'll find on a compact coaster anywhere, and punches well above its dimunutive size. With over 2,000 feet of twists, turns and hills through stunning theming it's no wonder this ride has attained cult status amongst roller coaster enthusiasts.

Like all the rides at the park planning restrictions forbidding construction above the park's treeline forced the ride's designers to be creative. It might be one of the smallest ride designed by Great Coasters International (GCI), but it certainly punches above its weight with loads of airtime, lateral forces and several passes through the giant themed Wicker Man sculpture. The ride also features a fantastic pre-show (no spoilers here!) and a unique lift hill that changes its gradient midway through, presumably to work with the terrain of the site, which was previously home to a much-loved Alton Towers attraction - The Flume, which operated in the same location between 1981 and 2015.
It might not quite have the white knuckle moments as the park's other coasters such as Nemesis, Oblivion, The Smiler or Rita, but it's an excellently rounded thrill coaster that was running really well when this footage was captured!Nemesis Reconstruction Update - June 2023 | Alton Towers ResortCoaster Clips2023-06-11 | After falling silent in 2022, the UK's most iconic roller coaster is preparing to return for the 2024 season sporting new track and various upgrades to future-proof the ride for years to come. When Nemesis first opened in 1994, it was the first inverted coaster in Europe - a pioneering ride that pushed the boundaries of roller coaster technology. It quickly built a long lasting repuation as the one of the world's most intense roller coaster experiences, but this wasn't without its drawbacks. Although it was perfectly safe and smooth until the very end, after 28 years of continous exposure to forces up to 5G, the track and supports reached the end of their service life in 2022, giving the park no choice but to remove or replace it. This is a very similar situation to that of the Incredible Hulk at Universal's Islands of Adventure in Florida, which opened in 1999, closed in 2015 and reopened in 2016. Something similar is expected to happen soon to Vampire, Chessington's 33-year old Arrow Suspended coaster.
As the parks' best and most widely known roller coaster, Alton Towers thankfully made the choice to extensively refurbish and retrack this historic attraction over the 2023 season. Although there will be no changes to the ride's exhilirating layout, 89 of Nemesis' support columns and all the ride's track from the top of the lift hill to the start of the brake run are in the process of being replaced. However there will undoubtedly be changes to the ride's design; as only the fourth Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) invert to open, there have been copious improvements to the model and general roller coaster design since it opened. The forces exerted on the structrure over the years have exposed deficiencies in the ride's design particuarly the problematic downward helix, the most intense part of the ride, which was heavily modified over the years and will receive extra supports this year. There are likely to be some small profiling changes, along with strenghtening of the supports and footers but fortunately the ride experience should remain as fun and forceful as ever. The ride will also be receiving new trains too.
As part of the refurbishment Nemesis seems to be undergoing a massive thematic facelift to upgrade the ride's story for the 21st century. The new track colour, all black with a red accent, is the most striking change so far, but changes are also happening to the Nemesis creature that serves as the ride's station. A retelling of the Nemesis story is also underway featuring the Phalnx, the mysterious organisation tasked with guarding and restraining the Nemesis creature. This is the subject of Nemesis Sub-Terra, a neighbouring actor-led dark ride and drop tower that finally reopened this year after 8 years of closure.
How excited are you to ride Nemesis again? And what do you think of the new track colour?Phantom | Knex Multi Looping Model Roller CoasterCoaster Clips2022-12-23 | Sporting 3 inversions and a next-generation track style, my latest model K'nex roller coaster is made out of both micro and classic pieces, and inspired by the B&M floorless coaster type. In real-life, there are 16 of these coasters around the world, with famous installations including Rougarou at Cedar Point, Daemonen at Tivoli Gardens, Kraken at Sea World Orlando, Hair Raiser at Ocean Park and Dominator at Kings Dominion. This is certainly the most realistic ride I've built so far, thanks to brand new tubular spine and support designs which help the train conserve momentum better than my previous builds.
