Skyrim - Bard Lute Instrumentals [Age of Oppression, Ragnar the Red, Tale of the Tongues] Matness 2021-07-31 | A while ago the Skyrim mod author Sette asked me to create lute instrumentals from the bard songs in Skyrim. He wanted to add new bards with some talented voice actors in his legendary mod "Immersive World Encounters". I've already made something similar with my "Krieg der Zungen" cover. So I was already eager for this project.Since the release of Skyrim I've never seen an authentic transcription of these songs. The goal was to perfectly recreate each single note which the original lute player played. I carefully listened to these songs over and over and recreated it as good as my ears can do. It was not an easy task because the voice and the lute is mixed together in the game files. There's no separate audio file of the original lute performance. But it was a superb ear training exercise. It's such an iconic song and yet there's so little going on in this track. Of course I had to go completely bonkers in the end like I always do 👍You probably already noticed by now that I'm not the biggest FF8 fan alive. I don't know why, it didn't grab me instantly like 7+9+10. But during shooting the video I had the strong desire to play it, to be perfectly honest. FF9 - Freyas theme | Cover/Remake, by Matness Matness 2021-06-12 | This was an interesting one. I always loved this theme but it nearly drove me insane. I tried so many different instruments for the harpsichord. Almost all of my string instruments, a piano, melodic percussion and even synth can you imagine?! I split up the harpsichord part for multiple instruments but in the end nothing really worked, I almost wanted to give up. But then I thought, why the heck not try a harpsichord like in the original. Then everything just flowed naturally like it should! This song is just made for a harpsichord. I've added a cello, playing soothing melodies to give it my personal touch. Other than that it's pretty close to the original, almost like a remake. Sometimes it's the simple things that makes us happy!It reminded me of how I handled my cover songs back in the day, not afraid to try out new things. It was all about fun, trying out new things and learning by doing so. I hope after this track I'm more open to experiments like this once again.I used instruments which some I never even heard before. To name a few, there's two Balafon's on the sides. Main melody is played by a Kora and a Fula, in the second part it's played by a very high pitched tongue drum, which is the only "modern" instrument. Some harmonics with Array Mbira. Mid section is a Ngoni. The slight out of tune, funny sounding bass is a Bolon. A lot of childhood memories in this game. It has it's weaknesses but the atmosphere is just right! It's charm won't let you go. It will stuck on your soul forever.With this track I tried to achieve something more unique. Instead of a plain cover with a bunch of old instruments we have some little touches here and there, things you wouldn't usually hear in these type of covers. FF9 - South Gate | Cover [Medieval Organetto] Matness 2021-04-11 | Final Fantasy 9 fever is back... As I worked on Melodies of Life for my new album this little tune always comes back in my mind. I've always loved this altered version of Melodies of Life. Like always, my goal was to achieve that same sound that I hear in my head when thinking about the original tune.🔹You wanna know how the original sounds? Here ya go!🔹youtu.be/XyUo1VezC2c?t=6172I did this abrupt ending to make it perfectly loop able. The instrument you hear is a medieval Organetto. Imagine it like a tiny, portable organ. I used the instrument from the "ERA 2 Medieval Legends" library by Best Service. It was just the perfect choice for the song. Since the first key I pressed on this instrument, I wanted to do an arrangement for this exact song. Now we have it! It's heavy processed though, to make it very sweet and tiny. But it still has that organic feel which I adore. Love the little imperfection of some pipes.However this is not how you can play the real instrument. Usually you have one hand to play a melody, with the other hand you push the bellow. All accompanied with a drone. In this arrangement we have a melody, harmony and bassline. You would need three instruments to play it like that, and still you can't play the drone sound chromatically. I've found a HD background in a forum. Skyrim - Rainy Day Town Song | The Elder Songs Matness 2020-08-07 | Do you know this feeling of relief and cheerfulness on a rainy day sometimes? With this song I tried to capture this feeling. It's raining but this doesn't mean it should make you feel unhappy. This song is very playful and maybe a little out of place for the Skyrim atmosphere, but nonetheless I still wanted some kind of easiness for "The Elder Songs". I know there's a civil war going on, dragons and angry mudcrabs are attacking, but still: you need to take a break and embrace the simple things of life from time to time.
