E-404 - Thriller Short Film Little Gecko Productions 2019-08-04 | This is a film that my team and I created for the South X Southwestern 48 hour film challenge. We were humbled to accept the awards Best Film, People's Choice Award, and Best Director. The rules for the film challenge are as follows:1. Each team has 2 months to write and prepare for the film2. Each team has 48 hours to shoot and edit their film.3. You can only shoot on a smartphone.4. There can be no dialogue in the film.5. You can only shoot at locations on campus.6. The theme must be fruit of the spirit.7. For our team the genre must be thriller8. There must be a cowboy hat used a prop.9. The film must be 2-4 minutes long. (This is the extended Director's cut. Every big YouTuber has one. A home base. A place that you recognize. Every time that you click on one of their videos, you expect it. Casey Neistat has his chaotically organized studio space in New York City. Peter Mckinnon has a humble space in Toronto. Whether it's digital, like Film Riot's green screen background, or just your home office like Ryan Kao, every YouTuber has a dedicated studio space. But how do these come to be? No one really talks about the formula to a good YouTube studio. In this video I change that by breaking a good YouTube studio down into three main parts. Lighting, Sound, and Decoration.The second most important variable for a good studio is lighting. You want to make sure that everything is well lit. Get yourself a nice key light, and from there the rest is stylistic preference. You can use a fill light, to fill in the dark side of your face for a more even look. Or keep things more dramatic with less light. After you get a good front source of light, the rest is up to you as to what you think looks best. I said lighting was the second most important variable in making a great YouTube studio, and that might of thrown you off. But how many times have you clicked away from a video because you couldn't hear what they were saying? Audio is so important and it is often overlooked. I would much rather watch a poorly lit video with crisp audio, than one with amazing visuals and terrible sound. Now how do you get good audio? Simple. Plug your mic into an external audio recorder (even if it's your phone it's a million times better than straight into your camera) and get it as close to your mouth as possible. Doing this will quickly bump up your production quality. To get some more detail and bonus tips about audio watch the video. Much more information given there. Now for the fun part. Decorations. This is simple enough. Find some things that relate to your channel. My YouTube channel is all about film and photography so I have lots of cameras in the background. If you have a gardening channel maybe you want some plants or flowers, if you run a comic book channel maybe you want comic books on the wall. Find something relevant to your channel and decorate your background. If you want to set a certain mood or tone feel free to string up LED lights with whatever color you feel suits your channel. This part is supposed to be fun, so have a good time and go crazy. That is all it takes. Simple right? Some good lighting, great audio, and a creative mind. Before you know it you'll have a YouTube studio just like all the greats and you'll be on your way to making the content you love to make, and pursing a life on YouTube! But here is a summary of why you need to storyboard.First of all story boarding is a great way to prepare and get organized before a shoot. Not only will you know exactly what shots you need and how they will look. You basically have a checklist of all the shots you need.Second of all story boarding will help you make creative decisions.