The ride starts with a pre-lift section, lift hill and a curved drop inspired by Scream and Medusa, at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Great Adventure respectively . A vertical loop gives way to a high-speed airtime hill and an immelman, which leads into a downward heartline roll, overbanked turn and finally, a little pop of airtime just before the brake run.Mumbo Jumbo Offride 4K Flamingo Land ResortCoaster Clips2022-10-06 | Once the World's steepest roller coaster, Mumbo Jumbo features one of the craziest track layouts and first drop of any ride out there. Starting with its signature 112° drop from 30 metres, the coaster boasts a barrage of wacky elements, including an outward banked turn, a hangtime-filled dive loop and the best of the lot - a downward inline twist.
Designed by S&S, the coaster opened back in 2009 as the second installation of the El Loco model after Steel Hawg at Indiana Beach, and features an identical layout. The only difference between this and the prototype is the drop angle - which differs by just one degree to break the record! After two years, Mumbo Jumbo was dethroned by Timber Drop at Fraspertuis City in France, once again by just one degree. The current record holder is TMNT Shellraiser at Nickelodeon Universe in New Jersey at a whopping 121.5 degrees! Mumbo Jumbo is now just the 7th steepest coaster in the world.Sik Offride 4K Flamingo Land ResortCoaster Clips2022-09-29 | Flamingo Land’s newest and longest roller coaster, this dizzying ride sends its riders upside down 10 times during its 875 metres of twisted track. Sik boasts a 33 metre tall lift hill, a vertical loop, a cobra roll, 2 corkscrews and, for its finale, 5 inline twists – all experienced with just a lap bar restraint. Seem familiar? That’s because this layout is an upgraded version of Colossus at Thorpe park, the world’s first 10 inversion coaster, which opened back in 2001. Along with different trains, Sik features a beefed up track design and a reprofiled first drop which offers more airtime than the original design. Unsurprisingly, this makes Sik much smoother and more forceful than Colossus. However, neither coaster has as many inversions as The Smiler at Alton Towers, which took the World record in 2013 with 14 upside down moments.
Even though Sik gave its first rides in 2022, the ride’s hardware was actually manufactured more than a decade ago and has a chequered past. Sik was the first of 4 exact clones that operate elsewhere in the world, including Altair at Cinecittà World and Crazy Coaster at Loca Joy Holiday Theme park, but somehow ended up being the last to open. The coaster was initially supposed to open in 2012 on the other side of the world at a park called Hopi Hari in Brazil, but due to financial problems, it was never set up. Five years later it was shipped over to Malaysia to Movie Animation Park Studios in 2017, but once again, the project never got off the ground and the park has been closed two years later. The ride was then shipped to the UK and was almost complete when the COVID-19 pandemic struck – delaying its opening by another two years. Thankfully it finally opened this year as Flamingo Land’s 10th roller coaster, to complement the park’s lineup that already includes Velocity, Kumali, Hero, Mumbo Jumbo and Cliffhanger.
Sik might make you more than a little queasy, but the ride's bizarre name actually comes from a partnership with SikSilk, a local clothing brand.Spinball Whizzer Offride 4K Alton Towers ResortCoaster Clips2022-08-11 | This surprisingly intense spinning roller coaster is often overlooked amongst Alton Towers' battery of highly themed thrill rides, but Spinball Whizzer still fills an important niche in the park's lineup. With just over 450 metres of seriously twisted track but a modest speed of 37 miles per hour, it offers a ride experience the whole family can enjoy. The ride is perfect for younger visitors who want a more thrilling ride experience than Octonauts Roller Coaster Adventure and the Runaway Mine Train, but aren't quite yet ready for more aggressive rides like The Smiler, Nemesis, Oblivion and Rita. It was previously themed to Sonic & SEGA between 2010 and 2015, when it operated under the name of Sonic Spinball.
This ride was manufactured by Maurer Rides GmbH, but did you know that another spinning coaster by the same manufacturer, Dragon's Fury at Chessington World of Adventures, opened on the same day in the same country when both parks were owned by Tussauds? That day was the 27th March 2004, and other famous installations of this ride type include Winjas at Phantasialand, Crush's coaster at Disneyland Paris, Laff Trakk at Hersheypark and Tarantula at Parque de Atracciones de Madrid.Oblivion Offride 4K Alton Towers ResortCoaster Clips2022-08-04 | Don't look down! This giant vertical drop roller coaster at Alton Towers might only stand 20 metres above terra firma, but the most intense part of this ride is hidden underground. Oblivion's signature element plunges its riders over 50 metres (180 feet) into a pitch-black tunnel, reaching speeds of 68 mph and a G-force of 4.5. With just an overbanked turn between the drop and brake run, Oblivion is very much a one trick pony, but to this day it still boasts one of the best roller coaster drops ever made.
Following on from the success of Nemesis in 1994, Alton Towers wanted their next ride to be a unique showstopper and decided to once again work with Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), the Swiss manufacturer who also made Air (now Galactica) in 2002. During the 1997 and 1998 seasons, Oblivion's construction was shrouded in secrecy as it was the World's first roller coaster to feature a vertical drop and the first B&M dive machine. 15 more dive machines have been built since Oblivion opened in 1998, including Diving Machine G5, a mirrored clone of Oblivon at Janfusun Fancyworld in Taiwan. Other famous installations include Valravn at Cedar Point, Yukon Striker at Canada's Wonderland, Sheikra at Busch Gardens Tampa, Griffon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Baron 1898 at Efteling and most recently, Dr Diabolical's Cliffhanger at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, which is the first Dive Machine to have a beyond vertical drop.
Did you know the Oblivion logo on the side of the train is at a 90 degree angle, so it's only positioned the correct way up when the train is on the vertical drop?Nemesis Offride 4K Alton Towers ResortCoaster Clips2021-08-13 | Ever since it opened in 1994, this iconic inverted roller coaster has been one of the UK's very best and most iconic attractions. Despite being built entirely below the treeline to meet planning laws, Nemesis manages to subject its riders to 3Gs, 4 powerful inversions and reaches a top speed of 50 mph over 715 metres of track thanks to its situation in a man-made valley. With its unique location, near-misses and intense layout, it's not hard to see why it's ranked as one of the world's best B&M inverted coasters. As only the 4th ride of its kind to be built, Nemesis was the coaster that truly put Alton Towers on the map, giving the park licence to build other groundbreaking attractions such as Oblivion, the world's first vertical drop coaster and Air (now Galactica), the world's first B&M flying coaster. What's your favourite ride at the park?Big One Offride 4K Blackpool Pleasure BeachCoaster Clips2021-08-06 | Towering 65 metres over the streets of Blackpool, it's hard to think of a more iconic ride in the UK than this classic Arrow hyper coaster! Although once the World's tallest roller coaster, even after 27 years the aptly named ride remains the record holder for the UK. It is also currently the second fastest, with its maximum of 74 mph being only just 6 mph shy of Thorpe Park's Stealth. After a rocky opening season, Big One has undergone extensive retracking and reprofiling over the years to correct design defects, particularly on the first drop and turnaround. The most recent work was completed in early 2021 and can be seen in this video as the brighter red track sections. Did you know some of the old track pieces were incorporated into the walls of the building that now houses Valhalla?
This National Landmark was one of three groundbreaking coasters that opened in the UK 1994, alongside Shockwave at Drayton Manor and Nemesis at Alton Towers. Back then, the ride was known as the Pepsi Max Big One although most of the branding (except for the can-themed tunnel) has since been removed. Check out how the ride interacts with some of the other coasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, especially the Big Dipper, Icon and Infusion! Its compact layout features 3 inversions, including a vertical loop, cutback and heartline roll, along with its signature element - a thrilling 97° beyond vertical drop. The 22 metre tall roller coaster is the signature attraction at Adventure Island, a small seaside amusement park in Southend-on-sea, Essex. Opening back in 2007, Rage was the very first 320+ Eurofighter model built by Gerstlauer, with 4 clones having been built since. These include Falcon at Duinrell, Predator at IMG Worlds of Adventure and Canobie Lake Park's Untamed. There are also 2 more coasters, Hydrus and Adrenaline Peak, that sport very similar layouts but lack the 360° helix finale. Overall, there are over 24 different Gerstlauer Eurofighters operating worldwide, with more well known installations including Mystery Mine at Dollywood, Takabisha at Fuji-Q Highland in Japan and Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags over Georgia. British viewers might notice similarities to Thorpe Park's Saw the ride and Speed at Oakwood - these are the same type of coaster too!
The park is also home to 4 more coasters, including Green Scream and Mini Mighty Mighty Mega. The free-to-enter amusement park is also known for its collection of unique and intense flat rides, particularly Axis, Dragon's Claw and Time Machine.Axis Offride 4K Adventure Island SouthendCoaster Clips2020-09-18 | The newest attraction at Adventure Island, this terrifying frisbee ride sends riders through a full 360 degrees of rotation, leaving guests dangling upside down 32 metres (104 feet) in the air. As a blue band attraction, Axis is one of the most intense rides at Adventure Island alongside Time Machine, Dragon's Claw and the park's signature attraction, the Gerstlauer Eurofighter Rage. Axis was manufactured by the SBF Visa Group and is one of 9 Maxi Dance Party 360 models currently operating worldwide. Spincycle at Silverwood Theme Park in Idaho is probably the best known installation of the 9, which are all located in different countries. Adventure Island can be found in Southend-on-sea in the county of Essex, UK.Vertigo | 6ft Tall KNEX Polercoaster (4K)Coaster Clips2020-08-14 | Inspired by the polercoaster concept pioneered by US Thrill Rides and Intamin, my latest creation features over 26 metres of track twisting around a central tower, making it the longest micro K'nex (VV) coaster ever built. The ride layout includes 7 inversions, 8 airtime moments, a beyond vertical drop and a first of its kind spiral lift. This model is a product of 3 years of building assisted by the kind members of SSCoasters.net.
Vertigo stands at 2.01 metres (6.59 feet) tall and the two halves of the layout are designed to duel if the timing is right! The top part of the layout contains tight turns and Eurofighter-style inversions, whilst the other half features fast airtime hills and sweeping overbanked turns.
Whilst none of the polercoasters planned have left the drawing board, they offer big thrills in a compact footprint by distributing track around a gigantic spire. The most promising prospect in the pipeline is the 500ft tall "Skyscraper" planned for Mango's Tropical Cafe development project on International Drive in Orlando, Florida.Dæmonen Offride 4K Tivoli GardensCoaster Clips2020-05-29 | Despite being the smallest floorless coaster manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, the intensity and picturesque setting of this ride more than make up for it. Built in 2004 to replace the Slangen coaster, Dæmonen ("the Demon") boasts 3 inversions over its 560 metres of track, including a vertical loop, immelman, zero-G roll and a unique pre-drop section. However, the coaster is best known for its stunning waterside location by the Tivoli gardens boating lake, which transforms at night. The 28-metre tall coaster is located in the Chinese-themed area of the park, alongside other thrilling attractions like the Golden Tower, Fantamorgana and Vertigo, a unique attraction purported to be the most intense flat ride on the planet. The downtown Copenhagen park is one of the most visited theme parks in Europe, with other famous rides including Tik Tak, Star Flyer, Mælkevejen and the 1914 wooden scenic railway Rutschebanen.Vertigo Offride 4K Tivoli GardensCoaster Clips2020-05-22 | Disclaimer: this footage is not sped up! Widely regarded by enthusiasts to be the most intense flat ride on Earth, this Technical Park flying fury in Copenhagen is an attraction that truly lives up to its name. A modern take on vintage roll-a-plane rides, Vertigo sends its riders spinning around at up to 100 km/h, subjecting them to an incredible 5Gs of force (that's 5 times the weight of gravity!). That's not all - the plane itself is capable of rolling 360 degrees, dangling guests upside down in dizzying loops 30 metres in the air. There are actually 2 arms connected to the tower, but sadly only one was operating when this video was filmed.
As insane as this "plane on a stick" ride is, only one other ride of this type was ever made, which can be found in Europark Milan. Vertigo opened at Denmark's Tivoli Gardens in 2009, with other attractions at this famous theme park including Dæmonen (The Demon), Rutschebanen (Roller Coaster), Golden Tower, Mælkevejen (Milky Way), Star Flyer, Tik Tak, Aquila, Monsoon and Fantamorgana.Tivoli Gardens | 4K Cinematic PromoCoaster Clips2020-05-15 | Nestled into downtown Copenhagen, this stunning 8-hectare venue is one of the world’s most beautiful amusement parks. Despite its small size, Tivoli Gardens is also one of the most popular parks in Europe, attracting just shy of 5 million visitors a year, making it the second-most popular seasonal amusement park in the world after Germany’s Europa Park. Part pleasure garden, part theme park, Tivoli Gardens is home to an eclectic mix of rides, including the compact B&M floorless coaster Dæmonen and Vertigo, a looping plane ride by Technical Park which is widely considered to be the most intense flat ride on Earth. The park is also home to Rutschebanen (“roller coaster”), a classic wooden scenic railway which opened all the way back in 1914. There are a diverse range of flat rides on offer too, including Fatamorgana, Aquila, Tik Tak, Golden Tower, Monsoon and Himmelskibet, a 260ft tall Star Flyer. In 2019, the park replaced two of its family coasters, Karavanen and Odinexpressen with updated models. Unfortunately, only one of these was open for our visit, since the Mack powered coaster Mælkevejen was still under construction at the time. Tivoli Gardens opened in 1843, making it the second-oldest operating amusement park in the world, after Bakken, which is located just 7 miles away.Bakken: 4K Cinematic PromoCoaster Clips2020-04-25 | Dating way back to 1583, this charming venue just outside of Copenhagen is the world's oldest operating amusement park. Bakken is currently home to 6 roller coasters, including the historic scenic railway Rutschebanen and Tornado, a one-of-a-kind indoor Intamin spinning coaster renowned for its intensity. Amongst its other attractions are Mine Train Ulven, Racing, Vilde Mus, Mariehønen, Extreme, double shot and Water slide, the park's log flume. However the crown jewel of the park is Spogelsesslottet, an old-school ghost train with a uniquely terrifying twist!
Officially short for Dyrehavsbakken ("The Deer Pasture's Hill"), the park operates on a pay per ride basis and has a funfair-like atmosphere. Its small size means that although most attractions are walk-ons, the paths between are packed with crowds. Don't forget to take a photo with Pjerrot the Clown - the park's historic mascot!Rutschebanen Offride 4K BakkenCoaster Clips2020-04-18 | The oldest roller coaster at the World's oldest amusement park, this classic side-friction woodie opened back in 1932 as the park's very first coaster. One of just 8 scenic railway-style coasters still standing, this particular ride is best known for its famed double down after the first turnaround, which used to provide standing airtime in the back row. Over its 850 metres of track, Rutschebanen treats its riders to a series of airtime hills, panoramic turns and ends in a long tunnel with a "unique" theme!
The ride was refurbished by KumbaK in 2010, with new trains and an automated braking system, replacing the traditional "brakeman" system, where a ride operator aboard the train manually controlled the ride's speed. Although the savings on maintenance may help preserve this classic coaster for years to come, the changes have unfortunately neutered the ride significantly, excessively bleeding speed and killing airtime. However, the ride has lost none of its old-school wooden charm, including its cable lift hill, which propels riders upwards at 5.5 m/sec.
Fortunately, the original brakeman-style trains can still be experienced on its sister ride, Vuoristorata at Linnanmäki, which is a near exact clone and the identically named Rutschebanen at Tivoli gardens, which can be found in central Copenhagen - just over 7 miles away! With extensive theming and far superior maintenance, Tivoli Garden's Rutschebanen is quite possibly the best preserved ride of its kind.
Although newer coasters have since been installed at Bakken, like the one-of-a-kind Intamin spinning coaster Tornado, Mine train Ulven and Racing, Rutschebanen is still the tallest and longest coaster in the park.Djurs Sommerland: 4K Cinematic PromoCoaster Clips2020-04-11 | Located in Midtjylland, Denmark, this 33-hectare family theme park boasts a fantastically diverse range of attractions for all ages. Although the park's attractions primarily cater for families and there are no inverting rides on the property, Djurs Sommerland is also home to some of the most thrilling attractions in Europe. These include Tigeren - one of Europe's tallest pendulum/frisbee rides, and Piraten, an Intamin Mega-lite which was ranked the 5th best coaster in the World back in 2008. The park contains some stellar mid-sized attractions for the whole family, including Juvelen - and Intamin launched coaster, DrageKongen - a family suspended coaster and Thor's Hammer, a wild mouse-style Gerstlauer bobsled coaster with tight turns and sudden drops.
Guests can enjoy a whole range of themed areas, including Piratland, Wild Asia, Mexicoland, Westernland, Vikingeland, Affrikaland, Sommerland, Bondegårdsland (Farm land) and Vandland, Djurs Sommerland's water park. Meanwhile, visitors can cool off on the park's various water rides, Skatteøen, Piratfisken, Solguden, log flume, Speedy Gonzales and Rio Grande rapids.Tigeren Offride 4K Djurs SommerlandCoaster Clips2020-03-27 | Reaching speeds of 100 km/h and a maximum swing height of 45 metres, this colossal Intamin Gyro Swing opened in 2019 is one of the most thrilling flat rides in Europe. Located in the Wild Asia section of the park, near the park's unique Intamin suspended coaster DrageKongen, Tigeren (meaning Tiger in Danish) is complete with some amazing theming, including a beautiful plaza, giant tiger sculptures and an immersive soundtrack. Along with the intense Intamin Mega-lite Piraten, Tigeren is one of the most extreme rides at this mostly family-orientated theme park located in Nimtofte, Midtjylland, Denmark.
Although slightly smaller, Loke at Liseberg is the same model as this one, and probably the more famous installation. Giant pendulum rides have become increasingly popular in recent years, with Zamperla Giant Discoveries being staple attractions across 9 Six Flags parks. The tallest of them (at the time of upload) is Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth at Six Flags Great Adventure which has an apogee of 172 feet, just 2 feet higher than CraZanity at Six Flags Magic Mountain.Thors Hammer Offride 4K Djurs SommerlandCoaster Clips2020-03-21 | Opening in 2002, this 1,500 ft long Gerstlauer bobsled is the oldest coaster at Djurs Sommerland and the ride that kickstarted the park's transformation from a small family attraction to one of the biggest theme parks in Scandinavia. The ride may have been superseded by more thrilling coasters like Piraten and DrageKongen, but still provides excellent family entertainment with its tight wild-mouse style turns and sharp drops. Themed to the Nordic God of thunder, this was the second Gerstlauer bobsled to open after G'sengte Sau at Erlebnispark Tripsdrill, which shares the exact same layout.Skatteøen Offride 4K Djurs SommerlandCoaster Clips2020-03-18 | It may not be the tallest, longest or most immersive water ride out there, but this Mack Rides water coaster sure is excellent all-round family fun - and makes a big splash. Built in 2011, Skatteøen (Danish for "Treasure Island") stands just under 100ft tall and has a total track length of about 1,500ft. The ride has also been cloned twice - identical coasters can also be found at Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark in Malaysia, as well as at Sea World on the Gold Coast of Australia. However, this particular type of coaster is probably most famous for some of its more heavily themed installations, particularly Poseidon at Europa Park and the Journey to Atlantis rides at SeaWorld Orlando and San Diego. The theming for Skatteøen was completed by MK themed attractions - check out the ride operators' Kraken costumes too!Piraten Offride 4K Djurs SommerlandCoaster Clips2020-03-13 | Featuring steep drops, sudden directional changes and outrageous ejector airtime, Intamin Mega-lites like this one in Denmark have become renowned by coaster enthusiasts worldwide. 5 of these models were sold between 2008 and 2017, with this being the second, opening hot on the heels of Kawasemi at Tobu Zoo. With Piraten ("Pirate" in Danish) being the only one in Europe, this instalment is probably the most famous and almost certainly the best roller coaster in Denmark. The ride is the crown jewel of Djurs Sommerland, a mostly family orientated park with no inverting rides, located in Nimtofte, Midtjylland.DrageKongen Offride 4K Djurs SommerlandCoaster Clips2020-03-06 | The newest thrill coaster at Djurs Sommerland, this immersive inverted coaster was designed with families in mind - but still packs a punch. Hitting speeds of over 50mph over its 2,700ft of track, DrageKongen ("Dragon King in Danish) also features a little surprise at the start of the ride experience, shooting its riders straight out of the station. DrageKongen is one of a myriad of Intamin attractions at this huge family theme park, which includes other world-class attractions such as Piraten, Juvelen and Tigeren.Tivoli Friheden: 4K Cinematic PromoCoaster Clips2020-02-27 | This quirky little theme park can be found tucked into a small corner of the city of Aarhus, Denmark. Originally opening as a picnic ground with a small restaurant back in 1903, the park is now home to 28 different rides and attractions, including 4 roller coasters. The most thrilling of these is Cobra - a one-of-a-kind inverted coaster by Sartori rides, which features 4 inversions, including the only cobra roll in the country. This is complemented by a Tyfonen, a Zamperla spinning coaster, in addition to 2 smaller family coasters, Dragen and Bisværmen. In 2019, the park opened Hjertekig, a 65-metre drop tower and the tallest in Denmark. However, the park will always be best known for its signature attraction which dominates the park's skyline - its terrifying SCAD tower. This insane attraction plunges guests from a height of 130ft in complete free fall, with "nothing but a net" to break their fall.
This video was filmed in August 2019, so it pays tribute to Pegasus, a Technical park flat ride, which has since been removed from the park. In 2020, the ride will be replaced by a taller, updated model from the same manufacturer, "Sky".Cobra Offride 4K Tivoli FrihedenCoaster Clips2020-02-20 | With three inversions and a height of 20 metres, this one of a kind inverted coaster is the signature roller coaster at Tivoli Friheden, a small amusement park located in the city of Aarhus, Denmark. Manufactured in 2008 by Sartori rides, this little coaster is compact but packs a punch, taking riders through a diving drop, an immelman and the only cobra roll in Denmark. The ride is possibly most famous for an incident that occurred just 6 days after opening where the first car derailed, injuring 4 people, which explains why no more coasters of this model were ever built. Fortunately, the ride reopened in May 2009 and has been safely thrilling park guests ever since.Liseberg 4K Cinematic Promo (2019)Coaster Clips2019-09-27 | Set in the heart of the Swedish city of Gothenburg, this stunning 42-acre theme park is home to some of the biggest and best attractions in Europe. Liseberg features 6 roller coasters, including the brand new B&M dive machine Valkyria, and the Intamin pre-fabricated woodie, Balder. To complement its coaster lineup, the park also boasts the 2nd tallest drop tower in Europe, Atmosfear and one of the best European giant frisbee rides in Loke. On top of this, the park also contains an excellent selection of water rides in Kållerado and flume ride. Themed after the park's mascot, Liseberg also hosts an array of kids rides in Kaninlandet (the Rabbit Land), including the new 2020 dark ride Underland. The flat ride opened back in 2017 as the first attraction in a 2 part capital expansion that concluded with Valkyria, the park's B&M dive coaster, the year after. In keeping with the new Norse-themed area, the ride is named after the Norse trickster god, Loki. Built in 2014, Mack have built a number of custom multi-launchers since, such as Icon at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Copperhead Strike at Carowinds and a multitude of blue fire clones. However, Helix remains widely considered the best of them all - and it's easy to see why! That soundtrack too....AtmosFear Offride 4K LisebergCoaster Clips2019-09-10 | Standing at 116 metres (381 feet) tall, this colossal Intamin gyro drop tower is the defining feature of the skyline of the park and an icon of the city of Gothenburg. The ride originally opened in 1990 as an observation tower known as Lisebergstornet, before undergoing a radical transformation for the 2011 season. The panoramic views remain, but the tower is now fitted with a floorless carriage and reaches a maximum speed of 68 mph, pulling up to 4 Gs in its 90 metre plunge. Despite its impressive stats, AtmosFear is generally considered a weaker drop tower, which may be a result of the prodigious size of the ride vehicle. The ride held the crown of tallest drop tower in Europe until as recently as 2018, when it was surpassed by the 120 metre tall Highlander at Hansa park.Valkyria Offride 4K LisebergCoaster Clips2019-09-07 | The newest addition to Liseberg's fantastic coaster lineup, Valkyria is a B&M dive machine that boasts a 160ft vertical drop as its focal point. Another stand-out attraction is Riddler's Revenge - a 200ft S&S Turbo Drop Tower.
Music: George Ezra - ParadiseVertigo - Micro Knex PolerCoaster Test VideoCoaster Clips2018-09-19 | My latest K'nex coaster creation is an original take on the Polercoaster, a crazy new concept jointly developed by US Thrill Rides and Intamin AG. Though neither project has broken ground yet, there are currently 2 Polercoasters planned, one at Skyplex Orlando and the other in Atlantic City.
As opposed to the official concept, Vertigo's tower structure is oval shaped rather than cylindrical, allowing for a greater variety of elements and features a eurofighter-style beyond vertical drop at its peak. However, true to the original design, the model features wacky inversions, airtime moments and a spiral lift - a first in Micro K'nex. When complete, the model will feature at least 6 inversions and will hopefully have the longest track length of any VV coaster ever built. The model is just shy of 7ft tall!
Building this ride has understandably been a massive project, which is why I'm currently targeting a Summer 2019 completion date. In any case, I hope to complete Vertigo before the first Polercoaster opens!Infusion Offride HD Blackpool Pleasure BeachCoaster Clips2018-06-28 | It fits like a glove into the crowded Pleasure Beach, but did you know Infusion actually started life elsewhere? This Vekoma Suspended Looping Coaster (or SLC for short) originally opened in 1999 as Traumatizer at Southport Pleasureland, where it ran until 2006 and was installed at Blackpool a year later. Whilst it may be dwarfed by the Big One, Infusion is actually the second tallest roller coaster at the pleasure beach and boasts 5 inversions and a track length of over 2,000 feet.Wicker Man Offride HD Alton Towers ResortCoaster Clips2018-06-10 | The UK's first new wooden roller coaster in over 20 years, Wicker Man is the latest installment in a long line of Alton Towers coaster Centrepieces dubbed "Secret Weapons" which started with Nemesis (SW3) back in 1994. Built by Great Coasters International, Wicker Man (SW8) is a unique modern woodie which specialises in sudden transitions, smooth ride experience and airtime.
Despite being the smallest and shortest coaster GCI have built (as a result of planning restrictions at the park), the ride makes up for it with its theming. Inspired by the 1973 British horror film starring Christopher Lee, riders are taken captive by the Beornen, an ancient tribe which worships the character. Only by riders "feeding the flames" can the Wicker Man rise again and grant the cult eternal life.Icon Offride HD Blackpool Pleasure BeachCoaster Clips2018-06-07 | The UK's first double launched roller coaster is finally here! Arguably the country's most exciting ride for over a decade, Icon boasts a track length of over a kilometre, two inversions and a top speed of just over 50mph, along with plenty of airtime along the way! Another impressive feature of the ride is the countless interactions it makes with the other coasters in the park, weaving its way over and under Steeplechase, the Big Dipper and the Big One. Icon was built by Mack rides at a cost of £16.25 million, making it the Pleasure Beach's biggest investment to date!
